- I've been wanting to try to spray some book edges for a while and finally did it! I am no professional by any means. I just read a bunch of articles, watched a few videos, then went straight to buy the supplies. This was my first time doing it and it was so much fun. I never realized how enjoyable book gilding can be! If you like this type of video, please let me know down below in the comments. There is another method I will be trying out soon!

Yea it's definitely doable. I bet there's a dragon template online somewhere that is similar enough to use. It's probably gonna cost a bit more tho due to supplies...

I can't wait to see how the gold turns out! Do you have a particular paint brand you recommend? I want to try this on my special edition ones, but will definitely practice first!
I don’t think it matters about the paint brand. I like Krylon but I honestly think any paint would work.
This is so FREAKING cool! You did so good for your first try! I was actually screaming at the video for you to put paper on the inside of the cover too. Lol 😆 But awesome job. I can see myself doing this in the very near future. Esp seeing Amazon doesn't yet do colored edges. 🙃 BTW it's good seeing you on my screen again!

Hi Courtney, these turned out so great! May I ask if you had any issue with the spraypaint flaking off or anything from the edges afterwards? I'm thinking of trying your method. :) Your books came out so much cleaner looking than a lot of other tutorials!
Hi! I’ve had no issues with it flaking. They’re still on my bookshelf and still look exactly the same as they did the day I did it.

The books came out so well. Excited to see how the gold one will come out. Have you thought about using stencil of chess pieces? Use card stock between the stencil and the part you don't want paint on.
It could be really cool to spray the six books series in one book a few chess pieces in gold or potentially the one you'll practice on.
Oh yes! My hubby mentioned doing a stencil. I think it would be hard with spray paint, but I’ve seen people hand paint them with stencils. It would look really cool!!!
@@TheCourtneyProject Okay Yeah it probably would but painting with regular paint and having the book clamped probably work without any bleed. :) I look forward to seeing your sprayed book edges. Looks great, Courtney! I'm wondering if the clear coat over the purple would give it some shine. ~says the person who has no experience with spray paint. lol
It’s not a gloss clear coat, so I’d say no. In real life. The pages do have a shine to it from the purple! You can somewhat see it in the pics! It looks almost like it’s wet, but completely dry! I think if you put a gloss clear coat on it, it totally would! It’s worth testing!
Hey, wonderful job! Have you, or anyone else who has tried staining pages attempted to spray pages that have already been colored? I have a copy of Dune the Deluxe Edition that I love to death, but there are noticeable smudges and scratches marring the leafing. I'd love to fix it, but I'm not sure if I need to apply clear-coat as you did, or if I just need to touch it up with a dry brush and some acrylic paint.
I haven’t tried anything like that. There are a few videos on UA-cam from people who are doing high level techniques. It’s worth searching out for sure!

It was so much fun! Just gotta be patient and take your time. Lol, and don’t be like me with putting tape directly on the book. Doubled Newspaper might actually work better because you can make a full cover for the outside/inside! If you do it, please tag me because I wanna seeee!!
