What a good video about Daniel Boone. Daniel Boone was such a heroic man in United States history. The Cumberland Gap also catches my eye. This gap in the Allegheny Mountains is such a historic place. Another feature that in the vicinity of the Cumberland Gap is the Cumberland Gap Tunnel. It is a highway tunnel that carries U.S. Route 25 East under the Allegheny Mountains. The tunnel was opened to traffic on October 18, 1996.

The legendary Daniel Boone was born 280 years ago today. Foreboding mountains? Unforgiving wilderness? Relentless hunters? They were no match for him. Learn about Boone’s exploits here: bit.ly/1uhx16M

Why put a link to a video that turns out to be the very same video? That doesn't make sense.

At the outset of the French and Indian War, two future American legends were teamsters (wagoners) who accompanied Braddock on his march to Ft Duquesne: Daniel Boone and Daniel Morgan. And yes, George Washington was there too!

I am saddened that this small video did not say where Boone was taken when captured. For those who are interested it was old town ohio on route 68 just above xenia ohio. They also failed to mention that Boone became part of that indian tribe, but betrayed the tribe and escaped to save his family in Booneville

The Reconstruction of the Fort is not on the original site, original site is down by the Kentucky River they moved it up on the hill that wouldn't get flooded like the old site that. You can still see the outline if you go to Boonesborough Park.

I have been told that most of Daniel Boone's trail makers were from Rutherford County NC. Is there a list of the members of his party?

Actually the reconstructed fort is a couple of miles away from the site of the original. Also the reconstruction was built in an era when accuracy was not given the importance it is now. The original site is on the river bank, near the playground and camping area. There is a large rock monument there. The U. of Ky has done several archaeological studies of the original site over the years.

He settled on land that was in use by natives. When they attacked the camp, the natives were simply defending their land. Boone was not a hero, but an unwanted guest. The victors write history. So sad.

These Smithsonian clips! A most unsatisfying production, when they have enough money to foster the public with full films and accurate information.
Establishment owns everything and they seek to profit, while misleading.
It could be irritating - but it is changing, in spite of their Egos.
