SAAB? SAAB IN YOUR HANDS??? SAAAAAAAAAB?? ITS A PERFECT MATCH FOR YOU DUDE. ITS GONNA BE A CANDY IN THE END. DAAAAMN CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU`RE GONNA DO WITH IT.
You must be careful with rear brakes. First you must release hand brakes by unscrewing hidden bolts under corcs from inside. They are regulates automatically. Good luck. I am driving SAAB 900 over 30 years. Now I have three ones. One of them real SPG
I loved my 900. Can’t wait to see if you can bring it back. I’m scared by all that rust. I would love to see you start from a bit more solid base. Congratulations on 100k
For a DIY-er cars like these are better than a pristine one because you don't have to worry about ruining a perfectly good car. This gives you the freedom to try things that you wouldn't try otherwise on a car that hold more value. And by exploring your imagination and applying it to this car you might end up with a pretty cool build. This is what i learned when i bought my clapped out SAAB 9-3. It was rusty and the paint is terrible but that lack of care gave me the freedom to express myself and experiment on the car. I learned to weld on it, i learned to do bodywork on it, and soon i'll try repainting the entire car in my (soon to be) new garage. The inherent lack of value in the car gives me the freedom to be myself and i hope you find that sort of freedom in this car also.
Absolute legend! Got a ‘93 900 Classic as well and really looking forward to this serie! About the rust: Klokkerholm makes direct inserts for the rear fenders and the front frame rails. The fender is a bit of a difficulty unless you go with just a fixerupper by welding in some new arches pieces. Look for holes in the spare wheel housing as well. Good luck! These are fine engines and the non-turbo will probably outlive you.
The easiest way to recognize a B202 (2.0 liter) from a B212 (2.1 liter) is from the intake manifold. The 2.1 has thicker inlets. Looking at this one, I think it's a regular 2.0 liter. There are also special 2.1 16 valve badges, but I'm not sure if those were mounted on all years.
This is going to be great to follow. 900s are great cars, very Saabish! Its looks like you got a 91, be aware when you are searching for the center console around the key that you need one from 91-93 (or 94 cab) because the 91s got seats from 9000 so the console is slimmer. And when it came to the engine you find the number on the engine block near the termostat house. You can also check the VIN for wich engine the car original had, digit 8 in VIN will say D for the 2.0i and E for the 2.1i. And if I remember right there is some changes when it came to ECUs and wiring because Saab changed the throtlepotentiometer and AIC-valve. B212 have Bosch LH2.4.2 and the late B202s have LH 2.4.
4:50 damn 120€ for a day is quite a lot if you ask me. I remember renting a trailer for a day to haul a car some 200km home and it cost me 15€. And it was a well kept, dual axle trailer with a manual winch.
Very wise that you have opted to wait for the paperwork situation to get sorted. You definitely don’t want to pour money into a car you can’t register. That is the very definition of a money pit. Really liked the idea of this project, looks like there is going to be a lot of body work is this series!
The 99 is my personal favourite. I had a 1984 99GL 4-door until about 2006. Kind of wish I had kept it but I’ll enjoy seeing its sister the 900 being reborn. I have a bit of a love hate thing with the 900 but I like the brand, along with BMW and some VWs, so you know why I like your channel! My dream would be a 99 turbo. Congrats on 100k. Will be watching - wheel arches were always a Saab weak spot! Gonna be fun!
On that brake caliper; there’s a little 6 point 14mm bolt that covers an allan bolt that you use to retract the piston. Don’t try to push or turn it in! When reinstalling you use that same allan bolt to set the handbrake
Oh yeah roadtrip to Sweden, what a good idea ! There's the Saab Museum over there, I really want to go over there with my Saab, that would be so epic 😁
I absolutely love these 900’s! Got to be one of my favourite cars, can’t wait to see the progress on her and is so good to see another one being put back on the road!
4:44 A Luis Simões truck is on the oncoming lane, i feel so refreshed seeing companies from my country (portugal) appearing in videos of other countries!!!!!
What a project! I can hear (from your accent) that you probably speak Dutch, if I may assume! Good luck! If you need any help, feel free to reach out (let me know how)! We have a group that perhaps is keen to help, young (30-ish and below) here and we all live in The Netherlands! This is by the way the first video (probably due to my interest in cars, and especially Saab) that I see from your channel. Nice garage build too!
Being a Saab owner, I honestly guessed that you will start Saab project one day :D Looking forward to continuing work on this 900! Greetings from Ukraine!
I'm David from California, been watching your videos for a long time and have really enjoyed it. Love your content. The new addition of the SAAB will be a challenge but I am sure you will transform it to be a nice ride. Cant wait to see the transformation. I've been working on a old classic myself, it's a 1959 Hillman Minx Special Saloon. Congrats on reaching 100k. Take care
Awesome, always hoped you will rescue a Saab one time :) So excited to see and follow. You will need some faith, given the condition of this one :) The driveshaft tunnel of the body at 18:58 is one of the most common 900 problem-body-parts in countries with salty winters, but as its a "typical" problem for the 900, there are luckly enough repair panels available at Saab specialized parts dealers! But to be fair, it's quite some work to do :)
Hello from the United States. My local junkyard recently got a 1988 Saab SPG that is Edwardian Grey in color with Buffalo grey interior which is in about the same condition as yours. Unfortunately when our local junkyard receives vehicles there is absolutely zero chance of saving it. I'm restoring my 1988 Saab c900 turbo vert manual. My car sat garaged for many years and needed complete clutch replacement, slave cylinder, flywheel resurfacing, rear main seal, Idle air control valve, thermostat, coolant hoses, rack and pinion rebuild, motor mounts, new tires, headlight restoration, power steering pump rebuild, etc. Stay with it and you can make it happen. These b202 engines are very robust and last many years.
I had three of these, back in the day, including turbo. The gearbox was the weak point. The reverse fork would break and the bearings and sync rings would wear very quickly. Lovely cars.
Congrats on reaching 100k subs Memphis, and rightly deserved if you ask me! This was one of your best episodes yet - really high quality, informative, entertaining, and just a really great video all round! Cannot wait to see how this Saab 900 Classic progresses!
Funny things happen in life. I am doing a 900 revival project too. Exactly as you said, I did not know too much about this brand, but a friend of mine is a big saab lover. And I tried it, drove it, and now I like them too. Ours is a less desirable one. The never model. And much less work needed. I get inspiration and good ideas from your videos. Thanks
The first time I ever saw a Saab was back in 1989 I started a new job at VW, Mazda, & Saab dealer. When I first glanced on a Saab I feel in love, back then and now I wish I owned one.
Also, rear calipers are wind in calipers, just not from the piston. There is a plug at the back of the caliper, either some allen key or 14mm. Under that plug is a 4mm allen bit that you use to wind in the piston or wind out if youre installing it. Installimg it, you wind it out until the wheel wont move and then back a turn.
Life is too short for rusty cars. Loved it when you said you would leave that rusty bit, because a depression was coming on! Good channel. Peace be unto you.
I´ve had 12 of these along the way. Last one last year (model year 1988) which I worked for 7 months and it is now museum registered and sold to a car enthusiastic´s collection. Best car in the world. Or at least closest to my heart...
Looks like an interesting project. I bet you can fix all the rust - it looks a bit more extensive than the BMW, but not impossible for one with your skills. Good luck with it - I've never really been a Saab guy, but I'll be watching anyway, as I enjoy your channel quite a bit!
My parents both worked at the Saab plant in Trollhättan and I own a few Saabs myself. Thrilled to see you take on this project, subscribed and following. Good luck! :)
I've been driving Saabs for 35 years, with a 1991 900 SPG (Aero 16 in Europe) and 2001 Viggen convertible currently part of my fleet. These cars are robust, but do require regular maintenance to keep them happy. Getting the engine going again should be pretty simple - assuming that it was not taken off the road because of some serious damage.
Hey! I drove a 1991 SPG for over 6 years, until 500k and loved it.. and did resell it in good shape, no rust, no problem. Fantastic car as long as regular maintenance is provided. This is no Yaris..
Ohh that was an rustbucket! I tip on the rear brake calipers. The handbrake is in the caliper and to retrackt the caliper piston you can't just press the piston into the caliper. You need to screw it back into the caliper. And you do that by the adjuster screw. That screw is located behind a protecorscrew on the face om the caliper that is facing into the wheelarch. 😊 The adjusterscrew is an 4mm allen screw.
This is really cool. I owned a 1987 SAAB 900, bought it because of the Richard Prior movie Moving. It was a lot of fun to drive and I wouldn't mind getting another one. I think it is great that you are planning to drive it to Sweden.
This is a 900i 2.1 litre the 2 litre was fitted with the turbo. This was the standard for all 900i's right through to 1993-4 when Saab screwed everything moving to more of the Japanese style. That rust along the hood can be typical immigrating from the engagement when closed. But yours is extreme. This rusty Saab must be a result from salt on the roads there. I have 2 in Australia and rust free and same vintage and most of their lives I think outside. I had just found your channel and look forward to your Saab restoration. I think you will find parts in Europe cheap. Congratulations on a classic Saab but man alot of work ahead. Will be watching. Cheers and on 100K.
Saab 900, now you're talking. I've had 2x 99's and 4 900's over the years! Congratulations on 100k, great content and I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle this project. I have a 1993 3 door 900 turbo in a similar condition, waiting for me to turn it into the car I want to drive in my retirement. Hope to get stuck in next year, so this will be a good tutorial. Best Regards from the UK.
Congrats on the 100K! Well deserved. About the Saab.. personally I would pass on it and get a better base with full license papers.. but well you have a 100K viewers to show the journey to which might put things in a different perspective. Good luck wrenching and welding!
I'm more of a volvo-guy, but my dad had saabs (good memories of 99GL and 900i, when I was a kid). Great cars and I think the saab-guys are having a field day with you. Just look for the comments, saab-guys know their shit - pay attention to them, you'll have tons of help from them.
as mentioned by others..the left side rust is usually from oncomming traffic spray..containing gravel , salt etc..this is why left side usually rust more on older cars.
For second hand parts in Belgium, ask to Nicolas from thesaabfarm. Rust in inner front wheel arch is a very common problem on the 900. New parts are also available.
As a Saab owner my third a 900 Turbo se convertible ,93 vector 1.8 T and a 93 sportwagon and also a R50 cooper owner ,my first was my mum's car from 18 months old I had it until it was 13years old it failed it's MOT once the year I sold it ,it failed on the registration light bulb, fantastic cars.
WOW! I love it! I have to admit it looked pretty terminal at first sight but if anyone can give it a new life, you can. Your videos inform and entertain and I’m so stoked you got to 100k subscribers. Really well deserved. If ever you tire of being the best car guy on UA-cam, I think there’s a glorious career as a comedian waiting for you 🤣🤣🤣
Great project in deed!! A big congratulations on your 100K milestone! 👊🏼 We are all looking forward to seeing you reach the 1/2 million mark soon! Good job.
Had a Saab 99 as a first car. Got into a minor collision too. The pickup I hit had it's whole side pushed inwards. There was no damage on the bumber of the Saab :D. Tank of a car, but a terrible mpg.
Greetings from 🇨🇦! Love the channel and so glad to see an old Saab ! They are one of my favourite cars, though I never fully understood them until I drove one
I remember going into a Saab dealership with my father back in 2002. He told me "let me show you a real car brand". I was 9 years old. There was a Saab 9-5 sedan, in red, on display. Man, what a car. I remember it very good, the beautiful lines, the dark leather. It was very expensive, like ~ 40.000 euros back then. The best Saab, in my vision, and one of the few best cars ever made.
Brilliant video, I love the Saab 900 please do a full restoration, they are so rare now, you won’t loose our, it will be worth a lot and so satisfying to watch
I owned a 1983 900 Turbo. It was a Saab story, but one of my favorite cars. I now own a 2007 9-3t convertible in great shape which stays in the garage until the sun shines in Seattle for the summer. ☀️ 😅 New to your channel. Congrats on 100K. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Saab!
You Flemish are a good people! Three decades back I was arrested and locked up briefly in Oostende for "acquiring" and "redistributing" Moet and Chandon for a reasonable remuneration. Myself, and partner in crime were driven around Oostende in a police minibus as a Shame Tour which we thought was hilarious!!! We waved at all the onlookers in royal-fashion! PMSL!!! The locals (aside from our "enterprise") were extremely hospitable, and saw us Welsh as a novelty! We rarely had to buy a drink, so thank you Belgium, and I'm sorry for "grabbing an opportunity" where perhaps I shouldn't have!
I think you should restore it, always enjoy your videos, you have a real enthusiasm for cars of my younger years. Congratulations on 100k subscribers, you deserve each one.
Last comment! There’s a part number on the timing chain end intake side of the head, if it’s a 2.1 engine the head should have number 911535 cast there. The 2.0 has smaller intake ports and smaller runners in the intake manifold (and ofc a different part number)
Well done on 100k subscribers 👌 The Saab 900 Classic is the best and most saught after and is more than worth saving even in the condition you have. I have had my 1989 900 Turbo for 5 years and love it (until last month when changing the oil and sprayed everywhere including in my eyes, don't do that!) They are great cars, you can fix the dash cracking with some black filler and yes, the seats are the comfiest you will ever sit in... Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing what you do 👍🙏
Thanks for taking on the awesome Saab 900, looking forward to following the progress. Has anybody ever tried to plastic weld a cracked dash or maybe used epoxy resin to do a reasonable repair? That would be fun to try!
Now thats what I call e very cool project car. Cant wait for this. Please before you start doing any engine work or god forbid start the car make sure you turn over the engine by hand to make sure its not seized. Also spry some fogging oil down into each cylinder. After that if its good and turns no problem flush all fluids regardless, replace fuel filter and check and service fuel pump, change all filters and lastly change all ignition system. After that attempt first start. Any car thats been sitting for more than 3 years should be done this way period. Ive seen too many people destroy engines that could have been saved otherwise by just avoiding that first unnecessary "lets see if she will start". Greetings from Canada:)
Gefeliciteerd!
as a Swede i would love to see this car getting fixed. I love Saab and always will.

It is going to be a good challange. You are going to turn her into showroom condition. Can't wait to see nexr episode.

My favorite car of all time!! I’m so excited to see what you’ll do with it!! Congrats on 100k!
Being a Swede, with a soft heart for Saab 900 gen 1, I really honour you for taking on the challenge to salvage this modern classic!
Good on ya!
A great project. Good luck with it. A big compliment to your father too. It's nice when your father is not only a father but also your friend.
as a Saab owner, I love to see these videos Congrats on 100k!
Me too!!!
Absolute legend! Got a ‘93 900 Classic as well and really looking forward to this serie!

I remember renting a trailer for a day to haul a car some 200km home and it cost me 15€.
And it was a well kept, dual axle trailer with a manual winch.
15euro keep dreaming, not in the benelux bro. 15euro servicefee, 75euro for 4 hours, 120 for the day is more like it. 15euro maybe in afrika
120€ for an entire day is more than fair
in germany a trailer ist between 50€ (cheap) and 100€ (expensive) for the day. Standart ist like 70€
50e to rent trailer in Ireland for a day
@@rn.v4629 You can, I rent mine for €54 to 72/day (depending on the lenght of the trailer + tax and all costs included) in Belgium .

Thank you from sweden.

I’ve owned three 900 turbos. Each one left me weeping into my wallet… but I’d do it again!
I absolutely love these 900’s! Got to be one of my favourite cars, can’t wait to see the progress on her and is so good to see another one being put back on the road!

Man, comparing this to the old volvo, saabs don’t age that well. Gonna be a hell to restore. Good luck and i look forward to the next videos of it.

Sitting for almost a decade and the brakes are still free ! That’s Swedish engineering 👍🏻 nice project and congrats for making the 100K 🌈🍾
I mean, not to brag but I picked up a car that had sat for 25 with the brakes still free. its all about environment.
@@TheCatOfAges sure 👍🏻
Really looking forward to this one. Those driveshaft tunnels / front chassis rails can be very tricky so good luck!
Saab 900 is one of the best cars in history imho. Practical, comfortable, and ingenious design features.
Great upload, and congrats on the 100K subs 🙂 Best regards from a car detailer from Norway.
Loved the Saab 900, that bit different with the input of the aircraft industry. Looking forward to seeing you bring it back to life.
This is really cool. I owned a 1987 SAAB 900, bought it because of the Richard Prior movie Moving. It was a lot of fun to drive and I wouldn't mind getting another one. I think it is great that you are planning to drive it to Sweden.
Wow, roadtrip to Sweden! Hopefully the car makes it 😁 I welcome both you and the car with open arms though!
1:47 ah yes, a meeting we can all relate to xD... Im so pumped to see the end result of this car my dude
Succes met de Saab, can’t wait for more content!
Driving a - 84 Saab 900 Gli myself and very happy with'it so thank you for your interest in Saab and a
very good video 🇸🇪👍👍
For second hand parts in Belgium, ask to Nicolas from thesaabfarm. Rust in inner front wheel arch is a very common problem on the 900. New parts are also available.
Man, you took my idea! I’ve also been wanting a classic Saab. Congratulations! I look forward to many fun videos and experiences!
GO GET ONE!! OWNING ONE OF THESE IS QUITE AN EXPERIENCE!!
I really enjoy your videos. They are the perfect balance of an affordable project but with good results.
I'm looking forward to this project! Skandix has repair panels for the structural rust under the driveshafts, and a bunch of other panels.
WOW!
Good job.
"Glory hole" that got me dude 😂 I love a saab. My uncle had a few of the turbo versions. Cool cars
Had a Saab 99 as a first car. Got into a minor collision too. The pickup I hit had it's whole side pushed inwards. There was no damage on the bumber of the Saab :D. Tank of a car, but a terrible mpg.
Glad you saved such an iconic car. Looking forward to this restoration 👌🏻
Greetings from 🇨🇦! Love the channel and so glad to see an old Saab ! They are one of my favourite cars, though I never fully understood them until I drove one
Saab 900 is one of the best cars ever buildt (at least in my opinion 😁) I wish you the best of luck!
"You F*d up" "oh no what are you doing!"
i thought it at the beginning of the video, and i still think it at the end.
Go Memphis Go!!
Brilliant video, I love the Saab 900 please do a full restoration, they are so rare now, you won’t loose our, it will be worth a lot and so satisfying to watch
Greetings from Saab Club Poland member :) Nice crocodile!
19:54 Very professional 👍😂
Congrats! You deserve a lot more! Keep the good work as always! The best present for the viewers is this 2door 900! Looking forward
Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing what you do 👍🙏
The interior in that is homelike
Nice to see you taking on a Saab! I'm restoring a 1983 Saab 99 myself.
Thanks for taking on the awesome Saab 900, looking forward to following the progress. Has anybody ever tried to plastic weld a cracked dash or maybe used epoxy resin to do a reasonable repair? That would be fun to try!
Congrats on 100k from Massachusetts, US!!! Love the Saab!
Welcome to Sweden!
That's one crispy motor.....ready for its place in any junkyard.
Congratulations Memphis on 100k been with you from the beginning keep smashing it out the park 👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧
