Thank you for this video, I'm prepping for my state exam and I was struggling with the concept of modifiers, my course sucked at explaining them, you did it in a way that made it click❤
My name is Shirin and taking MCB classes, I always watch your videos first b4 I have to read the books 📕, I love your videos so much, because you explain very clearly and details and very helpful ❤🎉
Could you make a video about your transition from working in billing to coding? Would like to hear your experience and any tips/insight on switching roles in the revenue cycle. Hoping to land a coding position soon, I have my certification and I’m currently working in med insurance
Hi Victoria! Yes, I would also like to see you do a video on NCCI edits. They sure can cause confusion at times as far as when you can bypass them with a modifier. Thank you very much! :)
Great video. I work for MFM in Florida and I do have trouble at times with the 59 and TH modifier because of the insurances. Also I would live to hear about Telemedicine modifiers, 95, GT, CR.
Thank you so much for the heartwarming compliment! 💕 Remember, everyone starts somewhere, and with passion and dedication, you can achieve great heights in your career. I have no doubt you'll be an amazing instructor too. Keep learning, growing, and believe in yourself. All the best on your journey! 💫
I love your videos, very helpful. I am just starting my studies on coding. One thing that really has me confused is when you know to use a modifier because some of the tests that i have taken would specify the left or right side but didnt require a modifier! When do you know whether or not to append a modifier? Thanks.
I'm looking for a video to help me learn how to look for a modifier when it's time to use one? The HCPCS coding book doesn't tell me which modifier to go get. The index in the ICD-10-CM coding book told me where to go next to get the code I needed. The HCPCS coding book doesn't do that? I have to be able to know where the modifier is that I need. Or is it just a matter of reading and reading until I find the modifier that I need?
Yeah that's the thing about the 3 code set books. There's so many differences between ICD-10 , HCPCS, AND CPT coding books and rules. I had a good instructor for ICD-10 last year so surprisingly even though I'm a bit rusty I'm way better at coding icd-10 than i am at CPT. I have only touched my HCPCS book once during a cpt test
Exactly. I asked my instructor, too, on quite a bit of things in the class and she never answered at times and then when she did she couldn't explain it anymore than I could. She was bold to tell us we could e-mail her if we have any questions but I almost felt bad to do that because she couldn't explain how to do the coding.
@@Cozetta-e5k yeah i had email my instructor many times, but wouldn't get a response until 2 to 4 days later or not at all. Also she refused to speak on the phone and wouldn't host a zoom class. Was your instructor for cpt coding? I was supposed to learn that and stuff about hcpcs from her but never did. Atleast i finished my program for what that is worth lol. What i have been doing now is trial and error; failing the practice exams that i purchased from the AAPC website until i understand it.
@mecalcreates what modifier link are you referring to? I'd like to check it out and maybe I will have a better understanding on how and when to use them!
When using the cpt codes, do you add a modifier to an Evisceration Medpor orbital implant for the right eye. Clearly struggling a bit, and it isn't bilateral for the scenario I have here..
So say I'm coding an E/M service (99281) and the patient was immediately sent to RAD for a 2 view x-ray of the right ankle (73600). I would use Modifiers 25 on the EM code and RT on the RAD code?
How does a TF modifier get billed with HCPCS code H0018? The daily reimbursement is rate for H0018 is one amount and the TF modifier is another rate for one on one services
Is there a way to check if I NEED to a modifier, are modifiers added frequently? I need more info on HCPCS book too, not sure when to use it. thanks for the videos!
You can check if you need a modifier if there's a bundling edit, but other than that there's no way to check other than knowing the modifiers and the guidelines on how to use them.
@@ContempoCoding I'm from Lancaster area too, I watch ALL ur videos, the interview was SO funny! I want to join ur 1.99 class, I think I join by googling contempo? Ur a God sent to us "wanna be" coders!
Modifiers and ICD-10 codes serve different purposes in medical billing. Modifiers are two-character codes added to procedure codes (CPT/HCPCS) to provide extra details, such as indicating a more complex procedure or a repeat service. In contrast, ICD-10 codes are alphanumeric and describe diagnoses and medical conditions, ensuring standardized documentation of diseases and health conditions worldwide. Essentially, modifiers explain "how" a procedure was performed, while ICD-10 codes explain "why" the procedure was necessary.
Modifier 51 is defined as multiple surgeries/procedures. Multiple surgeries performed on the same day, during the same surgical session. Diagnostic Imaging Services subject to the Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction that are provided on the same day, during the same session by the same provider. Modifier 59 Distinct Procedural Service indicates that a procedure is separate and distinct from another procedure on the same date of service. Typically, this modifier is applied to a procedure code that is not ordinarily paid separately from the first procedure but should be paid per the specifics of the situation.

That would be so helpful. Thank you 🤗💖

I wish I had known what you said around 7 minutes in, I could never quite figure out that lt & rt modifiers are for paired organs and not side

Should I use modifier 50 for exploratory nephrotomy?
How do we get updated PDF or CSV file of CPT and HCPCS is there free resources where we can download this. Great Video !!
Hey, We cant access to your free webinar on modifiers. Can you please look into it.
That course is no longer offered.
The modifiers worry me the most, i never know when and when not to use them. My instructor never answered me and i never found a tutor.

Is it the coders responsibility to append the modifiers to the claims or the billers?
How to bill 88305 in a doctor office on same day pt seen as an outpatient elsewhere. Unrelated npi or tax I’d.
