- All is not well at camp Papaya! Can we rectify this situation with an engine flush?

Bummer...You cant catch a break this year! Hope it all changes for you man!!
I'm sorry you had this happen, but you really did make lemonade from lemons by making this video. You handle things with humor and grace and turn everything into learning experiences for everyone. Thank you very much!
Sorry to hear that Bryn, hope we can encourage you to renew the chain and guides and show us all how to do it properly!
Already bought the parts 👍
The noise your hearing is this the sprung lower gide mine did the same mesured fine but the noise was there so I did them as I cant stand strange noises
@@simonharvey6115 yeah it sounds like that, which could be worn, throwing the crank to cam timing
@@BWSTT I did my chains with the engine in the car I'd never done them before and it's not to bad the chains them selves only take an hour. I'd send you pick of my guides but it won't let me add a picture
@@simonharvey6115 yeah the chains is the easy bit ironically!
Ahh Bryn, that sucks, but at least you have the ability to swap the chain set out. Does this mean a "definitive guide to chains" video coming soon?
Maybe 👀
I Always use liquid moly engine flush also I add cera tec every few changes in with oil it sticks too all metal inside fills in scores and scratches. Cera makes engine run smoother
Was watching this really hoping for a good outcome for you! Rotten luck your having mate, hope it turns around 👍. Pity it doesn’t seem the seller has been honest..
Things can only get better!
Very nice video. And really helpful. If I ever do an engine flush. I always drain it like you did and change the filter. I alway feel you have added additives to thin the oil and flush etc. But I think it won't all come out. So I do another 20 mins with cheapish oil and new filter. Then drain again and new filer and good oil
Yeah i want to do another test on a high mileage 225, remove the rocker cover and sump before the flush, then assess it after, and see how well it cleans with a few passes
@BWSTT there is also 2 types of fish stuff either like the Wynns in a can of bottle where you add it to your oil. Or there is another type where you drain all the oil the refill with flushing oil. And the run 20 mins etc etc
@@BWSTTBG Epr will be the strongest flush on the market, and in most cases when done with a few oil / filter changes will increase Compression 👌
BG EPR for a clean engine mate, it's the best you can use
Not sure if you can get it in the UK but there is a product called BG EPR. I have used it in the states and seen others use it with some results…… thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing, i will see if its available here
I normally use 2 of them flushes
You seem to know about these. You have talked about cold air intakes. I have 1.8t quattro 225 and i habe been thinking about cold air intake. if i install one will it be only harm as stand alone upgrade?
I'm not familiar with the -3,-4 & -7 , -7 tolerance numbers you are referring to. What are those and how do they indicate a end of life engine?
As the chains stretch, the cam adjusters can take up that slack to bring the timing back to where it should be. The range if their adjustment is from -8 to +8 and there is 2 of them. A healthy engine will have both readings the same as each other, with in a deviance of 2. So, -3-4 is good, -1-4 is bad, -8-8 is bad -6-7 is nearly done
Thanks! That makes sense.
Keep up the great work.
put some kerosene in with the oil and idle it for a decent while and drop the oil again this helps clean the engine loads .. use flushing oil too that is better
Aw man not the best result but at least its in tolerance and cheaper than buying the kit as you say. With the remap etc surely its not a complete loss?
Not a chance im keeping that engine in lol
@@BWSTT You could fix the old one whilst using this one to get you an MOT at least?
I know id prefer to buy a car with original engine.
Not that I'm sour from the first TT lol
@@MotorMonkeyz no point in moting it til its properly usable, but yes the original is getting sorted and refitted 👍
What does that mean? The engine chain is stretched? I changed my drive chain that works my cam shaft on my 225 only becuz its done 180k so made sense at the time
The chain on a 1.8 just links the 2 cams, the belt connects the exhaust cam to the crank. On the 3.2 there are 2 chains, an upper and a lower, that time the crank to the cams. The adjusters on the cams can only take up a certain amount of slack, this engine is at the end of that tolerance
Does it mean that for us ordinary folk that having the chains done would rectify this?
Yep, its what i now need to do
@@BWSTT thanks mate
Thanks for the video bro. Even though this doesn’t apply to me (yet?) on 150K on a 1.8T BUT!!! Very informative and educational!! Keep rokin the vids.
Hey sorry to write this in here can’t find a way to message you. Would you be able to give me some technical info. Need the torque settings for the three Torx bolts that hold the turbo to manifold. Again sorry for this message here.
You asked the same on the TT repairs page on facebook and have been given the answer before you posted this comment 🤔
@@BWSTT didn’t realise it was connected.
@@darrenaston1776 i just mean why ask on here if you already have the answer? Its something me and others notice happen with a lot of people, they’ll ask us all the same question- why ask if you don’t trust the answer given? Not trying to pick on you, its just something that me and a few others have been discussing literally this weekend, and we all wonder why we bother replying sometimes
@@BWSTT ok no bother. Apologies for the time wasted. Cheers for the help
@@darrenaston1776 its 30nm and fresh bolts everytime just incase anyone else sees and wonders what the answer is. Should be fitted with heat paste, which will act as a lube and mean they actually tighten a bit more than 30nm dry, so if you go dry go a bit tighter
Not good news re the chain readings especially after all that hard work swapping engines out. Looks like a call to the seller 😐
Is being resolved don’t worry
That's rotten luck dishonest seller but as you said in earlier comments about doing another flush on a 225 before and after is a good idea. Just don't do too many on the same engine I had a buddy who did a flush every third service on his car and it ruined the engine after the 3rd time around 80k it smoked like an old ford cvh engine
Rebuild the other one a stick it back in. Get your money back...move on
Its like you’ve already seen this movie! Got the parts sat on the shelf, waiting for a good time to do it
@@BWSTT👍
