This is so badass! I love everything about this receiver. The dynamic management of the equal loudness curves and a loudness knob! Awesome!
    The hdmi input.
    The classic styling.
    The toroid flanked by heatsinks.
    An oled display.
    This thing is fantastic!
90 watts is interesting, I see allot of “130w” advertised receivers are actually 90w when you read the fine print.
When i lookup the specs of various second hand gear I see 90 watts is very common and I wonder why that is, maybe this is an engineering target related to synergy with Japanese architectural norms and their housing environments, or perhaps the physics of output transistors just favor 90 watts as a threshold for clean output.
Loved seeing the pics of Yamahas tuning technologies on the speakers, just like KEF’s meta backwave resonators, although Yamaha has been working with these ideas long before kef ever brought them out. I would really like to see Yamaha’s ACP-2 panels come back around, those were so cool!

    • @Audioholics

This receiver will easily do 100wpc and the thing about it that separates it from most wimpy AV receivers is it's ability to drive low impedance loads. I have found amps that can handle low impedance tend to sound larger than they are even when driving 8 ohm speakers. more on this later.

Yamaha still doing 3-way speakers! Love it! Really wish more top manufacturers would give us 3 ways! They just sound better to me if done right. And some want $3-$5k for 2 ways. For $3500, they can't give me a kick butt 3 way?😢

I can’t wait for Gene’s analysis because this seems to be the device I’ve been waiting to find. I want eARC to handle HD movie soundtracks, but don’t need 10 to 30 channels. I definitely want a USB-B input to handle my music files. The price seems reasonable, too.

what I don't understand was they have USB but they decided to go with the very antiquated and outdated USB type-B connector which though it's been "somewhat" of a "standard" type of rear I/O on these dac equipped integrated amps/receivers (McIntosh has been using those for years and I think still uses them), I'd think that using the much newer and higher bandwidth USB Type-C connector and make the USB port a high speed USB 3.1 or even 3.2 would have been a much better choice.
