- Here's Part 1 of an episode of "The Big Spin" that aired on November 4th, 1985. This is one of the early episodes of the show, when it started out with Chuck Woolery as its host. This episode is noteworthy in that four of the contestants hit the 2 million dollar jackpot. Thanks to my Aunt and Uncle for recording this.
Chuck Woolery was awesome at this show as he was with any show he's done... being a Kentucky guy, he always brought his country charm and wit to work each day and was a true gentleman. Well, I imagine he still is, but I use the past tense because he's not hosting anymore. Chuck is the man!
You haven’t seen his Twitter lately.
@@drewzuhosky6826 man, what happened to him...?
I think The Big Spin should return as a nationwide lottery game show across America like Monopoly Millionaire's Club. It should air on Saturday nights.
80's Commercial Vault, this is AWESOME! I live in Washington State and I normally don't get to see any of the lottery game shows like The Big Spin or Powerball back when it was on, i've been on vacation in California and in Oregon but i've never gotten to see any of the lottery game shows. Washington State has a lottery but I don't think they ever had a lottery game show. Thank You for this, this is sweet.
Chuck Woolery hosted another wheel show! Nice.
And I'll tell you something else, I always enjoyed looking at Big Spin when Edwards was host, especially with the Grand Prize drawing. You surprised me, though, with a Woolery episode. I thought I would NEVER see an episode like this, much less one with four grand prize winners. As for Linda Scott and the KGO broacast, it was October 28, 1985, as it was on that day when Scott won the $2 million.
I never knew Chuck Woolery hosted this show early on.
This was the second episode of "The Big Spin" ever aired.
Great clip! It would also be great to see the early episode of the lady who hit the grand prize, started to jump up and down, only to have the ball roll into the $10,000 slot. She sued the lottery but don't know if she ended up winning.
If you're wondering when this episode aired, it was November 4, 1985. A week before, Linda Scott won the first grand prize of $2 million. As for the four millionaires in this show, I don't know if it's been duplicated since.
Chuck Woolery was hosting "Scrabble" and "Love Connection at the time.
This makes him one of the only people to host three game shows at the same time with Alex Trebek being other as he hosted Jeopardy, Classic Concentration, and To Tell the Truth all at once in 1991
My goodness that would be nearly $5 million by 2021 if won
It's still more exciting than "Love Connection".
Yes, that is indeed Charlie O'Donnell. At that time, O'Donnell was announcer for Tic Tac Dough and Jokers Wild. (It ws the last year for both of the shows).
$2 Million, YAAASSS!
Did anyone get the “Scrabble” vibe from this show? Definitely uses some of the set!
They shot at completely different studios. Not the same set.
80sCommercialVault LoL I figured not, but I meant to put aesthetics at the end of that last sentence...nice show, though, nonetheless! Iowa wasn’t cool enough to have their own lottery TV show...probably wasn’t in the budget.
@@nathanbush6781 That's just every show at the time.
Actually, Paolo, on June 21, 1986, Eve Spences won the progressive jackpot at $15,220,000. It's stil a Big Spin Record. Therefore, the jackpot began before Fall 1986.
Four 10k, three 50k, two 100k, one 2mil. That's an expectation of $239,000 per spin.
Wait... did I hear that right? FOUR $2 million winners? Holy smokes...
Thank you!
Only the first few weeks...Geoff Edwards took over in January 1986.
KNTV. There's a station logo that pops up in part 2.
Hearing Charlie intro Chuck almost had me thinking I was watching a 70s ep of Wheel.
how long did Charlie O'Donnellwas the announcer for the show
I think he might've been announcer until 1987, but I'm not sure.
So, I do believe he did announce early episodes when Geoff Edwards took over for Chuck. (And that when Geoff took over, they still taped a few episodes in Los Angeles before moving up to Sacramento.)
Damn it, you made me google his site. It looks like he added this episode plus the KGO news piece from part 3 to his trading list. I'm 99% sure.
I guess I don't care that much. I just hope he's not profiting off of a video he downloaded off youtube.
The progressive Jackpot came circa Fall, 1986
Which station did this episode air on?
as if Scrabble and love connection wasn;t enough
Shame...but Big Spin had a good run. :)
I hope Make Me a Millionaire is just as good!
Of course now, the show ended last week and is being replaced by the new show, Make Me a Millionaire with Mark L. Walberg of Russian Roulette and Moment of Truth fame.
If you look closely, you can see that the "Big Spin" wheel has 100 spaces. And since there are 10 "$2,000,000" spaces on the wheel, you had a 1-in-10 chance of becoming a multi-millionaire.
I don't know if that ball was just hanging there by a thread. But thank God the wheel stopped when it did!!!
Well, he had two national daily shows at the time as well, so it probably would have been difficult.
They should have kept Chuck as the permanent host.
Misspins can be a good thing I guess.
the great Charlie O' Donnell announcing
3:17 Chuck said "one direction"! I'm sorry, it's just my constant obsession with the British boy band One Direction!
You’re not the only one lad, I’m obsessed with the boys too so when Chuck said that, I did a little scream of excitement!
Didn't he do that for seven years on another game show?
And then, after leaving the show, the show became a huge success.
R.I.P. Charlie O'Donnell
True.
Cool
This month is this episode's 30 years.
