The Alamo was "quickly overwhelmed"? What! Travis and his men held out against Santa Anna's army for 13 days before the Alamo fell. Those brave men fought on, knowing full well that their chances of survival were slim. Their deeds should never be forgotten.

Cos and crew walked out&away from that compound after the minor skirmishes there and in san antonio.Cos went home and Santa Ana wanted 'redemption" for his brother in law cos and his army. the gringos had been invited by Mexican gov't basically to be a bloody buffer between the amazing Comanche and Apache, and i don't blame them a bit. The "Cossacks of the Plains" were handing Santa Ana's army their asses. And yeah, the gringos got their butts whomped by them as well. the men in the Alamo, for the most part, were educated people...lawyers, doctors(tho "doctor" by definition back was a whole looser than today)...Some historians try to simplify this revolution by hanging the slavery tag around the settler's necks, and to a small, certain degree that's correct. The american settlers were viewed as being hypocritical by ruling Mexican gov't.:: "Perfidious foreigners who walk around with their Constitution in their back pocket!" was one quote i had read...The Seige, i believe, is suffering thru over simplification by factions today. When a person digs into the Truth, and refines and sharpens their focus, looking at the Defenders...they'll see some fairly amazing feats of determination and mind-set that we're sorely in need of and in greater amounts:: Almeron Dickerson's hell-bent ride back to the Powers, begging for assistance for the mission...Same can be said for Crockett: $9yrs old, and health failing,(he suffered terribly from probably dysentery and possibly malaria...Crockett made an amazing endurance ride, trying to use his name/reputation to attract more defenders. While he could have just kept on riding, going back to houston's camp...he didn't. There were outstanding feats on both sides~~slainte'!!

+Jason Garcia (JerichoholicY2J) actually the Mexicans invited settlers from America. once in Texas the Mexicans realized how more american Texas was becoming and they didn't like it. the Mexicans didn't follow their own rules and disobeyed the law and treated the Texans unfairly. that's why the rebellion started. If America was stealing land Texas wouldn't have been an independent nation for nearly 10 years. you need to read up on your history. now the Mexican American war...ya I see how America invaded. but why be butt hurt about it now? many nations including mexico invaded other countries simply for land. so pull up your pants stop crying and REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!

Gee I wonder where the Mexicans got that land in the first place, oh that is right conquistadors from Spain stole it from central American natives, and then Mexico stole it from Spain. Mexico fought a war against Texacian rebels and lost. They captured Santa Anna effectively the man in charge of Mexico, if had they wanted to they could have invaded Mexico virtually unopposed and claimed the whole damn thing (especially if the union gave support, at that point they probably would have). Instead they claimed what was rightfully theirs and declared it an independent nation. Just like the Mexicans had done from Spain just over a decade before. So get off your high horse you hypocrite fucktard.

President Santa Anna dissolved the state of Tejas and absorbed it into the state of Coahuila, and introduced racial purity quotas that limited the number of new Anglo-American settlers in Texas. He also wanted to abolish slavery in all of northern Mexico, and he ripped up the constitution of 1824, declaring himself emperor, stylized as “Napoleon of the West.” Texas was one of 11 rebellions across Mexico that resulted, but was the only one to succeed. We did not initially seek independence but the restoration of the old constitution. After that became impossible, our new strategy was to try to be stably independent, and apply for statehood in the United States (which was initially rejected because at the time the United States did not want a war with Mexico). After it was accepted in 1845, the United States clashed with Mexican forces in disputed territory north of the Rio Grande, starting the Mexican-American War. The U.S. conquered Mexico City, and Mexico was forced to concede all land from Colorado to California, nearly completing the United States as we know it, and fulfilling Manifest Destiny.

The vast fields of the Ukraine will only pertain to Europe for the U.S. will not commit to Ukraine's defense without Nato. And they're unwilling to help because Europe depends on Russia's natural gas. As so far as cinema history, Holloywood for years has exploited War as a way to stir the audience and their pocketbook. Walt told the story of one man and the legend that surrounded him. He didn't die swinging old Betsy at a bunch of Mexicans nor did he blow up the arsenal after being lanced. He most likely surrenderd and was executed after many of the Generals wanted Crockett to be spared. Santa Ana thought it would send a message of fear.It back fired. The Siege of the Alamo took 13 days. San Jacinto took under 30 minutes and the Texians were as ruthless as the Mexicans.

The battle at the Alamo was not a siege of 13 days for keeripe sakes! The time it took to dispense the defenders of the Alamo was under an hour! The delay of time before the final surge was a tactical move by Santa Ana to wear down the defenders as he had known that the defenders were a miserable lot lacking in training, food, dry powder, clothing and a will to fight...! The leaders, Travis, Crockett and Bowie were cowards! Travis took the cowardly way out and committed suicide, Crockett was assassinated, Bowie was killed in his quarters fearing to confront the action outside even though he was reportedly ill.

Remember that there were 253 Alamo defenders, over 90% of them were dangerous armed illegal invaders from the states. They came to rob, rape and steal, and they did! The Texas War of 1836 was just a simple old land grab by illegal aliens from the states. Crockett surrendered to the Mexican soldiery, only to be executed moments later. Ttavis committed suicide at the north wall, when he saw all was lost. Bowie died while hiding under his bed mattress-what a heroic trinity! The San Jacinto Massacre did not destroy the Mexican army, only its vanguard of 1200 men. It was General Filisola who ordered the rest of the army back to Matamoros, to be resupplied for the next Texas campaign.

Santa Anna was not just the president he was a dictator! Texas was not the only Mexican state in Rebellion, there were five others. Restoration of the 1824 Constitution is what was wanted. Texas and other states would be content Mexican citizens if this happened. He also murdered hundreds of prisoners at Goliad. After the murders and the continuing instability and rebellions that continued for years in Mexico. Texans and Tejanos decided Independence was better. Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!

The Alamo was quickly overwhelmed by Mexican troops, the skirmish only lasted between 30 to 45 minutes. that's why Santa Anna called it, "It was but a small affair" because it was! Travis committed suicide at the north wall when he saw all was lost, and Crockett surrendered, only to be killed in moments...some heroes!

You're right. Mexicans did not fight against slavery! They tried to prevent it in Mexico(Tejas) according to their constitution of 1929 which abolished slavery. There was no compromise as it was clearly spelled out in their constitution. Imperialistic proclivities, greed, self-interests of Texian leaders led to the battle of the Alamo in a roundabout way as it just so happen.
