Speed got quite a lot of probe kills in this game. I counted 26 probe kills by the 17 minute mark and he cumulatively traded ~10 vultures + 1 tank for those kills. Here is the breakdown: 4 probes in the initial tank/vult/marine push 3 at 9:23 5 at 10:20 1 at 11:56 3 at 12:12 5 at 14:30 1 at 15:19 4 at 17:11
Speed is the best DMatrix user on Terran by a margin. Nobody else except Light really uses it that consistently. He also ensures that Gols are with pushes so shuttles can zlot bomb tank lines. Love Speeds play. Terrans should always be walling 3rd or 4th base that's closest to Protoss as that's always their easiest push. So many Terran games are lost because they take too much damage or lose their 3rd or 4th.
No one else has mentioned that Rich maxes out at 172 pop around @12:50 and then misses a bunch of macro cycles while his mineral bank builds up to an absurd number and only gets out of the supply block around @13:55! I get he was microing his reavers but it still seems unusual for a pro to let things go to that extent.
Rich making so many attempts at that 6 o’clock base was such a colossal waste. He should’ve zoned from the upper ground with goons and just stormed SCVs, rather than throw away all his goons every time.
this is one of the only terrans i see properly using science vessels in tvp. mass tank gets more vulnerable as the game goes on (lets assume it isnt mass carriers because thats too obvious) but zealots and storms hard counter it for much cheaper. but fewer tanks with more vessels to spam matrix on them boosts the tanks value per mineral/gas with every extra shot it buys them
I love seeing Speed play. He was holding down the EXPAND button pretty vigorously and timed them pretty well, it seems like Rich either didn't respect it or wasn't keeping enough attention on it because it was setting him up for a really hard game.
Speed’s TvP is a delight. His match against snOw really showed how far he’s come and really feels like the only Terran who can put the fear of God into Snow.
I think what happened in that vulture chase was that dragoon pathfinding happened. Rich was skilled enough to know that he could hold off most things with two dragoons and wanted to see if he could get extra value by taking out the vulture. I think he thought that the third dragoon was going to shoot he mine before it took the dragoon but you can see the third dragoon lags behind. So that might have been a mismicro.
Great game on a great map, awesome use of SVs. I wonder why Rich didn’t target them more often. As for the postgame analysis, it’s really bizarre how Rich moved that perfectly placed group of goons.
Huh. I'm intrigued that Artosis still did not know at time of recording that he had missed an important arbiter recall in the JyJ game. Comparing the two at the 19-minute mark: | Speed vs Rich | JyJ vs Rich P | 198/200, 5 base, 65 prbs, reavers | 199/200, 7 base, 60 prbs, arbiters T | 177/200, 5 base, 60 scvs | 199/200, 4 base, 51 scvs From there, JyJ lost 17 scvs down to 34 and then ran out juice. But if he had been able to deflect that and then get a decent engagement, it could have gone differently imo. Edit: To be clear, I'd still rather play terran from Speed's position than JyJ's. JyJ had no map control at all and, as I recall, decent but not stellar turret coverage. So it's not like deflecting that recall was going to be EASY or anything.
Spoilers This game I sense/feel strongly that Rich let his cat or neighbors newborn child on the controls. Definitely a strong amount of mojo missing from Rich even though it was a solid performance. Late bases and deficient defense of bases, lacking in groups of observer dragoon mine clearing patrols... Ground only 🦧 protoss VS nearly pure tank, what could go wrong?
Please subscribe, make a comment, like the video, all that stuff. No problem, I like your commentary and later investigation into early game mechanics, its realy cool and I like your style. Keep it up, cheers.
23:18 I do! I'm a big proponent that ideally, TvP: Tank COLUMNS, TvT: Tank LINES. Tank groups are STUPID, if sieged together, they'll use the SAME LOGIC to attack the SAME TARGET 12 range. Hence the oft quoted "target tanks on goons" advice. Siege Tanks are an art, not a sledgehammer. 15:05 I thought THIS formation, was super interesting, even I think there were better positions to set it. odd to lay out such a wonderful, broad, minefield and pairing it with tank support, or using the buildable terrain to establish a barricade to anchor a map split and control the middle. Terran isn't a late game race, but it's not, like 25+ minutes is a insta loss either. These maps, are designed to create starvation states for protoss, and more attack windows from their need to expand faster, as seen in this game. I think it needs to be said: Best made protoss too chad. Every protoss has forgotten the fundamentals for engaging Terran armies correctly. Thought of a few mantras to help them relearn proper play in light of terrans relearning tank aren't sc2 lurkers. Take what resonates: -More Mobile, More Angles, More Better. (Business up front, party in the back) -Comp, Formation, Movespeed, Position (there's more to 1a2a3a4a than just 1a2a3a4a. ) -Speedlot & Storms are S-Tier, Obs are Map Hax. (Stop lying to yourselves.) -SpeedlotS > TankS, GoonS > VultS, SpeedloT > MineS (1 zealot beats a minefield, minefield beats many zealots) -Don't let Terran See, Don't let Terran Know, Don't let Terran Grow. (To understand where you need to move and keep units on map) -1 Turret Shuttle Drop, 2 Turrets Shuttle Dead, 3 Turrets Shuttle Won. (3 blind made turrets is 225 minerals, attack somewhere else, or some other way) -Screen Switch, Attack On (nothing worse for a terran than moving out army, cycling a macro round, and returning to half-dead army)
The game was actually decided at around 15:20 and onward when the protoss *pro player* plunged into the most defended terran base which coincidentally was also very easy to reinforce as terran while not even using this monumental sacrifice to plan ahead of time and produce enough units to also literally storm the other terran bases that were mining for free because for some reason playing with 3k minerals and 150 supply at 300+ APM not even doing multi pronged attacks was more important. p.s. pro life is hard
@@De_Nome you missed Terran gaining advantage when those perfectly placed goons on highground decided to go hunt one vulture. Science Vessels seem to be underutilized in TvP. D-matrices are so strong if you keep your vessels alive.
And EMP is always nice against casters and shields.
D-matrix all your units and EMP all the enemy shields away. Look at me: I'm the Protoss now.
Funny how Rich actually had to play it from a position of an average Terran, meaning that he had to trade unfavorably so many times.
This comment 🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀 I AM THE PROTOSS NOW
the heavy science vessel usage looked really good, every fight had d-matrix buffering the tanks
I was wondering why Rich wasn't targeting them. It's way harder to replace a SV than a tank.
@@FlymanMSidk the build times but resources aside I am willing to bet sci vessels take longer + waiting for the energy to build up
@@Larsgman exactly, and their abilities are so much more powerful, that's why they are priority targets.
What a beautiful game. Terran did everything he wanted to in the mid and late game. Fast upgrades and expansions. Thanks for the cast Arty!!

Headcanon for why you need to trade vultures: if you get too many of them, they'd incorporate and f around instead of doing work.
