- The oriental alternative to the French and Italian hot hatches was the not-so-ugly duckling called the Swift GTi 1300. Few ones were saved from being plundered by off-roaders who swapped the handsome TwinCam engine for their off-road Samurais, including this one, owned by a lady with the help of a sled and plenty of foliage.

The only car that I bought from new. Great fun with an awesome engine for 1300cc. 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds and only 1 gearchange! Group N class winner in UK racing. Not the greatest handling- understeer could be terminal but could blow away Fiesta XR2i's at traffic lights. I now have a Fiat Panda 100hp - a sort of spiritual successor. I am 64 years old......

L'aveva blu scuro un ragazzo della mia compagnia. Era bellissima e tenuta come un gioiello. Che bella macchina! A me toccò una Corsa GSI con cui mi divertii parecchio ma la Swift mi è rimasta come voglia. Adoravo sentirla urlare con il Supersprint! Che tempi e quante avventure. Tutti in piazza con le piccole bare dei primi anni 00!
The Swift GTi was my first car i got at 19. I had so much fun with that car, brings back so much memories. I beat the living sh*t out of it every day and in two years it never once broke down and it was already 25 years old when i got it. I now have an e36 325i coupe but the Swift was even more fun that the bmw.

@@suckerfreeman sulla capacità di gestione di un campionato probabilmente potrebbe anche essere così ma come capacità di guida e di superare i limiti non ci sono paragoni non a caso Enzo Ferrari lo paragonò a Nuvolari. Poi in formula uno spesso nella storia ci entrano non i più vincenti ma i più grandi e questo è uno di questi casi.
Schumacher per esempio ha vinto più di Senna ma credo che il brasiliano sia entrato nella leggenda a differenza del tedesco e lo stesso vale per Pironi e villeneuve

Είχα πάρει καινούργιο ένα ίδιο το 1996 ήμουν 19 χρόνων εδώ στην Ελλάδα τότε γινόταν χαμός με κόντρες τα βράδια σε διάφορους δρόμους ήταν ένας δυνατός παίχτης το Swift είχα κερδίσει αρκετούς αντιπάλους το είχα πειράξει με φτιάξιμο στο καπάκι, χταπόδι από μπρος μέχρι πίσω με αγωνιστικό καταλυτη και τότε πρόγραμμα της bbr είχε φτάσει γύρω στα 140 άλογα και πυροβολαγε αρκετά δυνατό, πολύ καλές αναμνήσεις μετά από αυτό είχα mazda mx-5 1.8, Rx-8,και τώρα ένα 911 carrera και για καθημερινό ένα ford fiesta 1000 ecoboost 146 άλογα

I had one of these 20 years ago - it was a screamer alright! Black with racing springs roll cage etc it had been built to do track days and was road registered here in New Zealand. One of my favourite cars I’ve owned. Davide, I now have a 2wd 1988 Ford RS Cosworth Mercury Grey just like yours! But right hand drive of course 330bhp - it is my baby! I had one of the 8valve SOHC carburetor models of this car when I was young. The 8valve had no tachometer and no rev limiter so my excuse was to keep revving til it stopped sucking in air and then shift. 115km/h in 2nd gear I think was my record. Car went on to a friend to win Khanacross championships. You have brought back many fond memories

My parents once owned a Suzuki Swift 1.0 GL. I fell in love with the thing and always wanted a GTi, but they were really, really hard to get, so I gave up on that dream. Now I see this video and my heart starts pumping again. These cars are just superb!

When I watch these videos I always think of the Suzuki Swift I had with no power steering. It was SO quick and handled the curves like they wanted it. The only thing I ever did to it was change the muffler Haha- thanks Davide!
Suzuki today in 2022 still construct this kind of cars and think remains one of the last ones constructing such little bombs - sound wise this one is top class, had the ZC32S it also reved up, now run the 1.4T stage3 + Torsen

Siempre me gustó ésta carrocería del Suzuki Swift. Recuerdo que cuando trabajé con un tío como ayudante de mecánico, un cliente nos llevó un Swift GTi para hacerle mantenimiento. Lo manejé y, siendo honesto, no me gustó por lo siguiente: el sistema de escape era demasiado ruidoso, por lo que era difícil tener una conversación con los pasajeros sin tener que gritar. El forro del timón o volante de dirección se estaba desintegrando al punto de verse el metal del aro en algunas partes. La suspensión era demasiado dura para andar en la calle, era incómoda, brincaba mucho, casi que no filtraba ninguna irregularidad del camino. Y era usado a diario. Bajarse del carro era un alivio. Pero éso era mi percepción de ése carro en particular. No tuve la oportunidad de manejar otro para comparar.
Acá en El Salvador fue un carro muy preparado para 1/4 de milla, circuito, etc. Le instalaban turbo, lo cual lo hacía un demonio para correr debido a su peso liviano.
Hoy en día es difícil encontrar uno en buen estado, a parte que ya hay escasez de repuestos.
Volviendo al Swift GTi del vídeo, me parece muy buen trabajo el que hicieron.
Me suscribí al canal cuando Davide hizo una reseña de mi carro favorito: "Alfa Romeo gtv6".

I really had them all. Started with an 1.0 3 cylinder (which I loved) after that a 1.3GS and than the GTI. They were dirt cheap in the early 2000s.
Wonderful to see it rescued from that hedge and brought back to track worthy condition. It's so adorable and the engine sounds badass. They were a rare sight here - people usually bought the regular model out of frugality.

mamma mia che ricordi, l ho acquistata nuova nel 93, una bomba di macchina e che soddisfazioni mi sono tolto con chi non conosceva questa "macchinetta"! quasi 180 km orari con la terza marcia!! l ho tenuta 10 anni circa poi l ho venduta. UNICA

In Argentina this car was very popular. There was one around the block, we were with dad hanging in the corner, it went by and he said... "That car is fast as hell, look at how many valves the engine has, it could be on a 4x4". I never forgot, the engine was indeed fantastic and indestructible. Future classic, if you can buy one i'd suggest you to.
So true. My buddy had one not so long ago, it could keep up with an NSR150RR which was quick aswell.

I used to own two of these Swift GTi's. A 1991 and a 1996. The 1991 sadly suffered badly with rust on the underside. The 1996 I sold and was written off. They're fantastic cars and were very underrated. Mine had a chipped ecu, Janspeed four branch manifold, Magnex full exhaust system, decatted.
I moved onto Hondas next with an EG9 Civic VTi and a DC2 Integra Type R.
The Swift GTi will always have a special place in my heart. A lot of people did not believe it was 'just a 1.3'. They thought it had a bigger engine in it.

After I see this video I just realize this car was the old version of Swift, here in Indonesia it called Suzuki Amenity, the 2 door version was very rare and the engine wasn't as good like europe market until the real Swift enter the market in 2006. I don't understand Italian but with the subs really helping others who don't understand the language, the rebuild process was so exciting and make me keep watching until finished. Keep the good work!

確かに日本でもほとんど見かける事はなく、ごく稀に廉価モデルの1000ccの5ドアを見かけるくらいになってしまいました。
輸出仕様は初代カルタスの頃からスイフト名義だったと記憶しています。

Avuta per due anni nel 94 ! Che ricordi ! Zero freni e assetto ma un allungo da cinema . Il cambio si impuntava . Consumava nulla e nessun prob . Dopo 100 mila km le candele erano ancora nuove . Incredibile . Peccato non abbiano più fatto questo motore . Mai saputo il motivo
Hanno un 1.2 con la stessa potenza, ma senza bisogno di allungare così in alto. Non è male
