Yeah, I don't mind any of the re-imaginations, although I had the impression that Harley was supposed to be Hugo Strange at some point. Also was there any reason why she wore that costume, except that the audience expected her to wear one? The stories where really meh, they neither did enough new stuff with the material, nor made the old stuff interesting enough. It's like they got stuck half way while writing: It was neither a show with a focus on Batman, nor a show with a focus on other characters and how Batman influenced their lives. So it just felt like Batman was relegated to the B-Plot for no reason in many episodes. Also whoever came up with the plot point "Two cops free a serial arsonists in the middle of Gotham and give him his flame thrower to bait Batman into a trap." needs to be fired.
Feel like people are being too critical. It was a good start for a new animated series. The writing was decent enough for me to look forward to a season 2
Wrong. They don’t race swap or gender bend characters because “people like to see themselves”. That’s the excuse they like to use. The real reason why they do this so they can get a higher ESG score.
I hate race swapping and gender swapping. These traits are not to be treated as cosmetic and trival. I see it happen so often, that its a major turn off. Just CREATE NEW CHARACTERS. Gender and race have significant historical baggage and would greatly change the backstory of any character. Its fun to explore but needs to be done thoughtfully and with purpose. Not just representation or acting like such a swap would lead to no critical character changes.
I thought it was great. The changes were fine. The core of the characters weren't twisted. The art style was perfect. The time period and backgrounds fit well with Batman. The adult writing was amazing. Voice action was on point. Im glad they brought back Harley. Its not the blonde pretty girl who is a bimbo. She was actually scary and her own villain. My only complaint was it was 10 episodes. Keep making videos. Good work!
Why race-swap the Gordons? Jim and Barbara have always been Caucasian, so going out of their way to brownwash them doesn't seem that great; for some reason, it's okay (if not 'beneficial' for "Diversity" reasons) to brownwash Caucasian characters, but horribly racist to whitewash characters. Why can't we just accept that colour-washing *anyone* is inherently racist, and stop doing it? Barbara also being much older than normal, and being a DA instead of a librarian, are also very strange decisions for such a long-lived character; she's never been a defense attorney before, not once, and she's also never been Bruce's age either. Additionally, why bring back Harley fucking Quinn YET AGAIN? So sick of this stupid goddamn character; sure, she became popular after Batman: TAS, but does she really need to be in practically EVERYTHING since? Give her a rest, for once, DC! Oh, and I just realised they gender-swapped the Penguin. WHY. So bizarre and stupid; Penguin's always been a short, fat guy with a monocle, and he should have stayed that way; gender-swapping characters, just like race-swapping, is lazy and nonsensical in my mind. Just NO. If this show does the same thing as The Batman by making Barbara a Bat before Dick Grayson (who, from what I can tell, is still quite young)...then this show will have no appeal for me. I just can't stand Batgirl (or Batwoman) as a character, as she's completely redundant and extraneous compared to the classic Dynamic Duo pairing of Batman & Robin; when it comes to fighting and crime-busting, that's always been a man's role, what with fit and healthy guys far outstripping girls in physical strength and stamina (due to natural sexual dimorphism). Batgirl's never had a place here, in my book; her best role is as Oracle, supporting the Duo with info, rather than somehow beating up thugs physically stronger than her. Additionally, being Oracle gives her a unique way to support her team, a method no-one else can really mimic - none of the four Robins have her tech smarts or abilities. Oracle is far more iconic and fitting than Batgirl/Batwoman.
Gordon was black in the 2022 movie too, so it's not a first. It's possible they were inspired by it like how BTAS's Penguin was inspired by the 1992 movie. I don't mind Batgirl. Even though he's my favourite, Batman is already kinda unrealistic. His batarangs ALWAYS hit their targets and knock away the enemies' guns. He uses a grappling hook to traverse the city like Spiderman. He jumps from building to building, bouncing from flag poles and such. Batman in the real world wouldn't last a week. One slip of the foot, one missed batarang, one loose brick. Any of these and he's dead. So if the whole premise is unrealistic, why not have a girl fighting crime too? Yeah she's not as strong as Batman but again his feats are already wholly unrealistic, so having a girl involved is no big deal for me. I haven't watched the Harley Quinn episode yet but it seems they reworked her character a lot. Yeah I have Harley fatigue too but in this case it I'm looking forward to her episode even though I haven't been enjoying the show very much.
holy fuck that really got you huh. I get ur point on the race swap but i dont feel like it affects these characters much unlike the gender swap of penguin. The swapping just feels lazy like they wanted to introduce new characters but didnt have the balls so they just drastically changed already existing ones. Mainn gripe though is they madde BATMAN a side character in a show about BATMAN.
@@jimmycapone3974 That's a good point about just adding new characters instead of reworking old ones. But on the other hand, some core villains just HAVE to be in the show, otherwise people will complain. So instead of putting the same old Harley Quinn in the show for the 100th time, it's nice that they made her different.
@@awsomebot1 So compounding an error makes it BETTER? And it's not a "race swap". It's a "race replace". As you point out, once it starts, they NEVER revert to the source material.
I actually really liked the change in Harley. I felt it elevated the character. Changing the penguin, on the other hand, seemed like it was done purely for shock value and nothing else. Had they maybe made one of her sons Oswald so that he could eventually take on the mantel that would be interesting. But as it stands it was a change that added nothing to the character and made me feel it was only done to increase the number of female villains for diversity's sake.
I'm old enough to have seen when Harley was first debuted on the Animated Series. At first she was just a goofy sidekick but the writers really pulled some magic with Harley. People forget how mature the Animated Series was back then even though it was on the WB Kids Lineup. Harley and Joker were an example of a toxic relationship shown to kids and teens. Joker would constantly treat Harley bad, and Harley would forgive him like a loyal abused dog. Remember the time Harley "killed" Batman as a gift to Joker? Joker almost beat her to death and showed how much more Batman meant to Joker than Harley. There was a animated storyline I remember when Harley tried to quit Joker and have a normal life. Man that was so freaking sad and believable when things didn't work out, and everyone from cops to Batman wanted her to succeed but she ended up relapsing back to crime. Harley has always been a tragic character you root for on some level. Her evolution should be on that path. A new path that is better than her previous life as a boring psychologist, but not the chaos of a life of criminals. A new path just for Harley.
@@SSingh-nr8qz I think you're right and I think they are sort of doing that with this character. She lost everything because of her psychological experiments. My hope is that they will have her team up with the joker who seems to be doing his own experiments.
@@Doc-Holliday1851 The thing about Harley originally was she lost everything due to the Joker. I go back to the whole toxic relationship origins that people can relate to. How many people have you see have their lives ruined by falling in love with the wrong person? I know successful women that have Master degrees and running their own businesses running with gang members. I know of female prison guards throwing away their careers helping inmates. How many wives threw away a good marriage because "they were bored"? Its very common. Harley's origin story was just that. An uptight, by the book, up and coming criminal psychologist that had everything going for her, expect it was predictable and not exciting. It was very relatable. We saw it in Breaking Bad where Walter White gave up his normal life to be a kingpin. I don't really like seeing Harley be corrupt right off the bat. The relationship between Harley and Joker is like a bad addiction. Joker is her drug. That's what makes her story tragic. You want her to away from her "drug", but you know deep down, she will never feel that alive in a normal life as she does in that toxic chaos life she leads. This rings true because many men and women experience that when they get away from one toxic relationship, only to relapse back to another.
The Penguin foiled by her sons was interesting, and would have worked with another character. Perhaps if the writers felt confident enough to CREATE some, instead of trashing the existing ones.

Nah, Bruce disrespecting Alfred is not cool at all, and really wish they’d quit with Harley
Firebug and firefly are different villains
Indeed, one flies and the other doesn’t
