    The drumming is spectacular.

    Jimi had all the guitarists so worried when he first started, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton. Townshend called up Clapton when he heard Jimi play and said, "We have a problem". Now you know why. EFFORTLESS GREATNESS!

    •  29 днів тому

      The laughable thing was Pete thought he was amongst Clapton, Beck, Page, Alvin Lee and especially Jimi.
      Pete was a theatrical "rhythm guitarist" NOT a lead guitarist.
      That's what Pete such a clown

    • @JB-Deadskins
      @JB-Deadskins 27 днів тому +2

      What's laughable is that you would call Pete Townshend a clown.🙄

    • @jvs333
      @jvs333 27 днів тому

      @@JB-DeadskinsPete was a typical not above average “rhythm” guitar player. He was NOT a “lead” guitarist. And the comical fact that he thought of himself as equal to Hendrix Clapton Page Beck or any other “lead” guitarist of the era is what makes its comical (clown).
      He was an exaggerated theatrical (windmill) Rhythm guitarist. His inflated ego wanted to be in a guitarist league he wasn’t in.
      Lead and rhythm are two different guitar skills.
      The Who had no “lead” guitarist .
      So start by facts not personal liking. The Who were a good creative band but Pete was no “lead” guitarist and the fact that he wanted to compare himself to Hendrix or Clapton is in itself laughable

      @merciansupremacy5113 13 днів тому

      He has stated that he was fully aware that he didn't have the technical ability they had. However it's disingenuous and/or ignorant to dismiss the major influence of Townshend's playing style on rock music to this very day. Hendrix even recognised the onstage power of The Who.

    •  13 днів тому

      @@merciansupremacy5113
      the issue with Townsend was he constantly tried to place himself as an equal to Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Albert Lee and other "lead" guitarists of his peers,
      Pete was a rhythm guitarist of average skills (nothing unique like let's say John Lennon who was highly creative and imaginative with chords and his own made up arrangements.
      Pete's claim to fame was his theatrics and destroying equipment. The Who as a band wrote some really good music.
      But musically (musicianship) Townsend was out of his league trying to place himself amongst the great "lead" guitarists of his day. His ego was so delusional he once claimed the Beatles ripped him off for the idea of a four piece rock band, this despite the Beatles were playing 12hr shows in Hamburg 7 nights as week before there ever was a "The Who".
      Pete's delusional ego was why no one ever took him personally seriously. The Who was a serious band of the day but Pete was a delusional blowhard.
      Hendrix recognizing Pete's theatrics does not equate with musicianship skills or talents. Pete was average as a rhythm guitarists with an over inflated narcissistic ego. That said it doesn't take away anything from the group (The Who) as a whole, who produced some important music in its day

    Jimi was one another level to everyone else. His debut album is to my mind the greatest debut album of all time. I can't think of another artist who made a debut of such astonishing quality and influence. It's impact and influence has echoed through the decades that followed.

    I bought this album in 1985 when I was 17 because of a couple other songs on it. The moment I heard 'Love Or Confusion 'it instantly became my favorite song on this album. Never understood why it wasn't more popular. Love it still.

    "Sounds like grunge". Jimi was from Seattle. Maybe he had a time machine - with Jimi, anything was possible. He was always well ahead of his time. The "Experienced?" and "Electric Ladyland" albums are 100% classics, and "Axis: Bold as Love" isn't far below that.

    It's not that he couldn't play it the same way twice, it's that he didn't. He could IMPROVISE. They rehearsed the tunes, solos and all and played them tight for the first year, then Jimi got bored (after hundreds of shows) so he began improvising a lot more within the songs, so ya, he never really played anything the same way twice because he did a lot of improvising, freestyling whole songs and solos, part of why he's the greatest. He was a musical genius composer and player, he could just feel it out, whereas it takes some whole bands years to work out songs.

      One of the best improvisational artists in the business. And, yes, he knew, very well, compositions on paper as he started his career in Jazz.

    I saw Jimi Hendrix in San Francisco as a young teen, a wild show, and at the Monterey Pop Festival. Another wild few days! He was mesmerizing. I’ve lived thru the best times for music. I see others asking for Crosstown Traffic. Yes! Thanks for this. 🎸🇺🇸

    Bought this album the day it was available. Still a favorite today. You’re absolutely right about his ability or inability to reproduce live what was his recorded works. I truly love ALL of his studio work with “The Experience” and always recommend it to first time listeners ahead of live performances. But it’s all more than worth the time. Good on ya for this one Biz…. Try “Stone Free” and “Crosstown Traffic.” I think you’ve already done “Manic Depression.” 🤘🍻

    2:18 - Jimi makes his guitar sound like a Harley. Over half a century later people still can't figure out how he did it all without today's technology. The answer? Pure, one of a kind genius. Check out "House Burning Down." Jimi was at the top of his game. 🎸

    His first album is really hard. This is about as hard as anyone rocked in 1967. He gets more mellow after this one, though there are hard rockers on the following albums as well.

    This is a brilliant song, so deep, so innovative especially for 1967, so well done.
    It makes me think of Miles Davis and a collaboration discussed but never consummated. I've heard that they did play together but no recording exists to my knowledge. As Davis noted, “I had started using the wah-wah pedal with my trumpet consistently, aiming to emulate the distinct voice Jimi produced when he used the wah-wah with his guitar“

    Groovy! As for the rest, nobody plays a guitar solo the same way twice, even technically easy guitar solos built from half notes and quarter notes. That someone pointed that out to you about Hendrix suggests to me that person was trying to downplay his importance, make him seem amateurish or some such.

    This was way before Grunge. This was Psychedelic. The influence of LSD was huge upon many musicians and consequently their music. Early Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, the Byrds, and many others were included. LSD was second only to weed then and only outlawed in 1968, although it remained popular for years afterwards. Jimi and da Biz are always welcome. 🙂

    If you can find it from the Electric Ladyland Album, listen to the long version, not the short version of Voodoo Chile. It is a one album side jam with Jack Casady on Bass and Steve Winwood on Keyboards. Also, to see the incredible writing talents of Hendrix, listen to the whole Axis Bold as Love Album. BTW, Hendrix was a Army Paratrooper. Also, Hendrix started out in the R&B World with folks like The Isley Brothers and Little Richard and Earl King.

    His best album IMO, burned all the way through. I hadn't heard this in a dogs age, almost forgot about it. I don't know how, I only listened to it 10 thousand times when I was a young'un. Nothing else at the time even came close. Other bands were beginning to use feedback and distortion but Jimi was the only one who could turn it into music
