    Hi Sarah! Congratulations on your new PB! Pace Pro strategies def help a ton :D
    I also ran a half marathon but by myself on 31st October 21, using pace pro strategy. My previous PB was 1:57:20, but this time I got 1:55:41 on the same course which has an elevation gain of 363m.

Thanks for all you do at the Running Channel!

    Walking is underrated. When I run 4 minutes and walk 30 seconds I run at faster pace overall than if I ran continuously.

    • @Kelly_Ben
      @Kelly_Ben 2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for this comment! I'd been noticing that on strava, fellow MAF runners running far faster WITH walk breaks than without. I've just started experimenting to see if it works for me too, and today will be my 3rd test.

    • @synchronium24
      @synchronium24 2 роки тому

      Generally speaking you'd be faster overall if you just did the running sections at a slower pace but continuously. That said, if you go slow enough your form starts to break down, and that actually could be less efficient than walking.

    Well done!
    I'm still attempting to get to grips with trail running... and I've attempted 30..40..whatever.. mostly short(sic) off road ultras: I don't like them! I've decided to treat them as a 'long run' training for road half and full marathons, time on feet, a Calorie using day in the country. They are not races for me anymore: I have a 50 miler in a couple of weeks, there is a 14 hour cutoff, I'm aiming for 13hours 59minutes (other in - race - cutoffs may apply!)
    Explain.
    Why were there only runners towards the end of the race? I'm confused! Where were they near the beginning?
    Garmins? Don't ya luv 'em! Great app, great features... I've got the Fenix 5x and frankly I don't need all the metrics shown.
    I have a local 10mile off roader 2morro - damn... It is the 10 miler that feels like a half! This will be my 6th time running (staggering and shambling) my way around it.
    Happy days

    Congratulations on your new PB
    PacePro is amazing and I'm using it for my first ever 105 Mile race in a few weeks (starting November 28th !! so close)
    Using PacePro to let me know mostly how far ahead I am as I have a cut off time of 32 hours but I've set the run time for 31 hours 30 minutes so I'm not cutting it close to cut off times for the event.
    The way my Running is going now though I think I'll finish maybe around 26-28 hours though, just don't want to put pressure of time on myself though, aim to finish.

    I’m currently training for my first half marathon this summer. I started with dropping my pace and using the Maffetone Method. I’m starting week 7, and have doubled my distance from 4km to 8km, and my MAF (142 bpm) pace has improved by almost 2 minutes.
    Would love a fresh new Garmin to help me as I ramp up my training over the following months. ☺️🏃‍♀️

    I ran the Minneapolis Halloween Half on Saturday...and PRd! I've PRd every distance this year, save for the marathon. I have two more opportunities to do that this year - SpaceCoast and Dallas. After watching this video, I may consider trying Pace Pro in either or both races. I thought about it 6wks ago for another Half (which I also PRd), but didn't get around to figuring out how to set it up. We shall see.
    Also, it may just have been the audio quality in the video, but it sounded like Sarah is heavy on her feet (clop clop clop of her footsteps). Each loud footstep is like applying the brakes. Run lighter = run faster.

    Congrats, Sarah! Running on grass ( and undulations) is tough. I train on undulating terrain all the time since I have no choice, but I try to avoid grass because it simply absorbs energy and gives nothing back. I am aiming to go from a 2:30 HM time to 1:52 by May 2022 so that's a big goal for me. I tend to do well by running negative splits so Pace Pro would help with keeping me on track. My current Garmin watch (Forerunner 45) does not have PacePro, alas, so I'd have to keep my paces written down on my arm and check periodically how I'm going. Anyway, well done Sarah!

    Oh - I should have used this for my recent HM - Oxford HM. Met my goal of sub 5m/km HM, but programmed in a pace strategy of progressive splits over 5 miles/5 miles/5km. Or I thought I had - turns out, the first 2 * 5 mile segments, I accidentally programmed as 5 metre segments 🤣 Changed strategy to just stick as near to 4:55 as I can :) I think I would have ditched the intended strategy anyway, due to elevation changes at various parts of the course.

    Great video Sarah, thanks for that! Out of all extra features i have in my Garmin watch, i most appreciate PacePro and Garmin Coach. I used PacePro for my first Half three weeks ago. I trained for 1:48 finish time using Garmin Coach (Greg), set up PacePro accordingly and ... i did it, got my PB at 1:48:40. Greg´s training plan really works me, i like the structure of his workouts... and most important - it delivered the result :)

    Can you use Pace Pro if you're not doing a course as such? So just running 10km but use it to pace a PB? I'll have to go away and read up on it. (Congrats on the pb).

    hwo do you do the pace pro to a specific route and race? Have really a hard time finding that out. I can make a pace pro strategy yes but not like so specific like you show on the video. Also I cannot load a map there...I can create an own map, yes....but I cannot find Garmin instructions for the forerunner on this either...

    I ran a 10K yesterday across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge so this might have been useful. Because the first half is uphill and the second half downhill, it is built for a negative split. That said, I wasn’t trying for a PR, and wanted to enjoy the views a little bit. I did use Finish Time feature on my Garmin to compare with my last in person 10K time, which was helpful. It allowed me to look down occasionally and see what sort of finish time was possible if I pushed a bit.

    Nice work, I see nothing wrong with walking during a race, especially a hilly trail race. I'm running a 30km trail race in 5 weeks, with 2 really big climbs around the middle of the course. I will probably use a run/walk strategy throughout the race, as it is 5 weeks before my goal marathon. Good work.

    Awesome video! Well done you!!! I am going for a PB half marathon tomorrow morning. Conditions look perfect - not an official race, just me out on my own, but since the past year has cancelled many races, I am totally ok with running without the fan fair (although I miss the crowds a lot). I wish my Garmin Vivoactive had the Pace Pro option!

    "If anyone comments below saying how fast a time you could've got if you didn't walk. . ."
    More like imagine how much faster you could've gone if you ran a you ran a half marathon without a trail and didn't have to walk.
    Well done, Sarah! :)

    If you want to smash you PB HM, do interval 10x1km a week before your attempt. Use you 5KM-10KM race pace. For me, its really work for increase stamina. And add more easy run, if me 2-3 time a week easy run. 😄

    I ran my first trail half marathon this weekend. I wanted to do 8 minute miles the whole way but that didn't happen. I ran the first four miles at a 7:30 pace which kind of destroyed my legs because I didn't realize there was major hills coming up. I managed to end up with a one hour and 50 minute time. I think my watch had me at an 8:23 pace but I didn't stop the workout fast enough. On trail runs it's definitely definitely a good idea to use pace pro. I will next time.

    Yay Sarah! I think sub 2 half officially makes you a beast! If you ever find yourself in Western North Carolina running, I think you will find our hills quite a bit more disgusting. Always fun to see what you get up to, great Garmin.

    I like to go by heart rate and feel on these courses. For example, if you know you can go 13 miles when your heartbeat hovers around 150bpm then go with that. It kind of feels liberating.
