I wanted a much cheaper device but the moment I saw how well this handled the era of gaming I miss the most, like PS2 and GameCube, I knew I had to have it.
It's a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. So I signed up for one, as soon as the first reviews came out. I would say buying this would save all of us some money, coz we would stop buying multiple devices.
Hell yeah, it's like the perfect balance in terms of power, portability, and ergonomics. I think the only thing holding it back is the software/ OS.
@jjpnd01 if youre talking about the emulators, thats got notthing to do with the device itself.
@PJP-DJP I'm talking about it being "android". That's really the only thing holding it back. It can't run windows games or emulators that are on windows natively. Other than that it's a beast. I don't play windows games anyway but I know a lot of people appreciate them
@@jjpnd01 I think it can run windows 11 and linux too.
Yeah I have a stack of different devices I had been buying over time and hadn’t really been using when something else came. Sold a couple and it covered the cost of this so it was kind of a cool feeling to exchange them for this all in one
Would love to see a comparison between the Odin 2 and Loki Zero, especially because the Loki has Jellos now, making it's emulation capabilities a lot more impressive and versatile, capable of doing up to PS3 and Wii U/Switch. Now I'm mainly conaidering the ergonomics and battery life between these two, as it seems that the Loki looks to have slightly better comfort with its wider build and bigger joysticks, but it still seems like it can't touch the Odin 2 when it comes to battery life, so there's going to be pros and cons to both devices. Would love to see what you think in a comprehensive comparison!
Thank you so much for this indepth-review. I will definitely revisit this video as you also showed a lot of settings and tweaks I haven‘t really seen in other reviews. Great video!
Absolutely epic review that covers everything... Thank you for going so in-depth, super excited to get mine next month!
Thank you for a so deep/geeky review, I’ll buy mine!!!
I love how detailed this review is, great work on the video!
I just ordered one. Can't wait to break it out! Excellent review!
i watched this a couples of times already and its still good to watch!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INCLUDING ACCESSORIES!!!!!!!!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💖
Welcome! Glad you liked that section.
Thanks for your work!
Great Video Mr. Kei you can tell you put alot in this video thank you for all you do.
Thanks!
So excited for this!
Excellent video, well done, very insightful
I was hesitant on getting the odin2 since what i really wanted was an x86 handheld. But now that all the reviews are coming in, I'm glad i actually did pre ordered one.
Great review as always , don’t usually watch close to a hour review but this was very well done and covered just about everything.
A interesting comparison would be with the Loki Zero and see which one does emulation better.
Thanks! Actually that thought crossed my mind too (Odin 2 vs Loki Zero). Pretty sure the Odin would win by a large margin though but it would still be a fun test.
@@KeiRetroGamingThe Loki Zero has Jellos available now which ups it's emulation capabilities by quite a large margin!
The Odin 2 pretty much blows the Loki Zero out of the water in terms of emulation. The only upside of Loki Zero is that you can play some light or older PC games.
great review Kei
I've watched so many Odin 2 reviews, this is definitely top 3, and I'm now convinced that I need one. Thanks for being so thorough. sub'd
Thanks a lot for a thorough review. I really hope you're right about the input lag.
I'm one of the people who've been measuring (posting videos) and complaining about Odin 1 (Pro/Base)'s input lag (in Android) :)
I measured it using the same slow-motion recording method on three other different devices and compared them with the Odin.
Btw. - as far as I understand run-ahead actually doesn't reduce lag (it skips forward) - but when the action does happen (after the lag delay) run-ahead makes it catch up / compensate for the delay (skipping forward) as if it had no lag in the first place (but then it only shows the last part of e.g. a jump). It's like the movement when you run and then jump should be running, then up, then down: __ /(up) \(down) ... but with lag and run-head it would skip the /up animation and become: ______ \(down) simply "teleporting" up to catch up with the delay and then you're on the way down when the delayed reaction comes.
Good, i also recorded and posted input lag tests of the odin lite and i'm skeptical of the input lag not being high until someone post proof.
My super fan cold grey pro is on the way, it’s supposed to be here on Halloween. I’m super excited!
Have fun!
Nice video, I enjoyed it!
Can't wait for my unit to come.
Hopefully it'll arrive soon! You'll have a ton of fun with it.
Teh fact that you took out the cartridge while showing switch games is hilarious as you never know lol. Great video btw
Ultra fast bootup stoked for my black base preorder 🔥
Great video btw very helpful for when I get my own a couple of weeks. But one question that people don’t ask is that how is the shipping process does it take a 1month to arrive or a week to ship? Thank you
Another great video from the legend himself!
I never thought I’d see the day that “emulation” software isn’t powerful enough to utilize the hardware on an android handheld. It’s always been the other way around. 😂 This device is a beast! I may need to pull some overtime to buy it now. Although tbh I’m not incredibly happy with AYN right now tbh! Anywho awesome video!!! 😁
Thank you for the extensive review.
Just a note, in case it hasn't been mentioned, 50% memory usage on the pro model (12GB) is 75% usage on the base model (8GB), all else being equal. Reasonable.
Completely new to emulators, I don’t know anything but I’ve been doing research on which hand held to buy but will definitely be getting this. Any videos recommended on how to get things downloaded and start playing? 😅
What are your thoughts on the Odin 2? Are you planning to get one? (Updates below)
-A few people have mentioned that my video gameplay appears stuttery, but this is likely attributed to the camera I'm using or a potential issue on UA-cam. There was no stuttering in the actual games.
-AYN has fixed the charging issue with the Baseus Power Bank.
-There have been 2 updates since posting my video, further reducing input latency.
What's the name of your theme?
I'm not sure yet. The dpad seems to be too low for me. I wait till they announce the rp4 and then I decide. But everthing else about the odin 2 is really tempting
Pixels by Gris:
daijishou.github.io/Gallery/wallpapers_pack#Pixels
It was mentioned in a couple other reviewers videos that the FPS counter Odin 2 came with is very inaccurate.
In some instances you can allocate ram to vram, which is why you would want more than 8gb
Thanks for the awesome review man. So excited for mine on Monday! Btw how long does Snap last in handheld mode and Bluetooth off?
Thanks! Battery test on portable/720p with Bluetooth off came out to 5 hours in Snap. Odd how it's the same but that's the results I got.
@@KeiRetroGaming Thanks a bunch for checking! I wonder if it's because performance mode locks frequencies
Could be... But it's needed to maintain a decent framerate.
Changing vulkan to opengl and vice-versa can majorly affect heat in yuzu
I wish wish wish you'd was a Gen 3 SD 8. Such a big uplift
Purchased the max as my Christmas present.
Awesome Christmas gift!
I love this RP3+ but grip is a must!
At least adhesive grip!
If you have a go pro you could shoot at high frame rate and then push button and while editing the video measure the screen response time for andriod.
ordered an Odin 2 Pro yesterday :)
Nice! It's still my favourite portable emulation device probably. Good choice!
hey bud nice video and love the shot between odin 2 vs loki! Did you mod your sticks? I was thinking of white but now thinking of going both bLACK.
Did I mod the sticks on the Loki?
@@KeiRetroGaming the size comparison in your odin 2 vs loki max size comparison here shows a different stick on your loki max. It has silver accent which give it a premuim look. Wanted to know if ypu mod and what you used? Thank you for this video. Very helpful man.🎉
I showed the silver joystick mod in my Loki Zero upgrade guide here:
ua-cam.com/video/MwR2_uR2amw/v-deo.html
For sound comparison, check Razor phone 2.
I just dusted off my original Odin! Purple 😁 once I can afford it and if I can justify it, I would love one of these. Maybe for my birthday 🎂😁😁😁💕✨🇦🇺 great review, thank you for the depth.
If only they'd make a 6 button face button style like the saturn controller with still having 2 sets of shoulder buttons.
Did you try the Solar Bay test from 3D Mark?
@7:24 Instant subscribe.
Omg, you don't know how frustrating it is to me that all size comparisons CENTER the devices, instead of lining them up on the left. For me, the Original Switch is obscenely large, and the Switch Lite is perfectly pocketable - so when people center those 2 against the Odin I HAVE NO IDEA how that will fit in my pocket, because it's in-between. My entire purchase hinges on this one detail at this point.
That actually bothers me too when UA-camrs do that. Glad you found it helpful and welcome to the community!
id love getting the upgrade over my odin 1 But I cant give up my cell service for on the go anywhere retroachievments!
amazing... cant wait to receive mine... its already shipped odin 2 pro 12gb :D black
Exciting!
Hi mate , great video thanks for sharing what model is this base / Pro ? Apologies if stated & I missed . I’m thinking of ordering one of these I do really like them but with shipping on top it becomes costly. In your opinion will the base model work fine for a lot of switch emulation or do I need the pro ?
I’m a novice to the emulating Space any help would be great, thank you 🙏
I ended up with the Pro model. If I were to make a recommendation, I'd suggest either the base or Pro model. The base version is the way to go if you're looking for the best value. Personally, I haven't seen any Switch titles exceed 8GB in memory usage. A few reviewers mentioned that TOTK and BOTW can go over 8GB, but most others are below that. In my opinion, the base model is the way to go. However, the Pro model is a good choice if you want broader compatibility with more of the Switch's catalog and need extra space on your device for additional Android games. Hope that helps!
@@KeiRetroGamingThank you so much !! Thoroughly appreciate your time and such a detailed informative response. I know there’s probably a lot to like about these devices, as I mentioned I’m complete novice to emulation and it’s all new to me apart from the actual games themselves. I am leaning towards the pro unit I’m based in Melbourne Au unit +screen protector +case and the ever painful shipping costs totals $665 .... Aside I think you’re spot on the pro would allow more potential for future detailed storage . May I ask you where you get your roms from .....( if you don’t wish to state via you tube platform I’m happy to send you alternative contact methods for me)
Also are the roms themselves specific for particular emulators ?
Thanks once again for your help and time 🤝
I'm sorry but you're responsible for providing your own games. The pro model is a great way to go though!
Bit the bullet and bought one today on the last day of the IGG campaign while just having purchased an odin pro a month ago (didn’t realize the 2 was coming out). Probably going to take a hit on the odin pro selling it for less than I paid, but I’m hoping odin2 is the last device I’ll need
Having used the Odin 2, I can easily say we now need to wait for the OS and app development to catch up before we need faster hardware. Out of every device I've tried ARM wise, this is genuinely the most impressive. You'll have this for a long time I'm sure.
Battery Life on the Odin 2 is crazy! 😮
Just came across this video linked on Reddit. Whether or not a device can utilize the speeds of an A2 has not to do so much with the OS (android, windows, linux) as with the reader and interface bus. So it has to be determined on a case by case basis.
EXCELLENT review! Only gripe is I wish you had the battery current -10 on cpu float as well. I love to see that to gauge how much power it may.. be using at any one time.
I'd love to get this but $508 cdn when my Odin 1 does everything I need it to do, I'm content to wait to see what else is on the horizon.
Really dig this in depth review and comparisons to the RP3+ and Odin 1 itself. And dig the streaming test! I've had great streaming using my pc/moonlight and castor, kinda negates the need for me to get an x86 device.
It's the handheld to beat! Stream PS3/Wii-U/Xbox/360 games and it's great!
Has there been any information on if Taki Udon designed this too?
Retroid did have a hand in it tho.
Hi Kei, could you please share the stats overlay you used in your video? Thank you in advance 🙏
I used CPU Float:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.waterdaaan.cpufloat&hl=en_CA&gl=US
The only complaint I would have about this handheld (after watching many early reviews) is that they don't offer European Super Nintendo color scheme. Which in my opinion looks much nicer than the "cold Grey" color scheme, which looks like USA version of Super Nintendo.
they do now at least (dunno if it was there before) it's the last one called colour - rainbow
Any tips or ideas on best experience for streaming apps on the odin 2. Im waiting on my odin 2 pro. I havent played on consoles in years lol and am just wondering how i could play console/pc games (ps3 and up )on this device. Emulation is great, but i hope i can do more on this device.
Seeking information regarding ways without a pc required. Thanks in advance
I use moonlight or steam link for streaming PC games but I've never tried streaming consoles. Try moonlight and go from there.
Why is there a vertical white bar on the right side of the screen? Is it a problem with the display, or does it come from the OS o launcher? Thanks. Great video
You can disable that by turning off the "floating icon" on the Android bar up top. It just enables customizing the on-screen display, fps counter etc. It's built into the OS.
@@KeiRetroGaming thanks for the info, I'm waiting to receive mine and I was a bit worried about that 😅
I think you'll be pretty happy when it arrives. It'll be years for this thing is outdated.
I really wish more handhelds could have bezelless screens.
there are no bezeless panels. the bezels are there to protect the sensitive glass from shattering and they also host the circuits and traces that go to the actual display inside. the trick that ayaneo used to give the impression of no bezel is to make the whole front of the device glass and fuse the display to that, practically the whole front is one huge bezel
@@OvidiuBuleandrathen let me put it another way. I wish more handhelds could have smaller/minimal bezels, especially vertically. It makes a surprising difference.
Nice review. Did you have to pay any import fees? I also live in Canada.
I paid a $25 import fee for my Loki Zero but nothing for my Odin 2 Pro. Odd for DHL since they usually charge at least tax. I'd say under $30 though as a safe bet.
@@KeiRetroGaming thanks for the response. I can't wait for mine, I went with the base model.
The base model is an excellent choice! You'll have lots of fun when it arrives.
@@KeiRetroGaming Quick update, I ended up paying $44 CAD to DHL for the base model. So far so good even running Yuzu. I'm loving this device!
Thanks for the update! Always nice to hear the community enjoying their game consoles.
What about games on SD card ? They work well with that small amount of speed ?
What version of sonic is this? Would be nice to play wide-screen with some classic 16bit games.
A1 vs A2 for microsd is for random access performance, not the sequential performance you are testing. And A2 require a host device that support it to take advantage of it
Right idea, wrong test I guess on my part. Thanks for letting me know. The Odin 2 doesn't seem to be able to take full advantage of the A2 card anyways as I discovered after some additional testing on random reads and writes. I've reached out to let them know. A2 cards (all the ones I tested) ended up slower.
Even so the sequential performance was considerably worse making me think that A2 is just not the way to go, what do you think?
@@KeiRetroGamingdoes your a2 card bench faster when tested on another device such as a PC/laptop? Or your Loki?
When using the card reader below, the same Samsung card achieves 151 Mbs in reads and 102 Mbs in writes on my PC. Here's the card reader I used for testing:

Hey can you please explain how to install the saturation script better? Which "Notepad" am I supposed to use for that? There are so many versions on the PlayStore. Thank you
You would edit the file on your pc before transferring it over. I made a tutorial on the saturation adjustment script here:
ua-cam.com/video/aSqdOMcd490/v-deo.html
A few people have also noticed the script not changing the saturation. The last few updates might've changed this.
@@KeiRetroGamingthanks I only have a Mac but will give it a try. Cheers
So does the script work still?
I think Need for Speed Most Wanted for PS2 and GameCube is a difficult title to run at 60 fps as even the Steam Deck slows down to upper 40's fps when your racing multiple opponents.
Awesome handheld.. I'm totally newbie in retro gaming, so I wonder how to get all these emulators games that seem to be all free..
Thanks in advance
Awesome review! I am not sure if you own a steam deck as well. But I was debating on selling the steam deck and getting this as this has a better form factor. Would you recommend this? Thanks!
I own both Steam Deck models currently. What do you play on the deck that you're hoping to play on the Odin 2? X86 and ARM devices are drastically different in gaming capabilities.
@@KeiRetroGaming thanks for the quick reply! I mainly just want something that can emulate PS2 and GC and everything below. And also want something that can emulate the switch as well. I don't really emulate too much PC games. Just the occasional AAA title.
If you want PC games at all, don't go with an android system unless you want to stream everything from your main PC. As far as emulation goes the Odin 2 will do everything but PS3 and Xbox (only X86 devices have that capability currently).
@@KeiRetroGaming sounds great! I saw your review on the Loki max. Would you say that is better than the steam deck if I am looking for something with better form factor?
Definitely! The Max is much more portable in that regard while still adding some good grips on the back. The Max has pretty loud fans though as mentioned in the review so you definitely need a custom fan curve. Out of all my X86 devices I still pick up my Ally the most (I also find it more portable than the deck too). The Max and Ally are both faster than the deck either way so there's lots of good options to choose from. If you don't mind windows I'd recommend trying a good condition open box Z1 Extreme Ally from your local Best Buy, and if that's too big after a week using it then go for the Loki Max. If size and portability are your main factors the Max isn't a bad option. Hope that helps! (If you try the Ally just use the internal storage over a micro SD card)
I'm all in on this I'm getting the 16/512 in blue
The blue model looks amazing! Hopefully they manage to ship these out quick.
@KeiRetroGaming keeping my fingers crossed
What is that app called that shows the stats?
Maybe a stupid question, but I never used an android based retro handheld. Can we hide the white bar on the right of the screen ? It obsessed me, like a light bleed.
The side pullout menu bar? Yeah it's a toggle on the top.
Which game did I label incorrectly? Lets see who can find it first!
The 3DS game after Samus Returns still said Samus Returns....did I get it?
Ha yep 👍
Rune Factory
seems very underrated
Nice review, just got a little sad about no input lag testing.
It's really easy, all that's needed is recording the button press at 120+fps and count the frames that an action happens on screen after the button is fully pressed.
Wich theme are you susign ?? looks amazing

It's a shame that they missed out adding full size thumb sticks.
Wow as if Winlator isn't working. Would have been one of the first things I attempted. Hopefully fixed soon. Working on my S23 lol
Hello, what were those gpu drivers u had to install, care to share any link?

Nintendo peaking around the corner: alright boys, he had the cartridge. Clear out, clear out!!!!
Have you been able to test the first Sly Cooper for PS2? My buddy and I have tried and failed to get it running at full speed, let alone 30fps lol
I don't have that game unfortunately. Every PS2 game I've tested though ran full speed though, so it could be a problematic game in general on emulators if you're having issues.
My Odin 1 is by far the best Android device that I own!
hello I'm just wondering if any of the models support micro SD card if so whats the max storage it can handle I haven't seen anyone show it in videos but online forums say you can that so I'm confused
It'll support any sized micro SD card you have. I personally wouldn't recommend going 1tb though due to the sheer cost of the cards themselves, even with 512gb in mine I haven't run into any issues with running out of space.
Hope we get Cemu for android at some point.
Can you use NTFS file system on your SD card or does it have to be Fat32/exFat?
I'd recommend using exFat.
should put in the ma consume in cpu float, so we can predict the battery life for every game
Excellent recommendation!
Did the usb c port have enought power to display on external monitor or glasses like xreal air?
I don't own any type-c powered monitors or the xreal air glasses otherwise I would've happily tested it for you. My guess is, yes probably since it supports full 4k60 video out. Seems to be a fully featured type c port.
I’m confused. What’s the point of guessing with Shadow of the Colossus?? Just put it in times 3 or 4 resolution and see if it works well or not. Guessing don’t help.
What digital caliper are you using?
www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BJQNRZW8
what is the SD Card performance app being used in this video? To be honest, I stopped using Samsung SD cards years ago, after looking video footage twice using their storage. I'm using the 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro. I want to test the performance.
That's A1 SD benchmark:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a1dev.sdbench
@@KeiRetroGaming I don't see this app in the Play Store. Link doesn't work. Thanks for the reply

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Saplin.CPDT&pcampaignid=web_share
Do you owning this Odin 2 AND a steam deck? I own a steam deck and I have the Odin on order so I can try a smaller device. Just want to know
I own both. I rarely use my steam deck though because of the screen quality and the size of the device itself.
@@KeiRetroGaming thanks. So you don’t think I’m totally crazy then 😂?
Ha nope! I love smaller and more portable devices too.
That Patriot 512 GB A1 card is $29.99 on Amazon right now. That Samsung 512 GB Pro Plus A2 card is $28.99 right now. 🤔
Are both sold by Amazon or directly from the manufacturer? That seems like too good of a price on the Pro Plus.
Can the max model with 16gb rams be potentially used to emulate ps4 and xbox 360? Xbox 1 high end pc games?
no,you can't.There is no xbox 360 or ps4 emulator on android and you can't play any pc games either.
Hi, thanks for the Video.
Can you please test next time the Game Prototyp (Xbox360).
(:
There is no Xbox 360 emulator on Android.
Will my Play Store versions of games like borderlands 2 and half life run on this? Hoping they're not shield TV exclusives
They should if they're not shield exclusives. Either way you could probably side load them onto the Odin 2 just fine.
Is it the case where you can insert a blank SD card into the Odin 2 and it will format the file structure? Then you can populate the SD card with all files thereafter?
Either or. You can set up a card beforehand, just make sure to swipe the format message off the screen when it asks you. EXFAT is what you want to format your card to if you want to get it ready earlier.
@@KeiRetroGaming thank you so much for the response and your video was amazing. Super thorough. I got the base for GC and PS2 and it looks like I'm in for an awesome ride. I'll keep my eyes open if you make anything else for the Odin 2
I'm having trouble with my odin 2 and random frame drops when using streaming apps (moonlight, psplay, chiaki.) It seems to dip to the high 40s and then back up pretty frequently, so it looks a little jittery. I tried this on my odin lite side by side and its not present. I'm wondering if you see something like this when streaming?
You might need to disable "variable refresh rate" in windows and hardware accelerated gpu scheduling as both can cause issues with streaming in windows. Hardware accelerated gpu scheduling in particular has caused me a lot of problems before. Also try using the HEVC codec as bandwidth requirements are halved with that.
Is there some setting like this on Android? It's set properly on the streaming Windows machine, but still my odin lite is a smooth 60fps while the brand new odin 2 dips frequently.
File or rom structure is it just storage / roms/ then each system name ?
That's how I organize my collection but it doesn't really matter so long as you link everything properly.
I’m surprised the switch lite looks so much smaller
Will It Play On The TV
If you plan to do Switch base won’t be enough.
How does it perform when is connected to a TV?
Fantastic actually! Feels like a switch when docked and looks very sharp thanks to 4k/60 output.
@@KeiRetroGaming awesome, thanks.
Around $300 for the base, $370 for pro & $450 for Max Expensivvve
Far better than a anbernic wow
look at the input lag when doing circular motion 51:00, it more worst than streaming xD
If youre planning kn doing Switch emulation, the Max is the way to go due to the 16gb of ram
I get that it cant run ps3 and wiiu cause there are no emulators for them on android. But does this have the potential power to run ps3 and wiiu games if they ever do come? Just curious how future proof it actually is.
It can run switch games, so yes, it can run Wii U games as well as PS3 games
