Nice video, drove here 2 years ago, during heavy construction. The speed limit was 60 on almost all of the motorway, with no overtaking possibility. They modernized the whole motorway at once, a very good approach, instead of doing the works section by section, with a duration of 10+ years. Thanks for the video, greetings from a road tripper from Germany!

Thanks for sharing, great news the A18 is finally done. I drove once on the old A18 from west to east. It was by far the worst motorway experience I ever had in Europe. On the old A18 was not only the 1930’s concrete, but also a crumbling top layer of asphalt, totally broken by years of passing trucks. You could only do about 70 km/h on the left lane. The right lane was just too bad for cars. The 70 km A18 was because of that too bloody long, so after that experience only Magdeburg - Dresden - Breslau.

But some of the German side of it is still 100 kph, Straßenschäden up to Cottbus

@@SnabbKassa Do you agree that it might take years to repair? I would say that parts of the German infrastructure suffer from years of too little maintenance. Something which cannot be solved in a matter of a year or two.

A very long time ago I and my parents drove the eastbound carriageway with its 1930s concrete and it was always the worst experience. We needed over 1,5 hour to get through. It was the time the A4 between Görlitz and Krzyzowa interchange wasn't built yet.

A4 which you drive onto at the end of the video isn't up to current motorway standards between the Krzyzowa and Wroclaw, since it's still the same motorway from the 1930's, just with a renewed surface. However, there are plans to upgrade this section in the near future, with 3 lanes and a hard shoulder in each direction, as well as properly rebuilding the interchanges, and building rest areas.

This number of animal crossings is necessitated by EU restrictions, which delayed this investment, requiring more crossings on this section than originally planned. But what's important is that it's finally here after so many years.

It makes sense though, considering that most of the section goes through densely forested land. An infrastructure like this causes a massive disruption to the wildlife, acting as an impenetrable barrier, and those crossings are the only way to make sure that the local fauna doesn't suffer irreparable damage.
And, from a driver's perspective, it drastically reduces the chances of big animals crossing the roads, which is also very important for traffic safety.

In India also taking care of wildlife, one of the biggest elevated corridors is 12 km long over the woods.

Assam is planning a 34 kilometer elevated road through a national park, to avoid impact on wildlife.

Thanks for making this. The limit is now 140 except where it says 110? I don't see any signs that show the end of the 110 section?

Żary and Żagań were pretty significant during the communism. This is where Soviets kept their nuclear weapons in Poland

Te barierki z drutu jak na początku filmu to jakieś kompletne nieporozumienie. Takie są też na S6 w okolicach Koszalina, nie wyobrażam sobie co się stanie z motocyklistą, który w to wpadnie.

Droga świetna - oznakowania nieczytelne i nieprofesjonalne. Dziwić się jedynie można, że decydenci w GDDKiA z takim uporem od lat lansują rozwiązania rodem z komuny.

2:04 technically you could say French exits are sometimes signed even 30 kms in advance, since they are announced as soon as you pass the previous exit ;)
