I made the mittens and they turned out to be perfect 😍😍😍 Also for the waist coat stitch what I did initially was take a lower size hook and made very loose stitches so that helped me alot, hope it helps the other crocheters out there ❤️
Glad to hear your mittens turned out so well. Thanks for the tip about the waistcoat stitch. Some people find the stitch hard so thank you very much for the tip! 😍
Thank you Pam, amazing tutorial!!! So easy to follow, thanks to you I realized I was doing the waist coat stitch wrong. Love these baby brohm mitts.Thank you for the great close up and personable tutorial.Your awesome and very grateful for your time. Just adorable 😊Brenda
I have been crocheting since I was 3 years old. 43 years of fun. You should have mentioned that the cuff is called ribbing. 2 single crochet rows, make up 1 rib. I do love your tutorials. Just giving you a heads up. For newbies that should be explained to them. I do have a few very cool patterns for baby and toddler mittens I gladly share with you, since I do not make videos. 3 designs are my own not to be shared. I make appliques to be added to the mittens. Just to share a few ideas for future videos.
Thank you very much for your comment. I really appreciate any feedback on how to improve my videos. That is great advice for new crocheters so thank you! Thanks for the offer to share your patterns! I design all of my own patterns and because of that I avoid looking at other patterns as I want to make sure all of my patterns are my original idea but thank you very much for the offer. That is cool that you also design your own patterns. Coming up with the design in my head and then trying to work it out is definitely my favourite part of the entire process. The idea of appliqués is great. I haven’t really tried those yet but definitely a good idea for future videos so thank you! Thanks again for watching. Glad you enjoy the videos.
I loved this tutorial and found it very easy to follow! Been crocheting for around a year so I have a bit more experience. If you’re just starting out I can see why it might be a bit confusing, but NOT due to the way you explained everything. Just because as a beginner you’re still getting your bearings. Where has the waistcoat stitch been all my life?! It’s gorgeous and your tip with the hook 100% worked!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment. I am glad you enjoyed the tutorial. I agree the waistcoat stitch is not a beginner stitch but it looks beautiful.
Also at the end of each single crochet row for a seamless look pull your single crochet 2 both remaining stitches front and back. For closing do use the front stitch on one side and the back stitch on the other side and do a slip stitch. Your cuff will look professional and seamless.
Thank ypu for a lovely pattern. I have one question... when you do the dec in waistcoat stitches, I can't get the decreases placed right. In every row, I end up placing them in the decrease from the previous row, and not right before. How do you get them placed right?
Hello! I have driven through New Brunswick once on the way to PEI but definitely want to get back there to tour around one day, I hear it is beautiful. Thanks for watching!
I hear you! I have a love hate relationship with the waistcoat stitch. For the decrease you can either skip stitches or crochet two together. Whatever you prefer.
Sorry you are having trouble. The chain 1 does not count as a stitch. If your count is off I recommend placing a stitch marker on the first stitch in each row.
For the wristband you start by chaining 17 but then start row 1 in the 2nd chain from the hook so you have 16 stitches in the row. You should have 16 stitches in each of Rows 1-18 of the band. If you only have 10 you have missed some stitches (usually at the end or beginning of the rows). I recommend starting over and using stitch markers to prevent missed stitches. Thanks for watching, hope this helps.
Let me know how it works out. This stitch can be frustrating is you don’t leave your yarn really loose. I also show you a trick in the video for doing this stitch. If you don’t like the waistcoat stitch this pattern can be done using the single crochet. Good luck. Happy Crocheting.
@@woodcampercrochetcrafts thank you I gave it a go earlier but I think I did it too tight so I will have another go, if not I’ll try it just as single crochet thank you 😊
No problem, I have a love hate relationship with the waistcoat stitch. I love the look but find it a harder stitch. The key is definitely keeping the tension loose.
Yes you still start by chaining 17 for the cuff but instead of crocheting 18 rows you crochet 20. Then for rows 1-17 (in the body of the mitten) add an additional stitch at the beginning and end of each row.
@@woodcampercrochetcraftsokay so for the body, you wouldn't just add a stitch to the beginning and end of only row one? You would add to all of them? And what about when you get to row 10 and decrease?
@user-sj4mb8bz2o to all the rows until you get the the decrease. You have two extra stitches in each row so for the decrease rows you do one extra decrease.
I am not sure what happened, but you lost me after switching to SC into a V stitch. Mine looks nothing like what you showed. Basically cut away the mess I had and looking for a better tutorial that isn't so hard.
Sorry to hear that you had a hard time. The waistcoat stitch is definitely not the easiest stitch and can take some time to get the hang of. I have a love hate relationship with this stitch! If you don’t like the waistcoat stitch you do the pattern with a single crochet instead.
If you like I can help you get it done. I told her she needs to change her tutorials and explain them better. I have been crocheting for 43 years and have my own clothing line.
@@MyFloridatropicallife I'm sorry but you're being rude. This creator has taken the time to try to film and share a crochet pattern. You have comments criticising her. This is relieving because I dont think I'm ready for the WC stitch yet either. Knowing it can be done with a Sc and not mess up the pattern is so much stress gone! Im making this set for my bff who is having her first kid and I need to finish!! @woodcampercrochetcrafts
It can be a challenging stitch. The trick is to make sure to keep the tension very loose. You can also do this pattern with just a single crochet instead of the waistcoat stitch. Thanks for reaching out. Hope this helps. 🌲🇨🇦
@@ollys1188 I just measured the mitten and when it is completed and all stitched together the wrist is 2 inches wide, which means 4 inches flat. The mitten at the widest part is 2.5 inches. The total length is 5.5 inches. Hope this helps.
I have a love hate relationship with the waistcoat stitch. I love the look but it can be a difficult stitch. In order not to not hate this stitch you need to keep your tension really lose. You can also substitute the waistcoat stitch for the single crochet. 😍
I can't get past row 10... these dang waist coat stitches are the death of me. Frogged the whole thing and switched to a knit pattern instead. I can't make baby items if I'm cussing this much over a mitten.
I am sorry to hear that. I use to hate this stitch too and did the same thing as you! You need to keep the stitches very loose for the waistcoat stitch, which is hard for people like me that like tight stitches. Did you try the trick I showed in the video? You pull the right side of the V out the the way using your hook to make it easier to get you hook in. You can also do the pattern using a single crochet instead.

I changed to single crochets to ease my mind lol. But When you decrease in stitches are you skipping some? I don’t understand?
I hear you! I have a love hate relationship with the waistcoat stitch. For the decrease you can either skip stitches or crochet two together. Whatever you prefer.
@@woodcampercrochetcrafts in the video you are skipping or stitching together?
In the video I do two together so you could do sc2tog for the decrease stitches.
Does the chain 1 you do for every row count as a stitch? I know we should have 16 but I keep getting 15 if I don’t count that one. Help!

Hello I turn to ask a question. Didn’t we start off by doing 16 single crochet. but when I am on the fifth row I only have 10 chains
