I’m so glad to see this. I wondered why my smoke alarm went off when I was frying something and the food was not burning . Found out it was the grime on the bottom of the pan. I scrubbed it but hardly anything came off. Thanks for the solution.

Found out something useful, I didn't use steel wool, I used an old plastic store card to scrape away and simply pressed hard enough to form the plastic to the profile of the pan sides. Worked a treat and very fast too !

Good tip around cleaning pans, using the wrap to increase dwell time is a good idea.. one world of caution, this may pit some metals and contact times over 10 minutes is not recommended for any materials other than high grade stainless steel or ceramic. Never do this on aluminum or copper bottom pans.

when I was cleaning for Disney, we used "Bar keepers Helper" it's a powder that you apply with a damp sponge, and let set a few min, FABULOUS on stainless and copper (don't know about others though), my dad taught me to clean my bakeware with a similar oven cleaner method to yours, only we spray the item inside of a plastic bag and leave it in the sun for 30 min...SPARKLING clean... so two variations, I know work well also. Happy Cleaning!

I've found that a second spray of oven cleaner on the outside of the pan usually removes any remaining after the first clean. Also, it's important to lay the pan flat on a surface during the entire spraying operation, rather than holding it in your hand as appears in part of this video, to prevent any of the spray from straying onto the top side cooking surface.

I used Easy Off on my pan bottoms before ever discovering this video and it seemed to eat away at the finish. I have Calfalon pans, just for reference purposes. When the pans were new, the bottoms were rather shiny. Ten years of use have lent to a buildup of grease and the other normal crud. I thought, "hey, Easy Off works great for my oven and stove!". Well, it removed *some* of the grims but when I saw the result of the filmy finish (and that's after I also scrubbed it with a regular sponge and dish soap), I wasn't happy.
I'm not suggesting it didn't work for you, I just thought I'd share my experience so others aren't surprised if it happens to them.

I let whatever I need cleaned sit in a sink of boiling hot water and just chuck a dishwasher tablet in with it. Works on a variety of items and stains types, including really stubborn stains such as those left by turmeric, which very few cleaning products can remove.
I even use a dishwasher tablet and water to clean up my white shoe soles, they are surprisingly versatile and a lot of people would already have them in their home so no need to go out and buy anything new.

That system really works. My main stainless steel pan, had become quite 'varnished' on the bottom from various grease drips running underneath and burning on. I sprayed Easy-Off and wrapped up for overnight, and the next day, I placed it in my sink of hot soapy water. The burned on 'varnish' floated right off without being touched at all. That eyesore that resisted even industrial Scotch Bright scrubbing pads, was finally gone! Thanks.

I spray them with oven cleaner and put them into a plastic grocery bag overnight or until I'm ready to work on them; sometimes it's a day or two. In the winter I put the pans in the oven and turn on self-clean. Depending on how coated they are I may spray them with oven cleaner before doing the self-clean method.

Vinegar also works as a soak or wetting agent(wet your item with it) and you can also take advantage of its germ killing effects, as well. The acidity of the vinegar works wonderfully as an abrasive/abrasive aid with the dishwashing liquid and your cleaning tools. Then, you can quickly rinse in commercial alkaline water to neutralize the acid once you are finished. Or you could also use baking soda and water instead, but BS has a tendency to leave a powdery residue that alkaline water will not. This step will kjII the acid! As a matter of fact, you can use vinegar as a hand sanitizer with normal soap, if you also have some baking soda and water to neutralize the acid. Plus, use baking soda/alkaline rinse before or after eating vinegar/acidic foods to save your teeth. But, this dish washing system will work on problem dishes as well, except you do not soak on general dishes as long.

Easy off works much quicker (If you are in a hurry) if you heat your surface - doesn't the instructions on the can say to heat your oven to warm - like 100 - 200 then apply - I mean hold your breath - and apply. the heat speeds up the time it takes to melt off the burned on parts. I think you could set your pan on a cookie sheet and heat it for 10 or 15 minutes, take them out of your oven, spray the heck out of them, turn off your oven, put them back in your oven and wait 1 hour. Then see how clean they get. I like your cover the pan method, but of course that is assuming your pans are room temperature and cold. Also I watched a video with the yellow can of easy off - that can not be used on aluminum, as it contains lye, and the blue 'fume free' can you used can be used on aluminum as it contains no lye.

Baking soda and vinegar has never worked for me for baked on grease and definitely not for badly burned pans (i.e. burned oatmeal or rice). I use baking soda and vinegar for all my household cleaning, but this is one place where it routinely fails for me.

Just say no to harsh chemicals and use Bar Keepers Friend. It has a natural chemical found in Rhubarb and will make your pans look brand new. And it’s really cheap.

Use bronze wool 0000 grade. Softer than the steel pan and will not scratch. If you push too hard and leave micro scratches you can buff those out with barkeepers friend

You can spray your pans and slip them into an appropriate sized, plastic bag. I do that with oven racks too.

We use to spray easy-off and put it in trash bags over night.
