In this video I give you my top six tips to help you improve your listening skills in English. These are all things that you can do for free, and you can actually apply these principles to any language you're learning. There are lots of different ways to improve your listening, but I feel that these are generally the most effective.
These tips may help you if you are preparing for an exam like the IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or CAE.

Hello! Thanks for your interesting videos! I'm French and I had lived in UK for 12 years. I moved back to France. I listen to BBC 5 radio everyday when I do my housework, watch interviews of rock bands and documentaries to mainain my English.

I've noticed that my listening comprehension has improved little by little so I think that constancy is key for us if we really want to improve our listening skills. Hello Max, I like the way you teach , my first language is Spanish but I love English as well, because you are learning Spanish and I heard you find it difficult don't worry it takes time but we need clues and I would like to give you this one : Spanish has five vowel and each sound the same everywhere you find them, so this is the tip a( as in bad) e(as in bed) I(as in tip) o(as in dot) and u(as in good) consonants are much the same as the English ones and because I have been learning English for a long time I give you my last tip READ ALOUD.

That’s what I’m focusing on the most. That is focusing on spoken English,on comprehension rather than on writing or on knowing lots and lots of phrasal verbs. If I’m able to understand,at least 50% or 60% or even much more,then I’m doing a great job. And especially,I try to choose a topic and learn its vocabulary and its verbs used. For example: on driving,at the hotel,and so on. I appreciate your tips,I’ve always something new to be learning !!

Actually I am listening the videos most of the time I drive. I've read an article that was saying long-distance driver should always listen e books etc, otherwise they may have mentally retardment

Thank you max, for your helpful tips. I tried many times to practice English listening when I'm asleep, I mean before going to bed I play a podcast or even an English video. But to be honest I don't know if it works or not! Instead, I'm sure it sometimes ruins my sleep! I hope it'll have some benefits to worth to do.

Listening to different accents is really important in languages with a wide range of accents, as in English, Spanish, etc. When you listen to different accents, you can understand where the pronunciation of the language is emphasized. E.g. Many English learners are very concerned with the sound of the r, mainly with the American accent, but they are not concerned with other more important aspects of the language, such as stressed time, long vowels, etc. Most important aspects of the language that make all native speakers of a language understand each other. Not even the "American r" is pronounced everywhere. English emphasizes its consonants more than its vowels, so its vowels between different accents vary more than its consonants (the r is a semi-vowel sound). The opposite of Spanish, a language totally focused on vowels. Spanish always maintains its vowels and they are essential in all its varieties, while it changes in the pronunciation of some consonants. If you listen to different accents, you can pick up its similarities and where you should emphasize. Having an accent is not really important if you have a good pronunciation. An English speaker will understand better a well pronounced stressed time person than a good "r maker" who doesn't understand how the language is actually pronounced.

What I usually do to improve my listening in English is listen to videos of short series in English and I also watch peppa pig on UA-cam because it's a very simple language and easy to understand as it's a children's video.
