Thank you so much for not putting sugar in it! I’m from Mississippi and my momma never put sugar in the cornbread. I moved out to California and the cornbread was so sweet.
I hate when people put sugar in things that are supposed to be savory. I do like jiffy bread alone but definitely not in my dressing. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Me to no sugar if I want something sweet I'll make a cake not corn bread I like someone make there corn bread like and the way I remember it from a child thank you for this video
I was a jiffy girl until today!!! Never wanted to cook never liked it. I made my first real cornbread for dressing this thanksgiving!! I’m sooooo proud of myself! Thank u!
If you're anywhere near Oklahoma, Shawnee Mills makes a great white corn meal mix. Add egg, oil, buttermilk and some sugar if you want. Add more oil or butter to a hot skillet and put in a hot oven. Use a big skillet because it's better if not too thick.
So glad to see a real and authentic cornbread recipe that doesn’t have sugar anywhere near it! I can’t stand sweet cornbread, though my aunt prefers it. I make her cornbread muffins with sugar and then I make a proper pone just like yours for the rest of the family!
I've been watching cornbread recipes today, and the way you fixed yours is the closest to the way I fix mine. You're the first so far whose heated the skillet before putting the cornbread in. I always do that. Makes great cornbread with the best edges.
Merry Christmas. I just made your cornbread recipe and it is delicious. I used self rising corn meal and 1 cup of all purpose flour instead but I followed the recipe to the end. Thank you.
Thanks for your recipe for cornbread dressing. The video was so helpful. You brought all of things together to match my mom’s dressing. It impressed her this Thanksgiving and my daughter asked for it again this weekend.
I love your video.. I was looking for a real homemade dressing like my gma and u hit it on the head.. I love love love your videos.. u help me so much thank u.. my u continue to bless us with your recipes
Thank you very much for the recipe. Cornbread is in the oven now, it looked like yours so I'm praying it turns out. I didn't have access to cornmeal mix so I used cornmeal, flour, and baking powder. Fingers crossed.
Aunt jamima is another cornmeal mix that is very good as well. I make my corn bread like this for my dressing but for eating with greens, peas, beans etc. I will sneak in about a tbl spoon of sugar. You’re bread looks sooo yummy!I know your kitchen is lit after taking this from the oven!
Thank You for the upload. You make dressing the way my mom does but she never knows the measurements for anything lol. Hope you find time to do more videos! ❤
Gosh, you are an excellent cook! We cook pretty much just alike! No sugar in my cornbread! I use my cornbread for my dressing, too! I don’t want my bread sweet! 💯again!!
My grandmother made her cornbread exactly the same way and I mines came out exactly like hers and yours. Thank you for reminding how she did it but, now I got to figure out what to do with 3 boxes of Jiffy.😅😅😅😅
The only buttermilk I could find here in the UK was a Polish brand that's so thick I had to use a cup of water and all of the buttermilk to get the right consistency. It's already been in the toaster oven now for 20 minutes and looks okay so far.
@@KitchenNotesfromNancy It's very pale from all the buttermilk. It's moist and spongy. I've crumbled it up into two freezer bags as there's so much. I'm going to try again with regular milk and a little greek yogurt instead, then try making dressing adding some of the first batch.
@@KitchenNotesfromNancy I made another batch of cornbread. I made the dressing with a bag of the buttermilk cornbread, the new batch and a box of StoveTop Turkey stuffing. It's quite nice. I forgot the eggs but I ended up with two trays so I can add an HB egg to the other one when I bake it tomorrow. I still have a bag of the buttermilk cornbread in the freezer. I'm going to be sick of dressing by March.
I came here after the cornbread dressing video.. where did you purchase your skillet and how much? I saw some at Jc Penny’s but I wasn’t sure which one I should get.
I love the Lodge brand of cast iron skillet. Here is a link that you can use to purchase one like the one I am using amzn.to/2RNbvgQ. Thank you for watching!
I saw a pic of this cornbread and I'm going to use this recipe for Thanksgiving. I haven't watched the video yet, but I know this is the one from the picture. 😋
for bbq, chili, dressing no sugar lol for the holidays sugar 🤷🏾♀️😂 my family migrated out of Alabama. Gma started adding sugar when the grand kids said we prefer it w/ sugar
I’m noticing the cornmeal mix say self rising is that still ok? Cause I do see some that doesn’t say self rising but it’s still the mix. I know you using self rising flour so I just didn’t want to be to much rising lol
Hey lady when you're giving out a recipe can you guess I give the temperature of what the oven should be you know like what you're doing but we need to know how hard it should be and how long it should be in there
We didn't put sugar in our corn bread except maybe just a tablespoon. Hot skillet with oil in the bottom and hot oven. If I see thick corn bread with a shiny top I know it's full of sugar.
Are you making just cornbread or using the cornbread to make something else? This should serve about 8-10 people depending on the size you cut. The ingredients are listed below I would multiply everything by 16-20. I hope that helps
Hurray! This is southern cornbread. People should NEVER put sugar in cornbread. That's disgusting to this native Tennessean. Thank you, for making this cornbread the right way.

That's the tried & true 🆗 💞💞
I couldn’t find corn meal mix. So I have white corn meal, self rising flour. Will I need to mix something then into the corn meal I have?
Nope that will work. The self rising flour has what it needs to make it rise
Yummy!
When you use cornmeal mix do you salt ?
Looks good I couldn't have made it better myself
Thanks for watching!
I would of never thought to mix the eggs up first wow ty
Hi Nancy ! Looks so good . What size is your skillet ?
I think this is the 10inch. I will check when I get home and update this if it’s a different size. Thanks for watching!
I saw a pic of this cornbread and I'm going to use this recipe for Thanksgiving. I haven't watched the video yet, but I know this is the one from the picture. 😋
Hi Nancy, if I don't have a cast iron what can I substitute? I have Pyrex rectangle and square
You can use either one of those or will still turn out great
Yes

Thanks ☺️ luv it 🥰
What was your oven temperature?
If you only have yellow cornmeal and regular flour what can you do to make it rise?
You can use a little baking powder about 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp depending on how much you’re making
Can you use regular milk instead of Buttermilk?
What size is the skillet being used?
Thank you
Made this dressing. It was amazing! Great Recipe!
It's very good
❤
Relax and take notes
I’m going to be using this recipe
What size skillet 10" or 12" ?
Going to make that but will add 3tbs of sugar. I have a bad sweet tooth.♥️♥️
Just a little sugar gives it balance
Yummy
My husband accidentally got yellow corn meal...will this work as well???
Yes it will work fine. It will just have a yellow tint to it
Hey lady when you're giving out a recipe can you guess I give the temperature of what the oven should be you know like what you're doing but we need to know how hard it should be and how long it should be in there
Love your videos! Can I use all-purpose flour? I can't fine self rising 😔
You can. Is your corn meal self rising? If not add a little pinch of baking powder
@@KitchenNotesfromNancy okay thank you! If not, I will add the backing powder. 🥰🥰
When you said "NO SUGAR" I knew you was the truth....SUBSCRIBE
Can you make fried cornbread fritters with this mixture?
Yes, I have used this same mixture to make stop top bread or what we call aka hocakes here in the South. Thank you for watching!
No you can't
What temperature did you bake this on? Sorry if you already said it in the video!
Bake at 400. Check out my update video for cornbread too! Thanks for watching!

Hello can you tell me what brand corn meal mix I need to buy?
I like to use the Martha White buttermilk cornmeal mix
Oh never mind you mention it lol
Thank you so much
Is the meal and flour self rising or all purpuse?
I usually use self rising corn meal mix and regular all purpose flour. If you have regular corn meal you can use self rising flour
Also is it ok to use pan I don’t have iron skillet
Yes! It will still come out just fine. You got this! Let me know how it turns out
what size cast iron skillet do you use?
I have different sizes. This was either a 10in or 12in
this is the closest to my grandmother. actually no this is how my gma cook it when its not from scratch
I used half the amount of buttermilk and replaced the other portion with mayonaise. Makes it really moist and fluffier. Try it sometime :)
I have still delicious
yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
No baking powder or sugar??
What is the oven temp?
375
