  • Wound packing is a very important trauma skill set to learn. Wound packing works great in areas were can not get a tourniquet up high enough.You can us gauze or hemostatic agent such as QuikClot or Celox.

    In my military first aid training we were taught to tie our gauze together, because in the type of wound a bullet or fragment produces there is a large area that is torn up in the body. in a wound packing simulator we packed 14 rolls of gauze before we got a mound of gauze that we then could put a dressing on. Nasty stuff...

    Excellent video! Very informative and clear on the procedure. I am working on finishing my kit now with a few medications. I don’t know how to use everything in my kit so it’s nice to see video like this explain the basics. This gives me the confidence to do it on my own should the need ever arise. Thank you.

    Very cool video! The simulator is great in the way that you actually get to see when the bleeding stops and how much gauze and direct pressure you really need in order to keep that person alive. I don't know how Rick had it set up however you could put a bucket with red water and a pump and put the amount of liquid that would lead to bleeding out if that makes any sense. If you take too long and the bleeding stops without gauze and pressure then you know you have taken too long and the patient has died. Great video can't wait to see more!

    Hey there SkinnyMedic, I am new to the medic section of prepping, could you explain to me what you must do after you, for instance have packed a wound with combat gauze and covered it up with an israeli bandage and you have no hospital avaliable, when do you take the gauzes out and for how long should you keep it there? Is it posible for a wound like that to heal entirely from the inside, after stitches? And can arteries regrow after being pierced by a branch after a fall or a gunshotwound?

    Great video! I've heard that you should never wound pack the chest or abdomen but I never found out why not or what to do with wounds to those areas instead. Could anyone advise me on this please?
    Thanks again for your amazing channel

    • @charliesolomon4900
      @charliesolomon4900 4 роки тому +4

      From what I gather you don't want to wound pack the chest and abdomen due to the fact their just a large cavity so you're never gonna be able to properly pack in gauze like you would somewhere else like an arm or shoulder. The best thing to do from what I've seen is to use a chest seal to prevent air entering into the chest cavity. I'd definitely recommend doing your own research though since I'm still learning as well and could be wrong or misinformed.
