HOW TO GET MAIL AND PACKAGES 5 WAYS as a full-time nomad (& 4 are FREE!)

- Modern American nomads have life pretty good.
Thanks to modern technology and a blooming RV and Campervan culture, over a million of us currently live, work and thrive without being tethered to a traditional home. There is, however, one pesky necessity that can stop even the heartiest nomad in her tracks: how to receive mail and packages while constantly moving.
Sure, lots of traditional mail can now be received in digital form, but there are still times we need to receive an actual, physical package. Whether you need a small legal document or an e-shopping haul, you don’t need to become a logistics mastermind to receive deliveries without breaking the bank.
Here are Five Ways to Receive Packages on the Road - and four of them are free!

Robin, you are such a helpful and delightful person! - You are one of the very best assets to the RV'ing community! We're so glad you're here!
fake sub^^
Andy borowitz.....what does that mean?????
A good place to get rid of all those boxes (without throwing them away!) is to take them to a Uhaul location. Many have a place to put used boxes that people moving can take for free and re-use.
Thanks for the good information, as always,
Kari
You can never delete your UA-cam channel because I have most of your videos pinned to my RV: How-To board on Pinterest. Haha. Retiring next summer! So excited. 😀👍🏻❤️
Me too
you are an amazing person, we and many others are very grateful for all of your reseach and sharing, TY!:):)
I can't imagine anybody hitting the road and not picking up essential tips from you. I've been watching since video #1, and I'm not even retired yet! The wealth of info here is smart as it gets.
cesalt I read too quickly and thought you meant you've been watching since video #1 and you weren't even tired yet! Oops. ☺️
Yeah no thumbs down... you hit gold status in my book.
You are the absolute best source for everything pertaining to the nomad lifestyle. I know you are learning every day since you haven't been living the lifestyle for a lot of years but I can feel most confident that when you do learn something new you will most generously share that knowledge with others as quickly as you can. You are my favorite.
I used Walgreens to accept my FedEx package last week. FedEx required a signature and I wasn’t going to be home. FedEx delivered it to Walgreens the day after the scheduled delivery date. I received a text saying my package was available for pickup. Thanks for great information.
How dose that work did you just use their address in send the package there
The most useful video I've seen EVER for those that travel a lot! Robin, you're great!
UPS stores are great. For being deployed overseas, they were a life saver.
Amazon Lockers are also in all Whole Foods (as Amazon owns Whole Foods now)! FYI you can also scan the code in the eMail Amazon sends you instead of having to type in the code (much easier) 👍🏽
Whole Foods is not everwhere only major cities.
JoJo Lewis // I know, & I didn’t say WF’s is everywhere (re-read)... 🧐
The dollar stores have round sink strainers for $1.00
When I find a "Van living" UA-cam video I like ( useful info, tips, etc.), I'll email the link to myself for future reference. I stopped emailing your videos and have just saved your channel instead. What a resource! I learn something from all your videos. I rarely recommend channels but you're the exception. Thank you for all the great research.
Robin, Dahling, you're at 72K ! Excellent content once again and so well presented with eyes-on visual displays and actual web sites. You are the Nomad Living Goddess! Stay safe, my friend.
The General Delivery postal delivery is available at all post offices. When I hike long backpacking trails, I send provision packages to myself at post offices along the way. I've never had to put the "999" on the zip code before. I do label them "Please hold for NAME - estimated pickup date DATE." I've never had one go missing, though a cup of coffee got dumped on one while it was hanging around for a couple of weeks .
That's great! I, on the other hand, have not had that experience. You scored! USPS is a crapshoot
More great information! Thank you!
Hi Robin , While we were on the road for a year we just had our address changed to our daughters home and whenever we would be at a certain spot for a couple of weeks we would call her and give her the address of the campground we were staying at and she would mail our mail etc. to the address of the campground. Of course our mail was always a couple weeks late and our daughter agreed to do that for us but it worked perfectly for us. I realize for those who don't have family or friends willing to do that and for those who don't stay in campgrounds it doesn't work, but for those of us that do it is great.
Amazon locker.... mind blown! I had no idea these existed!
Great info. We loved the extra touch of taking us to the location instead of just talking about it. We loved your book as well!!!
Another thing you can do as an alternative is to visit walmart.com. They have a ton more to offer online than in the stores. You can have most walmart items shipped to the store nearest to you and you can just pick it up in the designated area. Most often you can find obscure and most of the same items that Amazon has but at a cheaper price. I have done this with home depot as well. I think some other stores will do this as well. Macy's and Target....etc. If they are common items they could even be ready for pickup right away if they are instock. l love Amazon and l'm a prime member, but they are not the only game in town. I try to spread my consumption around a little more.
man, you are a power house of information....and i love towns with only one post office, one police and fire station, one store, and somewhere around the town i am sure there is one horse.......ha ha, hey great video and awesome info for when i get a house sitter and want to travel for a week cause i cannot be long gone from my guys, five cats, never own 5 cats all at once......!
This is pretty common info, not groundbreaking stuff.
I just sent something to a friend who’s a full time nomad and I sent it General Delivery and I put in the post office’s specific address and it worked. 🤷♀️ She was in Washington. I guess everywhere is probably different. Anyway, thank you for all the info!! I recently bought an RV and am hitting the road full time pretty soon. I’m binging your videos and you’ve been so helpful. Also, I have those pillows. 😝
I know this is late but for any Canadians out there, Canada Post has flex delivery you can sign up for. You pick on a map where you want it sent . You can change it all the time and they are delivered to any post office retail or corporate retail. Kind of like usps does with more places to pick up.
Again one of the most informative vids out there!! Thank you!
thanks for the great information

Good Advice Thank You!
Weird unrelated related comment ALERT:
I have a Poshmark Closet... every now and again a guy wanted to buy some of my lingerie (now that my Closet has no more undies to sell I don’t mind disclosing this information)... sure, some wanted additional things and, ick... no... so they’re blocked... but for the straightforward Guy-Doesn’t-Want-it-at-home/work and no one to know thing, I’ve recommended General Delivery. So they just update the address for that purchase.
I also tell them NOT to rate it or me because it will show up in their purchase history. That’s not weird... it’s awkward.
It’s also worthy of a chuckle. To each his own.
This is such great information! Thank you! You are such a great resource as I determine if I want to solo rv.
Great info. LOVE your new decor!!! Cow blends in well, too. 😍

What a wealth of information. I wish I could implant ALL your knowledge in my brain. You are so smart. Thank you for the video,Robin.. I need to send for your book.
Robin, your programs are a "delight"! We are "newbies" to the RV world and have been watching numerous channels. You are very informative and get "right to the point". Love listening to you! Thank you for all the GREAT and detailed information.
My dad and I were just talking about how we were going to do our mail when we finally get on the road. Quit reading our minds!
Love the new pillows...picks up cow picture colors....hey...what happened to you showing us your project on the forward shelf area? Stay safe, good info as always. 🤗
Thanks ever so much for your inspiring and informative videos. This has been most helpful. Infinite gratitude.
Thanks so much!
This was one of my big questions! Thank you. I haven’t got that far in your book yet 😂
Thank you Robin, always look forward to your videos. Hoping to see your third book in your series soon. I’ve loved all your books. I also wanted to throw out another suggestion for package pickup. Many stores allow pickup at their sticks and brick store if bought online. No shipping charge or fee to pickup. Of course, need to be near a store to pickup.
Most big box stores, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc allow free pick up at stores. RV'rs basically know which direction they are heading and if ordered ahead, they can pick it up at the local store when passing thru. Not all products are at the local stores, plus prices are normally cheaper when ordered online.
Yes girl! I love my Amazon I have to have my Amazon LoL 😂! It must be a sign because I made up my mind last night and told my kids that I'm headed on the road by March 2020. This is the second package and mailing video that came up today. Love your channel 🥰🤗
Even though one knows this stuff it’s nice to be reminded. Besides, the pitfalls!! My solar panels... too big for Amazon lockers. I was in the Midwest in Midsummer, trying to find a way to receive them and get a straight answer from the shipper. At long last, they said they would ship Fedex so I gave them the big Fedex shipping center in Madison then paid 30 odd bucks a day over an intervening weekend waiting for them to come in. Lo and behold, my phone finally said they were at the Fedex center, BUT on my way there my phone then said the package had been returned to sender. When I got there, turned out they’d shipped Fedex Ground and the regular Fedex center couldn’t accept. By dint of a lot of persuasion and an awesome Fedex manager I managed to meet someone at a “gate “ several miles away and get the return off the truck.
Don’t even ask about the Warby Parker General Delivery snafu. Still one learns to always know who the shipper is and make sure everyone understands where the delivery address is and all will be well.
Yeah, I need to figure this out for being in Mexico long-term.
Glad to hear General Delivery is still a thing, I thought it might have faded away into the dim past. Back in the 1970's, I was able to send a large package containing a car part to my husband who was on the road. Even back then, a lot of people didn't know you could send stuff 'General Delivery' fill in city and state, and the post office would hold it for you. (another blast from the past......I was recently at the post office and a young man was mailing a package to someone 'C.O.D.' The clerk had to get help to find the form, but it's still a thing, also).
Excellent info! You always knock it out of the park! BTW, how you you getting along with your new rig? Things that work, things that are a challenge?
♥love your jacket ("Kauai") on it. It's interesting I just recently been following and watching your video's. Got some great tips. Some day I wanna do a road trip on/in an R.V. ? when or did you visit Kauai?Hawaii? Thanks for sharing some amazing tips.
Nice pillows and informative video. Curious what year is your RV?
Thanks for this great video. It's very helpful. What do you do though when you just have regular mail? And what about needing to have an address for things? TIA
Great info Robin! Getting mail and packages can definitely be a challenge for us nomads. I use all these techniques too. Another idea is to talk to the sender to see if they have any suggestions about local delivery/pick up spots. This happened to me when I ordered a bike online and had no idea how they were sending it or where I could pick it up in the town I was headed. I called the bike company and they said “oh yeah no prob! we ship fedex you can pick it up at this address, or this one, etc”. IT WAS SO EASY.
Another related topic/question. What about the mail that comes to you that’s not an item you ordered or that you can use a general delivery address? I’m thinking like credit cards, important documents, banking stuff, checks, insurance, etc. Most of my stuff comes electronically but once in a while I’ll get important mail. Do you use a family members address for that sort of thing? I guess this is also related to domicile so more complicated...
Actually I always get general delivery in TX and use my name general delivery and usps office address. I always call my post office and check to see if they do general delivery.

Yeaaaaa
Amazon lockers also in whole foods
Thanks for the info. The problem is trying to determine the shipping method they absolutely use. My house address is such that if I know it's coming UPS or FEDEX it's a different city and zip code than USPS. If I use my USPS address the other shippers either they take forever, or many times deliver to the wrong address, causing lost shipments. If I use THAT address and it's coming via USPS, they reject it and return it to sender. Welcome to my, and my neighbors, personal Hell! It's a real pain to have to confirm the shippers being used so I know what address to use. With Ebay, I have to contact the seller everytime before I pay, so I know what address to use. Than when UPS hands off the package to the USPS, as they do sometimes, FORGET IT. Jayman...
Jeez, I did not know any of this!!! I was totally off base on mail service. Those 4 free avenues are terrific. What about other mailings like a bill?
