  • Greetings and welcome on Le HexaTrek, le Thru de France!
    In this fourth episode, I tackle the Alps. or maybe the Alps tackle me really. Despite the gorgeous views, and the exceptional kindness of le Chalet de Bise refuge keeper Charlotte, this was a very delicate stage, forcing me to take alternative routes here and there to make it work. Steep slopes, snow, falls, technical passages, the crowd, all those elements gave my first really hardcore difficulties, and doubts.
    But introducing my drawn doppelganger thanks to the amazing work of my sister Fanny Bouïssaguet. Merci La Naine!

    I am no longer part of the HexaTrek team following internal incidents, and I cannot advise you to support the HexaTrek Association the way it is going right now. That being said, the trail itself is amazing as long as you don't follow blindly the lines on the gpx. Use it as a global recommendation, but stick to the GRs as much as possible would be my advice. And enjoy, it's good out there.

    the ride of the valkyries when the helicopter arrived gave me a good laugh :D good that you avoided have your personal apocalypse in this episode. thanks for this one, again!

      Ahah thanks, this was also a debate whether to use such a cliché or not, but as in this episode I'm starting to lose my sanity (and it won't improve before a thousand more kilometres) I figured it made sense somehow. A bit on the nose, but efficient !

    You know, you're extremely refreshing. in a thru hiking world of 'bashing the miles' and 'don't be a pussy' to actually say: 'I turn around, it's meant to be enjoyable'. Soooo nice to hear. 😊😊

      Well thank you, it was an internal debate to show this or not, but I wanted to showcase what you should be in the mountains: responsible. This is one of the first rule there : know when not to go, it's not dangerous per say but it can be, and you have to be responsible, and there's no shame in turning back if you don't feel it. Especially a message for more beginners who tend to follow the path no matter what, lacking of experience to understand when they shouldn't just obey the direction. The joys of redirecting and adapting!

      @cartapouille absolutely true. We have experienced a different attitude on the PCT in a high snow year in the Sierras. People who turned around or chose alternates sadly were 'no PCT hikers' or had 'cheated and can't call themselves thru hikers'. if you are new to a hike, audience and attitude like that it is easy to believe what you get told and then go where you dont feel comfy. Yes..those decisions on the trails are not easy and it's just lovely to see an approach like yours. :):)

      @@anneofbasswoodgrove6626 I dislike gatekeeping what is "real" or not, I don't get people dealing in absolute "every kilometer with every kilo or you cheated" mentality. It seems so... arbitrary? We are all here on holidays, not passing a test, let's chill and enjoy, and most importantly, not DIE. That's the insane part. I always remind everybody going on the trail : the trace is not a religion, use it, abuse it, cheat it, it doesn't matter. Some parts are dangerous, some are boring, you don't HAVE to do every cm with your whole gear to be "true". I personally validate anybody who hiked close enough for long enough, screw absolutisms. We're in France, a country where the only rigid rule is the "apéro".

    I just love hiking in the alps even though I'm cursing half of the time. It's so challenging and at the same time so rewarding. Thanks for sharing those bad days as well. We all have them, they are part of our treks.

      "The highs are very high, the lows are very low" as said my favorite trail angel couple! But yeah it's a different pace that's for sure, although not all of the Alps are that hard. But they can very much be! Thanks friendly bird!

    Bravo. J'adore. Magnifique musique d'intro et de fin. Tu as bien rendu la difficulté que l'on peut rencontrer dans les Alpes, après avoir traversé les Vosges et le Jura. Tu as bien fait de tenir bon !

    I may be sitting here with my bum ankle aching after no more than 3.5 km on flat terrain, but maaaaaan do I want to hike in those beautiful mountains 😍. One day... And then I'd like to avoid those rock fields you had coming up. They're always such a hassle! Thanks for another great video - I really appreciate the day count and the Cartapouille avatar scenes are really helpful and illustrative!

    Wow you were so lucky with that slide down the snow field! Slipping on those is one of my biggest fear because that can end badly very quickly. So I'm glad you landed at the bottom with mere scratches because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to enjoy your videos!

    • @cartapouille
      @cartapouille  Рік тому +3

      I really was lucky yeah, which is not great to realize afterwards, especially as I physically couldn't do anything against the slide with my gear. I'm glad I landed too, and then right after I thought "jeez that's lucky, or I wouldn't be capable of editing a video that Dorothea needs! " :D
