2017 Personal Best Lap at Nelson Ledges Road Course (Harold's Clock)

- This was my personal best lap at Nelson Ledges Road Course in 2017. It's from a motorcycle track day on Oct. 7, and I'm riding my 2009 Ducati 848. I'm using video plug-in 'Harold's Clock' to display the lap time. It's hard to notice, but check out the big slide I had on the last turn (you can see the 'black mark' from the tire on the track in the middle of the last turn before I let off the gas to end the session).
If you've watched some of my older videos from this track, you'll notice that it was newly paved in 2017. It is now much easier to ride faster... Enjoy!

I can remember back when the track was really bumpy 1:16 on a liter bike with slicks was fast enough to win races circa 1987. Years later at Fastraxx I could do 1:11-1:12 on a TZ250.
Yeah, you can see on some of my older videos how bumpy it used to be... it may have been even bumpier back in the day! You'd have a great time riding there now!

not bad for missing all the Apex’s..Just consider this. I got around Nelson ledges on a 28 hp RD 250 with a drum brake, 1:19, That machine had a top speed of about 95 miles an hour, on bias tires.. I won my class championship four years in a row, I also won the AMA national championship class 0 to 410 cc on my 250 which was bone stock here..
that was a long long time ago. And I can say one thing about racing, if you are serious, it is not fun. You have no friends. When you walk into a riders meeting, everyone goes quiet after you start winning championships. You start getting protested..
I miss it, but it was never fun

Awesome lap! Your bike and riding is DIALED. Are you still using the EVR slipper clutch?
Yes, I'm still using the EVR slipper clutch and love it! However, I still occasionally blip the throttle like I did in this video at the 0:30 mark...
More maintenance videos. How did you learn how to work on your own bike?
I'm hoping to get more maintenance videos uploaded as soon as the weather warms up, my garage is like a freezer right now... as far as learning how to work on my own bike, many years ago I attended a automechanics school, but really learned bikes by jumping in after my factory warranties expired.
He brings up a good point. I'm about to get hit with a $1,700 bill from the dealership for rear wheel bearing replacement (hub & axel). I never knew that bearings would last so short on the Ducati 848. I have the 2009 model with 17,000 miles and I have a bunch of play in the rear wheel and I really feel it on the highway. After watching some of your videos, I think I could possibly do it on my own but I'm missing some of the equipment (decent torque wrench 5-120 lbs cost $120). Regardless, I think for someone that races their bike frequently on the track like yourself has to either spend a lot of money with a shop prepping the bike or work on it on their own. Anyways, thanks for all the videos and really appreciate it!!!!
