I doubt it. Rob brought the 4 rotor only tacked welded together to prove proof of concept, all people have to do is look at the history of the car and the time frame it was worked on before it got to SEMA. SEMA is for pure enthusiasts and they would respect the work and effort in the time allotted. No shame in his game.
Yep. I repaired a spot on my trunk lid before wrapping, finished it with primer. It stuck notably worse to the primer. It is still firmly attached in that spot after 2 years though but I post heated everything, especially that spot.
@InfinityGraphist agreed I've sanded down primer to wrap over and it sticks no problem. where i fucked up is i used cheap ass primer and when i unwrapped the vinyl a year later the vinyl took a shit ton of primer along with it lol
Blake, widebody doesnt cover the INSIDE of the car. That gap is where the factory inner wheel well is. you know how when you look up in there on a car and see the pinch weld where two panels meet? One comes from the inner skin, and the other is the outer skin. This car only has an outer skin now, so that metal that covers it, is gone. It'll more than likely get filled in, cause im sure chris doesnt want to climb in the trunk every night and dig out rocks.
Mizino: In Over My Head. well the door that will be under the hatch will cover that. looking into the car you wont see it. I assume this car wont be driven much before sema so im certain that it’s a low priority to fix right now since it doesn’t hinder the car visually or performance wise.
How would it cover the inside...? But no, pretty much every car has a gap to the outside like that. Sometimes there are panels that just get screwed in to cover that. And the inner wheel well metal covers that from factory, connects the inner and outer skin and seals it, but since it was all cut out there is nothing there.
Lie? A real job? You think what he does isn't hard? Holy shit it's hard, sure he gets to do what he enjoys by building cars and doing dumb shit, but the logistics around it are a job within themselves. If you have an issue with the free content, move along man.
Not to mention he has to be an video editor, do marketing, do the work of a mechanic and body shop guy, and be a host. Chris has to do several jobs very well to achieve success. He left app development to work his ass of even harder
Now the wrap is a good idea but i do vehicle wraps for a living and sometimes it pulls the paint off. Now thats not the problem the problem is when we get the panel repainted you general have to wait a few days to allow the paint and or primer to full cure and gas out or it will cause a ton of bubbles in the wrap. Just a heads up. To help figure a time frame to wrap it.
Please NEVER get rid of this car, its crazy to see how far its come and I can't wait to see the fully finished problem! This really did come together really nice, glad to see all your planing payed off.
Wow this legitimatize became a car again in the last couple days. Gotta say that I really doubted you at the start of this build buy you are pulling it off pretty damn well. Truly an inspiration to any DIY people.
Good tip for a good seam sealer finish is to mask either side of the weld you want sealing, put seem sealer on, use a putty knife/metal spreader dip it in acetone then run over the top then remove the tape. Nice and neat 👍
I’m not gonna lie, I wait for these notifications to pop up. When I watch the video i think you stayed true to your channel, then I think what a majestic f****ng beast you guys built. Well done sir!
I read a comment last video that highly recommended you seem seal the underside of the car as much as possible , I haven't had the experience but I domt doubt thatll be important too give it a thought
Definitely my favorite build I’ve watched progress on UA-cam. Was not sure about how this was going to turn out but man you and your team is doing great.
Chris man, been following since your beginning. Always look forward to chill time after work to watch my few subs love watching anyone of your builds. Your so real bro and that is rare in entertainment these days! Don’t lose your awesomeness big guy. Cheers 🍻 coming along awesome
Hey Chris, thanks for taking us along for the ride on this build despite all the negative comments during the initial phases of it. Most people would have just done it and thrown it in the faces of the naysayers afterwards. Anyways, keep up the good work. Your ass busting is appreciated!
Amazing as always ! Getting there ! Would have been amazing to do a full Alcantara Interior, around the transmission tunnel etc with the exposed roll cage. Could also be a clean material that will allow you to hide the imperfections of the dashboard.
He said the g35 was too dangerous because after the crash, traction control basically got disabled until he changed some electronic stuff. So it was kinda sketchy in the rain. This car will probably have traction control, and he won't drive in the rain, or at least not as stupidly has he did with the g35.
I'm down with wrapping the car. Makes a lot more sense, time-wise. Plus, the end result is almost guaranteed to be show-worthy. Not to speak ill of your paint/body work, you definitely do some great work when you really apply yourself. But great work takes a lot of time, which you obviously don't have. So vinyl wrapping is definitely the right way to go for now.
100% don't know the answer but shouldn't sealant be added to the outside of the joints to protect integrity since that's the side that will be most exposed to the elements??
Nah screw bmw colours, the core is bmw, exterior should be datsun. Nonetheless though the car is blatantly going to be some neutral colour (Grey/Black/White maybe....) but I hope not.
2 suggestions. 1 - you might want to tie the two rear strut towers together or better yet, into the roll bar. There's not much support for the forces pushing the top of the strut towards the center of the car. Second, you'll want dynamat or something on the big sheet panels of the floor, you're sitting inside a big calypso drum. Otherwise the car is going to drone alot.
Nice progress Chris, i recommend you to use noise reduce gum plates over the wheels at least, otherwise you will dont even hear the engine in higher speed...;) also dont forget about place compressor for your suspension ;) hold you fingers
I think I would let you know that you need to put a sealer on the primer as it will allow moisture and and so will the vinyl wrap dust will cause everything to rust underneath the primer..... the other option you can do would be to finish it the way you need to with a sealer primer setup and vinyl wrap it with a rusted look that way it's the rat rod look done vinyl that would be game changer
Is it me or did anyone else notice that rear passenger side spot on the interior where you can see the tire from the inside? Did y'all forget that piece? lol By the battery box on the right side of the wheel well
Hey Chris! Just an idea, but wouldn't it be better to have your fuel cell right behind your seats, behind the wall that you want to build. And just build a filler neck for easier fill-ups. This way you would have a whole trunck for some other stuff, like a suitcase))
What's going in the area between the wheel wells in the box? Wires as well? Or is that what you meany by the air suspension stuff? If not you could turn it into a cubby so you can store bags and whatever in there. Just make a hinging door that's accessible from the cab.
Wow, a day to body work, prime, block, prime , blocked primed water sanded masked...wow thats crazy work been doing autobody and paint for 25 yrars and i cant even get one panel ready in one day
That was some real lawyer shit right there, Chris. But I’m personally glad this car isn’t getting the rat rod treatment.
idk, i think he realized how bad it would reflect on him going to SEMA with an unfinished car.
you ever see the chuckles garage diesel truck? that thing looks badass while having patina
I doubt it. Rob brought the 4 rotor only tacked welded together to prove proof of concept, all people have to do is look at the history of the car and the time frame it was worked on before it got to SEMA. half-assing is half-assing, once you grow older you start to understand why quality over quantity is better..
SEMA is 99% dumpster fires vehicles don't even have to run
Just to give you heads up... wrapping over Primer isn't going to stick very well to your surfaces...don't say i didn't warn ya $0.02 =)
Truth. I've unfortunately learned this from experience. The wrap needs a smooth surface (ideally clear coat) to adhere to.
Rob Dahms 4 rotor was wrapped over primer... and it’s still sticking to the car.
Clear coat the primer. Problem. Solved.
I like the new style of a "faster storytelling" a lot!
Anyone else notice that you can still see the rear tires from the inside of the car? such as at 15:46?
Yeah, but they're gonna line both sides.
Thats an awful big gap to fill in
Blake, widebody doesnt cover the INSIDE of the car. That gap is where the factory inner wheel well is. you know how when you look up in there on a car and see the pinch weld where two panels meet? Yea that is bugging me too, gonna get all kinds of shit in the cabin... don’t do any burnouts all the smoke will fill the cabin instantly
Missed a panel - You can still see the pass rear tire from inside the trunk
I said the same thing but i thinl thats where the wide bod kit covers
How would it cover the inside...?
But no, pretty much every car has a gap to the outside like that. Sometimes there are panels that just get screwed in to cover that. And the inner wheel well metal covers that from factory, connects the inner and outer skin and seals it, but since it was all cut out there is nothing there.
No car I have ever owned has a gap in the wheel well to the outside other than rubber drain grommets. That includes a 1964 Hillman..

That's why he's painting now
You should have put grooves into the floor pans to make it more ridged and not flex under pressure
Yeah....
No beadroller tho
@@kirkarvint.2017 they aren't crazy expensive for the vise mounted ones

This is by far my favorite build from your channel, and amongst the top favorites of any channel or tv series. Keep it up
Shouldn't you be seamsealing from the bottom of the car aswell?
Yes, it's the right way to do it but why get into details at this point?
Need a rotisserie
Discovered your channel yesterday and watched the entire build so far over these 2 days. Absolutely loving it, can't wait to see more!
Woo, glad its still getting painted :D even if its not fully. Absolutely rippin' it on the build right now. All those welds, amazing
I'm glad you're not rat rodding this car. You put way too much effort to just make it a rat rod.
Good tip for a good seam sealer finish is to mask either side of the weld you want sealing, put seem sealer on, use a putty knife/metal spreader dip it in acetone then run over the top then remove the tape. Nice and neat 👍

You honestly have some of the most interesting builds right with motionauto. While keeping everything real.
I read a comment last video that highly recommended you seem seal the underside of the car as much as possible , I haven't had the experience but I domt doubt thatll be important too give it a thought
Eric is an artist with metal and a welder. I wish my fabrication came out that clean.
I'm getting excited too the floor looks great I can't wait to see the car wrapped.
The BMW OEM colour ‘fashion grey’ would suit the 240z
It's super popular atm. IMO Hera Mica blue from BMW would look good on this. Also blue is dominant color on BMW and Datsun badges. ;)
Yes, I agree. Any BMW factory colour would really suit the build.
That BMW blue is gorgeous....I think it would look great on the Z
Did you already comment it on another vid or was it someone else ?
With the signature bmw color strips on the front grille!!
Definitely my favorite build I’ve watched progress on UA-cam. Was not sure about how this was going to turn out but man you and your team is doing great.

Says G35 is too dangerous...
Builds a 500 hp 2000lb car...
more importantly, buys a 370z which is the same car essentially as the g35
He said the g35 was too dangerous because after the crash, traction control basically got disabled until he changed some electronic stuff. So it was kinda sketchy in the rain. This car will probably have traction control, and he won't drive in the rain, or at least not as stupidly has he did with the g35.
I reckon it'll weigh about 1 tonne if not slightly over
its definitely over 2k pounds
Probably around 3000lbs
Chris passenger side rear tire by the wheel well. You can see the tire from the inside but great build can't wait to see the wrap you put down.
This is so great to see how far this car has came great work guys
So glad it’s getting wrapped !! You don’t have time for a show paint job. Wrap will be a good compromise!
A lexan window looking down into the rear diff from the trunk would be cool. Tuck a couple LEDs to highlight the m5 subframe would be dope.
The interior transformation itself is insane. Loving this content 🔥
Chris, love the work. The comment section is getting toxic but idc, people don't understand the BIFB way. Keep it up man!
soooo satisfying watching this all come together, congrats Chris and team on your hardwork and dedication !!
The spot weld and metal look is so cool and would be cool on the exterior of the car
The build is progressing insanely fast! Cant wait to see it running. Very inspiring!
Instantly liked this video, loving the progression!
Great idea on the wrap. Im really happy with this build as i saw all the work from beginning. :)
I glad you’re wrapping it
Eric's work is CLEAN!
put a ring on that redhead, please.
He should get a prenup before he does that
@@datalorian meh comments aren't that bad

I'll be at SEMA inspecting EVERY inch of this thing!!!! Really though, can't wait to see it! Such an insane amount of labor.
Absolutely!
Nice..let me watch this before sleep
Dude this car build has come a long way in such a small amount of time and its awesome! Keep it up!
Looks like the rear quarters need to be welded up where the fender flares were cut off and then it will be ready for paint. Looks great Chris.
I think it looks pretty darn good, a few buddies you and your sweetheart fabbing a car from scratch ,awesome
Thank you for deciding to give it a color.
Hope you are considering making sure there are vents to the outside. Going to need that when closing doors and the hatch.
If you can paint match the blue from the Datsun into the wrap. That'd be SWEET.
I feel like a bmw colour of some kind would be cool.
Black cherry wrap would be so good imo...
Nah screw bmw colours, the core is bmw, exterior should be datsun. Nonetheless though the car is blatantly going to be some neutral colour (Grey/Black/White maybe....) but I hope not.
I don’t know bout y’all, but I’m hyped af!! I want to see how it turns out.
i fucking looooove this channel, i wait a week and save up videos so i can binge hahaha
So glad you're going to wrap it!
A Rat-rod classic truck build would be awesome!
Eric is one badass metal worker welder, its coming together
Hey Chris, I grabbed a hat out of the store, thanks for the awesome videos!
Thats a pretty perfect job of prepping those panels for paint
That interior is absolutely gorgeous 😍😍😍

Right off the start he breaks my heart.
Paint?! Ahhhh looks cool like it is!
But hey it’s your car bro it will be badass either way.
Car wouldn't float with the hole you have in the passenger rear quarter panel. Is Erik going to still be filling that in?
I was wondering the same thing
Nice progress Chris, i recommend you to use noise reduce gum plates over the wheels at least, otherwise you will dont even hear the engine in higher speed...;) also dont forget about place compressor for your suspension ;) hold you fingers
Fair choice when it comes to the paint
The time lapses are the way to go. Gives us a better look at the progress being made.
It looks AWESOME !!!!!! So excited to see this finished 👏🏻👏🏻
Hahahaha!! Nice work around with the paint job issue. Great job pushing through to get the build finished!! Keep being awesome!!
I love the different panels paint history. Automotive archaeology as the boys from MCM say
YOU GUYS ARE KILLIN IT!!!!! ITS LOOKING SO DAMN GOOD!!!!!!
Your videos are amazing!
I love the wrap decision!
Awesome work Chealz!
Can't wait to see it finished
Awesome build 🔥🔥🔥 can’t wait for sema
Really hoping I can make it to SEMA and see this build in person. I'm over in NC so I miss all the events you do. Hopefully I will see you there
Yup. I was there last year.
Maybe some sound insulation would be a good idea... Those metal panels will resonate sound really well even if they are covered in carpet.

Can’t wait until it’s done.
If your spray the inside of your panels with the truck bed liner you will have some added protection on the inside on it
watching this gets me so inspired to finish my car
With that seam sealer on, it looks like something out of Borderlands.
real question is how will you wrap the cowl? theres so many dam rectangle holes.
the top of the chassis you laid the floor pans onto looked like bare steel will it not rust over time
I believe it's actually aluminum and he said at the beginning that he'll be priming everything, that protects from rust
Chill, the dude asked a question.
kuppajava McGuillicutty You’re crazy, dude
@@someonedifferent6374 priming attracts moisture iirc. Not a good idea
not priming. he said he will use LineX coating or Rhino or something...
Is it me or did anyone else notice that rear passenger side spot on the interior where you can see the tire from the inside? Did y'all forget that piece? lol By the battery box on the right side of the wheel well
I thought you would have used the masking tape method with the seam sealer. I've seen it done that way and comes out super clean
Stoked about the progress, it's looking great! Seems like You guys could use a sandblaster.
Leggggittttttt! Well done so far! Looks Great!!

its weird you have under 500k subs

Wow, a day to body work, prime, block, prime , blocked primed water sanded masked...wow thats crazy work been doing autobody and paint for 25 yrars and i cant even get one panel ready in one day
