I met Ella and her sister after a concert in Bristol in the 70's . She was absolutely lovely. I was only 17 but the memory remains clear as if it were yesterday.
I thank you.Comparing Ella and Billie to each other is like: day and night. it's not working. In addition, Billie had a small voice compared to Ella - this is not to be denied: neither voluminous, dynamic nor a wide range by far as Ella. With Billie, it was always her own specific and same expression: sad, depressing, dismal or bit ironic till sarcastic! In my opinion in the long run somewhat boring. I have from Ella as well as from Billie to 90% all recordings. I know, that Billie has many excellent recordings, but - musically much more versatile was Ella. If Ella sings, that is pure joy and beauty.
No matter how much good jazz singers have come after Ella and will still be coming: Ella will always be incomparable. As said, Duke Ellington: Ella is behind any category. She is a class for itself.
Her voice was impeccably beautiful 😍 I fell in love the first time I heard her sing. I wish I could have seen her live 😢. If I knew how angels sounded it would be Ella's voice.
first time i heard this was 1974 i lived in a rented room in an apt in montreal ,the lady owner(dear sara) had this record, i fell in love with the voice.such grace
Beautiful piece by the Queen of jazz singing. I love the last part where Ella talks about the realities of summer. Did anyone else notice the photo of Duke Ellington listening to Ella with an expression of pleasure? Great video. Thanks for posting it.
Took me back to the time when America was a distant dream and great. I saw this America through the eyes of a 8 mm Kodak movie camera my late dad brought way back in 1948, Sounds more like different and very ancient times. Thank God for technology that made this viewing possible.
The one above on the playlist is the original version and my favourite version of this song ever made. I think this one is remastered. If that song doesn't stir you, something is wrong with you! Also 'Porgy and Bess' is everything!
Start looking for Ella Fitzgerald's songs after watching her scat duo with Mel, realise all the sweet jazz my grandpa used to play when I was a kid that I have no idea the names of were all her greatest hits.
It's too bad Gershwin died too young and never got to hear this. For how big jazz was to him and influenced his music, something tells me he would have adored this rendition, especially with Ella lending her unmatched voice to it.
What a dazzling elocutionist, that Ella! She motivates me to develop my communication skills so that I can speak and sing more articulately and persuasively. Cheers to the distinguished toastmistress, EF!!!
It's funny how I've been wishing to be born in the 60's, then in the 50's, then in the 40's, and up to the 30's. I think I'll just stay in this weird era that is the XXI century. If I can't go back in the late 50's, I can at least try to bring that kind of music back. I met Ravi Coltrane (John Coltrane's son), and as I'm quite young, he told me that Jazz isn't only music from the past, it's also nowadays music, and tomorrow's. Jazz isn't dead, it's just more hard to find thus more enjoyable.
As long as young people such as yourself listens and remember howgood music sounds your generation is not lost, just some. True music reach beyond languish barriers
I'm 15 ,She was the queen...the big queen of jazz! i think that my generation is lost in bad music...(i'm italian i don't speak very well english :( ) Love you Ella !
Love Ella true, timeless, classy artist......one of my all time fave songs...would of loved to have seen her back in the day NYC Mr Kelly's iconic..... I wasn't born till 69 ....
Bravo Marco, hai una sensibilità notevole. Superbo l'album fotografico d'accompagnamento. Una ricerca degna di nota. Grazie per il prezioso contributo.
I had to study this song very well for my singing class, but when I listen to such a voice, I just can't help thinking "what the hell do I think I'm doing?". This is just perfect.
Am I the only one who thinks Ella had a really cute speaking voice? Like her being one of the greatest voices/the greatest voice ever is a given but sometimes when she just talks it sounds so girly and babyish but not high and squeaky enough to be annoying, like at the very end when she pips "Thank you!" It just makes me wish I was friends with her lol

Haha nice point
And yes, you're right ))
if you have to vote for the best voice of the 20 centurie, there is only one,Ella
Ella doesn't just make you hear a song, she makes you feel it.
Excellent observation.
She certainly does
Absolutely remarkable ❤️🔥 👏
in my opinion the finest female singer of all time,
Yes !!!
I dunno, I think Billie Holiday could give her a run for her money!
sorry , I cannot understand the meaning of your words....( english isn't my mother language - but german...)
they just mean that billie holiday could also possibly be the runner up to ella, or even better. :)
I thank you.Comparing Ella and Billie to each other is like: day and night. it's not working. My daughter is named Ella because of this great women.
Great music and great photos. Thanks very much .
My Dad would be 92 this year and after a couple of drinks Ella would be played. Happy memories.
I was born in 2006, but listening to this takes me back back to the 1960s with memories I never had.
No matter how much good jazz singers have come after Ella and will still be coming: Ella will always be incomparable. As said, Duke Ellington: Ella is behind any category. She is a class for itself.
Sensational
Saw her on my first date with my soon to be wife. It was at Radio City Music Hall in 1978. Ella was one heck of a talent.
Marvelous voice + musicality + sence of humor + charm = Queen Ella
nobody does it like ELLA!!! MY FAVORITE JAZZ ARTIST OF ALL TIME!
+Myra Deshields Ferrell

Her voice was impeccably beautiful 😍 I fell in love the first time I heard her sing. I wish I could have seen her live 😢. If I knew how angels sounded it would be Ella's voice.
Любимая певица моего отца который обожал джазовые композиции Эллы Фицджеральд❤❤❤
This is wholly the best version of Summertime.
first time i heard this was 1974 i lived in a rented room in an apt in montreal ,the lady owner(dear sara) had this record, i fell in love with the voice.such grace

Hello Karen

I love her voice! she's one of the best singers of all the time!
Ella is the queen of jazz greatest female singer ever
I had a stepmother, and she used to sing like Ms. Ella.
She even looked exactly like Ms. Ella.
I love ❤️ them both.
God rest their souls 🙏🙏😇😇
Cold morning with a little thin layer of ice on the ground..listening to her song calm me down.
Beautiful piece by the Queen of jazz singing. I love the last part where Ella talks about the realities of summer. Did anyone else notice the photo of Duke Ellington listening to Ella with an expression of pleasure? Great video. Thanks for posting it.
She sings and I fall in love with life again...Just Lady Ella.
Coffee & cream - & I'm not referring to the colour of her skin. This lady has a magical quality that transcends time.
No one will ever beat this kind of talent. Ella has that true affection and emotion in her voice that SO many lack in modern music.
Took me back to the time when America was a distant dream and great. I saw this America through the eyes of a 8 mm Kodak movie camera my late dad brought way back in 1948, Sounds more like different and very ancient times. Thank God for technology that made this viewing possible.
Ella and Etta are without doubt the 2 of the best women in music
Louis and Ella are just marvellous. I saw them first time in Lucerne Switzerland and it must have been around 1955.
The one above on the playlist is the original version and my favourite version of this song ever made. I think this one is remastered.
If that song doesn't stir you, something is wrong with you! Also 'Porgy and Bess' is everything!
Underrated voice??? Ella Fitzgerald is/was underrated??? Ella's voice is extremely well known and appreciated.
...Don't see why songwriters get all the credit...when it's the singer who breathes 'life' into the song! Happy Birthday Ella!
Start looking for Ella Fitzgerald's songs after watching her scat duo with Mel, realise all the sweet jazz my grandpa used to play when I was a kid that I have no idea the names of were all her greatest hits.
In my opinion, the greatest female singer of all time...
I agree
It's too bad Gershwin died too young and never got to hear this. For how big jazz was to him and influenced his music, something tells me he would have adored this rendition, especially with Ella lending her unmatched voice to it.
What a dazzling elocutionist, that Ella! She motivates me to develop my communication skills so that I can speak and sing more articulately and persuasively. Cheers to the distinguished toastmistress, EF!!!

Absolument authentique. La meilleure interprétation.
Ella est éternelle.
It's funny how I've been wishing to be born in the 60's, then in the 50's, then in the 40's, and up to the 30's.

A fabulous lament from the jazz era, and Ella's interpretations have always been definitive for me. :-)

I had to study this song very well for my singing class, but when I listen to such a voice, I just can't help thinking "what the hell do I think I'm doing?". This is just perfect.
even when she's not singing her voice is beautiful
Voice meets style; cosmic explosion. Nobody better.
Such a great singer! unique... nowadays at least in my country, younger singers use to have the same style, must learn something of this woman
Tu eres la Reina Ellaaaaa!!!!
Elegancia, carisma, power, pasión, perfección.
Lagrimones me generas.
I really love Ella's music, too, and this is one of her best songs, as well!
Am I the only one who thinks Ella had a really cute speaking voice? Like her being one of the greatest voices/the greatest voice ever is a given but sometimes when she just talks it sounds so girly and babyish but not high and squeaky enough to be annoying, like at the very end when she pips "Thank you!"
O my god.. her voice brought me to tears.. perfection is just an ideal next to her voice..
Awesome pictures!
