    I’d never heard of a jigger before until I asked a first nations friend here in Manitoba how they set their nets under the ice and he explained it to me.
    Wow, what an interesting system. Not sure who came up with that but what genius!!!

    You are getting better at this. I enjoy watching. You might do more to explain the goals and what is happening in the videos.

    I just subbed, first time seeing your vids. Good times doing hard work. I had a fortunate time to set nets with a friend a few years ago, lots of work, but makes you feel good when the tubs are full. I kinda miss running the jigger and the time shared with him. Thanks for sparking a good memory! Stay safe.

    ...........Living your lifestyle requires a lot of hard work at times.. and in very cold weather.....I bet the workers in your family stay in good physical shape.....Would like to see a ptarmigan
    catch and cook when you can ....Did I get that right ?....the birds that turn white in winter ?

    Great explanation of what you were doing . Fishing with bushway 101 should be a series. Setting snares 101 , finding a good stand for whitetail 101 etc. Pass on your knowledge to the next generation. How do you decide where to put the nets , is it just where you always have or do you try new spots?

    Hey Bushway,
    I'm from BC a member of Pauquachin First Nation and I was curious to know, do you guy's need a "Tag" for any big game species like moose? Or are you guy's under a treaty as well?

    • @Bushway
      @Bushway  5 років тому

      We are under Metis so we can hunt year round with no tag in our region.

    • @JustinHallowesOutdoors

      you need to be metis or full status in Alberta and you can only set nets in lakes that were commercial fishing lakes.
      my uncle is metis in Alberta and I help him once a year. which is legal.
      hunting is different I can't help a metis or status spot or stalk I can only help when its down .
      I also can't keep the meat I have to go to his place .
      and if you are metis or status you have to purchase a license for the net per lake. and some lakes have different sizes of mesh
      Bush way in Saskatchewan is commercial fishing. and I love seeing the hauls sorry it was long winded hopefully this helps

      my uncle does by the same fish cop.
      he is my uncle because he married my moms sister. so that is how I'm not metis. and why I cant have him give me meat unless he invites me over or cooks it out there.

    In Ontario we cant use nets unless we are First Nations. I’ve watched them pull them up before. I was curious as a bunch of suckers had been eaten in the net and the Chief told me it was otters. Its pretty cool but takes many fish out of the water system. I encourage people to net conservatively.

    Reminder ... raw fish fed to dogs might require tapeworm deworming ...gotta love that dog!... check his stool for segments....fish tapeworm is known to cause anemia ... more concerned about moose parasite fed to raw to dogs ...dangerous to people and segments very tiny..hard to see....cooking fixes all... !!! ... enjoy the vids...

    • @bobgilbert2981
      @bobgilbert2981 5 років тому +1

      Actually.... I think you are right ... advice offered just in case ... I would be most concerned about trap's exposure to moose lungs and liver along with wolf fecal contamination (if he rolls in it like some dogs do) . Sanitation and cooking is key ... I know hydatid disease is present in moose ...I have seen it in northern moose in Alberta. Another form is transmitted by dogs and cat eating mice... Two wormers get
      this parasite ... (echinococcus)...drontal plus and interceptor plus...
      Washing vegetables contaminated by feces of infected animals helps prevent it from occurring in people .
