To be fair, Mark Lettieri makes any guitar sound like the best guitar you've ever heard.
Buy it All Rhett and take Mark to your studio to make a great video interviewing him and playing togheter
"to be fhair" - Letterkenny
Hey Rhett can you please do a video over lonnie mack please he’s a really good player he’s the reason the whammy bar is called the whammy bar
Hope they gave you a deal! Go for it…
He’s infuriatingly good.
Dude this could be a series with you and Mark just going to shops everywhere and playing all the coolest shit.
But they have to earn.
Absolutely!
I think I've seen those videos. They're called Norman's rare guitars.
… MarkShull.
I'm sitting here loving it my own self!👋🤨👍
Mark has one of the “quietest” left hands I’ve ever seen. Literally no wasted movement, his hand barely moves when pulling out all sorts of crazy licks and chord voicings. Sounds amazing.
I've heard it called "economy of motion" and it only comes with vast amounts of playing time. All of the best players have it to some degree. The easier they make it look, the harder it likely is to play in my experience.
I saw a video of Steve Vai talking about this very thing. It was fascinating to hear him talk about it.
He's practiced a LOT and that's how you can tell. Economy of movement.
I hope you realise how lucky you are to have an amazing music shop like that near you! Local music shops are an endangered species here in the UK, so treasure what you've got and support them by buying there.
got one near me and I hope it sticks around forever it's a great lil shop
In the UK? Be thankful you live in a first world country hahaha. In my country there are only 2 proper music shops, and they are filled to the brim with budget guitars being sold at unattainable prices.
@@rodriguezelfeliz4623 Some jokers might question whether the UK's a first world country these days, but I totally get what you're saying; it's all relative and I do count myself lucky to have access to decent gear at affordable (with a bit of belt-tightening) prices. Take care and all the best.
I could listen to him play all day. That ES-175 is incredible.
The way that Mark effortlessly navigates that guitar is amazing. Every movement is with purpose and intent.
I have an ES-175 I got from a lawyer over 15 years ago. Those P-90's are magical. Glad I kept it, and wish I could play it like Mark L.
A real-life blues lawyer??
Mark is so doggone cool and what a player. That looked like a very fun time!
Seen Lettieri play in Korea a few years back--he blew my and everyone's mind and ears with his heavenly sound
This is literally the only channel that I actually WANT to watch and actually keep up with. Always something interesting and someone’s to learn. Love it.
The leslie at slow speed just sounds majestic
Mark has to be one of my favourite guitarists getting around today. The way his fingers glide across the fretboard so effortlessly is really impressive. He has such a light touch and so much dynamics. Just awesome to watch! 👏👏👏
your playin was killin it. its so inspirational to hear someone still pushing the frontier.
Been a long time since I've watched a guitar vid that just made me sit back and go Whoa! That guitar sounded phenomenal. Mark, as usual, was exceptional, and you, Rhett, have really stepped your playing up to another level! Really enjoyable!
I have a ‘52 ES 175 that is a gem. They are some of the best value vintage guitars out there right now.
I could watch you guys play different guitars/amps for hours! Mark is amazing!
These are some of my favorite videos you do! Just hanging out and jamming with cool gear. Love it man!
Awesome video! You guys are both great players. Loved that bit of Ten Years Gone. Probably my favorite Zeppelin riff.
Dude! You are just showing off now! That was the best 15 minutes of my weekend! Thanks to you and Mark, really enjoyed it! Will
Great hang . The leslie and marshal in that open space , sounded killer through my system .
Beautiful playing. Enjoyed the whole video thoroughly!
There just never is an end to the journey of trying better and better guitar. It's just so fun seeing something that piques your interest, and is, of course, just so smooth to play. Cheers Rhett.
It's a disease called GAS, and I have it real bad myself! (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) LOL --gary
Alllllllllll those beautiful guitars bro! And then you busted out '10 Years Gone' :) Totally just made my day! Keep up all the incredible content.
Two of my favorite guitarists. Enjoyed this!
Love these music shop vids where I almost feel like a part of the gang finding and trying cool stuff. Thanks for letting us all tag along!
That es175 is the sound of American music, the rockabilly tone, the country tone, the jazz tone, and the 70s funk tone all in one beautiful guitar
Also in my opinion there isn't anything better than a fender music master guitar with the mustang scale .
Hell yes. And if we count the es295 (just a gold variant), Geordie Walker got some of my favorite heavy rock/metal tones with it too.
@@thepeacefulenemy4026 Oh, yeah he did! I used to chat with Richard Fortus awhile back, and he got one of those. I said "I think of these as the Geordie Walker guitar", and he said "Geordie is the Sh*t!". I saw him (Geordie) play his when they were touring for the Revelations album...that night stuck with me for a long time.
Hey Rhett,
This was a great video! More of these! It took me by heart and soul! Thank you !;❤❤❤
Great episode. Great playing.
Great playing all round!👍
I scored a beat up es-125 earlier this year and to me it sound amazing
I love these videos where not a lot happens but just hanging out in a guitar store playing awesome guitars and amps with an amazing player like Mark!
That was pretty awesome, thanks Rhett!!!
Not only does it sound really good, but it is beautiful too. And in the hands of a couple of highly competent musicians like you guys it just sings.......
Great vid Man!
Amazing video dude. I love guitar store visits like this.
That place looks amazing! and that boy can sure play.
That ES-175 would be my dream guitar for jazz playing! Love P-90s.
Mark’s a great guy, met him last year for his solo show and he was so chill!
That's quite the shop... guitars, amps, and all that vinyl...
Great vid, great playing, wonderful gear.
I might have to make a trip to Atlanta... 😊
Saw video of Mark in Fearless Flyers. He just makes you want to go buy a baritone guitar. Rhett, you can definitely see how diverse your playing experiences have been over the last five years or so. There’s an ease in your playing that wasn’t there before. That’s not a mediocre player commenting above my pay grade, just a music listener and viewer who notices things.
Thanks Rhett, great video, Mark could make a 4x4 with fishing line sound amazing, I love listening to people how are truly gifted with any musical instrument and this was truly great.
I wholeheartedly agree on your text about and take on Mark Letterie in the intro - he's the _hottest_ pro player of our time for me as well, definitely already some sort of living legend, versed in many styles, incredible fluency and impeccable time, clarity and cleanness of tone I find second to none and a consummate, 100% _musical_ musician through and through! Definitely a "hero" on the instrument for me as well as he impressively demonstrates with his jazzy riffing here on the ES-175. Great video and very cool of you to have taken him prior to the concert! Awesome stuff!
There’s nothing like watching old dudes sit back and watch young dudes appreciate the same things they have. 😎
Wow, that guitar sounds amazing with that Leslie. Great video, as always 😊
I have that exact same Fender Musicmaster, 1977 white with black pick guard. Great video!
I wish that I could hear this high quality level of guitar noodling when I walk in to other guitar stores! Some great playing and technique on display in this video from all players!
Wow really impressed with Mark, his timing is impeccable.
Thanks for taking us along! Next best thing to being there!
Big House is, with out a doubt, my "if I hit the lottery" store. They have so much amazing stuff in there (like that Lemmy Marshall Bass stack), but it's definitely not a 'run in and grab a new guitar' store. The staff in there is top notch as well and very personable. When Onorato had both my G&L's in for service, I came VERY close to pulling the trigger on an early 90s G&L bass in there.
The new space they're in now is SO much better than their old space over in Decatur. It also makes it very easy to hit up them, the ATL Guitar Center, and Atlanta Discount in one trip.
Amazing video Rhett,
this is awesome! i live in johns creek which is right outside of Atlanta. i have never heard of these guys. def gonna check them out. thanks rhett!!!
Love the sound of those old amps. So organic.
That Leslie cabinet sounds absolutely incredible. I NEED one.
Loved the sound of the Rain Song through the Leslie.
Hello Rhett, I think it's the first time I write to you, :)
I am French Québécois, so My 'Englishe' is not that secure! :) )
I totally understand your falling in love with the 175!
Mine is a 1958, or '63, nobody's sure' it could even be a '68... with PAF pick-ups, 'Z' shaped string holder and the finish on the body is a bit crackled and almost non existant on the neck !
Same sunburst as the one you show on the VDO.
Just beautiful!
It has been very well played and meticously maintained, but long time ago, more than 40 years in fact, I decided that she would grow old with me, I'll be 70 next july, and we both, the guitar and me, have a nice, well played patina! :)
She's my lady, and I whish you can go for this one.
Yes they come at a price, and they need a bit more TLC than a Les Paul or a Tele/Strat, but the satisfaction we get from these instrument is so full, so inspiring.... worth every penny!
Thanks man, I really enjoy your VDOs.
Luc
I just bought an Ibanez version of this guitar 3 days ago!! (more to my budget). I went to my local luthier.. he had one for sale hanging around.. and it was exactly one of those AHA moments as you describe. I couldn't leave it behind! So happy with it!
Smooth and toney as all heck. Sounds fantastic
I REALLY enjoyed this video!!!!
That was sick Rhett, I smiled from beginning to end. There was almost that moment like all of us after sitting in a shop, thinking I'll eat beans for half year it will be fine. lol. All the best.
I have inherited my dad’s 1957 ES 175. The first year Gibson used PAFs. It has a single PAF in the neck. It’s incredible. Would LOVE to play an earlier one like that with a pair of p90s! Great episode. Love Mark Lettiri!!
I love how much you’ve been playing Look Ka Py Py in the videos lately hahah, possibly the funkiest guitar riff ever
The older you get, the more hypnotic that tone becomes. Absolutely beautiful and incredible. Thanks Rhett.
Agreed! It’s really gorgeous - thing is, I’m 41 going on 42, so am I supposed to be THAT hypnotized by this model of guitar?! Because I’m smitten too!
In high school I loved HARD rock & still do of course.
But at 60+, I find myself loving purty jazz guitar 😮
Man we had such a great time! No better afternoon than hanging with you guys listening to incredible music! @bighouseguitars
Couple years ago, I found a heavily modified 58 es-125. The body, paint, p90, and the pickguard were original and practically nothing else. The bridge pickup is a patent number from the 60s, it has a bigsby, grover tuners were added, a toggle switch was added, and 2 knobs were added for the bridge pickup. It does that out of phase thing as well, it is a stellar blues guitar.
I also had one of those fender musicmasters from the 70s as well. Someone painted over the original white with orange house paint. The neck felt amazing and the original pickup sounded pretty good. Sold it to my guitar tech who loves it.
Wow that Leslie cabinet. Awesome!
Mark LETTIERI is fabulous. No matter the instrument, Mark will make them sing. He is really something. With his band or Snarky Puppy really one of the most talented guitar players today. Thanks for bringing him to the channel≥ a real treat. You truly nailed Iommy tone with that beast of a Custom. fuckin' awsome video thumbs up 100% Rhett, well done!
Good golly guitar is fun! Cheers Rhett!!
Great playing. Man I sure loved the Peter green out of phase tone
Nice user name 🤘
Rhett, what a great episode! Also big plus on Big House, its a very cool store.
i have the great privilege of living in the same metropolitan area where ML lives so i get to see him gig from time to time. i've had the opportunity to meet and interact with him on a handful of occasions and he's just the most genuine dude. very fun video. i'd love to hang with him just like this.
That was so fun inspiring.
Mark is fun to listen to. 👏 👌
Beautiful ES-175! The tuners might have been replaced. Or possibly just the buttons if the old ones rotted (fairly common). Hope you snag that. It sounds incredible...
i went to this store after seeing dead and company! i got to play the guitar and the leslie. both were fantastic. and the staff was incredibly kind. excellent store!
Gawd Rett, that was so good. Wow!!!
That Super Bass with the 4x15 is exactly the thing I absolutely don’t need cause not enough space and too loud.. but I’d definitely buy it. You know, just for fun 😂.
You two should just go halfsies on that Gibson. Saw Mark play in Liverpool with his quartet when the tour came to England. What an astounding talent. Ridiculously funky evening!
ES 175 with p90s is my favorite guitar. Ever since I've heard old Jim Hall records.
Rotary is the best effect ever. Thanks for taking us to the store.
What a sick video 👏👏 amazing !
Mark is so insanely good, easily one of the best guitar players alive in my opinion
That Leslie Speaker stuff is so cool! It would be so dope if ya could do a video on the Leslie Speaker or whatever. It just seems to me like Leslie is a very unknown effect that isn't talked about much.
Great video. A music store like that would be a cool place to go check out some time.
You guy ROCK!!!
Saw Mark at the Open Chord in Knoxville with Andy Wood last year, then again in San Diego at Guitar Workshop Plus, and I’ll see him again in August at Andy Wood’s Woodshed Guitar Experience. Monster player.
It's amazing how the same guitar going thru the same amp can have such a different tone
Rhett...I'm surprised that your first thought with the Leslie wasn't Shine On You Crazy Diamond! Haha! Fantastic playing as always and what a cool shop
That was an exceptional guitar!
Yeh. That 175 is a real guitar. And people are finally starting to dig the OOP sound!
These all.sound sooooo good!!
Aside from all of the heavy reverb all over the place, I kept going back to that beautiful sounding Gibson at the start of the video. Wow what a find!
I love Mark’s new PRS Fiore Sunflower burst. It’s one of the best guitars I have ever played.
I have one of the black ES-165 that I converted to 2 P90(out of phase) & Bigsby. It’s a beast of a guitar. KEEPER!
A great time as always
I didn’t know a 4x15 existed! And the guitar through the Leslie sounded like an organ at the very beginning, which I love!
great stuff
Incredible !!
My brother has a vintage ES-175, and it is amazing to say the least. It's all original, made in 1964, and in great shape. It has the wooden bridge, and split inlays just like the one in the video. It has a single patent sticker humbucker, but it's not at the bridge position, it's at the neck but lower than where a neck pickup is usually placed. It's the only Gibson model I've ever seen like that. (Though I wouldn't be surprised to find out there's more) Sounds great and has the best neck I've ever played, nice and thin. Back when I was a beginner, I wasn't supposed to touch it. Of course, that forbidden fruit made it so much more tempting. That was the guitar I was using at the time when things started to come together for me as a guitarist. When thing started to gel, become second nature, and I realized this was something that I can get good at. Dare I say, I might even have a talent for. That was when I fell in love with the guitar. So, that ES-175, and all ES-175s actually, will always have a special place in my heart.
That funk playing is amazing!
Hey Rhett, would love to see a video discussing the differences in wax potted pickups vs unpotted pickups
