As heinous as the crime is against Stephen, it’s far more bone chilling to think about the cover up. From law enforcement to so called friends it just goes to show you can’t trust anyone. @@jimwerther no, it made it clear as day that a vehicle passed him and something hit him from the passenger side. @phantagirlable I consider it a cover up because just for the fact alone it was a family of lawyers, everyone refused to go near them or deal with it. If it weren’t for the endless pursuit of justice things would have turned out much differently. I have seen too much evidence of people not being held accountable because of the position they uphold, and this would have ended up the same way. We also still do not know if those boys were responsible for hitting him, which would make my theory even more plausible. I think law enforcement would have immediately looked into any regular citizen yet they were too scared to even touch these guys in the beginning.

How difficult is it to track cell phones during + or - 1.5 hours from the time of death? How difficult is it to check the presence of the mother’s number passing by the spot where her son laid and check the presence of the Murdaugh brothers in the vicinity via their mobile phones? How difficult is it to check the incoming & outgoing call record of the father and the Murdaugh brother who called, allegedly?! So we can get an idea.
Awfully suspicious that they never released what "very interesting information" was on his cellphone. And I wonder if they even checked to see if his car was out of gas or if they just saw the gas cap hanging out and assumed that was the reason he was walking.. at night in the middle of the road.. instead of using his cellphone to call someone for assistance.. sorry but I'm not buying the "atypical" hit and run story.
EXACTLY!!!! And I find it suspicious that the only two people that can provide Buster an alibi were his deceased mother and brother. However, I tend to believe the "older prominent man" he was seeing was Alex, not Buster. Or hell, it could even be Randy since he behaved so weird after the accident. But you can bet these slimy Murdaughs were involved.
I'm sure they did that. They don't show it because they want the "mystery". Dude is broke and got a life sentence. No one is "covering" for him anymore.
@@SidewaysInTrafficoh I promise you he has money hidden somewhere. He just can't get to it from inside prison and he's too greedy to give it to Buster.
Why would they release anything for you before it goes to a Grand Jury? What you want to know and what you should know at this point is let the Grand Jury decide on first. If the put what evidence they have out there now, don't you think more coverups would happen. They keep it tight to the vest until who needs to know gets to hear some facts of the case to determine what charges and to whom the charged will be. I'm sure they have plenty from his phone to bring to the Grand Jury. As you heard, mom isn't even privy to that info yet. Why would the armchair investigators demand to know? The Justice system works very slow sometimes, especially in this situation, but trust it is moving and churning along.

I first off want to send my condolences to Steven’s family. I can’t even begin to imagine how heartbreaking this loss was. This is very unacceptable for the family members of Steven. Unbelievable, unimaginable, tragic, heartbreaking, unfortunate, unforgivable, and most definitely left behind by the police, sheriff, and judicial system.. I’m ashamed to even type these ungodly words into one sentence. I wish and hope nothing but a swift recovery and healing for the family. Rest easy Steven.. you will always be remembered and loved. Big warm air hugs to momma. 🙏🙏🙏 watching this through… and my thoughts for the law enforcement is “why not utilize your cellphone interception of their calls and text and social media platforms? Where’s the FBI?”
The fact that this case was reopened after something the police found at the Murdaughs farm where Maggie and Paul were murdered… I wanna know what they found.

I had to take a call from police about my brother in laws sudden death almost a decade ago. I honestly don't think I'll ever recover, having to go through it as a mother is so much worse. I feel so much for Stephen's family. 😞
UA-camr Eric Alan has been doing a solid investigation of the Murdaugh story ever since the murders occurred. Alan', a native of the Lowcountry, understands the region and its people. Two years ago before others were covering it, he analyzed the Stephen Smith death and interviewed Stephen's mother Sandy Smith. Alan's 14 episodes on the Murdaugh case are well worth a look--his exclusive drone footage effectively maps out all the twists and turns in this whole crazy, bloody, fascinating story.
Steven Smith had no idea how important his tragic death would become. His Mom and the 2 attorneys are awesome. Thanks for this update - Justice will prevail.
I’ll just say that AM reeks of guilt. He’s never ONCE said anything about finding the terrrible person who actually killed his wife and son, and potentially SS!
I remember doing a drag show for his mother Sandy so she could afford a gravestone for him. Much love for this family, they did not deserve to lose Stephen and he didnt deserve to have his life taken
2 simple questions not answered.....was the car out of gas??.....if the mom had the investigator unlock the phone why didn't she read the messages???🤔..where is the phone now🤷🏾♂️
@rodneywatson6491 Apparently you dozed off part way through the video. The FBI unlocked the phone and turned it over to SLED and it is now in their custody. The mother was not allowed access to the phone after it was unlocked.
Has anyone ever wondered if Randy Murdaugh was the prominent older man Stephen was going to the Keys with since he interjected himself so quickly into the investigation? Just a thought. Maybe they were trying to get Stephen down there to have an "accident" but he was onto them and backed out so they had to go a different route. I hope they catch whoever did this!
@phantagirlable you need to go watch some of his mother's interviews. She said Stephen was terrified of walking on the road and would hide in the woods if he saw a car coming. He would've cut through the woods instead of walking down the road IF he ran out of gas. If you ran out of gas, would you leave your wallet, keys and phone in the car? I know I wouldn't.
I lived for 1.5 years in the very rural low country of SC, although not the area where this story takes place. I was shocked to see how stuck in the past it is, in many ways, with no desire to change. Not everyone feels that way, but so many do. I just want to tell anyone who is different and who lives in areas like that, just leave. It's not worth it. It's sad if you have family there, but you deserve to live your life in peace. RIP Stephen

This episode was about Alex Murdaugh- not Steven Smith. 48 hours did not uncover any new evidence. However, it did help Steven's mother put more pressure on SLED for the truth.
It's annoying they focused more on the Alex case then what the episode, was supposedly about and that was Steven Smith. I can see why they are trying to find if there's any connections w Alex and what happened to Steven, but it didn't need to be the entire episode.

Yup! And that's why they never released the "very interesting information" that was on the cellphone. Wish the mother had held onto his cellphone and had it unlocked elsewhere so she could have seen what was there firsthand. The only way this case will be solved is if someone confesses to it
or if someone turns somebody in
My thought too
As heinous as the crime is against Stephen, it’s far more bone chilling to think about the cover up. From law enforcement to so called friends it just goes to show you can’t trust anyone. This lawyer almost got a get out of jail free card, because the cops were too scared to touch him. Utterly terrifying! He killed his own son, and who knows how many more murders he would have gotten away with. Let’s all take a moment to remember Stephen.❤️
This video made clear as day that the kid walked down the middle of the road and got hit by a passing car. The conspiracists prefer something more complicated, of course, nevermind the evidence.
@@jimwerther no, it made it clear as day that a vehicle passed him and something hit him from the passenger side. Could've been a ladder, or a mirror, or a baseball bat, which was a rumor circulating LONG before big daddy murdaugh started killing his family members and appeared in the news, even before the boat accident that started to bring some of the secrets out into the open...that buster and some friends were all in a car and killed him with a baseball bat. you saw what you wanted to see, but that's not what was said.
@@jimwerther you are so dumb. have you thought that maybe sb drove him there, left in the middle of the road and then he was killed by this two psychos? nobody just walks in the middle of the road at night!

This is so sad! Being a Mom and Grandma, I just can’t imagine what she’s going through. My heart hurts for the family and everyone involved. I Pray someone comes forward cause they really won’t be able to solve this without the help of an actual witness..my opinion
I'm so glad 48hrs did this investigation....I've been waiting for an update to this case. Prayers for the Smith family 🙏🏽

It's Stephen.

Thanks for bringing renewed attention to this cold case in the Low Country.
I wonder how many of Alex Murdaugh’s crimes would have come to light if Mallory Bech terrible death in that boating accident never happened? Would the investigation of Stephen’s be picked up?
I don’t live in America, so even the thought of one family having that kind of power in a community is baffling to me. My heart goes out to all of the people that have gotten hurt, scammed or had the misfortune to ever meet Alex Murdaugh.
It’s baffling to most of America too.

Yup. Except - and this point seems minor - that his car _did_ have gas in it, but didn't start up when authorities turned the key in the ignition. I assume the car broke down, and he misdiagnosed why.

RIP Stephen
I moved to the panhandle west of Florida..it's a place where people here are not happy to live in 21st century
Still nobody has addressed if Stephen’s car was out of gas.
This hurts so much. I cannot believe what his mother had to go through.
This monster did not create itself. Silence equals complicity. Everyone who stood by and did nothing while this family shoveled out their entitlement is guilty of it all.
I hope the family gets justice for Stephen's death. Randy offering to take the case for free is definitely suspicious. Thanks for covering this story.
Hopefully this family finds justice. It's always the ones who are supposed to serve and protect us that are the most corrupt. I just watched one of these where the DA and police didn't take threats on a man seriously until he ended up shot and dead
Pretty sure there are others who are at least as corrupt as some cops. Politicians for example, judges etc. etc.
@@MrGrumpyGillsI didn't say cops specifically I said the ones who are supposed to serve and protect us which is anyone who takes an Oath to protect the constitution and American citizens
