t sounds like you are doing all the right things. The Flattening Technique should be thought of as a way to quickly start your garment. To fully realize the patterns you should definitely to some editing post Flattening in the 2D window.
If you cannot select it then it is either not a closed shape or the shape wraps around the body/limb too much. Try adding in a seam to flatten then merging after.
@@CLO3D can you give me a tutorial link for that? I don't really understand what you're saying with adding a seam flatten and merge after. how are other people making leggings or tight long sleeve tops? everyone else is surely having to navigate tight circles around wrists and ankles?
I'm getting a 'Failed to flatten some patterns' message on 2 of 8 pieces, although the pieces are highlighted yellow, just like the ones that do flatten. Why is that?
That happens if the pieces don't have enough areas broken up by segments to make seams. For example; if you make a bodice and don't draw the shoulder seam AND the side seam, the wrapping type of pattern cannot be extracted (would not be possible in real life either). There needs to be enough realistic seams for it to work. Occasionally you have enough seams and get this message still and might have to delete and re-draw one or all sections.
