According to the official lego page it says "Remove the roof of your creation to admire the interior columns and arches, and lift off the towers to take a closer look inside." so that is hopeful.
Probably the only church we will ever see from LEGO.
The Taj Mahal is also a religious building, which was also a set, not for its relifious-ness, but for the architecture. this falls under that umbrella.
Well, that's right. It is about architecture, not about its church...ness. I think their rule is that there will never be a City or a Friends set that is a "Church" set the way they have a "Police Station" set.
I have no problem if it turns out you have to pause the build to enjoy the historical stages. If you're into the source material, you're into the history, and to be able to replicate that history is definitely added value. After all, for the build to follow the historical stages and still look good, accurate and with correct colors mid-build is likely not the easiest build sequence they could have developed.
In the Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night" there is a church too
Now do the Hagia Sofia
This might be the first Architecture set I consider buying.
hope they now do a range of cathedrals! Cologne, Sagrada Família!
Architecture fans have to wait so long between releases nowadays. This one seems worth the wait though
I looked at a designer presentation. You can easily remove the roof and the upper parts of the two towers but you can't see into it very well. The interesting part is that the build is in chronological order with information about the build included [according to the designer] which does sound really cool to me. The accuracy is also impressive. For example the buttresses are just as many as there are in real life.
I feel like it's fine to show the inside. Architecture sets typically have a hint of an interior but don't have removable tops.
Well, Lego have produced quite a few East Asian temples over the years and one could potentially argue that those were buildings of religious worship.
The same could go for certain sets from Johnny Thunder and the Adventurers theme of theirs.
As to the "church" thing, Lego might consider this a historic site, the great pyramid after all is a tomb, a religous site and they already did that.
Probably the only Lego set that has that big a gap in between the price and the pieces
Great set!!! 😊😊
As a churchgoer, I think you can definitely make a distinction between an identifiable real-world church that is architecturally significant and a generic church as a playset.
There's no objective place to draw the line - did anyone complain about the Taj Mahal or the Pyramids? They were both religiously inspired. How about the Collosseum?
It's a beautiful building, tastefully done in Lego. I like this a lot.
YES! This is a great looking set! Love Notre Dame.
Instant buy for me
There's a church as well in the Venice city skylines set -- Basilica San Marcos. Kinda needed to include since it's a main piece of architecture in the main square of the city.
Well its all about the architecture and not about the worship. Taj Mahal is also a place of worship. I like this one a lot such an iconic building. It looks so spot on. And love to see this kind of a price tag and that it has no stickers.
Thanks for the video.
I just stumbled across this channel but I love this Bob Ross voice.
It's amazing, just wish there was a microfigure Quasimodo secretly in the bell tower.
Lego is also anti violence and military, but they produced the coliseum for $500 bucks which is literally a battleground for slaves and gladiators to fight and kill each other. They’re not going for the church angle they’re going for the world famous instantly recognizable historical structure
I love gothic architecture and this is one of the best examples, I’m so glad to see this and I hope they do more sets like this, such as other cathedrals or castles like Neuschwanstein
If this opens the door for more religious buildings to become sets, then I really wanna see a Lego architecture Hagia Sophia
Morning in Paris, the city awakes
To the bells of Notre Dame
The fisherman fishes, the bakerman bakes
To the bells of Notre Dame
You make good points: if Lego is going to say/imply, "It's primarily an architectural wonder" and brush aside the fact that it's a sacred building, then why not start making tank and warship sets like Cobi and say, "Well, they're just vehicles"? For my part, I'd gladly have Lego go down both those slippery slopes if it resulted in more diversity of themes and building experiences: churches, mosques, temples, tanks, bombers, subs....
It looks amazing but I'm disappointed by the lack of gargoyles. There's the little green nanofigures by the spire, but nothing beyond that. The gargoyles on the front of the building are so iconic, it really feels like something is missing. I know part of the reasons it was hard to do is the scale that the building is at. However, maybe some stickers might have helped but likely would have required some sort of new piece, which is perhaps why they didn't do it.
I'm definitely going to get this set but I think I will try to make some modifications to have something where the gargoyles should be.
A highly detailed oriented landmark set at resonable cost range, WOOHOO!! The exact kind of set that got me interested in this lego theme in the first place. Take my money.
This set is 🔥
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They built the Taj Mahal as well which is technically a mosque. I would love the Hasan II and Blue Mosque to me made one day. I have a passion for Islamic architecture. And I have seen those plus Notre Dame in person (before it burned down). I have fond memories of a family trip to France when I was 11, and turned 12 in France on the trip.
Lego did a fantastic job with Notre Dame. I had no idea what they would do. It's hard to be comfortable with the price for me only because I don't spend that kind of msrp on a single Lego set. It may be worth the price for a change, but it's still hard to see a toy or a hobby item cost over $200 regardless. I was raised frugal on hobbies and things. I definitely want to get it next year, but I may use points to help me stomach the cost more. I remember my first year as an afol shocked a Lego set coat $100, let alone 200 or even 850 lol.
I think it would be cool if they did a series of sets for the 7 Wonders of the World. I know they kinda already did a pyramid a few years ago but, I think it would be awesome to see a Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Colossus of Rhodes, or a Lighthouse of Alexandria
Looks nice, hoping for a cheaper architecture set as well
i thought the elephant in the room was that it burned down lol
That's the best LEGO Architecture set I've ever seen. Epic!
Love the Cathedral!
I think the roof just sits on the 1x4 fence pieces so it's easly removable.
St Paul’s cathedral next
Brings back memories from my last trip. Very good value and would look beautiful with a light kit.
3:25 this is why I love Jang. Where else are you going to get a Lego reviewer persistently clowning a model for his manbun?
I have no problem with the price for what you're getting but I feel like Lego has merged the Architecture line with the old Creator Expert landmarks subtheme. Like we used to get sets like Big Ben and Tower Bridge with 4000 pieces for around this price and Architecture sets were fewer than 100 pieces sometimes. Now it feels like those types of landmark sets are a part of Architecture and Icons landmarks have been supersized.
It looks to me like it’s possible to remove some of the build. Looks like some jumper techniques are being used to make it easier to remove it.
Does it come with flame pieces?
Thanks for the news update and information JANG! I’m interested in this so I’ll probably get the set
If they will do the Taj Majal, they can do Norte Dame
Oh i have been waiting for years for a Notre Dame lego set. And its worth the wait apperently. I thing it is sort of modular judging from the box. This way we can see the interior hopefully.
I wonder if that long view comes from popping off the circular window in between the two towers.
Love at first sight 😍 best architecture set. Great work from Rok Žgalin Kobe
I agree, I think them showing the set partially disassembled in the listing is kinda weird. I'm not necessarily opposed to it, but I think it would've been less jarring if they had kept the parts of the build that didn't obstruct the view, but then greyed them out. Sort of like how in some of the manuals when you get to a new bag, and the picture shows the part you're about to build in full color, and the parts you've already build in grey.
I think that the top-down image at 6:18 is the actual removable roof view (the roof comes off while the towers remain intact and there are no connecting studs shown).
It looks incredible!
This is absolutely stunning!
It looks fantastic!
Beautiful!❤
I think with basic mods while building the model, the whole roof should be able to be lifted off the top. I'm thinking those skinny, flat plate bricks on top of some the stud pieces near the top? I guess...
10/10 will probably have to buy
Hopefully LEGO will get over themselves then and make a church for the Winter Village line which is a GLARING omission from a winter village scene. Hey, anybody remember set #309??????
Incredible!
Cool set!
Something like Mecca in the far future is possible?
Oh this is nice and my dad will love it too.
already getting ideas for how to modify it, like use 1x1s for the floor tiles and get pieces to add the organ
I think it looks great. My wife and I generally only buy buildings we have visited in person. Kind of a buildable memory.
honestly. i think showing partially built pics of sets is a great idea. lets people get a good idea of what they're in for, which i'm sure people appreciate on the more complex sets, or would have loved to know with that one R2
I prefer this type of Lego architecture set to those overpriced skyline ones, it looks beautiful for display
I feel like the pic at 3:11 is what is intended to be removed to see inside
I think it’s fine to show the stages of the build, even if it gets sealed up at the end. It’s part of the build you’re getting into
Yes minifgure trophy in Sand green finally, i can add those sculptures to my black Pearl MOC!
I had the same reaction. Apparently Lego only follows their own rules when it suits them. I don’t mind that they made it though.
This is incredible to see in Lego form. Definitely would consider buying if I had a proper place to display it. Will be interesting to see the build and exactly the sections can be conveniently lifted off. There's no way Lego would put that much effort into the interior if it wasn't somewhat accessible.
I mean all of the jumper pieces suggest to me that at least part of that roof will be removeable
The real thing still hasn't reopened yet since it burned down a few years back lol.
As Lego is doing religious buildings now, would love to have a would love to have a Al-Masjid al-Haram set (Grand Mosque in Mecca). Various B-brands offer some sort of version, but way off to what Lego offers quality wise.
Apparently you build it in the stages the real one was built in. So those pictures of it partially complete are showing that.
Pre ordered!
I've been to notre dame, I like that they went all in on the interior. this is a must buy for me... not really interested in any of the Harry Potter castles, but this? yes, definetly.
Will lego donate some of the profit to its restoration?
A dark cologne cathedral to go with this lighter notre dame would be very nice.
I know I'm late to this, but I really like this set. It's probably the one architecture set I would consider getting. I just don't know if I would get it for over $200 (even if it's not a bad deal).
Great. Now do Westminster Abbey.
Now Lego can make a synagogue
Just got a hyperscape flash back
It seems like every year, they slowly walk back on their rules that they have been so strict about in past years.
With the new 18+ branding, they have changed their target demographics. I expect within the next 5 or 10 years, we receive a licensed set likely from Ideas that’s based on an R-rated movie or MA-rated show.
Within the next 25-50 years, I see them producing historical military-based sets.
Chartes cathedral next please
I wonder if next they'll do like Hagia Sofia and this is just to feel out if people actually are fine with certain religious buildings.
I’d rock it
Wow
I WANT
This doesn’t seem like a violation of the no church policy to me. Or it seems like a very appropriate one time exception. Partly because this building burned down and you can’t even see it in all its glory in real life right now. Seems like a good time to appreciate the architecture of it through Lego. I commend the company on making this set.
The second pronunciation made me laugh far harder than it should have. Excited for more sets further in the line even if this one doesn't particularly appeal to me.
Do the Mont st Michel !
It has a lot of parts because they are all really small!!
ooooh mama this is lookin nice
I will readily admit that my admiration for this particular building has nothing to do with its real historical significance, but rather, that it's the centerpiece of my favorite Disney film.
Is this going to be like the technic Bell Boeing V2 Ospery
Solid French accent from Jang ngl
Instant cop for sure
SANCTUARY!
So is the cross on the Batman skyline a church or is it supposed to be a hospital?
The reason they have the “half-built pictures” is because you build it in the order in which the building was constructed which is pretty awesome.
Im super excited about this - I went to art school before I became a Christian. It was ironically super non-christian, but you spent a ton of time studying churches and cathedrals. Now not only am I a christian but a licensed minister. Im not catholic, but this is probably as close as it will ever get to see any portion of my faith represented in lego which is my hobby. Cant wait to have this displayed on the shelf next to my church history books & commentaries.
didn't Lego already do the Taj Mahal though
