    Thanks for the video. I have just bought a Garmin 935 which appears to be the only model without Race Pacer!
    I run a 23m 5k Park Run with 3 x 100ft elevations per lap in mud and soft poorly draining grass. Can the estimated time allow for the hills? Otherwise I think it will say I'm behind on the hills but without indicating how much slower I can go up each incline to still maintain the average. Does it do this or is there another setting?
    It is like I need a pace for each sector of the lap allowing for hills, thick mud and flat. Bit like an 'optimal lap' F1 drivers compile.

      I believe it will just be consistent. So you would have to 'catch up' on the way down the hill a little bit. I don't know for sure but that is how I interpret the feature

    • @Stuber9077
      @Stuber9077 2 роки тому

      @@SamStewart1 I think you are right. The feature doesn't really help with pacing except on a flat surface. Odd, because your car GPS adjusts is ETA.

      There is a feature that can be used in a similar way called pacepro, but not all garmin watches have it. It’s more of a weighting to positive or negative spilts. The only way I foresee it being able to take into account grade is running against a previous course. But not all garmins have barometer and gps altitude is definitely not accurate enough.

    fantastic stuff this just what I have been looking for in widgets and apps for my Fenix 5X. Is there any way to program a 5K run with each K getting faster ? say start at 4;20 then 4;10, 4;00, 3;50, 3;39 for EG ? for a sub 20 ? Thanks again.

      Yes. Create a workout in the Garmin connect app. Then load this to the watch. Its a great way of doing exactly that. You can even put warm ups in a cool downs. You don't have to press a single button whilst you go.

      There might be, Im not sure. One way of doing it would be to have your data screens auto scrolling so you can see the distance to go every few seconds.

    huawei watch fit 2 has a similar functionality, i generally run by pace, the principle is the same, it takes an overall average pace for the entire run, and if your lucky enough to have a long, flat, hard, surface to run on you would expect your pace to be quite similar all the way round, bar a last segment 'near death experience' sprint
    in practice, many of us run on circuits with different gradient's and different surfaces, making an overall average less useful for judging where you are on your target, what these watches need is a running companion using your best (chosen) effort round a set route, which, using the watch's GPS, it can then report back to you in real time

    Looks like Poole Parkrun. I've done it a few times, and the 10km race around the lakes at Christmas. I suspect that Virtual Partner is fine for a flat course like this, but what if there are hills? My first watch was a basic TomTom Runner. I also found the 'ghost' partner feature by accident, and loved it. Massively motivated me in training. It broke and I replaced with a Polar watch which doesn't have this (but does have estimated finish time feature I don't use (because it's too erratic (because it's based on current pace (one second your EFT is amazing, the next it is dreadful)))). On my TomTom Runner I could race against a previous 'me' in which the pace changed with the hills. The distance ahead/behind indicator was stable because I was running the same course.

    • @SamStewart1
      @SamStewart1  Рік тому +1

      Yes its Poole, its a flat course which helps. I have used it on a more hilly course and its not accurate but ultimately, it gives an idea. If you know your PB on the course then it will still give you a good target to aim for because it might drop behind on the up hills but you will make up for it on the downs. Im sure there is better solutions out there. It has taught me to understand my body and my natural running pacing has got so much better.

      @@SamStewart1 since my comment I bought a forerunner 245 because it also has 'race an activity', which I believe works with virtual partner. This is what I was looking for, but it took some research to find out what Garmin calls it, and which watches have it. Virtual partner on its own probably isn't enough for me.

      @@SamStewart1 Yeovil half marathon today, watch froze after 20 metres!! Reset it a kilometre later and ran without the pace pro I set up last night. I noticed that virtual partner on its own can only do pacing in 5 second intervals, so not very good if you want it to do 5:47 kilometres, for example. Maybe it works better with 'race an activity'. Pace pro looks good, if it doesn't overload the watch again.

    • @SamStewart1
      @SamStewart1  2 роки тому

      One way would be to set up the run as a workout on the watch instead. You can set up the distance and the pace you want to do it in. Then I think it will buzz when you are in the zone, ahead or behind.
