When I grew up in Texas we spent an entire semester of my history class covering the revolution we had against Mexico, but I don't remember us covering a lot else about US history. I never really learned the specifics about things like the Civil War, the American Revolution, and the World Wars in any great detail until I moved to Arizona in the 4th grade. Perhaps we would have been taught them later and the curriculum was just different, but I just found it interesting nonetheless.
Mexico: "We don't want you to own slaves." Texas: _”mmmmm”_ Mexico: "We're a dictatorship now and want you to obey the central government." Texas: "Oh thank christ that sounds so much better." _declares independence_
Ah yes, let us just ignore how Santa Ana established a authoritarian unitary regime with civil and political rights for even Mexicans getting the shaft and let us just ignore Santa Ana's twisted dream of forming a single Mexican national identity with all other cultures and people's within Mexico that do not fit Santa Ana's exact vision of a Mexican being treated like second class citizens, Sure the Texan Revolution had *nothing* to do with all that, nah it was about *muh slavery*
The worst things were slavery, the massacres of people from both sides. It wasn't pretty at all. Not to mention the native Texans (Lipan Apaches, etc.), who were probably almost exterminated before.
@@LookBackHistory The Texas governor just forced a museum to cancel an exhibition on the real history behind the Alamo because the local mythology is tied up in a Romantic notion of brave Texans fighting for the American Way, not illegal immigrants importing slavery.
