  • When is the best time to scarify a lawn - There are two times of the year that are ideal to be
    scarifying a lawn
This question has come up a lot on my videos to people new to lawn care. Lawn scarification is used to remove moss and thatch from a lawn and is essential lawn maintenance.
Certain months During the Summer and winter - you should NOT scarify
There are best times to scarify - Spring and Autumn. Though these will also depend on the conditions local to you. In past years if the weather allows I have sacrificed in February without any problems. This year was to wet.
Regardless of where you are in the UK or Ireland, you shouldn't scarify in June or July
    as it is to dry.
Autumn scarification can start as early as mid to late August as it is usually damper around then and carry on through to October. September is the perfect month to scarify, due to it being a damper month and the soil is still warm from the summer.
In some parts of the UK lawn care companies can carry on until November, though this will depend on local weather conditions. No scarification should be carried out in December or January as there is no recovery during these months.
Watch until the end to see before and after.

Fair play to you Robbie you told everyone that the after pics weren't from this year because of the dry weather. Would have liked to have seen them though and then the ones from previous years. Just as a warning to people about how it can turn out despite years of experience. I'm a gardener myself in the North West and know that common sense is the most important thing needed to produce a good looking lawn and most problems caused by changing weather and seasonal differences can be overcome with a bit of knowledge and alot of common sense

To get a good lawn it needs work!
Moss killer, fork, scarify over seed , dress..... for me this rime of year. Oh and Nematodes for the leather jackets...
I’ll pop them done about now and re do it in 6 weeks just so I get the time right... leather jacks can destroy a lawn!
Spring then feed and cut. I pick my weeds out with a screw driver as the grass is thick, there not a problem because the
    Thickness....
Also this year I’ve left the mower blade slightly higher which gives that thick lush look, but, I’ll cut it lower just before I scarify.
Liked you’re idea about mossing after the scarify... but do you just spread the spores when it’s not dead?
Some great tips... keep posting em!

I have a path running down the middle of my lawn leading down to the end of the garden. I want to remove it and make the whole garden lawn, rather than segmented into sections. How do I remove the path and then make it level with the rest of the lawn? I think the soil beneath the path will be heavily compacted so I assume I need to do something there.
My question is: to get everything level once the path is removed, should I "reset" the rest of the lawn? What would your recommendation be?

When should I moss kill (the length of our garden has larger high neighbour's trees so gets mossy) Do I top dress? Also... silly q... but where can I get those big cubic bags u drag around? I need them to take to the recycling as the thatch will overwhelm our compost bins.
Our lawn is rectangular with lots of central beds and borders. Was thinking of buying a greenworks dethatcher. Or is there another brand that you suggest? Am I better renting for the size of the lawn?

Premier Lawns I have put a few liquid apps down. It’s one that you send off and get a full report on, I’m hopeful, because I’m missing something but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’m hoping it’s just nitrogen, but I don’t want to put anymore down in case it isn’t. Where the dogs pee and I water it down, the grass is a nice dark green and grows faster.... my iron apps aren’t taking at all..... the joys of wanting the perfect lawn...
