They picked up a game guide at a local book sale for Pokemon Fire Red (possibly mom's biggest regret ever), and none of us had ever played it. Also there's the mod for overclocking the vita during game sessions and at hight to max performance for me some N64 games run a bit better, and starfox for SNES runs better, it's not a constant 60 fps, and dips hard, but the stuttering is way less than normal, so if you haven't played with that, that is an interesting mod to experiment certain games with. Thanks, yeah it's been quite a journey. I was always impressed by this device and its Sony content, but it took a while to really get RetroArch running. It doesn't hurt that the latest 1.9.4 RA is much more stable than in December when I started!
I found that using the L key as the hotkey was causing an issue in game where I needed to hold the L key (it was a GBA title). It would accepted the input and you would see movement on the character, but it wouldn't hold the action that was needed. I ended up having to change the hotkey, and once that was changed everything worked correctly in game. Great Video!
Just a quick note; when I was going through this tutorial, nowhere does it say that you have to hit 'start' in vitashell and change the directory of 'memory card' to 'sd2vita', otherwise when you connect your Vita to your PC, windows explorer only reads the default 8GB Vita memory card. Hope this helps!
After learning all the tricks you showed in the vid, it has made emulation on the psvita a whole new experience, and now with the knowledge I can carry that onto other devices when setting up retroarch :)
One thing I would recommend is getting a "overclock" plugin even for RetroArch as for one thing it makes the higher accuracy SNES9x 2010 core run at nearly full speed in a lot of titles plus some of the newer Homebrew ports either straight up need an OC to reach full speed or it helps prevent frame rate drops and helps with general smoothness. It's also handy for some native titles as well like the Jak and Daxter collection that can have frame rate issues.
Hi Retro Games! I am loving your content! I would love to hear more about the handheld capabilities of playing multi-player over Wi-Fi. I have the feeling this could be very easily achieved with the vita but I cannot really find anything about it. Thanks for the great videos!
Hey Daniel. I hope you are in good health. I recently got a PS Vita. I have a question: Is it necessary to download the games from other places other than the vita? Also, many games are not available on the PKG like Shrek, Ghost Rider and more. Can this be fixed? Thank you.
You are one of the extremely few content creators who is very decent and professional in your videos and I personally thank you for that. ❤️ Keep it up please. Most content creators since UA-cam was founded focus more on themselves than on the subjects they are talking about and end up being Bigheaded Oafs thinking they are at par with A-List Celebrities just because their contents became viral and have so many hit views and end up being pathetically expressive which really irritates me and I end up blocking them. All my support for your content and I consider this a great reference channel. Thanks! 👍
Fabulous video as always and you explained everything so well. This is only way to emulate 8 and 16 bit systems well on Vita. Stand-alone apps don’t quite cut it. Looking forward to your N64 video.

Also when I scan the directory for the roms, nothing happens, I don't get a separate row like for the nes like you have.

Great video! I don't like how Retroarch is set up, it's a confusing mess, and it can be buggy at times. I was just about to give up on it, but I started over from scratch and following your guide I'm finally becoming accustomed to it. Thank you!
Bro honestly I love your videos, I recently got interested in getting the rg351 but after getting lost in all the options in your videos I think I'm gunna just save money and dust of my vita! Lots of inspiration in your videos and they're all really well done 👍
I know I'm a bit late but if you haven't found them yet just Google for GBA bios bin file or whatever console you want they all need to be bios bin files
No offense or anything, love your channel, but this video perfectly demonstrates why I both sort of respect but mostly hate retroarch. Jack of all trades, master of none. UI is a unintuitive headache for me to navigate, making setup for each emulator a chore. Always get errors for some silly reason because you didn't setup something perfectly. Works great IF you set it up correctly but getting there is such a huge pain in the ass.
Yep, totally agree with you Rob. The app has been in dire need of a real UI overhaul for many years now. They're in a weird spot where they set up the interface imperfectly, but they're so deep down the rabbit hole that they may not ever recover. It took me nine months of tinkering with the interface on various systems to get to the level of knowledge I have today, and I'm by no means a pro. At that point it's not the fault of the user, but of the system.
Thanks for making this video. Cleaned up my retroarch pretty well and added the filters. I'm DRok17, so I was pretty aware of RetroBuilder lol. Thanks again
Great video! But to have Yoshi's island running at close to 60fps, I have to use snes9x 2005 (non-plus), and even 2002 if I want to run the normal2x filter. I wonder why it runs better for you.

Tried an overclock plugin yet? There are a few to choose from & are easy to install via Autoplugins 2. Lolicon OCs the Vita up to 500 MHz vs stock 333MHz.
I like to switch between Retroarch on Vita and Wii. I do this because the Wii can output a 240p 15KHz signal that looks beautiful on a CRT or through an upscaler like the RetroTINK 5X. Make sure the Vitas SDcard is formatted to FAT32 and point the Retroarch savefile directory to the SDCard. When switching to the Wii, turn off the Vita, extract the SDcard, and insert it to the USB port on the Wii. Run Retroarch on the Wii and continue your progress where you left off. When done, insert the SDcard back to the Vita and continue playing portably.
This is piss poor tutorial. Seems like your cutting steps and not exactly showing everything. video is all distorted and the instructions are not exactly clear. Where did you even manage to get the games files or what are the extensions of the game files?
After watching the video the tutorial was basically perfect. Everything is explained clearly and done step by step. Any video distortion is on your side but the video runs perfectly on my end. Some settings in retroarch have been moved around a bit since this video released but all it takes is a little effort on your part to READ and they aren't too hard to find. You either source the games and bios files from your own personal copies OR do what most of us probably did and use good old Google to find a site that hosts them. The written guide on his site explains exactly what file extension you need and any specific naming conventions for them you need to follow. It's illegal to distribute roms so he's obviously not going to link to exactly where you get them. That should have been extremely obvious. I personally use Vimms Lair.
Seriously thank you. I usually don't follow video guides but yours is literally perfect ❤️🙏 I have a question though. Are you able to play GameCube games on Retroarch on the PS Vita?
Great video! BTW I can't help but notice that you have PS2 games installed on your vita as well. will you be doing a tutorial on how to do that too? Thank you
Old video but QUESTION for anyone that can answer. I downloaded the Retroarch from the VitaDB, instead of manually installing it from their website and using vitashell to move it over. I didn't move over any BIOS files.. but after I scanned my NES games over, they played seemingly just fine. Does the version from VitaDB of Retroarch already have the BIOS?? Because my system folder is empty, and doesn't show any BIOS. if anyone knows why it's working, please let me know!
Tip for anyone using Retrobuilder 3.0 If nothing shows up in the VPK folder remove the .png from the file name. I couldn't get it to work so I transferred the files over to the vita with the intention of using bubble builder instead and when I looked at the files in vitashell I noticed that it had .png twice so the file name looked like this icon0.png.png. I then went back to Retrobuilder, removed .png from all 3 files, used easy VPK and it worked.
Thanks for the video! Following this made RetroArch become a way more bearable experience, and it seems that in the last couple updates they fixed a lot of stuff, the only issues I've found from the little I tested were that turning on that filter option made the sound get crackly and, I've noticed a little bit of screen tearing in some games.
I wish they would actually make a “yeah man I wanna do it” button.

@@X862go except they aren't. Searched the data zip file nothing there.
Best tutorial about RetroArch for the PS Vita, thank you!
Wow, thanks!
You need to be canonized as a saint. Thank you for all of your Vita content!
Hi Retro Games! I am loving your content! I would love to hear more about the handheld capabilities of playing multi-player over Wi-Fi. I have the feeling this could be very easily achieved with the vita but I cannot really find anything about it. Thanks for the great videos!
You got me to switch and Im well happy, tried before and never got it working right. This got me enjoying it as it should be.. Many thanks
Thanks to this video and the written guide I was able to setup RetroArch on my PSVITA OLED.
Your style is so pragmatic, yet casual and fun.
I played this a second time in the background just for the feel goods.
Awesome man!
Great guide. Especially appreciate going through all the little settings that make a huge difference 👍👍👍
Keep it up please.
Looking forward to your N64 video.
thanks so much I alsways hated retroarch but it's just because nobody takes the time to make very clear step by step instructions like you have.
I'm very happy to have found you. This channel is great and I recently got a nodded ps vita.. But I had no idea about how to make sense a of all these directories and extra apps xD
Thank you very much, you are legend sent by God to help us poor souls find the real purpose of owning a vita. With lots of Love from India. Cheers mate.
My pleasure!
I'm kind of lost at the bios files part. You briefly mention them and they are nowhere to be found in the description, i checked the written guide and can't find where to download them anywhere.
Also when I scan the directory for the roms, nothing happens, I don't get a separate row like for the nes like you have.
I like turtles.
same here, where do you find them?
This is what I was waiting for 👍💪
Happy to provide!
@@RetroGameCorps I've done it today works perfect 👌

WHere can i download those bios files? @Retrogamecorps
The best RetroArch guide on UA-cam. This channel will grow fast 👌👌
the XMB layout for me doesn't looks like yours for some reason. It doesn't have the horizontal cross bar and shows only the text and the current vertical section that I'm on

Best retroarch tutorial for ps vita on entire youtube
Hi I'm stuck at moving the retroarch folder over to the data folder. When I run retroarch and quit..
There is no data>retroarch>system folder
What do I do ?
im having the same issue
Great video! I don't like how Retroarch is set up, it's a confusing mess, and it can be buggy at times. I was just about to give up on it, but I started over from scratch and following your guide I'm finally becoming accustomed to it. Thank you!
where do i get the bios from?
github.com/archtaurus/RetroPieBIOS/tree/master/BIOS search here
Wow, I thought I knew everything, but you showed me a few more tricks! Thanks!!!
there is not a system folder on the computer after I connect to usb open, data, retroarch, and its missing system

Try running the retroarch first. Then maybe it will show the system files
Bro honestly I love your videos, I recently got interested in getting the rg351 but after getting lost in all the options in your videos I think I'm gunna just save money and dust of my vita! Lots of inspiration in your videos and they're all really well done 👍
I'm confused, where do you get the bios files?
did you find them? i´m lost here...
I got mine by typing Bios files for retro games consoles, then went to an Archive site that showed up
The video just kept getting better and better.
Where do I find the bios files?
I know I'm a bit late but if you haven't found them yet just Google for GBA bios bin file or whatever console you want they all need to be bios bin files
This is a great video, any updates in the last year though ?
💯💯 saved me the typing 🙋♂️
Thanks for making this video. Cleaned up my retroarch pretty well and added the filters. I'm DRok17, so I was pretty aware of RetroBuilder lol. Thanks again
5:15 and where do i get those?????
Best guide videos I've ever saw.. Not only this one every single video. Thanks, man!!!
Thanks for this! I've had Retroarch installed on the Vita for awhile but never knew about the video filters or thumbnails you could add.
I dont know What to do anymore, my retroarch doesnt reconize the vita buttons, even using retrovita

Great video! But to have Yoshi's island running at close to 60fps, I have to use snes9x 2005 (non-plus), and even 2002 if I want to run the normal2x filter. I wonder why it runs better for you.

Hi, Where can I get the Bios files? Thanks
lol, I asked the same question. Thought I was being dumb, haha. I hope we find out soon as Im stuck now.....
@@JesusIsKing373 idk for this one but for PS1 emul for example, everything is legal except roms and BIOS, you need to find it by yourself on the dark path of the internet
@@chl6916 does anyone have a link to the listed bios files he required on the video. im stuck on this part! thank you
I just highlighted the text, and right clicked. And there should be a search option for some of them at least, hope this helps.
By the way...Nice shelves collection...
All I have is a Vita system device and one 512 gb Samsung SD card... but loaded with: movies...music...games...Psp..psx...Vita...Snes..Dreamcast...Fighting...Aventure...Puzzle...Racing...RPG...etc...😇🙃...
Bios and cores link please!! Or where to find them.. I’m stuck there. Thanks in advance
Did u ever find it I’m stuck on tht as well
? Cores are in the data zip that accompanies the RetroArch vpk.... it gets updated with each new RetroArch version.... No brainer.
No 2: Use a fucking search engine for bioses man..... Bioses are copyrighted & not readily available. Just put your effort into searching instead of begging/baiting.
No 3: I'm NOT overreacting. You are lazy or dishonest.
you'll have to search for them yourselves there's a wiki dedicated for cores and you'll just have to download each of them.
Did you find them? Let me know if you need help still.
@@TexasHollowEarth I mean you kinda are I didn’t even know wtf a bio file was and I didn’t even know you had to just go and find them he didn’t specify neither does his write guide
Something else worth noting if your using sd2vita remember to change the usb option from memory card to sd2vita before you start.
Nice video, the Vita is impressive but to get to this stage it does take a lot of hard work. Probably just about worth it.
My Friend... you are such nice human being. The info and details you give is very helpful. Thanx mate. I will subscribe. )
Thanks for the video. Figuring out how to use shaders makes retro games look gorgeous on the vita.
I still can't get FF4 on the gba to run smoothly with retroarch though
Tried an overclock plugin yet? There are a few to choose from & are easy to install via Autoplugins 2. Lolicon OCs the Vita up to 500 MHz vs stock 333MHz.
@@TexasHollowEarth Will overclocking automatically improve performance? GBA doesn't run too well.
WOW. THOUSAND THANKS!! I've been looking this tutorial for months!
You're welcome!
probably already answered but where do i get the BIOS files from ??
I found the list of bios from the written guide, but I couldn't find the link to download them either.
@@ChristopherLKL I just copied it into google and searched each one individually.
Same issue here
I like to switch between Retroarch on Vita and Wii. When done, insert the SDcard back to the Vita and continue playing portably.
data --> retroarch folder -->no system folder help pls lol
I"m in the same boat. Retro arch isn't dumping the new files after I reconnect to vita shell after first running retro and quitting.
Try going into Vitashell, hit start and switch USB device to sd2vita.
Very in-depth man, very informative!!!! Keep it up!!!!
I usually don't follow video guides but yours is literally perfect ❤️🙏
I have a question though. Are you able to play GameCube games on Retroarch on the PS Vita?
Damn, time to find back my old Vita lost somewhere in my room 😅 this is pretty cool!
I just got my moded vita and I LOVE IT
Excellent guide many thanks 👍
Perfect !!!!!
Thanks for the clear explanation !!!
Thx again
Wow, this is such a helpful video! Does updating the Vita to the latest firmware make you lose all your files?
"Yeah man, I wanna do it" - super nice tutorials, thanks a lot!
Superb guide, and I'm now all set. Fantastic.
Great video! BTW I can't help but notice that you have PS2 games installed on your vita as well. will you be doing a tutorial on how to do that too? Thank you
Finally been waiting for this guide thank you!
Hope you enjoy!
Don’t know why but thanks for the info
Tip for anyone using Retrobuilder 3.0
If nothing shows up in the VPK folder remove the .png from the file name.
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuu this was very frustarting but got it working because of this comment
Pity about FBNeo. Thank you for the video Russ
My pleasure!
