    hard to believe how powerful these machines are. you really showed its capabilities very well in this video. I think massey owes you a check for this one. better than any commercial I have seen for massey.

    I like your videos.
    I purchased in 2013 a new Mahindra Max 28xl HST (Diesel)with loader and backhoe w/thumb Compact Tractor + Grapple, 5 ft landpride box blade, 4 ft bush hog, 5ft landscape rake, a used 5ft disc, used 5ft King Kutter finish mower, ratchet rake, and carry all for 5ft sprayer with 30 gallon tank. I also purchased a 16ft trailer to haul the tractor. I have about 430 hours on the tractor. I love this tractor with no breakdowns, I have used this tractor to clear 2 acres +. I'm currently digging a 290 ft ditch across my property to reduce flooding. I still have a little more to clear on my acreage. I had to clear vines out of the trees and cut down and burn 20 trees only with this tractor. I dug out 10 grapevine root balls.
    Good Luck with your Tractor.

    Perfect tractor. Mine has 88.4 hrs on it and going strong. We ( my wife uses it also) use it for clearing land, moving rocks, making and repairing roads and carrying large logs to my sawmill. We are in central Maine homesteading off grid. Love your vids.

    Hi John,
    Watching your videos gave me the best review for purchasing a sub compact. I grew up driving a Massey 165 for my Uncle so it was only fitting that I got one. I picked mine up in June and have just over 80 hours on. This past weekend I trenched in a 100' waterline from the house to the barn. I live in Canada and had to dig a 5' trench so it doesn't freeze. Other projects have been yard cleanup, I picked up a set of pallet forks for moving landscaping rocks around, post hole digger for making a set of climbers for the kids, going to plant trees in the spring with it as well. We have a big berm on our 3 acre yard and I must say the 4wd makes mowing a breeze on that thing. I love my tractor and every time I use it I am so glad I bought it. I need to post some videos but need to get a go-pro or something to record while I work with it. What do you use for recording and editing? I do have some still pics, but no video yet of mine.

    These little compact tractors are just all around impressive and tough as nails for to he so small,I have an older kubota bx24,its a little rough looking cosmetically but it has yet to let me down on any task I have thrown at it,I have removed some huge stumps that left asteroid crater sized holes in the yard with it and numerous other heavy task and it handles them no problems,I love my little orange beast,awesome video by the way,very well done and a great demonstration of the capabilities of your little red beast. Have a good one John

    We picked up 5 acres wooded here in Florida. We are shopping for a compact tractor. This video just made sure the Massey Ferguson GC 1700 series tractor is on the list. There is a Massey Dealer about an hour from our property. We will look into paying them a visit. My son says he would rather have a small compact like yours with a backhoe than a larger one without. After him and I put in a 36 foot by 18 inch galvanized culvert by hand with shovels and a hand tamp, we are looking forward to adding a reliable tractor to the family.
    Subscribed and clicked the bell.

    • @LouisianaTractorworks

      Thank You FbP!! for the comment and the sub!! They are a swiss army knife type tractor and a very powerful drive train for the size. This works in two ways, strong and small enough to fit in tight places to do a variety of jobs. The small size and light weight limits you from doing other type jobs. When looking at tractors you want to figure out what are you going to be doing the most with it and find one that fits that first and everything else is a plus! You also want to find a really good dealer. That is the second most important part about getting a tractor! lol I hope the best for you and the family on this Adventure!!! Please let me know what you end up getting and no matter what tractor you get I hope to see you and it!! Have a great week!!!

    Hi John I enjoy all your videos. This video does show it is not a an overgrown lawnmower. The machine is made for specific duties.
    Let me say to know your machine and use it to its potential is what makes the tractor and the operator. We all learn by doing. I get most of my ideas and knowledge first on videos like yours and then apply it to my needs and my machine. I have a BX25D and I love it. From mowing, grading, stump pulling, moving stone and dirt and to removing snow I just love it. I am residential but my two kids and the neighbors all benefit from my "play time". Happy Turkey Day

    Glad you found my channel now I am subscribed to yours. My tractor is the GC 2300 one of the first ones without a backhoe. Basically been a good tractor 4 10 years besides replacing the seals on the axle knuckles regularly as well as tie rod ends. It has 1700 hours on it and it still runs strong, replacement starters being a pain in the ass. You really put your machine to the limits that's great to see, will be watching your other videos about the geothermal that seems to interest me a lot thanks for sharing

    I have the Massey Ferguson gc1720 and love it even tho i haven't used it for the jobs that you have as i don't have much going on right now .I have dug a ditch scraped my driveway ,spread four truck loads of dirt,moved last yrs. snow and moved several loads of mulch with mine . Now that it's starting to loosen up and get broken in i really love it as it seems to feel stronger and alittle more free everytime that i use it .It is a great tractor.I looked at several tractors before i bought the Massey and almost bought the R.K24 as it has more options but i just felt that the Massey felt more comfortable in the operators station and compared to the Fordson and the kubota b6100e tractor that i had the Massey wins hands down and would buy the same tractor again.Thanks for your videos and hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

    I really appreciate your enthusiasm and it this was a great retrospective of your projects. Congratulations on 150 hours!!! I think we all can tell that you enjoy that little tractor and that your review will be favorable. No lawn tractor, overgrown or otherwise, could take out the stumps you and your Massey handled. I only have a total of 30 hours of tractor experience, but I consider my John Deere 1025R to be part of the family. I'm not in my 20's or 30's anymore and the tractor is literally the difference between giving up on outdoor projects and getting them done with a smile on my face. I think someone would be happy to have any tractor, red, orange, blue or green but as you know I chose green. Why? Well once I started seeing people on TractorByNet post what they paid I called my dealer with some numbers and to my surprise they said yes. So price was out of the equation, it was just a few hundred bucks more than the others. I wanted it because I liked the loader control mounted on the fender, the seat felt really good the quick attach system didn't seem to hurt capacity and allows for pallet forks (this was a big factor), The thick rubber mat on the floor seemed "premium" and likely to stay in place and I like the plastic since a lot of other tractors I see start rusting where the operators feet scuff the paint. Cup holder, USB power for my phone, tilt steering, cruise control, a height stop for the three point hitch... It just seemed like a really nice tractor to me. I have to admit that I like the way it looks too. So it was "the one" for me. Can't do much of a review though since I've only had it for about 8 weeks but I will say we are enjoying it! Thanks again for the videos and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

    I own a GC1715 for 2.5 years now and I haven't had any major issues with mine. These tractors are built tough. I've used mine to dig boulders as big as the bucket out of the ground and haul them away. I just wish I bought mine with a back hoe. At the time when I bought my tractor I never thought I would ever have any use for it. The only issues I had with mine were the seat and pto safety switches going bad after a year. As much as I enjoyed the one I have, I want to get a bigger Massey to do bigger jobs and get done quicker. Nice videos by the way.

    Hey John,
    Hello from Southwestern Pa,
    This is my first time commenting but I’ve been following you for quite a while now. I really enjoy watching your videos. They’re fun and informative. I own a Massey Ferguson 1526. I bought it brand new 5 years ago, It’s been a great tractor. Two friends also bought Massey’s this past summer, a GC1705 and a GC1720. Both guys love them so far. To anyone looking at tractors I’d recommend putting Massey on your short list! Thanks for sharing your videos with us! You definitely show the capabilities of these machines. Keep up the good work. I’d call these “tractors” in my opinion, Small but mighty.

    Congrats on 600 SUBSCRIBERS & 150 HOURS on the Massey! I believe your review for your Massey tractor is you love it, You completed so many projects with it from geothermal digging ,removing serious stumps that made your front end lift up pretty high :) to leveling out land with a tiller and so much more. That Massey is a beast of a tractor! I believe my tractor (JD 4110) is a sub-compact tractor because its larger than the 1 family Deere and has a fair amount of hydraulic controls. It defiantly gets the job done for me. Hope you have a Great Thanksgiving :)

    You do a great job with these videos, I watch them for two reasons; 1. They are informational and Massey related and 2. Your character, you seem like an honest, straightforward individual and that matters to me. For reasons I will not bother to go into, I hold you above many of the other sites that are not as informative and introduce uncomfortable elements. That said, as you may recall, I too have a GC1710, mine has over 200 hours on it and I voted for Massey by purchasing a 1726e. Affectionately now known as "Little Red" and " Big Red". If you give me a way, I will send you pictures of some of my work and modifications which you can share with your audience. Second note - let's do a little math. Renting a loader-backhoe of this type is about $250 for a half day, which taking into account delivery (sometimes there are charges) the work of loading and unloading, getting to the destination and such, you are lucky if you get 4 hours of work. There are clearly financial benefits to renting it a whole day, a week, or a month, but we rarely get to use them for that amount of time continuously, right? They usually sit for a long time, waiting for "us" to be available. I welcome all opinions here. Moving on with the math, no fees or other charges being considered, you are about half way paid off on your investment. 150 hours divided by 4 (half day rental) = 37.5. That's 37.5 rental periods times $250 = $9,375. Of course this is a rough estimate and we can get this number to go either way with some other assumptions. At the lowest assumptions you are more than a third paid off and using mine above, you are easily half way. Again, thank you for all your efforts, I truly enjoy the information being presented and the integrity with which you do it. Let me know if you would like some of my pictures, I have no plans or desire for a UA-cam channel of my own. After watching the video, I vote that you hold the GC1710 in high regard as a piece of construction equipment and not a glorified mower...I completely agree!!

      @LouisianaTractorworks  6 років тому +1

      Carl, I greatly appreciate your comments! You are very kind!! Yes! Email me the pictures to louisianaaquaponics@gmail.com I can't wait to see them! You know, I bought my Massey to do some dirt work. I figured for what I paid for the tractor to do all the work my self. Was way cheaper then the bids I was getting. Anything I get out of the tractor pass that, is just a big plus. So you are so right on the math for just renting one! I really do love the Massey even with the issues I have had with it. Which seems pretty common. Thank you again for watching the videos and I'm glad you enjoy them!

    I think this video was aimed right at me. For years i have used what was called a garden tractor. I have went through 2 of them in 14 years at about $3 grand each. Just like you say just glorified lawn mowers so i have made the decision is real tractertime. Your videos have convinced me that Massey Ferguson GC1710 has what it takes for my purpose my only problem is so has the RK 24 from Rural King. So between now and this spring i must decide on which of the 2 real tractors to go with. Thank you for all your fabulous videos makes my choice harder but shows just what we want to see and expect from a great tractor and the company that builds them.
    Oh almost forgot to say happy Thanksgiving and a great holiday season. Yes hunting season is here in WV and had a pretty good first day 2 management does ready for the freezer. I'm not a trophy hunter for me its just meat in freezer and food on the table. Again Happy Holidays and be safe.

    Simply said....It's a BEAST! And John, I already told you this, when it comes to anyone taking out stumps, digging deep moat-sized holes, resurfacing top layers of soil, scooping buckets of dirt, or anything else a tractor operator must do.....You...Are..."The Beast Master" who controls the BEAST!! Gitem brutha...Gittem!
    Excellent wrap-up review without even saying one word. As Dave said it, Massey should be paying you. I haven't seen any...not any tractor company do any real-world operator's footage like this. They just can't top this. Hey, I wish you and your family a fun and safe Thanksgiving, brother. Be safe man. Don

    • @houndsmanone4563

      In reality John, your wrap-up review is how tractor companies , especially Massey, should really do their... "Take A Look At This"... sales pitch. They wouldn't have to say one word. All they would have to do is say....Just take a look at this satisfied user's footage. I'm going to our local Massey dealer and give him the link of your video (if that's OK). He just needs to say to folks thinking about a MAssey, watch this.....BAM!.... then let them see your video. Later.

      Hey William, you are right! I think if it is doing the jobs you bought it for then it's a tractor. Each size is used for specific situations. Nice review John! I liked it! My front neighbor has a MF. Not quite sure the model, we don't happen to see each other much. The stump at 15:00 in your video tells it all about the tractor! We can see you are really satisfied with it. As you asked us about review of our own tractor, I would say I missed a great occasion to make the half century review on my Case 430 (1962)... If my tractor would have been used only 3 hours per year, it would have more hours than yours! Lol! I don't know exactly the number of hours on mine, as it reads 2004 hours since the last 15 years! Good video, it seems you're pretty happy with it. I love my JD 1025R. I didn't look at the red tractors because there isn't a dealer near me. There was green, orange, and blue. All fantastic tractors, so I ended up with the 1025R for a few nit picky reasons.
    I am very pleased with it. It's a swiss army knife type of tractor. And it is a tractor. People that call sub compacts over sized law mowers don't know what they're talking about. Yes, a bigger tractor could do more faster, but I don't need that on my 6 acres. It does everything that I need it to do and it does it well.

    Well i would say by the video you are giving it a great review. As for what i think its hard to say. As i stand back and look at it it looks like a mower on steriods but as i operate it it feels like a tractor.
    Now my review of the 1710 is i have no regrets buying it. I absolutely love it. Although i will say my first experiance with snow was a bit dissapointing. I live on a hill and it really struggled with being able to steer while moving snow. What i have read is to add weight to the front of the tractor and possible add chains to the front tires. So i think im going to fabricate a box for the front to put some weight in it and try some chains.
    Great video.

    Have a small box store John Deere riding mower and that is what it is, a mower. I do pull around a good size cart with it that I use for all sorts of stuff, Has its place. The other is a Mahindra 1526, filled tires, back blade, box blade, 60" Lynx 3 point snowblower and a quick attach lifting boom for the FEL. Does more than the JD 2305 it replaced but after cleaning up my heavier projects, I'm missing the smaller JD. Both had the same HP. The Mahindra has a 3 speed gear which high is useless on anything but running down the road empty. When I hit the hill on my driveway, it slow that sucker right down to nothing. The JD with a 2 speed was perfect and it meshed with one finger. The Mahindra needs a hand full of lever but both are good for their capacities. If I had to say which one could out perform manufacturers claims and surprise the crap out of the user it would be the JD. I consider them both real tractors. One thing to consider and my main reason for going with the Mahindra was the regen. It doesn't have one, don't want one, will never get one. I liked the 2305 so much, I considered selling my new Mahindra and buying a used 2305 which I have located for 11,000, 100 hrs, garaged all its life, looks new. Probably won't happen but who knows. These small tractors are a great buy and can do most anything with them. I'd have been dead by now without mine. Great Video.

There is one weakness with mine and that is lift capacity of the loader which is just under 600 lbs and that has been a disappointment, but all other tasks it’s has performed great with no issues. That being said and because of the lift capacity she going away yes I’m up grading to a larger one probably went way over board a lot more tractor then I need right now but I am also looking to the future where we want to sale my rental properties and get some land . @@LouisianaTractorworks thx. As it turns out, I didn't even need to spend any money. After using the new "U" bolts ( about $8 ), I found two older ones hiding under stuff. So, it could have been basically free.
      If I were to build it again, I would increase the 2x4 frame width just about 1/4" so the left/right side 2x4 next to the sheet metal could run continuous from front to back. It works that I have two compartments/frames on front/back side of the roll bar, but would be stronger if outside 2x4 was one piece front to back [on left/right side]. Best of luck.

      Thank you Andrew, for watching and the comment! Cograts!! On the new tractor. I hope you get as much out of it as I do with mine. You got some toys with it, that is awesome. I have never use a moldboard, bottom plow, or a buster behind the Massey. Mainly because I don't have any of them lol. I use my tiller and I will be posting videos of a row maker I picked up at the end of last summer for this spring garden. Have a good week! See ya in the next one!

    Very cool overview video! I've been debating getting a rototiller or a box blade to help level out my yard, similar to what it looks like you were doing. I have a few acres I'd need to work, and don't want to spray grass killer all over the place-- did you have any issue tilling the living grass? Looks like it turned out just fine.

    • @LouisianaTractorworks
      @LouisianaTractorworks  5 років тому +2

      Thank you Joe! I was thinking the same on both but the tiller works so much faster. I cut my grass as short as my SCAG would go. The tiller broke it up quickly. I did make a few passes but that's because of the stuff I was finding. I don't know what you have to deal with on your property but I'm glad I got the tiller.

    • @JoeSoslick

      @@LouisianaTractorworks Good idea on cutting the grass short first, that's sort of what I was thinking too if I went the roto route. In a dream world, I would get both the box blade and the roto, use the box first to stir things up and find any big rocks/debris, then till it to a smooth finish. Guess I better get back to work if I ever want that to come true, haha!

    I run the 39 hp and it does good most the time but others it can be a little week. I had some equipment stolen lately so im thinking about getting a mini ex or mini skid instead of my mowers and stuff again but just thought about getting the backhoe attachment. Mine is static so im not sure if it will have good power to dig stumps out, so i want your opinions. I want something to dig stumps. I have a grapple bucket for my tractor.

    • @LouisianaTractorworks
      @LouisianaTractorworks  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Caroline, for the comment! That's a hard one! lol I don't know why it seems lacking in power. Do they make a subframe backhoe for your tractor? You don't want to put a 3Pt BH on a tractor. I guess you could use the mini x to dig and the grapple to move and load. As long as you don't need both on the same job. It might be hard to trailer them both. You really need to weigh the pros and cons to all scenario and base a decision off that info. Wish I could have been more help! Have a good one and best of luck!

      Thanks Jon, for the comment! When looking for a tractor. Look at what jobs (now and in the future) you need the tractor to do the most. What size it needs to be and what implements you will need to use. If you are going to use a lot of 3pt equipment or pulling equipment you might want the bigger tractor depending on the horsepower! If you are going to be doing a lot of digging then the TLB might be what you want to get! I hope this helps and keep me updated!!

    I have the CG 1710 . Nice Little tractor But a Few Workmen ship issues on the tractor , being Evidently the tractor Manufacture has a poor inspection program as I have spent many hours Retightening and Replacing Loose Bolts that have fallen out , the mower deck Height adjustment mechanism has actually Fell apart and is located were it is almost impossible too access . so buying a belly mower was a waste money , But in all I like the little 1710 out side some the workmanship issues , I would suggest anyone buying A small Massey Ferguson too keep and eye on the Hardware on the Machine . as i use this tractor seldom when i started seeing the issue was to late as it was out warranty and dealer would not stand behind the issues. the tractor only has 50 hours on it . In all I like the tractor and would buy again . I have a 271 Massey farm tractor that bought 1999 seen plenty work never have had a problem with it reason i bought the 1710 . All have great day
