    It’s not about the money! It’s about the quality of life! I just turned 60 and finally figured it out. You’re living the dream, don’t lose sight of that. Here in South Carolina we Americans have it all wrong. We live to work. And then we die. Your doing life right sir.

      Thank you @tomnixon9551. I think we all struggle with that work / life conuncdrum at some stage. Its such a shame how much pressure we put on ourselves to keep up. ☺️

    We bought a house that is about 14 miles from your house in Corinaldo in 2012. Hard to adequately describe the beauty of the region. We enjoy returning and reestablishing friendships. The restoration truly never ends, but its the best part of the journey.

    Another great video - I think we all appreciate the lack of silly library music, the calm almost meditative state that you labour in and the fact there's no idiotic "Please like, subscribe and ring that bell" nonsense that's such a turn-off in other YT vids. Keep the format exactly as it is - don't be tempted - and you'll get more subscribers than you could ever have dreamed possible.

    • @threeacresofmarche
      @threeacresofmarche  11 місяців тому +7

      Thank you @sailwesterly5444 . I am so pleased to read this as I am blinded by the 'subscribe' thing and need to keep on track. I have a lot to learn about sound and where to place music so it really works all while wanting to play the natural sounds. Other than the odd tractor, or the farmers dogs going wild at feed time, it is just the sound of nature. Once things bed in and I see who the real audience is I will ask for more of what is coming over well and what is not so good. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

    Having binged all the recent videos it is interesting to notice how you have adjusted your style over time. Huge fan of the authentic, vulnerable, chatty, self deprecating and funny host you have evolved into. Love this project and your passion for it. 👏🏼

    Impressed by your kitchen bench! I would start with the neighbours concerning the water, then the Geometra. If it looks like possibly more than garden water, the local commune should point you to testing labs.

    Hi Richard, hello from 9,000 km across the Atlantic to your NW. Congrats on that kitchen counter, looks so inviting! And I actually think your outhouse has great potential, could be so much worse (rotting/stinking hols in the ground, etc). About the well: I'd definitely want to know about the history of crops and agricultural chemical use upwind and up-slope of your land. BTW, please don't feel like you have to only show "the good" parts of your journey; "mistakes" are steps to learning, and out here in viewer land we are all just fellow humans, admiring your courage and initiative to take a risk and live your dream! Lee

    • @threeacresofmarche
      @threeacresofmarche  11 місяців тому +2

      Hello @LPay-jy8mx You're right. It could be a lot worse.
      Thanks for the feedback re what to show. Sometimes mistakes take a while to present themselves so I will be honest and try cover everything. There have been a few things that I made mistakes on - related to weed management - that I cut out as I thought it was really boring footage!😂
      Maybe I do a round up video every now and again to cover the good, the bad, and the ugly, for those interested in the full detail of this journey.
      I appreciate the feedback. Thank you.

    I work in the ice manufacturing industry in the United States, specializing in Food Safety. I would recommend a good water filtration system, maybe even a decent RO, or Reverse Osmosis filtering system. This should take care of any issues you may have with the water. Compare the costs to a standard 3 or 4 stage filtering system, with the required filter changes and associated costs. It may cost more, but you won't have to worry about any nasties in your water.

    When you are cutting off a large branch of a tree that you want to keep, you might want to consider the 1-2-3 cut. The first is underneath, near the collar. The second, on the top, further up the branch and the third, flush with the outside of the collar. This will prevent striping the bark underneath the cut. This is particularly good for fruit trees such as your cherry.

    If water-shortages will be an issue in summer, you should consider some swales for your land. Even if they are relatively small - say 2' deep and 4' wide, they will make a big difference to what you can grow and how it grows. As for the well, get ALL the info you can about it, gopro etc..

    I am a 4th generation/descendant of a Portuguese immigrant in the ‘New World’ who became a merchant/entrepreneur that a stretch of California coastline became named in recognition of the popular enterprise of goods from the area of Petaluma southward. Today, Brazil Beach is an RV park since sold through family conflict since nothing could be agreed upon in a long fought legal battle spanning decades. I hope one day to do the same thing as you have in my home country; structure a home, build a life, and a family to prosper in what may seem like new beginnings. Thank you for showing me that these dreams are not unreal.

    Ask the municipal about all your questions. I would be concerned about the Ph which is what the test will show & any other minerals you may want to keep or eliminate. When you get a pump also look at a water filter/purification. Another method to store water could be creating your own reservoir with a run off. A simple method for the land is to create a 3-4 tiered system of different sized stones to rocks which is cheap.

    • @threeacresofmarche
      @threeacresofmarche  9 місяців тому

      Thanks @andrewcowman8731 . I will be looking at creating water storage at the top of the field once the lansdscaping and planting takes shape. I will do the tests then to make sure that it is ok for use on the tress and grass etc. After reading the comments and learning more about the local are with the free supply of filtered water, I think I will leave the drinking side. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.👍

    Hello, with regards to off-grid I didn't know until recently that it is illegal in Italy, if you install solar panels you are obliged to sell the electricity to the national grid and they give it back to you!! Not entirely sure how this works, you will have to ask an expert, I just wanted to soften the blow! I also have a well, in Piemonte region and my husband had it analysed, it resulted being drinkable very handy in the height of summer with the exceptionally hot weather when sometimes it's rationed. All the best going forward.

    I would not use that well water even for garden purposes if you want to be organic. I imagine the fertilizers and other chemicals from the surrounding farm fields are in the ground water.
    Always undercut a branch before cutting it. That way, if it wants to break before you're clear through it, it will break clean at the undercut.
    This is the first of your videos at the house I have seen, so I subscribed. Should be interesting.
    The drone shot of your place surrounded by farm fields made me laugh.
    It reminded me of the movie "Being There." Chancey the gardener (Peter Sellers) has to leave the rich mans house he grew up in after the old man died. When he comes out, the house is the only one left in the neighborhood, and the surrounding area is a wasteland.

    I’ve seen other channels order in water test kits even if it’s only to use on garden and vegetables. There are filter attachments that might filter out the worst of it but not certain how effective against fertiliser chemicals. Your neighbours will advise what they use on their crops (which will end up in your ground water) so if they’re using organic fertilisers you might be ok.
