There is a dedication to Jimi Hendrix on the album cover. "James Marshall Hendrix". By this time Hendrix was fed up with the music he had been playing and wanted to try something new. One that got the rumours flying was joining to what became Emerson, Lake & Palmer. On the other hand, Hendrix had been in backing groups so he perhaps had the discipline.
@@melissa9375 I've been a fan of Stills since the beginning. He has a lot of other good solo tracks, but the guitar solo on this track makes it stand out as against the others. My second favorite on this album is "Black Queen," which is just Stills and his acoustic guitar.
Scott - Great submission choice. This album was one of my favorite Stills solo albums. Stills was a very skilled guitarist (usually acoustic) and I would also recommend "Black Queen", "Treetop Flyer" and his cover of The Beatles treasure, "In My Life". Very well played Scott and Harri.👏👏
Harri there are many lovely tracks on this allbum and this one is a great song with cool backing vocals/organ and of course Jimi being tastefully restrained with great licks before that full break and brilliant organ interplay. Also has the popular 'Love the one you're with' and the gospel Sit Yourself Down' elsewhere on the album.
Jimi was a great blues player. Not just psychedelic music. Check Jimi out playing at the Cafe Au Go Go in New York Live 1968 Jimi Plays The Blues. Some great musicians played in this jam.
Haven't heard this one for decades, but one of my Stills favorites. The short song length stems from commercial radio stations at the time reluctance to give air time to songs >3.5 minutes long.
This was NEVER going to go on the radio; not in 1970. Stills had enough material that he couldn't make longer songs and fit them all in. It could go on for a long time live, but then again, it wasn't Stills playing as many of the instruments or Hendrix, so it was very good, but not this. Personally, I don't like jams - this is tasty and tight. Just right.
Stills was absolutely no slouch on guitar himself.
This ENTIRE album is fantastic!
The background singers is nearly a supergroup by itself. Really good album.

Glad to see the great Steven Stills getting some love. (I love Jimi too.) These guys were pals. I wish I could have seen their jams...
Great album by Stephen and you can hear Jimi!!! Fantastic Scott and Harri.
Every track on that album is good. - Scott 😊
If you want to hear Hendrix play clean, try Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, and Bold as Love, all from his second album Axis: Bold as Love.
Wow, I've been a monster sized fan of Jimi's and have never heard this! Thanks for posting!
This is maybe the best song of Stills' solo career, thanks to Jimi Hendrix.
Stills is playing bass... organ... percussion... guitar also. And you think it is only his best song because of Hendrix???

Love it.
Got this album in 1970 when I was 15, now it's on my phone along with Manassas!
Eric Clapton is also on the album, Think I'll Go Back Home, very good.
Amazingly, Harri already covered Go Back Home and Black Queen !
Aha! Great ! One of my personal favorite semi-deep cuts. Love it! Thanks for putting this great track out there. ❤❤❤❤❤
I've not heard it before.
So good.
Heavily Stills.

The number of better electric guitarists on the planet can be managed with one hand.

Great song! Probably been 50 years since I've heard this one! Didn't know about Jimi playing on it.

Glad you enjoyed this one Harri. 😊
