If I pass my exam Tuesday I won’t be surprised because I’ve watched every video , this one however really made e/m coding much more manageable ! Ty for the insight
New to your channel and you’re my fav UA-cam coder!! I went to a vocational school a while back for medical billing and coding where I got my billing certificate. I have been a biller since then. I now want to become a coder. On feb 1, 2021 I just purchased the CPC bundled live instructor package and I am hoping you’re one of the instructors!!! Haha although I am already working in the medical field, I just thought I should go all out and make sure I take the medical terminology, anatomy and pathophysiology course. The counselor that I spoke with said it should take abt a total of 8months; 4months for the rmedterm, anatomy and additional 4months for the actual CPC course. When I was still going to medical billing and coding school, I loved coding and i found it easy for me! I should’ve scheduled to take an exam after i was done with that program but I did not 😞 I will def be following up with your channel to guide me through this journey ❤️
I commented on a different video that I didn't understand the difference between 2020 and 2021 guidelines because the 2021 book still says that exam and history are part of the criteria (I am new to coding in 2021) but these examples really helped me understand. Maybe I am a person who needs examples to understand concepts. Thanks!
I am in this group and their was several mentioning's of your name. I see why. You are awesome with your explanations! I look at this MDM table in the CPT 2021 book and was like huh, but your breakdown made it so easier! Thank you!
This was an excellent overview of using the audit tool in conjunction with actual medical records to apply the codes. Straightforward and clear. Thanks!
@@ContempoCoding what if a physician ordered an x-ray and blood work that will still count as 1 out of the 3 combinations or will that count as 2 out of the 3 because the physician made 2 different orders (the x-ray and the lab work)?
Just wanted to say I love your videos! They are extremely helpful and I love how thoroughly you explain things. Also, I recently got certified as a CPC-A and read an article written by you in HBM a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I saw your name, I was thinking, "I watch her videos!"
Thank you for this and all your videos. You finally made E&M click for me. You explain things so well and how to actually use the tables in the book. I really appreciate you. THANK YOU! SUBSCRIBED
Thank you for going over some case studies. Very informative and your explanation was so understanding and helpful. I watch many of your videos. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! I got caught with a snag halfway through and had a heck of a time editing. Lol! But seeing comments like this make it all worth while. 💖
Thanks for making it bearable! E/M was so hard to understand during my course. Now that I/m coding I need to brush up, especially with the new guidelines. Ordered your E/M course yesterday. Looking forward to even more clarity. I'm wondering if I need to review the modules that have the old guidelines.
I've been looking into maybe pursuing medical coding. Personality, ability and interest-wise, it sounds like a great fit, but I'm afraid I might get bored, but this was actually kind of fun, even without any official training under my belt.
Thanks so much ! Great and clear of the break down and I totally was able to get this quickly and grateful you posted this with the case to show how it works. Terrific!!!
this was pretty helpful, I've been struggling learning the e/m process and your way of thinking really helped out. The chart you had was quite helpful as well!
I love your videos!!! You have been such a help to me and starting my journey! I have my 2021 CPC Manuals and am studying now and you have guided me so much! A couple of questions. On the 2021 CPC Exam, are there going to be any questions on HIPAA and other related issues and what is the best way to study for that? Any particular books to study? And my second question is, where could I get a laminated copy of the E&M Grid to help me with E&M cases? It makes things so much easier! :)

I'm a physician assistant, trying to improve my billing. Your videos have been a big help. Patient #1 EKG's are usually billed separately for the reading so you can't also use them for medical decision making. Xanax is highly controlled (like opiates and stimulants) you cant give multiple refills even if the patient will be taking it long term, so the lack of refills would not indicate an acute illness rather than chronic. Patient #2 Could you bill this as a 99214 if you clearly stated that the Xray and two previous visits were reviewed? For level 4 data review and prescription drug management. Patient #4 Nasonex is over the counter but it was still billed correctly.
@@amarchbbeauty5168 Amarchb Beauty, please give me two or three pointers about taking the CPC exam: Nothing is "too minor." In fact, something that "seems obvious," is great to be reminded of. It could mean 3-4 questions that I get right, as a result (which could be the difference between passing and failing). Congratulations on scoring 80%! I would be ecstatic to score an 80, even if it takes me 4 tries to top 70!
Thank you so much Victoria for this video ! So helpful ! I am doing practicode with the 2020 CPT book and looked at this video for more help when it comes to coding E&M cases. My question is would I need to just code the operative reports based on the MDM first and not so much on the history & exam ? Could you clarify this for me ? I hope it makes sense lol
Hey Victoria! You are fantastic! I've taken the RHIT exam thru AHIMA and unfortunately failed it. I also took a E&M test from a company that was interested in hiring me. I've GOT to get certified in something soon and I'm considering the CPC. What do you recommend? I graduated with AS in HIM June 2020 and have 15 years experience with authorizations of insurances and denials etc... Feeling kind of frustrated.. Hello! Thank you for your videos. I do have a question about the “foot pain” case with the lying patient. Could you in a broad manner use all of the info of her lying as information backing a observation psychiatric exam and then in turn use the time spent calling the other physicians offices to verify the validity of her appointment excuses as “discussion of management with external physician/ health care/appropriate source”? Knowing that the 2021 GL’s are supporting time as a larger factor and not so much the intricacies of the info being received, wouldn’t you take into consideration the time spent locating office number, most likely waiting on hold, and exchange of info? And then maybe 🤔 through a new diagnosis in for Borderline personality disorder. Ok. Joking about adding a diagnosis...(ONLY CODE WHATS THERE!) But how did you feel about the case I made for 99214?
Is the AMA Scoresheet allowed to be brought with you during test day ? also thank you for all your videos to help students, you have been clutch in my coding journey
For that foot pain patient at 10:15. Could you count the phone call made by the physician to thE patients PCP XYZ as “discussion of management with an external physician/ provider” to meet another criteria to be a level 4? Could you also count not having a PCP as a social determinants risk, making this another moderate category risk.?
Hi @contempocoding to the first case. So if the provider only pulls in the results of labs or diagnostic testing. Do we give them credit for reviewing or no? I’ve seen this a lot with my providers and no they are not documenting a statement, rather they’ve reviewed or not.
Could you please please help. Do you know if you can bill 99212 for a surgery done at a outpatient hospital with POS 22 ?? Or would it be 99243 ?? Please help!!
If test information for example the ekg was just pulled in and copied from note to note, how is that handled? If it isn't mentioned in the rest of the note and was ordered by another physician does it count as a point?
Thank you for all your help! Is it allowed to write this table into my 2020 book.? I have not been able to get the 2021 books yet and I sit for exam next weekend.
I love this video!!! I work in mental health though and would really love to see how you would code some of my cases. I could send you some redacted cases, if you are interested. No one is addressing mental health E/M right now. Thanks! Annette
I code a vein clinic, if they ordered a duplex for chronic venous insufficiency, then plan to bring back for a 6 mths duplex that is a level 3 correct?

These particular ones are JUST E&M, but there are other cases with CPT and ICD-10-CM available on the channel.
How can you tell which level is what by using the CPT book? Like what’s considered level 4 & 5?
It's in the definitions. Check out pages 16-17 in the 2021 CPT book for the grid for office/outpatient E&M.
