Well said. I always, and still do love SM2's web swinging but my biggest problem with it (especially playing it as a kid) was that it wasn't cinematic. I wanted to re-create those epic swinging moments from the Rami movies but couldn't quite pull it off. SlyTF1 it’s not that it copies a movie, that is just ignorant. The game isn’t based on the movies, it’s a genuine effort from the same people who made Spyro. Literally the most recognizable character in gaming bar/ maybe four. Mario and Luigi, Zelda, and in recent years God of War. The reason it looks cinematic is because the gameplay is honed to such a magnitude that it just seems pre rendered, when in reality the game is just that good. +Red_Thunder 02 I'm not assuming shit. The Last of Us and God of War are complete dog shit for trying to replicate movies too. Breath of the Wild looks like a GAME and plays like a GAME. The other games you listed play like interactive movies. And Homecoming is easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. I walked out of that shit pissed off.
same though I do hope they add more swinging poses from the Raimi films and the Ultimate comics. I getting a little bored of seeing the one arm 360 turn swing
Thought I was the only one that noticed that he barely missed the truck, since the game's physics don't allow Spidey to hit the ground while web swinging. Glad to see someone pointed it out.
They do sorta get around it by having a different animation when Spidey is too near the ground. You can see him pull down hard on the web in an attempt to transfer his momentum forward as apposed to when he is far above the ground where he just latches and plays out the parabolic swing.
GhastlyCloud 775 yeah I have, but no street landings. Just standing on top of buildings or inside of them. Haven’t seen footage of street civilians or cars up-close. I grew up with Spiderman ps1 where you couldn’t touch the ground. So I was just curious.
This is 100% hands-down the best breakdown of web-swinging mechanics that is actually QUANTIFIABLE. I read so many complaints but this video gets right to the data and explains it in an a concise, articulate way. Bottom-line, this helps to understand what the physics workarounds are and some insight into why Insomniac would choose this route. I like it. It would be amazing to see better animations around swinging if they're going to let players swing that low without ever hitting the ground or a vehicle (such as the 2F trick in SM2), but either way it's a good system. I'd be surprised, actually, if they never update animations like this, based upon their response to our feedback even before the game is in our hands. Great video, thank you.
I think the Spider-Man PS4 swinging looks great and fun but I don't like that it holds your hand and doesn't let you touch the ground. That I find kinda annoying. It should be that if you're good at it then you won't hit the ground because of skill and if you suck then you hit the ground because you suck and need more practice
Spider-Man1962 you’re acting like being able to press R2 at the right time is a considerable skill gap when it’s not. If the safety barrier was turned off, there’d be many instances where the player would hit the ground just because Spidey threw his web line too far, making it not the players fault, thus making it a frustrating experience.
I think having swinging collision with cars (and maybe pedestrians) was the real issue that they were trying to avoid with that, which is understandable.
I agree with everything in this video, except, I personally don’t think TASM 2 and SMPS4’s physics are very similar. In TASM 2, one of the biggest complaints was that there was no speed or momentum in the web swinging. It was very up and down, and usually halted you between swings, whereas this one seems much better when it comes to momentum upon web release and between swings. There were some problems people had with the momentum directly following E3, because the footage of falling from the Empire State and swinging at the last minute didn’t give the momentum it should’ve. It highlighted the very real issue of vertical speed transitioning into horizontal speed following a swing. Insomniac have since said that they were working on that, and I’m hoping with everything I have that that specific issue gets better.
JC Music oh and you know the webs actually stick to what your swinging off of in this one. oh and it's not the same animation over and over and over. oh and it's just overall 10 times better then TASM 2 web slinging
Brandon C the webs stick to buildings but they don't affect how you actually swing. When he sticks his web to a building his trajectory Still Remains completely straight regardless of the direction of the web
Nostalgia for SM2 is making fan boys have a hissy fit. SMps4 is being talked about as a GOTY candidate. NO spiderman game has ever had that honor, lets be happy about that and just enjoy it when it comes out.
To be honest I see more hissy fits being thrown by those excited by SMPS4 and hyped by the prospect of GOTY, taking offense to anyone not sharing their utmost optimism. You guys really need a reality check if you think SM is going to seriously challenge the likes of GOW and RDR2 for GOTY. Insomniac are a good and respected developer but they're not at such a caliber. That isn't so much of genuinely "having an honor", as much as it really is just a tragic causality of optimistic delusion.
am i the only one that doesn't really like spiderman 2's web swinging and just find it really hard to watch? every time he swings, he just slows down so quickly, like pushing paper in the wind, and i feel like the camera is just too far away, and some of the swinging feels incredibly ridged, like there's barely any turning, you just gotta hit buildings and hope for the best either way, i see why people like the web swinging, but personally i prefer cinematic feeling, so i'm going with Spiderman ps4
Zodiac Boy, that's fair enough, i totally understand if people want that, but i think the whole slowing down every time he swings is kinda unrealistic, but sure.
I seen gameplay of him doing so,so don't tell me you can't because you obvious don't know what you talking about.i have no reason to lie,so wait until the game come out and you'll see for yourself.
The nitpicking is at an all time high. It might be an unfortunate imperfection but it still looks beautiful. You can hardly notice until you go frame by frame.
That one Asian guy There are few and i mean few "issues" that ive seen from gameplay and most of it stemmed from the E3 gameplay. Its been cleaned up alot and to go frame by frame just to point out a animation issue that a normal person wouldnt necessarily see at full speed is ridiculous and super nitpicky. And if this comes out as a glaring concern then someone has issues. The only issue that made me go "ehhhhhh" was when Kingpin throws Spider-Man through the wall but the wall breaks before Spidey hits it. Thats all. But that sure in the hell isnt going to deter me from buying them game. Lucas nitpicks out the ass.
It's not Nitpicking, it's the fact that the majority of fans of Spider-Man 2 fell in love with the extremely satisfying web swinging mechanics, it's what made Spider-Man 2 for them, then imagine that every Spider-Man game that gets released after it can't measure up to the sheer beauty you experienced almost a decade and a half ago, and then insomniac introduces themselves as the people to bring that wonderful feeling back to you. But this just shows that they probably have absolutely no idea what made Spider-Man 2's web swinging so perfect, and everyone invested in this game is let down once again. These "nitpicks" are what made one of the greatest experiences in video game history, and without them, the web swinging in this game is just another piss-poor, shallow attempt at a game that defined a generation of video games, and will cause this game to be panned by a large portion of the fanbase who will probably never again trust anyone who claims that they will bring back the web swinging physics they all fell in love with.
Again, you don't have to go frame by frame to notice the animation problems lol. Don't get me wrong still buying this already pre ordered it been a spider-man fan since i was a kid. But when there's glaring problems and fanboys don't notice it and automatically name it as "nitpicking" it just shows that they and are blinded it becomes a problem.
Xander Whovian All I can say is that it is soooooooo so obvious that you have paid absolutely no attention to any gameplay that has ever been shown of this game or any interview done with Brian Intihar. And the audacity it takes to say it’s a piss poor attempt is the most ignorant statement anyone could make about this game.
martin53mattsson so you're saying Boring, not challenging webswinging >>>>>>>>>>> exciting, fun and you actually have to pay semi attention and think of your moves, gaining speed and momentum as a reward for your skill? Lol ok
I wish they would've just let the real time physics go and added certain animations for running on the ground or Spidey automatically lifting his legs to avoid cars.
That one Asian guy how is that weak, I find the criticism in this video pretty weak. Well I guess their criticism being weak is just subjective, no need to get your feelings hurt over it, just move on. Its a videogame, it will never have 100% realistic physics, in ac the protagonist jumps on a pile of hay from 200ft, in uncharted nathan can rock climb with gun wounds. So they just decided to prioritize fun factor over realistic physics which is how most of the gamers would prefer it. And it looks amazing. Thats the reason why I disliked this video. I dont care of you find it week or not, but thats my take on this vid.
Easy solution: let us turn on & off hitting-ground-while-swinging-protection. Job done. If you want a realistic approach, you'll turn it off, if you want something more cinematic based, you can always keep it on.
Well if codemasters can change the physics of a game for your likings (Dirt 4 allows casual and hardcore selection) and WarThunder lets you close the "instructor" (an option automatically steers the aircraft when you are about to hit the ground), I guess they can do it as well. Especially WarThunder's system is pretty close to this one. I know it isn't the easiest thing in the world to do but its also not the hardest.
Mert Ronael you cant just “put an option” to take away an integral aspect of the swinging. It’s not just a physics tweak, it’s a defined feature of the code that was willingly put there early in development. Taking away the barrier from the ground would mean a complete reworking of the swinging code and days of play testing making sure you don’t glitch the fuck out when you hit a car or civilian.
Yeah I want the rush of just missing a truck while I swing through a street. This is a PS4 game 2018, if they can't let you run on the ground while swinging and get the physics right, like the momentum carried into a web swing jumping from empire State, then what the fuck??
Thanks a lot for this, usually people just complained about how Spider-Man looks like he's floating when he shoots his web, but you told us exactly why that happens. Nice job!
YES EXACTLY. ive been so dissapointed with how floaty sm ps4 looks when swinging. sure it might be a great game but it still seem that sm 2 is the best swinging.
You see, we need more people like this. People that calmly address the situation and reasonably point out flaws without outright calling the game a disappointment, and actually having evidence and examples. I can see his point and agree with him almost completely. Great video, Lucas.
A lot of fair points. SM2 had some great interactions with the webs and physics, but the animations were kind of janky at times and the overall game didn't have as much fun factor as the web-slinging did. Meanwhile, SMPS4 may not have quite as in-depth physics going on, but it's still quite solid and flexible, in addition to what may possibly be the best combat since Web of Shadows. Hopefully Insomniac will take notes with what people like/dislike about the swinging, and perhaps attempt to create something as mechanically deep as SM2 for those seeking more complexity and risk as the webhead.
Very well explained. Now i understand why Insomniac let Spidey move forward before the web is attached while web slinging, even though i would have preferred a more realistic approach where you just hit the ground when you swing too late. However, I have to disagree with your statement that the web slinging in Spider-Man PS4 is like the one in TASM2, but with more and better animations, because Spider-Man PS4 is clearly momentum based while TASM2 isn‘t really. In TASM2, while there may be more momentum than in TASM1, it still suffers from the problem that you don‘t really become faster while web slinging, even If you swing at the right time. Additionally the movements are kinda canned. Whereas in Spider-Man PS4, you can really gain a lot of speed and put back many meters in one swing, if you swing at the right time and fully utilise the pendulum effect. But nice video, man!:) (Sorry for my bad english, i‘m Austrian:D)
But the momentum is a false momentum, not physics based or earned at all. Just look at 3:25. Spider-Man is falling straight down but ends up shooting forward somehow. Just looks fake and poorly animated.
You’d never notice that unless I go literally frame by frame, get the hell off your high horse, it doesn’t look bad at all, and acting like you’re a lead animator or some shit just makes u come off as ignorant and dumb just for the sake of attempting to nitpick something that’s basically not meant to be seen no matter what
It has nothing to do with a frame by frame analysis dumbass. Anyone with eyes can see it. It's obvious that this game has shit physics. Sad that a ps2 game still has it beat.
I wasn‘t talking about the transition between swings or between dive bomb and swing, but about the swinging in general. I mean that Spidey gains momentum from swing to swing if you do it right. But i agree with you on 3:25. It definitely looks awkward and doesn‘t make any sense. But as Lucas explains in this video it isn‘t really a poor animation, but more intentionally implemented, to prevent Spidey from hitting the ground or cars (which isn‘t possible in this game ). The problem is that this issue also appears when Spider-Man isn‘t close to the ground.
@TheMonsterTrio Honestly you‘d clearly notice it without going frame by frame. Just watch gameplay videos where Spidey jumps from the empire state building and immediately goes into a swing.
Can you stop web swinging mid way and just hang on one web like in Spider-Man 2? Since no fall damage is in the game, what happens when you stop swinging mid swing? Do you just fall to the streets and take no damage or does the game automatically swing for you? Are the swinging control on a loop? Do you just hold R1 and it goes for you or does the game implement holding R1 for as long as you want and Spider-Man won’t shoot out another web until you let go and hit R1 again. I think I’m losing my mind obsessing over this game.
I agree as well about spiderman ps4's swinging changes and I also find it the low variety of poses that spiderman does when he starts his swing unsatisfying.
another problem I've noticed is that regardless of if the Web Hits a building to the left or if the web connects to a building to the right Spider-Man keeps a perfectly straight trajectory
All that matters is what looks and feels better to play but i still like how you broke it down rather than fanboying like some of these youtubers out here when it comes to either spiderman game.
Another distinction is how SMPS4's webswinging guides you along a straight path, even if your web is 45 degrees sideways, or diagonal. Whereas in SM2 a diagonal webline will pull you towards it and your resulting swing arc is a lot more lateral. It's even put into play in SM2's Hard/Insane challenges when you have to pull off "Orbit" tricks.
I played it at SDCC and u are allowed to hit the ground...he just starts running and the game allows u to bounce back up hitting x if u choose to keep the momentum going
One of the best things I learned is that dive bombing into swings in this game gets you what the L2 trigger did in Spider-Man 2. L 2 accelerated your swing in Spidey 2. If you dive bomb into swings in this it'll take your swinging to another level! I just learned this the other day and it blew me away! I already thought the swinging was great. But when I learned and got good at this, it made the swinging even better! If you practice incorporating dive bombing into your swinging you get better at adding it to what you already do! And again, it makes the swinging experience a lot better and that's saying something! When you do this you can swing to the top of the tallest building with ease! For example.
Yes, you're right about these things.. In my opinion, another big problem with the new web-swinging is that you just fly towards where you push the left stick. So you can swing straight down the street, even if you just keep attach the weblines to the buildings to the right. It just seems too easy. I loved how challenging the SM2 swinging was. (This is not animation-related though:P)
I’ll love the more cinematic style, but one of the most satisfying things in Spider-Man 2 was swinging low enough to where you’d run on the ground before lifting off again. Hopefully this gets put in the game
I also don't like the fact that if you drop down from a high building and build up a lot of speed, the moment you start web swinging you slow down considerably and transition into the animation. There's no actual conservation of momentum, which makes it sometimes feel weird or "off".
Ebae321 I don’t think we’ve seen an updated version of that, but I want to say that it has been addressed, as it was brought to Insomniac’s attention earlier on.
Insomniac has mentioned a lot how they have created animations for when spidey hits certain barriers and he will maneuver around it without disrupting the flow of movement. But that feature unfortunately doesn’t seem implemented when you’re swinging and you’re about to come in contact with the ground. For example, when Spider-Man was about to hit that truck, instead of having a “safety barrier” to keep you a certain distance from the ground, insomniac should have implemented an animation allowing spidey to swing towards the truck, and if you’re to low to the ground instead of crashing into it Spider-Man automatically slides under the truck similar to the web tunnel feature. Just another way they could of added to the intensity of the cinematic flow of swinging insomniac was going for.
Ya know I really wouldn't care if I just found a bug to where spidey Is stuck web slinging in t pose form or just like turning into a bowling ball during mid flip
I think it’s cool what they’ve done with the web swinging you know, it’s a video game at the end of the day, I want to have fun, so personally I don’t mind the small animation tweaks that aren’t really possible in real life just so they can keep Spiderman moving. I like that they want you to keep your flow going, and hopefully that’s what makes this game fun. Great video as always brother
For me the reason why I loved spiderman 2's web swinging so much was because it was challenging. It wasn't something you could do efficiently right away. It took time to learn the timing of when to press the swing button and how to turn. It wasn't until almost half way through the game that I finally learned to swing fast. And that satisfaction of knowing I had mastered a skill was why I loved it. On the opposite end of swinging in spiderman games, I was really disappointed at TASM's web swinging when I realized all you had to do was hold one button. And to make it worse, they added a feature where you can look at a distant location, click a button, and spiderman would just float towards it while shooting occasional webs out. You didn't even need to hold down anything.
I’m glad someone pointed this out, it won’t hurt the game at all but I didn’t wanna be the one who seemed like a hater amidst everyone who loves the game
I wish he could kinda run on the ground for a bit if he was swinging too low and that If he were to face that truck problem, it would kinda play an organic dodging animation over it so Spider-Man doesn’t kinda like hit it awkwardly and... die
Well if you let go of the swing button before going over the truck you hit the ground ... you just don't take fall damage, the player just hit the web swing button again.
Its Ur Boi true but with some advanced control over what you are doing, you can pull it off and make it feel incredible. The main problem is swinging directly next to a building, literally skinning it. But if you pull away a little, right after you cast a web, it works very well
the game came out years ago, so yeah, obviously it is gonna feel clunky. But i feel like the point of the video was to point out that SM2's web swinging was more realistic, from the physics standpoint. but I really like the look of SMPS4, it honestly looked amazing from what i've seen so far.
Or maybe he did not hit the truck because he adjusted the pendulum in which he would swing to have him already be at the point of equilibrium that way he would not go any lower
Insomniacs plan was to keep the flow and momentum going when traversing NYC. I think this was the only way to keep spidey moving forward - keeping him apart from the ground. I personal oh like it even though it can look odd at times.
How are you judging a game when its not even out yet. You dont know if they tweak/change or even have a option for realistic swinging the game comes out in a month that is a lot of time polish out the edges for a day 1 update
Dude more, I love you. I always thought of breaking the swinging animation down physically. If you are already into it can you make it a little more detailed? This would be a pioneer video! Like the argument with the truck you made at the end. It's exactly what I was thinking!
I love that everyone bitches about the web swinging physics, yet you're all happy when Spider-man defies gravity to juggle people in the air, while in combat. So what do you want, realism or a good comic book inspired game?
Very glad you pointed out the camera in this game. While web-swinging may be well and good, the camera movement and position makes it look so BORING. It’s literally just in 1 place the entire time except for a couple instances. In Spider-Man 2, Ultimate Spider-Man, & Web of Shadows, every time Spidey tilts his body to the right, the camera tilts to the right... to the left, same thing. The camera veers and follows right behind Spidey at all times and the result is 10x more immersive since we feel we’re right there with him. Similarly the camera would emphatically zoom in and out depending on speed/momentum, and outright turn in 90 degree angles when wall running sideways. Spider-Man PS4 does little of these things, and it’s very rare when it does, the effect is also downplayed. Which to me, leads to very static looking swinging. In regards to the swinging & traversal itself, it very obviously holds your hand, hardly letting you make a mistake. It looks automated. There’s even a shot where Spider-Man doesn’t have an attach point, so the game finds one like 2 blocks away, and Spider-Man literally flies to the attach point, without losing altitude, to begin swinging. Sorry but I cannot get behind that.
I love when in Amazing Spider-Man you'd web swing and Spider-Man would become invisible because the camera was too close. I think by making the camera far back like that, they wanted to avoid that problem while at the same time making the swinging feel less like you're there. Even though Amazing Spider-Man 1 your webs could attach to the sky, it was a much more visceral Spider-man experience because of the tilted and wild camera that conveyed what it's like to be Spider-Man.
The question is: are any of us gonna care about any of this at the end of the day? Like yeah, it’s important to make sure the physics seem real enough to feel it, but this is REALLY reaching
I appreciate this video. I need some reasons to keep my excitement for this game in check and it is good to have some decent and honest criticisms of the game to remember this is not going to be the cure for cancer and the end of all wars.
Seems that many are confusing what the game looks like with how it plays. This shouldn't detract from the quality of the game but to serve as a distinction between the what has been prioritized. It's not to say that one is better than the other, but that both games have their strengths. Having actually played the game, it plays great but it is something that you notice subconsciously. Whether or not this will be addressed in the final build, has yet to be seen.

Nam12399 Yeah, that's what I meant but I wasn't sure how to explain it.
Nam12399 still blows but I'll make due
Nam12399 will Spider-Man be able to touch the ground if we detach from the web? Idk if you know that info but I’d love to know.

Spider-Man1962 Yes because pressing a button takes skill.
You can touch the ground while swinging,he runs with the swing when you do.its in one of the videos of gameplay

chuhrros Tbh o think it's stupid that people are saying that games like this and RDR2 are going to get GOTY even though they are not out yet
Ppl talking about it being Goty worthy without even playing it is nostalgia + blind hype.
@@KingKien95 the exact same thing can be said about red dead redemption 2, unless you've played it before?
am i the only one that doesn't really like spiderman 2's web swinging and just find it really hard to watch? every time he swings, he just slows down so quickly, like pushing paper in the wind, and i feel like the camera is just too far away, and some of the swinging feels incredibly ridged, like there's barely any turning, you just gotta hit buildings and hope for the best
either way, i see why people like the web swinging, but personally i prefer cinematic feeling, so i'm going with Spiderman ps4
this Bubbly Goodness I agree in all points
And that's exactly what would happen in real life. Spider-Man's 2 physics are just too realistic for you to handle.
Zodiac Boy I prefer a cinematic and fluid swining over a super realistic swining.
Zodiac Boy sometimes people want to have a good time rather than a realistic one
Zodiac Boy, that's fair enough, i totally understand if people want that, but i think the whole slowing down every time he swings is kinda unrealistic, but sure.
i'm really excited for this game but lets face it, this is training wheels web swinging. it's like bowling with the sides up.
Greyfoxdbz18 you can touch the ground when you swing
Its KC you can't, the game levitates you above ground
I seen gameplay of him doing so,so don't tell me you can't because you obvious don't know what you talking about.i have no reason to lie,so wait until the game come out and you'll see for yourself.
Its KC link
@@firstlast6226 I'm a time traveler, indeed he is right
The nitpicking is at an all time high. It might be an unfortunate imperfection but it still looks beautiful. You can hardly notice until you go frame by frame.
Not true, I noticed it first time I saw the swinging sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't. You don't have to go frame by frame
That one Asian guy
There are few and i mean few "issues" that ive seen from gameplay and most of it stemmed from the E3 gameplay.
And the audacity it takes to say it’s a piss poor attempt is the most ignorant statement anyone could make about this game.
cinematic>>>>>>>>> realistic web swinging, every single day of the week
A mix of both
agree, but if i had to choose
Realist web swinging is way better
Neh
martin53mattsson so you're saying
Boring, not challenging webswinging >>>>>>>>>>> exciting, fun and you actually have to pay semi attention and think of your moves, gaining speed and momentum as a reward for your skill?
Lol ok
I wish they would've just let the real time physics go and added certain animations for running on the ground or Spidey automatically lifting his legs to avoid cars.
Lmao I posted this on Spider-Man ps4 subreddit and got downvoted. The reddit community is toxic as hell, any form of criticism is not allowed.
That one Asian guy Seems to be the case.
I mean it’s not that big of a deal. With all the other things you can do beside webswinging it’s not like it makes the game worse
so they are not allowed to criticize your criticism ?
rupin kanet who said that? Their only valid arugument is that its not game breaking which is weak.
Mert Ronael it just isn’t that simple to apply that to a game.
Teben true
I appreciate that all of you guys talking about animation and graphics care enough to discuss it.
Yoxiv youre right but this is abt web swinging.
Best comment here.
+Durotimi Mafe
Yea, that's what I was talking about.
Does this even matter ? Spider-man PS4 has great animations and its physics are amazing also, Thats all you need to know.
Mr. Chicken no not exactly
Well Web swinging is one of the main thing that makes a good spiderman game
To some not all.
Not at all bro. You cant please everyone im afraid.
It really does of course it’s not gonna be 100% real lol it’s a comic book hero game
Been waiting for another animation vid. Keep it up!
Man!! I loves these videos!! So insightful and informative!! Great video Lucas!!
Thank god you mentioned this. All the fanboys are calling people haters for pointing this issue out. Insomniac lied about the momentum and physics
Koser Ahmed "you must have an Xbox" waiting for a fanboy to come at you with that lol
@@lepenetr8tor83 😂😂😂
I'm not an animator but I like these vids!
Exactly!
I just want to say that you do such a great job with these videos, and you deserve the rapid growth you've received thus far. Keep it up!
Great video! Excellent breakdown and demo of the animation mechanics!
Dude, the fact that you control the web swing animations and there’s an upgrade system for them too is insane and never been done.
Lmao the video was great and then I hear your end theme, subbed
I’d have to say this channel is highly underrated.
Good video man love your work oh my GOODNESS
Which one is closest to Ultimate Spider-Man swinging? Cause that one definitely was my favorite.
I agree as well about spiderman ps4's swinging changes and I also find it the low variety of poses that spiderman does when he starts his swing unsatisfying.
You know that they going to have a camera setting for swinging right?
How are TASM2 and Spider-Man PS4's physics the same? TASM2 has no forward momentum at all.
OOOOHH MY GOOOODNESS!
Amazing video 😉
Nice vid man
Great video as always 😉😉
another problem I've noticed is that regardless of if the Web Hits a building to the left or if the web connects to a building to the right Spider-Man keeps a perfectly straight trajectory
Great video Lucas
Hey Lucas do I need to know how to draw to become an animator?
This is very critical, but I like it... Great vid
The reason there is a barrier is because r2 is sprint and swing so if they change sprint to L3 it wouldn’t do that plz reply
All that matters is what looks and feels better to play but i still like how you broke it down rather than fanboying like some of these youtubers out here when it comes to either spiderman game.
You can swing on the ground, when you do he runs with the swing.its in one of the gameplay videos
Spectacular video!
Is there a way to stop spiderman from throwing his arms out before swinging cause it really annoying
Which web swinging do you personally like better Amazing Animation . A more physics grounded swinging, or a “cinematic” feel ?
I played it at SDCC and u are allowed to hit the ground...he just starts running and the game allows u to bounce back up hitting x if u choose to keep the momentum going
I don’t mind the transitions in the web swinging because it kind of helps with traversing. Letting you web swing without any interruptions.
Great video, Lucas!
I feel it may be possible to skid across the ground like the trailers and maybe even do parkour off of cars and vehicles
Great video
I really don’t care about such small details but it was great to see someone breaking it down
Be happy you're getting this game, it can't get any better
One of the best things I learned is that dive bombing into swings in
this game gets you what the L2 trigger did in Spider-Man 2. L 2 accelerated
your swing in Spidey 2. If you dive bomb into swings in this it'll take
your swinging to another level! I just learned this the other day and
it blew me away! I already thought the swinging was great. But when I
learned and got good at this, it made the swinging even better! If you
practice incorporating dive bombing into your swinging you get better
at adding it to what you already do! And again, it makes the swinging
experience a lot better and that's saying something! When you do this
you can swing to the top of the tallest building with ease!
Um I heard that the camera can be changed while swinging?
I’ll love the more cinematic style, but one of the most satisfying things in Spider-Man 2 was swinging low enough to where you’d run on the ground before lifting off again. Hopefully this gets put in the game
I also don't like the fact that if you drop down from a high building and build up a lot of speed, the moment you start web swinging you slow down considerably and transition into the animation. There's no actual conservation of momentum, which makes it sometimes feel weird or "off".
Have you talked about the animation of spidey zipping trough the tunnel or other obstacle because i remembered that looking a little janky
Ebae321
I don’t think we’ve seen an updated version of that, but I want to say that it has been addressed, as it was brought to Insomniac’s attention earlier on.
cn0591 do you think they fixed the swinging speed and momentum from falling off a tall building like the Empire State compared to a shorter building?
They've fixed that, I've seen it
AmazingAnimation good
wdf why so many dislikes? great video man
Salty fanboys not realising he isn't even criticising the game
Cause I’m debating which one to get...?
Great vid bro , I was thinking it looked a little ify
I get what u mean about the truck but Spiderman could pull himself up on his web to avoid it so it kinda makes sense
Think they said the camera angle can be changed
that would be awesome if it's possible
this Bubbly Goodness yeh I checked and it can be changed
Prryor, this is great news, i wouldn't mind if i could bring the camera a bit closer to spiderman, awesome!
this Bubbly Goodness yes similar to tasm?
nah not that close, that's way to close, maybe like between tasm 2 and SMPS4 sort of close
Ya know I really wouldn't care if I just found a bug to where spidey Is stuck web slinging in t pose form or just like turning into a bowling ball during mid flip
i loved the web swinging in Spider-Man Web Of Shadows the most!
See that Infinity War pre order trailer made me think you can land on cars and jump off in a web swing the same as wall runs
Yeah it looks weird but you can only see it when you slow down and do a frame by frame analysis so It doesn't bother me too much.
I think that just relying on physics like SM2 did makes the gameplay really rough and messy since you just smack into stuff left and right.
I'm super okay with this. It looks to be all the fun and satisfaction of web swinging with none of the frustrations.
I’m glad someone pointed this out, it won’t hurt the game at all but I didn’t wanna be the one who seemed like a hater amidst everyone who loves the game
Great work.
They need anew hybrid between genuine physics and making it look cinematic.
I’d like the web slinging animation to actually take place right *as* the web animation gains tension
Sm2 has pretty clunky web swinging controls in my opinion.
Its Ur Boi yea
Its Ur Boi true but with some advanced control over what you are doing, you can pull it off and make it feel incredible. The main problem is swinging directly next to a building, literally skinning it. But if you pull away a little, right after you cast a web, it works very well
the game came out years ago, so yeah, obviously it is gonna feel clunky. But i feel like the point of the video was to point out that SM2's web swinging was more realistic, from the physics standpoint. but I really like the look of SMPS4, it honestly looked amazing from what i've seen so far.
Landofmagic 97 agreed, it’ll be fantastic I believe
Its Ur Boi it's only clunky because you're not good at webslinging
Or maybe he did not hit the truck because he adjusted the pendulum in which he would swing to have him already be at the point of equilibrium that way he would not go any lower
Insomniacs plan was to keep the flow and momentum going when traversing NYC. I think this was the only way to keep spidey moving forward - keeping him apart from the ground. I personal oh like it even though it can look odd at times.
Web of shadows had nice swinging, my favorite swinging mechanic untill now.
Hey man i love this channel. . .would you be interested in covering some fighting game animations? Injustice 2 would probably make you sick haha
Very accurate breakdown
Gonna be honest I never really noticed anything until you pointed it out.
👏🏾 well done finally some truth and honesty.
Wow nice catch man. Even tho the web-slinging is a bit off I'll still buy this game.
The question is: are any of us gonna care about any of this at the end of the day? Like yeah, it’s important to make sure the physics seem real enough to feel it, but this is REALLY reaching
The only reason why anybody is talking criticising it, and the only reason you are salty is because people already csre lmao
I appreciate this video. I need some reasons to keep my excitement for this game in check and it is good to have some decent and honest criticisms of the game to remember this is not going to be the cure for cancer and the end of all wars.
Really love your videos, you deserve way more subscribers. But I would like to see something else rather than spiderman again
it’s amazing. period.
