To chime in on the Spyglass thing, to me that was part of the same package as not hiding what skills demons learn, instantly giving you full analysis when you first defeat a demon or letting you buy Miman locations at the end of an area. SMT V understands that wikis exist and chooses to play with an open hand without wasting your time. It will pretty much tell you up front what the boss's resistances and weaknesses are, what ailments have a chance of connecting, what their ultimate attack probably looks like. You don't have to spend time discovering that through trial and error. But it's on you to bring a party that can exploit this knowledge (which, again, is easier because the learned skills are known), and if you fail to use the info you're given then your "Game Over" screen will be well-earned.
@@truedarkness4052 Oh they absolutely are. Until late game where piercing is common, you will certainly be using spyglass to figure out their one weakness.
@@truedarkness4052 Mitamas are a good reason to always have them on hand. The side effect is that you always have them on hand. The game pretty much invites you to use them with how cheap they are.
I've been on hard since launch. I've lost progress. Been snubbed out by cheap ambushes and bosses. I love it. The game makes you use everything on hard. The gameplay is definitely incredible.
Yeah, the fact that it forces you to think outside of the box to overcome some truly brutal encounters is fantastic been having so much fun with the game!
@@pawnpure123 right? Like THIS is how you do proper difficulty besides maybe the extreme pools of hp most bosses seem to have. They could stand to take a slight hit to that stat lol. I'm just glad the enemies have more aggressive AI in hard. Game is addicting.
Same. I'm in love with the hard difficulty making you utilize all everything to win. When knowing a bosses weakness from spyglass or guessing doesn't make it easy. Which is perfect. Granted so far, I think I've first tried Hydra, and all the other bosses after I died on one boss but I'm still playing so I'll most likely eat my words.
Oh my god you're right, the spyglass. I'm like 20 hrs in and never thought about using it... I probably would have finished the game without using it if it wasn't for this video.
It's possible to get through the entire game without the spyglass, using trial and error like previous SMT. But it's the only way to take out those darn Mitamas cos they keep changing their weakness.
Critical should be an endgame ability. Seriously they give you the universally applicable ability first and then breadcrumb trail the situational ones throughout the game. It just makes it so most of the abilities go unused.
Accursed Poison will seal most bosses, causing them to waste turns. Fairy Banquet will set all of your buffs to max without needing a support demon, and the magatsuhi bar charges fast enough that you can sustain max buffs like this. These are way stronger than Critical, especially Accursed Poison which locks down most bosses for an entire round or more. Critical is good early game when most of your demons have a random variety of low power skills, but in midgame and beyond it falls off because your damage is concentrated down into DPS characters.
@@Xendra I haven't tried the fairy banquet, I was doing the other one that put all enemies at lowest debuff state and would use my healer demon to buff myself in the meantime. But I guess it's the exact same as Fairy Banquet + debilitate. And yeah critical is strong for a while but endgame I almost never used critical.
I don't remember what it's called but the one that makes all MP costs 1 is all I use now that I have it. Critical is good for a while, which is why they give you it.
52:30 i saw the alignments more along the lines of reconstructions of their original tropes as opposed to the "traditional" ones we received. Its part of the reason this game feels more like nocturne to me story wise because of said alignments. Like chaos for instance isn't "social Darwinism" but the concept that usually we are taught that you don't really mix religion because thats something sacred. So in that sense the essence of the "chaos" ending was chaos because it went against the social norms normally presented. And all endings followed this trend of what we consider each alignment to be
Oh god, I spend wayyyyy too much time exploring even like very small areas in games so hearing that Nam spent like 10 hours in the first area just exploring is gonna mean for me that I’ll spend like 200 hours with this game lol. I can spend like 5 hours exploring the different cities in Persona 5 Strikers and that says something.
Dude, same. I love trying to find every single chest and item in these games. Unfortunately I have to hope for a PC port, because I don't own a Switch. :/
eyy TONY is here! I love these early impressions videos, I was wondering why all you guys content was so curated and didnt had a spazing out of happiness first impression video in your channels impression yey
So I'm only level 40 right now but honestly the game really isn't all that bad on Hard mode. I think people struggle with it because they don't use items as much as they should. I start every fight with a spyglass, which is vital because when you see their movepool and they have an AoE elemental spell, that's 99% what they're gonna use on their magatsuhi turn. Then I use a dampener for their critical phase to end their turn, and spam the shit out of elemental shards and gems for extra turns so I can squeeze out more buffs and damage. The Miracle that allows demons to use items really makes it easy to use them during vital moments, and it's not all that expensive to maintain your stock as long as you're thorough with hunting down relics and chests.
I'm about maybe halfway to 3/4 of the way through the second area on hard and I don't feel like it's brutally difficult. It actually feels super balanced and the perfect level for me. Harder than IV but not bullshit like Nocturnes early game. But maybe I'm not far enough to truly suffer yet. Only time will tell.
I'm in the 3rd area and now it feel like I'm reaching the past games level of difficulty. Buffs and debuffs start becoming important where as the first to sections you could just not use them. So yea pro tip. Start looking for those spells towards the end of the 2nd area or post finishing the main quest there and then progressing to the next. You'll definitely find demons with those spells available in the 3rd area for sure tho. Especially fusions.
In my experience the game gets easier as you go on if you play your cards well (i.e you build your demons "properly). The first two areas were the hardest for me and the hardest story boss in my opinion is the second area last boss. After that everything was fairly easy in my first playthrough at least.
@@sombrego2260 hmm thats strange cause I have heard that this game is rather hard in comparison to some others. You are playing on hard yes? Could be people are blowing it out of proportion like they usually do. Not to say the game is super easy or anything its still at a nice level of difficulty. You still need to strategize and fuse proper demons. I can definitely see how a newcomer would struggle but that's most SMT games
I think there was some change in direction midway through the games development, so that could explain a bit of the disconnect of the story, but I also think there was such a big emphasis on the areas and the gameplay loop that the story took a back seat for most of the time.
this could be applied why kazuyuki yamai not credited as the guy who directing it nor the guy who wrote it but the guy who create the initial concept, like in 2018 he said "i think i give my full development to smtv" then its strange that he only create the initial concept but not directing on it.
1:00:24 I got it in my first try, pretty sure the requirements are kill the superboss and complete the succession of Ra and maybe the Demeter quest chain as well.
You have to finish the Amanozako questline, the Succession of Ra, Fiann Mac Cumhaill questline(Fairy Village), and defeat Shiva then choose to destroy the throne when entering the Empyrean.
@@christopherhu7189 Yep. I can see how it would be easily missed for many players. Fighting Shiva alone will kill a lot of players' motivation on their first run since you have to fight him before entering the Empyrean.
@@mythicallymimic Is it specifically you have to fight Shiva before entering the empyrean OR is it specifically you have to fight Shiva before beating the boss guarding the cutscene entrance into the empyrean?
@@stormsand9 I'm not 100% certain. I defeated Shiva before entering the Empyrean. I would assume you just have to defeat him before that cutscene, but I haven't tested this.
@@sombrego2260 overall I think it's balanced with the 3 and 4. All those things you mentioned definitely make the game easier, but in 3 and 4 buffs and debuffs were completely busted, so it's the same overall difficulty, you just use different tools. Smt 1 and 2 however are just easy overall, you can pretty much just auto attack your way to the end game
Guys, I said ARGUABLY! Yes, the spy glasses, dampeners, etc make this game easier for the player. HOWEVER, buffs and debuffs which were essential in past games have pretty much been nerfed in this game. The need to spend your macca is also increased in smt v especially early on. Is it THE hardest game, it’s DEBATABLE.
@@jusan_tinos how are buffs and debuffs nerfed? There's like 1 total boss that clears debuffs and 2 defense downs and an attack up is like a 100% dmg increase
My Protip for Mitama get a bunch of Spyglasses and shards. First turn use the Spyglass and next turn use the shard of its weakness. It makes dealing with them super easy and they can't escape.
Idk if anyone's gonna read this but you can get the 4th ending on your first playthrough assuming you meet all of the requirements and give the correct answers in certain parts of the game
i spent like 13 hours in the first area just doing all the sidequests and getting all the relics and miman and glory crystals. theyre also so so so right when they say that this world feels alive. this is the first smt game to me where the demons really feel like they live here, and that this is is their world now.
Im personally in the second area myself and having fun. Sucks about the buff/debuffs thing but still very enjoyable. Also just find it hilarious the nahobino is the same as the demi fiend, being neither human nor demon. D-F But I thought I was neither human nor demon... Nahobino: Haha, hair go brr
Hydra Attempt 1: wiped immediately Hydra Attempt 2: pure stand off. Hydra low HP. Nahobino low HP Hydra Attempt 3: trained to kill. Hydra gets beat with a great level of skill and strategy.
I definitely branched out more in terms of Magatsuhi skills outside of Omagatoki critical. I think the Avian/Raptor one is super slept on. You get it fairly early and its free Debilitate plus a guaranteed status proc if the enemy is vulnerable to any status. Confusion is the most common status you get with this and its easily the best one as it restricts them to normal attacks or do nothing for a couple turns. It's a great emergency button for when youre getting clobbered. I cheesed many a boss in Hard mode that I had no business winning against with this skill. *spoilers ahead* I liked the story well enough, I think its serviceable and I will say I like that every ending in this game except arguably one is a genuine, reasonable improvement on the previous status quo, even if they arent 100% ideal solutions where there are no trade-offs. SMT 4's Law and Chaos endings and arguably SJ's too fell short in that aspect. V has one of the only Law endings I actually like the outcome of, its the ending I got and saw first and I came away pretty satisfied. This game is much more concerned with setting up tone, atmosphere, concepts, and genuinely stellar "moments" if you will rather than the actual plot from beginning to end. Someone here was on point when they said that if you told someone the plot of this game just in terms of what literally happens it doesn't sound that good or special. The "story" of most SMT games are more like a canvas for the actual "art" of the game, what the game actually wants you to remember and come away from with, rather than it already being everything the game wants to say. I absolutely agree though that the second act of the story is the weakest. Lahmu's arc at the start is a solid, almost self contained story with a satisfying, bitter conclusion. More importantly though it sets up, foreshadows, or introduces actually important concepts for the climactic third act which I also think is pretty good. The second act just sort of feels like filler for gameplay by comparison since it has actually nothing to do with the alignment conflict, like its a beat they just have to get over with. The thing is though, idk how you would get around this because Lahmu isn't the inciting event of the game, it's this conflict between Bethel and Demons that the second act resolves. It's why Bethel even exists in this game in the first place. The Nahobino resolving this conflict is what catalyzes the Bethel branches to immediately turn on each other, so it not existing would mean likely rewriting the rest of the story too. I do sort of get why the alignment lock is so late in this game and why there isn't much in terms of diverging story paths from the alignments since it comes so late, the game is already so huge in scale that making more expansive "routes" could have caused issues, if Fire Emblem series has taught me anything is that I prefer a very good mostly linear story than multiple ok stories crammed in to a game.
I ended up with the chaos ending but after looking up all four of the endings I also prefer the Law one out of the bunch. I was leaning towards that side anyway on my playthrough but Dazai’s character change after slicking back his hair (hilarious scene btw) was just so jarring to me that it threw me off and I ended up siding with Tsukuyomi, who made the more compelling argument. Now that I know exactly what the Law ending entails I’ll be sure to pick it on my next playthrough regardless of how I feel about its representative, wouldn’t be the first time. I do feel there are still better Law endings out there though. Amane’s ending in Devil Survivor 1 and Ronaldo’s ending in Devil Survior 2 to name a couple. You mentioned Strange Journey and while it is certainly true that all of the endings in the original were bad outcomes (to put it lightly), the Redux Law ending could also be considered one of the better Law endings in the series as well.
This game has been amazing so far and I’m only 10 hours in. It’s scratched my itch for Pokémon and makes me not ever want to play another Pokémon game again. This game reminds me of a mix of Pokémon, Digimon, & Persona and I love the mature themes and dark world. So glad I picked this up!
You can get them in Obidia, the egyptian side quest area, from your npc alerts at a VERY low drop rate. I know you can get them because I got Type-0 essence as well the one with Profaned Land (never found the chest with it) from those alerts.
It's really funny, I thought I was neutral too, and then upon looking up discussion for endings, I found a thread that said "this is what special fusions you unlock for this ending". It was at this point where I basically shouted "wait, I wasn't neutral?!?"
I'm interested in the panel's reaction to the alignments in this game as well as some people comparing them to Nocturne. (Trying my best not to spoil anything here so move on if you are worried). This game reminded me of SMT4 more than anything; Law being what you would expect besides the fact you aren't another entity's muscle by the end, Chaos being Chaos but taken more literally with less emphasis on the 'might is right' angle, the "secret" ending being the canonical neutral route, and the only ending left being similar in theme to the White ending.
Love the video keep it up guys. I’m listening to this while starting my second play through. I got the True Neutral ending, and I played on hard. Early game kicked my ass, and late game although it still kicked my ass, I had many more tools to help me out. So for the first boss, I got wrecked a good 20 times, even with good demons and affinities. By the end I’d take two or three attempts per boss. My rule of thumb was, go in use a spyglass, die, rebuild and go back.
Was wondering if any of you guys had any sort of performance issues when playing in docked mode? Seems a little choppy with the UI in docked mode but I heard it was better in handheld mode?
I can answer that now because we forgot to mention it in the video (even though we had the note written down) Personally speaking, there were some issues with texture pop in and low draw distance but it was never too bad for me. The frame rate does drop below 30 a little too often for me sadly, but I got used to it.
@@NamsCompendium thats exactly what i've been experiencing, same with me as well i'm used to it now but its definitely less then ideal, thanks for the quick response on that question, and keep up the great work!
Demi fiend was insane. I can't believe the extent to which i had to optimize my party to win. Amon was my MVP with megido flame doing disgusting amounts of damage, and being bulky enough to soak up physical attacks. You can't even really cheese the fight with drain/repel phys either. Getting him to waste all his turns several times over the course of the fight helps, but you still have to meet the dps checks constantly or you get gaea raged. chaotic will makes it even scarier Say you are on decent tempo to kill a demon before gaea rage, then you swap in a drain phys user. Sometimes, demi fiend will ignore them, use chaotic will, and you are suddenly in a situation where you might have to scramble to avoid a gaea rage. And also, if you get stuck with 4 phys immunities on the field that demifiend knows about, he and his boys will spam almighty attacks. So while it helps a LOT to have 15+ drain/repel phys users, it really doesnt break the fight or anything, it just gives you a bunch of insane tempo swings that you have in your back pocket. You have to have the ability to keep up offensive pressure constantly, even through chaotic will, so you can't afford to be swapping in mediocre demons even if they drain phys. It's actually more crucial to have strong demons that RESIST instead of null phys like shiva.
DLC Artemis was actually in my party all the way to the end. Don't much care for her design, but her 15 hit Astral Saintstrike with the right skills backing it up just chewed through all the bosses.
Thank you for the discussion! The game is great, but feels like that they had to push this out before the MegaTen community completely rebelled and that they will be issuing a remastered Game of the Year version in a year or two on all modern platforms.
This is my first mainline smt game and it is thoroughly beating my ass but I'm still having lots of fun :] the sheer amount of dopamine when I beat a boss that has killed me 4 times is just **chefs kiss**
My personal thoughts Customization: For demons, I would say the system is simply flawless. Essences and freedom with fusion means making your dream team has never been easier, and you aren't just pidgeon holed into using the same few high level demons. If anything you're discouraged from using the absolute highest level demons because they can't benefit from a lot of the stat bonuses you get through miracles, though they tend to have a heftier statblock to compensate so they aren't useless outright. If you want to use a God Slime, go right ahead. For the player, while you certainly feel strong, I'm disappointed that such a focus was put on strength skills, since str (or dex is similar in 4/4a) is consistently just, the best build, full stop. It'd be neat if we at least had one unique magic skill that was useable in the endgame but there just isn't, they're all transitory spells that get replaced by generics rather quickly. Level Design: It's hit or miss. Maybe this is the tiny fov speaking which has been patched, but the layout can be rather confusing in all the wrong ways. It's not fun thinking you're stuck because you didn't know you could fit in a random gap that was obscured by a building and it just looked like a dead end. The map certainly doesn't help either, because it's very inconsistent about what you can and can't walk on with the color coding, making it easy to get lost bashing your head into a wall. World design: Honestly, the first level is the peak of the design. Tokyo but on fire or Tokyo but ruined has been done to death so much for me that it's just not interesting. The fourth level is pretty good, though. Story: It aint good chief, but at least it doesn't overstay its welcome.
honestly hard mode is hard but it isn't insane, It also requires essentially minimal/no grinding As long as you explore around thoroughly, occasionally fight new or old demons and do every side quest/possible side boss you find, I've just been running past most encounters and my party is around the right level
Having played III Nocturne earlier this year, I had a feeling good things were to come with V. This game is that good and justifies its nomination in the Game Awards. Edit: Best believe dampeners are needed for certain bosses when they use magatsuhi.
i did the game on hard. was fun and early game was insane. Im glad to see its being so well received because i love this game. in my top 5 games and my fav smt game. And dont you slander Cleopatra lol, i love her, shes my favorite smt iv series demon. Shes also incredibly good with her stats, her affinities and her broken charm that fully debuffs attack and defense 2 stages aoe. It sucks if bosses block it though which the very endgame bosses start to do. If you were to get any of the demon dlcs, Cleopatra is def the best by far in terms of value.
If all the DLC was secret ng+ content that would’ve been amazing, they’d need to buff them as you’d be super high level. Also, making the secret ending ng+ as well. Everyone would be like wtf haha would’ve been awesome but they had to do the cash grab
hydra kinda pushed my shit in twice, then i realized that he seems to use poison first then fire every time in a predictable pattern, so i was able to swap out my healer angel before he uses poison, and swap mermaid out on the turn he uses fire, and beat him on my third try with a bit of good luck
Playing on Hard and having a blast, Normal feels way too forgiving and easy with health and damage. also how are you guys broke? The vending machines drop so much money if you do run through an area a few times getting as many as you can
Nahobino is such a disconnect from the story for me. I know they a silent protag but come on! You have people talking to him, you have big things happening, and then all Nahobino reacts is with :| Sees bad stuff? :| Sees heartwarming stuff? :| Hearing important info? :| Interacting with people? :| They really could not give him more expressions??? I realize that Flynn and Nanashi didn't throw me off with their stories because their games are shown through their eyes as first-person. So you don't need to see them reacting coz the structure is not meant to show it visually. How jarring would it be to see Flynn or Nanashi's character portraits perpetually in the backgrounds, never emoting, even when big, personal stuff happens around and to them?
I've enjoyed the game so far, was really feeling it at the start but somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd "Open World" area (probably the very maze like 3rd Area) I was feeling burnt out and not enjoying the game, but then that Major Scene before going into the 4th (and I believe last?) Area of the game it REALLY RAMPS UP... Like especially the Story, I honestly think it was one of the worst SMT games story/plot/character wise before that point. Also, really liking how it appears that SMT V is a somewhat direct sequel to Nocturne? Maybe that's hinted at further by the End or maybe in that "Secret" Ending? Regardless, even if it's all just reference *hint hint nudge nudge* shit it's been AWESOME 😁 👍
I felt like you, but then I finished the game and I felt even worse story-wise lol. I won't spoil anything but I'd advise having your expections as low as possible for the story and play the game for the gameplay mostly.
The story feels very unproactive. It really feels like it's lacking any kind of main thread to follow for the first half. As a result it feels like it becomes very backloaded in terms of pacing. Unfortunately I also felt like a lot of the human cast felt very underdeveloped Wich felt especially detrimental at the end of the second area.
Hard ain't bad. You need to use all items, use debuffs, attack buff, block, damp makes the game easier. Abuse magatsuhi gage, grimore are op, magatama with out dlc is op.
Currently at the latter end of Shinagawa (I think). While I've looked into SMT a fair bit since SMT5's reveal and having played Persona 5 Royal, I've still never played a mainline SMT game before. Playing on Normal, having beaten the Hydra on my first attempt when I was still figuring out the game (as well as little-to-no casualties)? I was pretty impressed with myself. Current death count: 9
Mentions clearing the first tutorial zone in like 10 to 12 hrs... *looks at my 25 hrs so far* how is he beating that lv 22 boss in 10 hrs? Its kicking my ass.... Buff meister has 2 vids up of him beating demi with and without repel phys starts. Give em a watch. Its a great watch Update.... Apparently I'm a masochist cus I decided to play on hard out the gate XD
Spoilers incoming! I just beat Metatron and before doing the alignment lock I came back to do the side quests needed to get the secret ending. So I did the quest given by the Dominion to beat Khonsu and sparred him but I didn't get the message that I can fuse him. I already did the Amon side quest and he still hasn't unlocked. What did I miss? What did I do wrong?
So I’m not done with the game yet but I agree on a lot of points with the story but I also wanted to play a bit of devils advocate im in the end of the second area and I feel that the story is very slow paced atm and very different from most smt games especially alignment stuff there is so much less of a focus on the actual alignment groups and much more on the actual characters that represent them I think that this game is actually trying to do that on purpose though by putting you on a more set path until the end I feel like it kinda shows how close the ideologies actually are as your going through the game you pretty much play as neutral at least that’s how I like to look at it your literally some random ass normal highschooler who then became a super powered being stronger then even some gods you don’t have an idea what to do I think it’s part of the point or at least how I’m gonna look at it unlike in nocturne u don’t have literal Lucifer pushing you in some direction giving u a sense of things u need to do and the overall world in smt 4 people just know demons exist and that’s why the samurai do etc. ur never actually just really some normal guy most games give u some character that will help you get in touch better with what’s actually going on I mean just think about it one of the main things in this game is exploration I’m probably reading to far into it but it could be looked at as mental exploration to ur character slowly becoming used to the way this world and the demons in it work I’m halfway through the game from the sounds of it and I’m really just another soldier in this big war I have done nothing besides be a nahobino to really show my power in this world I should be treated like this but I can go on and on but I would love to have a convo about this lmk if this made sense I’d love to hear what y’all have to say
@@FelixS. I knew someone would say this I apologize lmao I was at work and wrote that shit in like 2.5 secs and just never edited it and yes I just put no punctuation here either cause I’m a menace
I liked the journey but the "story" was too big of a let down (and I'm not a fan of the exploration part, the 4th area is neat but the 3 others are a bit tedious after a while, and the movement is a bit too stiff for me to truly enjoy exploration).
That one guy @14:57 being a purist about not using dampeners and then back pedaling about it lol this is why I find that “stick to the original” idea annoying
Love the game, it is noticeably easier though, so normally my first playthrough is on normal but most fans should start on hard for the more traditional difficulty. Phys Nahobino is really strong, that's how I went and he's already insane very early on, and items are busted strong, not to mention how easy it is to get loads of gold just from vending machines, the dampeners and shards/gems are kinda overpowered IMO, trust me, buy up the dampeners especially, and it lowers the difficulty excessively, 2 of the first big bosses go from incredibly hard to push overs just by throwing on a dampener before their big super moves.
Unless you're overleveling a lot, dampeners are necessary on hard. I fought each boss at the same level they are, and with their Magatsuhi skills they will one shot you without them.
So this is almost entirely a lie - items aren't "busted", they're mandatory on hard, less so on normal. Also Phys. build until about level 15-20 is painful, less so until it normalizes once you get access to dracostrikes and elemental physical attacks (which isn't until the third area and endgame)
@@Blurredborderlines One, you don't have to be hostile, I posted my opinion based on my playthrough and I stand by it still. Phys Nahobino has been extremely strong for me, you get an almighty attack very early, much less MP reliant and early game, you can use mag skills to basically the same effectiveness because your stats are not spread out much yet. And I do think items are busted in the same way buffs/debuffs were busted in Nocturne. Items are required because they offer extreme power compared to what you can bring on your demons and to me, that is not how it should be. Items should not be as powerful as they are, the balance should be shifted more heavily toward building a team to beat the encounter IMO. You can feel how you want but really my only gripe with the game so far has been how reliant you are on certain items.
You should never be broke relic farming is easy. Maybe it's because in monster hunter Farming nodes is more tedious. Getting macca has never been easier.
SPOILERS JUST FINISHED THE GAME! Overall the game was worth the 50 hours I put in for the exploration and gameplay. But man the story sucks. I felt like a sentch man who never got to make a decision and when I got to the alienment choice it was all just following other people rather than doing it your own way. I knew the aliment choice was late in the game but I didny realise it was 1 hour before the end. I was just waiting for the final boss to show up, but I just best my classmates and that's it, it's just over. I'll probably play the game again in a couple of months or a year because the gameplay was that good, but I expected more from the story.
@@hexenvexen yeah I got that ending, but I can be arsed to play through the game again to get the true ending since I did all the quests in my first playthrough
Dampener are so op that you only get 3. I got physical damps that were life savers. Mirror attack is trash thought. Single target reflect is a crap shoot. For an item so rare.
@Dan the Axolotl you are right. But even then guarding is pretty op. I used the physical resist against fion Mac and blocking with my protag against the peirce is still viable.
@Dan the Axolotl I don't have it yet but the skill that ends magatsuhi attack when guard, null, etc. I'm sure that's op. But with fion Mac his magatsuhi is a fire attack after realizing that(must have been sleepy) the fight became more trivial. Even though he would one shot some of my demons. This man only missed attacks on my third try fully buffed evasion and accuracy debuff. I mean the fights so far on hard haven't been that bad. I feel if you go through the game but don't die a good amount of times there is no real threat so what's the point of playing. I'm not upset when I die and I usually have saved 1 to two fights ago. With grimores I'm not even trying to lvl to hard because I want the skills to add skill slots. Or I have to make the choice to drop an other wise good move. I have one gospel I'm holding just incase I want to pop it and grab a specific demon at a desperate moment which might never come. I feel taking advantage of all options makes the game easy. Dying every so often doesn't mean the game is hard in my opinion. Now if you die 20 times on one boss yes. I guess playing Monster hunter world as showed me what actual hard is. 30 - 50 minute fights that take timing and still get killed or run out of time is what I call difficult.
@Dan the Axolotl challenging perfect word choice. I play mh solo I have done most AT monsters solo. Mh 4 Gen solo is extra challenging pre g rank. Pre high rank.
@Dan the Axolotl once I get internet access I'll get that dlc. I could do a challenge of dds bosses and smt 5 back to back. To bad it would take too long.
It seems like this has the best gameplay and quality of life features out of any mainline title. However, to me at least, it lacks the 'atmosphere ' of the previous games. Which is why I love this series. I can't really explain it yet. It just feels super "anime" or generic. Each previous game provided a unique experience you couldn't get anywhere else story-wise. I'm not trying to bash the game, but I'll probably be way more hyped for a re-make of smt1 or 2.
I strongly agree and I can’t put it into words either as to why. The game was certainly “fun”, but not much more. Every SMT game(including spin-offs) had a common theme that is chaos and law, yet a unique, distinctive tone and atmosphere for each game. SMTV just felt bland. idk maybe I’m weird or came in with expectation too high after waiting for 5 years. Objectively a 8/10 solid game, but low lasting satisfaction based on what I personally love about SMT games.
Do not download the Miman dlc, it completly takes all the fun out of the game, I had never played a SMT game and was soo hyped for this , used the dlc and just got soo OP. I turned it off, the enemies are finally starting to catch back up to me, but I ruined the experience up to level 34.
Miman DLC? Don't you mean Mitama? Because I did buy that, but only because I needed some higher level demons to fight Lahmu and the demons in my area weren't giving me enough EXP to make the grinding experience feel worthwhile. I turned it off as soon as I got the team I wanted, at the expense of losing over half my Macca, and I don't plan on turning it back on unless I feel *really* stuck. Let's see how I fare against hentai face now.
Between this and Nier Replicant, I feel like femboys are getting more representation lately. too bad about that naruto run, tho, but we can't all be perfect.

Thanks for having me on the program, was a lot of fun!
I figured spyglasses were pretty much mainly used for the mitimas
@@truedarkness4052
Oh they absolutely are. Until late game where piercing is common, you will certainly be using spyglass to figure out their one weakness.
@@imortal333Oh shit the pierce moves actually work against them? I was too cautious to try that
@@truedarkness4052
I’m fairly certain they do. That’s the point of pierce, isn’t it? I think they’re resistant to almighty though.
But it's the only way to take out those darn Mitamas cos they keep changing their weakness.
took me 16 hours to find that trick lmfaooooo
Lmao I abused the crap out of spy glass and one of my first miracles I got was so demon allys could use items

@@Xendra
This. Only in the 3rd area but I'm noticing the difference between those abilities now.
I 100% agree. Critical is basically all you need and should use.
It kinda helps that this game doesn't do random encounters too

eyy TONY is here!
@@lastmanstanding7155 oh ive already been using buffs/debuffs to their fullest potential don't you worry. I ain't no rookie when it comes to this
@@sombrego2260 hmm thats strange cause I have heard that this game is rather hard in comparison to some others. You are playing on hard yes? Could be people are blowing it out of proportion like they usually do. Not to say the game is super easy or anything its still at a nice level of difficulty. You still need to strategize and fuse proper demons. I can definitely see how a newcomer would struggle but that's most SMT games
Amazing video Nam. Thank you for it!
I think there was some change in direction midway through the games development, so that could explain a bit of the disconnect of the story, but I also think there was such a big emphasis on the areas and the gameplay loop that the story took a back seat for most of the time.
this could be applied why kazuyuki yamai not credited as the guy who directing it nor the guy who wrote it but the guy who create the initial concept, like in 2018 he said "i think i give my full development to smtv" then its strange that he only create the initial concept but not directing on it.
and also, even though smt v has really good story but its fail to meet yamai vision what smt v was going to be.
@@mythicallymimic So essentially all the quests that relate to the main story in a significant way
@@christopherhu7189 Yep.

Arguably the hardest shin megami tensei game is also the most relaxed shin megami tensei game. XD
I would hard disagree with that. Dampeners, spy glass and essences make the game much easier than others.
Nah.. SJ is the hardest, not just with the enemies and bosses, but dungeons and exploration too.
Hard difficulty incentivizes the use of items such as dampeners because if you take 1 magatsuhi attack bosses would 1 turn your party
My Protip for Mitama get a bunch of Spyglasses and shards. First turn use the Spyglass and next turn use the shard of its weakness. It makes dealing with them super easy and they can't escape.

*spoilers ahead*
I liked the story well enough, I think its serviceable and I will say I like that every ending in this game except arguably one is a genuine, reasonable improvement on the previous status quo, even if they arent 100% ideal solutions where there are no trade-offs.

17:30 You can get Aogami essences back, just its entirely luck based. It's in spoiler territory so I am going to being putting it in a reply
You can get them in Obidia, the egyptian side quest area, from your npc alerts at a VERY low drop rate. I know you can get them because I got Type-0 essence as well the one with Profaned Land (never found the chest with it) from those alerts.
Doing first run on hard mode, those dampeners and spyglasses are a necessity.

It would be hilarious if in the expansion Atlus added in the current DLC for free, then added new DLC for that version.
Thank you for the discussion! The game is great, but feels like that they had to push this out before the MegaTen community completely rebelled and that they will be issuing a remastered Game of the Year version in a year or two on all modern platforms.

My personal thoughts
Customization: For demons, I would say the system is simply flawless.
SMT V has made me apply the SESO mentality.
Save early save often.
honestly hard mode is hard but it isn't insane, It also requires essentially minimal/no grinding As long as you explore around thoroughly, occasionally fight new or old demons and do every side quest/possible side boss you find, I've just been running past most encounters and my party is around the right level
Wow the whole crew is here in this video
I did check out the Safety Mode, it is a boot back to the Title Screen if you die which is crazy... Not very "Safe" Atlus 😂
Having played III Nocturne earlier this year, I had a feeling good things were to come with V. This game is that good and justifies its nomination in the Game Awards.
Edit: Best believe dampeners are needed for certain bosses when they use magatsuhi.
I've probably spent more time in the World of Shadows than the actual game itself and I'm loving it.

42:40 this guy never play a xenoblade game? Lmao
...world design dev is the same person from Xeno Chronicles 2, so...
So… should I buy this game or wait a year for the “definitive edition”
Spoilers incoming! I just beat Metatron and before doing the alignment lock I came back to do the side quests needed to get the secret ending. So I did the quest given by the Dominion to beat Khonsu and sparred him but I didn't get the message that I can fuse him. I already did the Amon side quest and he still hasn't unlocked. What did I miss? What did I do wrong?
The next quest after that is in Odaiba from Isis. It's the area where you first fought Khonsu.
Dude, did you ever hear about punctuation mark?
@@FelixS. I knew someone would say this I apologize lmao I was at work and wrote that shit in like 2.5 secs and just never edited it and yes I just put no punctuation here either cause I’m a menace
Haven't watch trailers avoided spoliers haven't played past the first save point lmao just need to find time. Im glad I have no idea how this game is
I liked the journey but the "story" was too big of a let down (and I'm not a fan of the exploration part, the 4th area is neat but the 3 others are a bit tedious after a while, and the movement is a bit too stiff for me to truly enjoy exploration).
Without using demonic compedium you won't have problem with macca on Hard ;)
Physical/luck build slaps in this game
I played on normal until the first boss... and now im getting my ass beat in casual.
I keep getting tons of money from selling though. my money always go up and down like roller coaster. :)
Love gustave.
Sounds like you got the normal neutral ending, for some reason that ending doesn't have the final boss that the other endings have
@@hexenvexen yeah I got that ending, but I can be arsed to play through the game again to get the true ending since I did all the quests in my first playthrough
Game looks fun...come on Atlus release this game on PS4/5, PC, etc.
Nuwa was my blockade not the Hydra😅
Persona!!
well this didnt age too well
It seems like this has the best gameplay and quality of life features out of any mainline title.
He just has long hair
