- Trying a little something different here on this one. Had a little sit down with my old pal and ferocious bass player, Steve Mackey.
He’s a fine human being and monster musician.

Thanks for watching y’all! This is fun stuff 👍
Thank *you*, man. So great.
Hope to enjoy future installments. This is quality viewing, right here.
I wanna move just to take lessons from you, Brett, and er bodies uncle Larry😅
this boy is special...in so many ways. a REAL bass player and a REAL human being
Love you cats
Met Steve many times all over Nashville with many of the guys y’all mentioned. Great, incredible musician and humble dude🕺.
Thanks Guthrie for having him highlighted on your channel.
The adventure continues, for sure🎸.
When I took a lesson in that room. You noticed me looking around and you said what is it to small?? I said no, I just think about all your videos you done here and I can’t believe I’m in here w ya!
Thanks for the stories. Not sure why I had not figured out who Steve was in the Nashville scene. Thanks for the introduction.
Thanks guys. Really nice few minutes we've all just had. It means a lot to have these kind of little gatherings. It made me feel good.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for giving us bass players some love... that was great to listen to.
Our pleasure!
Very nice Guthrie. Us living room guitarists love hearing about how you all make a living in music in Nashville. Looking forward to Pt. 2.
Steve has appeared on many Tom Bukovac videos, but it was great to have the opportunity to hear from him about his life and musical past. Great musician and amazing career! Thanks Guthrie and Steve!
Stevie Mack . Over time , I've seen Steve on many YT videos .
This is the stuff. I really appreciate the hang. Would love if this was live and we could ask questions as you see some of these guys do! Maybe next time?
Guthrie, this shit is gold man. I love the history, the stories, the flow of your conversation. You host a great interview!
Hey, Guthrie. Very cool hang. Thanks for bringing Steve in to share with the community. I produced a fiery little band called Renegade in Muscle Shoals before Lee Roy got his big break with Arista in Nashville. The “other” guitarist in that band with Lee Roy Parnell was a young cat named Jack Pearson. 😮
That’s super cool!! We all love Jack here! He’s the cat!
@@guthrietrappmusic Would really like to hear more about Jack Pearson, how he's doing these days. What a talent !!
Thanks so much for this guys . This answered a really important question for me when steve was explaining about fighting rhythmically with that particular drummer and when he relaxed about it and didnt try to make it ''perfect '' then it worked. I'm primarilly a bassist and have just started playing with drummers again. Being a groove player and being blessed all my life with great drummers made me into the player that I am . Since that time, playing with different drummers brought about some of the same difficulties in which Steve was talking about. from what he said, its about adapting and growing as a player and not just thinking that the drummer should be playing like you want them to play ,but concentrating on making it sound good as a unit and relaxing into it to paraphrase Steve. Thats speaks volumes to me. Thank you
That’s so cool! Thanks for the feedback. Love it!
To all the bass players out there, if y’all don’t know what a REAL bass player is, don’t bother moving to Nashville. Cheers to all the old pros and all of the aspiring pros equally! Great content, Guthrie!
Love the interviews and conversations. Looking forward to more like this.
That last quote from Steve should be on a sign at the outskirts of Nashville 🤣
Guthrie knows that we are the stories we tell -- and Steve's story is golden! Thank you both for being real, and for including us all in a fascinating narrative.
Awesome interview Guthrie. Would love to hear a part 2.
Ps. I would love to hear Steve talking about his thinking process when he needs to come up with a groove 🙏 Maybe he could name most important bass lessons he has ever learned. Or his top 5 Grooves to learn on a bass :) And why does he love to play with you Guthrie :) Cheers from Poland
Guthrie, please do a part 2 with Steve .
My Dad, Terry Patterson (God rest his soul) and my little brother Tejay, thinks the absolute world of Steve!! What a kind soul!! Not to mention he’s a pretty amazing bass player as well! Glad to see him happy and successful!! Well deserved and certainly earned!! Thanks for sharing!!
Wow, that’s so awesome! Thanks man
As a guitarist turned bass player so I can get some gigs, I’d love to have Mackey back with a bass in his hand. Help me out brother. Fun episode GT. Thanks for sharing
Great listening to Steve Mackey talk. Love the story of his neighbor who had owned a record store giving Steve all his records!
A video with him playing would be awesome! Maybe tips on getting in the pocket with a bassist??
Great GT! Definitely need a part 2. Great to see your fellow musicians hanging together.
Coming soon!
Good stuff! Definitely waiting for part 2!
Wicked awesome post Guthrie! Keep them coming!
Thanks Guthrie, love your Chanel! It is always fascinating to hear the histories and paths various musicians such as Steve have taken. There are so many connections behind the scenes; who knew Steve used to room with Reese Wynans!
First time watching the channel. Love it!
Cool stories y’all. Steve is Nashville Royalty. 👍🎸😎✌️
Great conversation, fellas! 🥃
Glad you enjoyed it!
Steve is Awesome! Thanks for this, Guthrie! Definitely do another/part 2!!
It's great to put a name to the face, as here. I've watched the YT video of Clapton and Frampton play While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the 2019 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas dozens of times, and now I know that the smiling bass player in the middle between Clapton and Frampton was Steve Mackey. What a great performance!! What a great guy he appears to be! Thank you!
Thanks Guys! Awesome listen.
Good hang! Cheers Guthrie and Steve!!
This is a treasure. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello Guthrie and Steve. I've been to the Vintage Room at the Guitar Center on Sunset in Hollywood and it too looks bigger on TV than in real life. So from here on in Guthrie's music room should be called the Guthrie Trapp Vintage Room. Thanks for the head's up on Blue Run Bourbon. I'm a scotch sipper who hasn't quite found a bourbon to my liking and will have to give it a sip.
Thanks for sharing!
...very nice " throw back" secession, thanks....nice to get different perspectives....
More to come!
So great to see you having a guest!
Nice! Steve seems like an awesome guy, which is one of the greatest parts of being a musician: we usually get to meet awesome, interesting people.
Couldn't agree more!
Sweet! Was like hanging with you guys in the backroom after a show, just chewing the fat...
Steve Mackey is one cool cat! Can't wait to hear more!
Good stuff! Thank you gentlemen.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Guthrie, loved every minute great stuff man, yet another great musician to meet on your very cool channel,,
Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ok Guthrie! As a bass player/ guitarist this is the sh#t!!! Thanks for highlighting Steve. I started wondering who Steve is by seeing videos with Lucinda Williams!
That was a great hang. Thanks GT !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yessir! Bassist new to town and always happy to see some Steve Mackey content. Thanks Guthrie!
More to come!
Hey Guthrie! The 'name' of your channel IS.. "Guthrie Trapp"! Can't get any better than that!! (I was flying out of BNA yesterday when you posted this. I delivered a Prevost Coach to Goodlettsville in the morning)!! Unfortunately, in-and-out, but I'll be back and hopefully I will catch you somewhere, soon! 👍🎸✌😎
Awesome.
Well done gents!! Looking forward to part 2 !!
Great interview! Love this stuff! Guys like Steve know so much and have so many stories to tell!
More to come!
Awesome, it's always interesting to hear a little history of a musicians journey !
More to come!
Hey, GT. What a great hang. Good, genuine folks attract good, genuine folks. By the way, the In Stereo tee shirts are very comfy. Cheers, GB
Right on!
I love Delbert McClinton and Leroy Parnell....if you have played in those guys bands then you know how to groove! Mucho respect Steve!
Really interesting . Thanks for doing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
MACK!!! :)
Ok . Now I’m laughing my head off! Glad you got rid of the riff raff!😂
G.T. this was great, it would cool if you could do more!😊
More to come!
Looking forward to the follow up video!!! 🤞🏻😎
Guthrie, this is gold. You can and should take this new podcast idea to the hilt - do for the real Nashville musician scene what Spittin' Chiclets is for hockey and Bussin' with the Boys is for Football.
That’s just what we intend to do! Thanks!
@@guthrietrappmusic - and if you're not familiar with Spittin' Chiclets (meaning getting teeth knocked out on the ice...) it can get wild. So be bold!!

Awesome!! Would be super cool to see more guests. I love the learning content, but this is very cool too!!

You're welcome!
Top shelf bass man!!!
Thank you 😊
Love it man thanks . For part 2 ,gear ? ...and yeah playing with drummers ....I know you guitar players get board ...:-)
Too late...to turn back now... I believe I believe I believe I'm fallin' in love! Brings me back to riding shotgun with Mom and listening to AM radio!
Cool
just saw today some report that Nashville's population is rising by 87 people per day. WTF!!!
Yea it's hard to quit drinking but it's worth it
Being a quitter is wild.
@@getwhatyougive yea it's good to quit thing you can't control.
@@andrewclemons8619 but you CAN control it. No one is twisting your arm to do anything.

RIP MIKE HENDERSON P[CKED UP ON MIKE AND THE BLUEBLOODS MANY YEARS AGO GREAT ROCKING SLIDE PLAYER AND MORE
Steve looks like Derek Trucks 😂
😂😂😂😂😂❤
Steve talked about Lee Roy Parnell, Delbert McClinton, and Marty Stuart, and reminded me someone uploaded this old Marty Party episode (along with Shelby Lynn, who has that audience in the palm of her hand) . Is that Steve playing with Lee Roy?
