I respect all you that can work magic with steel, gears, chain, motors, controls, cables, etc to fabricate machines that work! I spent my whole career building custom homes, never did anything that hadn't been done for hundreds of years. Hats off!
I grew up in WI. I now live on the Oregon coast. I enjoy watching your ice fishing videos.
We made several trips to fish the Mississippi sloughs near Ferryville in the early 1960’s. There was a break water zone that we crossed on planks. We then were delivered to ice fishing areas in the Mississippi sloughs in old jalopies whose doors were removed so you could escape if the vehicle broke through the ice. It was quite an experience. We usually caught a bunch of fish.
Those are great memories! It’s fun to hear stories like that. Ice fishing has changed so much from what people used to do. Thanks for the comment!
That looks dangerous as hell. I LOVE IT!
🤣🤣🤣
I never saw one of those machines. Kool!
It’s a fun way to get around the ice.
That boat is awesome! Looks like a great day on the ice!!
It’s fun! Thanks Nate!
Great video.
Scratcher segment was very informative
Thank you!
I would like to have one of them scratchers do you know where I could get one or how to build one Live on the river in Savanna Illinois trap a lot and fish
Love that scratcher.great video
Thank you Devin!
Thanks for the video. That boat and motor are amazing! Dave
Thank you Dave!
Thank you Dave!
The scratcher moves right out, you ended the day with a nice batch of fish.
It was a fun day on the ice!
Wasn’t sure we had enough for a video🤣
Thanks for the picker ride!
Oh yeah! You did well!
That was a nice pile Lance!
Thank you Bob!
How many pound can that scratcher haul? Thanks
Depends on how much snow there is. It was at its limit on this day with two guys and our gear.
You are one of my favorite Channels to watch. Very informative and helpful. You helped me become a better fisherman on the Mississippi. A while ago, I watched you fish Lake Onalaska for Northerns, what was your personal best? Thanks, and keep the vids coming! 🎣
Thank you for the support! My personal best pike is 42" but it wasn't on the Mississippi River. I've caught some in the upper 30" range out on Pool 7.
Iam interested in building one of these what are the chances i could get some pictures of this?
Nice fish!
Thank you!
Cool video, I like your scratcher boat! I saw one years ago that was homemade that used a old lumber mill saw blade and it had runners and they used it on the backwaters of the Mississippi here in Southeast Iowa. I hope to make it up your way someday this year for some of those nice perch!
That sounds like an interesting scratcher boat! Thanks for the comment and good luck on the ice!
Thanks for the video! I have recently bought a scratcher motor and was looking for just such a video. I fabricated a frame with 3/4" pipe for runners but didn't like how it worked. I like the idea of the plastic sheet, how did you attach your ratchet straps to the plastic?
Thanks again and keep the videos coming
I bolted an aluminum strip to the plastic and attached the ratchet strap to the aluminum strip. Did that on front and back, no bolts through the boat. I can remove the plastic in the summer and still use the boat for open water.
Thanks for the Scratcher video. I PMed you a few days ago with some questions about your Scratcher. The video answered most of them but got a few more. What kind of throttle do you have? Is it a twist throttle like an outboard or motorcycle, or is it a brake handle throttle like a mud motor or motorcycle brake?
Also would like to know how you keep that heavy motor elevated when pulling the boat off the trailer or when pulling backwards?
Hi Brent! It’s a twist throttle that I bought online, works pretty good. The motor stays down when I load and unload the boat although it does have the option to be tilted. When unloading I drop the back end on the ice then drive forward slowly pulling the trailer out from under the boat. Loading I back the trailer to boat then winch it onto the trailer. The trailer breaks in the middle which helps.
Damn you guys have some nice perch up there. Are these backwaters not many people can get to without a scratcher or air boat?
With the ice we have this year a guy could walk or possibly use a snowmobile but I like being in a boat just in case.
Maybe mount some carbides in the front somehow
That could work.
Wooow .. i like. Crush your competition with P r o m o S M.
Do you fish swift creek? If so I think I’ve seen you guys fish once. There was a few guys in a boat like that too. Then they left to the other bay I think.
I’m not sure where you’re referring to when you say swift creek
@@AnglerX right behind the hospital gundersen.
Oh gotcha! I haven’t been in that area this year. I have fished there in the past.
@@AnglerX good luck fishing. It’s been hard to find a group of perch that are actually decent. All I’ve found are little baby dinks. But I guess fish is better then no fish lol. Have you fished stoddard before?
Yes I’ve fished Stoddard in years past. It’s a great fishery!
You ever try wigglers?
No, not sure I know what those are.
Mayfly nymph
Gotcha. Maybe I give ‘em a try.
Does anybody manufacture the scratchers or is it a DIY deal ?
There used to be a manufacturer but now it’s a diy project.
