Yamaha make awesome, solidly built, reliable and great sounding products at all price ranges. I've owned their products for many years, and can't see why or how people can diss them.
As someone who has been in the space for about 3 years (not much really). I'm getting that impression based on how reliable my Yamaha receiver has been. Sounds great too.
Was hoping for news of a new line of Home theater receivers but not tonight. Found it interesting that Phil doesn't like YPAO flat calibrated response and uses Front. Will have to give it a try.
I have the Yamaha R50 receiver that my brother gifted me. 35 watts per channel. Retail price was 339.00 in 1983 it was one of the first Receivers designed for the Compact Disc. It’s got a decent amount of heft in the amplifier section. I haven’t hooked up a FM tuner yet to see how well it pulls in local stations. Somewhat of a warm sound to it. Bass is warm and highs are clean but not bright as compared to my Rotel and Adcom power amps.
MusicCast looks neat, but only works on flat networks - your phone and devices all have to be on the same class C network. You can't have your phone on a separate vlan and point it to the IPs of your devices, which is a big limitation for me. Thanks for covering these new offerings - good things trickling down to the more affordable lines!
@@kenhiett5266 what don't you understand? Your sources (like a phone) have to be on the same network as the MC device. You can't have the MC device on a separate vlan because it uses a protocol for discovery that isn't passable between vlans. The app lacks an option to specify device IPs (the last time I used it, which was around the time of the original comment).
@@kenhiett5266 no I mean the same home network. Google around those terms - it's a technical problem that only people who run a segmented network will run into.
@@biffulatr I'm coming from an old Sunfire unit from the early 2000's that didn't have a network feature. I just plugged my phone into an auxiliary port when I wanted to use a steaming service. I'll use those acronyms you provided and go educate myself on how this works. Ty
Reliable and quality brand. Love that Stereo products have sub outs. I wonder why is the new HDMI input on stereo receivers marketed as only for TV ARC? Good gaming pcs with Nvidia send lossless digital signals through hdmi. Currently, USB/analog are shown as the cabled connection options for pcs. Does that mean Pc users can't directly use the HDMI input?
Hey Gene, how about reviewing the 20yrs old YAMAHA NS series speakers ? (NS-555 towers, NS-444 center & NS-333 bookshelf) - No one has done it yet ! They sound just beautiful & price/performance is great but there are NO serious reviews of these budget YAMAHAs. Looks like definitely your kind of product to be reviewed....Interested ? 😉
I bought the very transparent C-5000 pre, currently paired with Pass XA25 and looking to upgrade to Anthem STR, much better specs and $3,500 cheaper than M5000. Would prefer Gene's approval before pulling the trigger, because he is very familiar with both of these power amps, but would appreciate yall's input as well.
The M5000 is far more powerful than the 100watt spec. It truly doubles down with halving load impedance all the way 2 ohms. That means it will do 400wpc x 2 both channels driven 2 ohms continuously. It's also built to another level than can only be appreciated if seen in person. The Anthem STR is a great amp as well. I just sold mine after using it for 5-6 years ONLY bc I upgraded my speakers to active in this room. I would consider either the matching Yamaha M5000, Anthem STR or Classe Delta BEFORE Pass Labs.
Wake me up when Yamaha releases an AVR with HDMI 2.1 which is not capped at 24 Gbps which makes 4K120 or even VRR impossible. All other manufacturers by now have 40 Gbps or even the full 48 (which supports 144Hz at 4K).
Having a Toroid transformer is not always better. It is only a marginal advantage over an EI if you have very clean AC power going to it. In a lot of cases it is better to have an EI transformer.
Hey gene. Your Boy Shane Lee blocked censored me. I'm not crying, just thought you should know. Very emotional people out here Shane Lee needs to wake up and stop being childish. I've always respected you and have never done anything like that. Never insulted him besides him living in an apartment. Its just facts

Very informative. I have R-N803, and now I understand what YPAO is doing. Thank you very much 🙏
This is single handedly the best video on UA-cam.
Great video. Learned a lot. Love the pre outs on Yamaha gear.
So when are the new batch of receivers coming out? It's been 3 years already since the last release
Ahhh, the Z-9 was awesome 👌

Alway keep up the good work! Most people don't realize you guys have been around for a long, long time, and are trusted reviewers!
Is Yamaha updating their A6A & A8A line? Those AVRs are disappearing from online stores in the UK
I'm very interested in hearing the Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers paired with a Yamaha R-N1000A amp!
I have the lintons I would like to hear them with the 701
I have the Linton’s with the N1000 very pleased for the price I paid
The R-N600a looks like the old R-N602. Audioholics needs to review the R-N600a also.
Funny that the CR-2020 is mentioned. If you go on any auction sites, they are priced as high as the newer models.
Hi Gene,
Any idea when Yamaha will release another flagship processor to replace the CXA5200?
Thanks

Can we have musiccast apps on pc and through ethernet please?
I love my AS 1200
