    Very cool video. Obviously it's just bench racing, but I would have figured the EV would have a quicker 1/4 and 1 mile time based on the linear torque curve and lack of losses due to shifting gears.

      Depends where the EV hits 800hp. He could've added more low end torque and keep 800bhp throughout the rpm range. Means, adjusting the torque in the files so that it stays constantly at 800bhp, pop in the power figure and rpms in the formula and it will spit out the necessary torque figure at each rpm level. We don't know how he modified the files, but it doesn't seem like it's developing that much torque to have such a high power level in the lower rpm range.

      The only thing I edited in the files is the fuel tank capacity. The EV is much heavier and the gas car needed over 200 liters more fuel to bring it to the same weight.

      In drag racing, N/A would be slowest, supercharged will get the vehicle off the line faster, but the turbocharger, given enough time will catch up with the supercharger

    • @-aid4084
      @-aid4084 7 місяців тому +7

      @wtf-hc3tp there is unfortunately a lot of variables that could make or break who wins. If they all had the same hp and the same rpm, it's likely that the turbo would fall behind initially, and maybe if the engine size was reduced enough it would overtake the others because of the weight difference. Even a supercharger can have a delay, so off the line the N/A should pull ahead, before being overtaken by the supercharger which both might have less weight and better response than the turbo.
      You know what? I'm going to experiment tomorrow to find out in beam. I'm pretty sure my judgement is correct, so that's my bet.
      So off the line it's the N/A, then the supercharger, then the turbo, and then the supercharger overtakes and the turbo might be able to catch up, might not.

    Notice how the electric can maintain only about 630 hp over longer time while the petrol powered one maintains about 800 hp. This gives the petrol powered one a clear advantage in the top speed test. As for standing mile, the ev has a higher average power in that case and thus it wins. Basically the final gear on the petrol one is too long in that test. On the shorter tests the petrol one has higher average power thanks to the gears. Basically if you adjusted the final drives/gear ratios optimallly for each test for of both of them, they'd be even more closely matched.
    Also I wonder if the behaviour of the EV engine is accurate in this case. It has very non linear torque curve and to my understanding normally electric engines have pretty linear torque curves. However with electric it's possible to have a non linear curve of course by limiting power so I dunno.

  • @Modikie
    @Modikie 6 місяців тому +1

    i think the physics of boomng is slightly outdated for ev's as ev's are clearly capable of pulling hard on acceleration and on the top end, and at the low end with far higher rpm being at their disposal.
    the plaid also has a much larger rpm range, up to 23k rpm while the range in here is only 15k. even in the old p100d, that went to 18k rpm. and the standard model 3 motor goes up to 20k rpm. that makes a huge difference as just increasing the rpm by that much alone means you can effectively double its effective wheel torque by using a lower gear, and still hit the same topspeed as before. if the stats were updated with a proper final drive with the same top speed configuration and a modern ev rpm range, the ev would have likely won.
    ice uses gears to their advantage for improving acceleration and top speed. we gotta see a more realistic comparison with a more standard rpm around 20k with a final drive more designed to help acceleration, while maintaining a similar top speed. idk how much you cant change here but i think you should include the plaid's 23k rpm redline, with appropreiate final drive gearing. like i said, gas has a huge advantage with gears for acceleration and top speed and if you did the same with an electric motor, the floor would be wiped clean by the ev, its just not practice to do so because they're so good without gears. but remove gears on a gasoline engine, and you will see a much better comparison of the powertrain itself, not with the help of gears.

    the benefit the gas car has that the ev doesnt is higher wheel torque through low gearing at the low end, and higher gearing at the high end for better top end, always giving you more torque. it seems like the ev is straight from the motor to the wheels and it only revs to 15k rpm, which must be stretched all the way to over 220mph. if the motor was similar to that of the most populat ev ever made (a tesla model 3/y), the motor would rev to 20k rpm, and therefore would have much better down low torque applied. and if you added a second gear to the car, it would be much, much faster because you would have a low gear for high acceleration, and a high gear for high top speed.
    if you want to compare the drivetrains themselves, you should remove the gearbox from the ice, leaving it straight to the wheels with a clutch like the ev. if you want to make it more realistic to real world, increase electric rpm and use a lower gear ratio.
    but i think you may have been trying to get each to max out at over 200mph and seeing how acceleration would change, but thats slightly unfair because with only 15k rpm to work with and only 1 gear, thats severely handicapping the ev as you cant use a lower gear because you'll run out of revs for top speed.

    • @Modikie
      @Modikie 6 місяців тому

      a way to make this work would be to take something like a superbike engine making 200hp that revs to 16k rpm, giving it a single gear, and comparing it to a 16k rpm 200 hp electric motor. same redline, same number of gears. the difference is with ice, they get more efficient with gears. with ev's, the do get better with gears in some cases, but its not enough to counteract the cost, complexity, and drivetrain losses that they would cause when in 99% of cases, adding a motor fixes those problems while not having the issues adding a transmission would cause. but adding a transmission would make it quicker as long as there is enough traction, and have a much higher top speed and better torque at those higher speeds.
