i would love to see some tutorials on the designs you’ve done! Especially those very intricate easter egg ones! Thanks a bunch for this incredible video! I feel confident trying it myself now ^-^
This is the MOST useful video I've come across for dyeing wheels. THANK YOU! I would have loved to see a timelapse or more of your process to do cool designs like the ones you have showed and how long you let them in to achieve those gradients on each dip. I just got my synthetic dyes and fixative and will be dyeing some white luminous wheels, can't wait!
This might possibly be the best wheel dying video on the UA-cams. I've definitely seen a lot of those pale color skate wheels around. Very curious about those fancy-pants wheels.
I am going to dye my daughters Anabolix wheels. This is the only video I have found that says NOT to use boiling water. The wheels were quite costly, so I definitely don't want to ruin them! I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. So far, this is the most informative video I have found! This is also the only video I have seen so far that mentions using the color stay fixative!
Nice one - I didn't know you could do this until I found a post about it on Reddit today - really hope you'll make a video about how you made some of the more complex patterned ones you showed, they looked amazing!
Clothing companies use mordants that make the materials dye ready. So its likely the fixative should be soaked into the urethane prior to dyeing, but the dye should be applied immediately after the fixative soaks in. Then the dye should set and lock into the material. I'm not sure if you've tried this, but I'm thinking that would work! Send me some feedback if you're able.
I've been having fun dying wheels and recently bought a pot to dye over heat. I'm gonna get some wheels to try your method of NOT boiling and using only dye.
Loved the video!! I would love to see how you got the more painted designs with the dye! I have a pair of fundae wheels I love skating on but they are just SO BORING color wise. Looking to give them a makeover soon.
Awesome video. I have a few questions. 1) How did you make the fine patterns on the wheels? 2) What happens if you don't remove the logos/print from the wheel. (I'd like to keep these details on mine) 3) For the Colorstay - do you use that straight too or do you mix it with water?
I want to dye my wheels in a soft lilac color. Would you still reccomend using it straight from the bottle? Or would it be better to dilute it with water?
Hi Joy. It's all a balance. Diluted gives you a wider window for getting the perfect tone. Full strength will go fast. I just wouldn't dilute too much to make sure you get the color you want. I've left wheels in overnight before, so it pays to be patient to get what you want!
I only needed a quarter of the bottle in a pan of water and it was a strong color in a few minutes! I did boil the water though. And the color kept darkening a little after rinsing it off with cold water.
Hi Nicole. It's just a matter of resisting each layer of dye with tape, wax, glue, etc. And adding more areas of resist each time it gets another color. I just haven't found the perfect resist yet. If I ever get it right I'll show my failures, too!
do u think this would work with inline shells? i tried dyeing my “them 908” skates after reading about folks having success with it. it didn’t work for me but now i see maybe that’s cuz i used the regular dye and maybe diluted too much
Hi Lincoln. You can get a good black by layering. Dye the wheels a deep blue/purple/red first, then do a round of the graphite. Then black will be nice and dark. How did yours end up looking?
@@thegrandmarquis I’m thinking about mixing powder with the Rit dye more to give it a pearlescent look. Was that sapphire blue dye that you used on the yellow, white and blue wheel?
It's all additive, so white works best, but you can always try it out. Dye will add pigment to whatever base color you start with, but it won't add any white. Dye will show best on lighter colors and only slightly darken a darker wheel. If you want a lighter color to show on a dark wheel, you'll have to resort to paint or a printing ink of some kind.
Yes, Lannie! Usually. I tried Acetone and every other solvent I had in the garage on these wheels, even MEK, which is nasty. Nothing! They got the knife!

Thanks! So fancy-pants. It's coming...
I'm curious about the fancy-pants wheels too! Definately the best dying video I've seen so far! gonna try dying my wheels today!

Great video I haven’t seen anyone have the success you’ve had with dyeing wheels! You need to make a proper tutorial!
Working on it!
@@slowlo888 tutorial?
This is the best wheel dying video. Thank you so much for the thoroughness and advice
Even though I ride a old school cruiser sk8boa5d those colorful wheels are cool
You’re the first person that I’ve seen use the fixative. THANK YOU
ditto. gonna have to get that
Wow I can't believe this video only had 943 views!! Most useful one out there this is great thank you!!!
Wow, thank you!

Can you show us how you do those simple and complex patterns?
yes any more insight on this would be amazing
If only I saw this video BEFORE I bought Rit powder and failed miserably!! thankyou so much for this video, you are super informative!!
YO this was so informative thank you!!!

watching this so i can dye my fundaes hahah
@@extraterrestrialtink7583 nice! Mine turned out great, and I used the fixative, but even then they have started to fade after a couple months
Awesome. Glad yours worked! Yeah, I haven't found the magic formula for permanence. We just have to enjoy them while it lasts!
I would love to see how you made the designs. I absolutely love this video best one I watched so far!!! Can’t wait to experiment myself.
do you know if regular black electrical tape would work as a resist? also have you tried using a dye thickener to paint it on instead of soak?
This is wonderful! So much useful info, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
great video, very interesting patterns
Have you ever tried dying white nylon plates different colors?
This was great. Thanks for making this.
Awesome video. I have a few questions.
1) How did you make the fine patterns on the wheels?

3) For the Colorstay - do you use that straight too or do you mix it with water?
Can I use hot glue or electrical tape to create a "resist" effect?
Ok so……. I’m ready for the more complicated version of wheel dying when it coming ?!! 💖
The question is, if you’re skating outdoors does the color stay?
Do you think those soft semi-clear Tupperware brand lids can be dyed?
I have some rhythm wheels I want to dye. Does it still keep its hardness (97a)?

Coooool❤❤❤
Could I get a few of the mush color wheels. I re purpose skateboard wheels into finger board wheels
Do the wheels have to be white and would it work on grey wheels ?
Do I need the fixative if I’m doin all black?
do you have any idea how to get a marble look?
I can’t find Rit Synthetic Dye in Black. It’s so frustrating. Even their website does not have it in Black. 😢
“Graphite” is as black as it gets. It’s pretty dark.
do u think this would work with inline shells? i tried dyeing my “them 908” skates after reading about folks having success with it. it didn’t work for me but now i see maybe that’s cuz i used the regular dye and maybe diluted too much
What color is the black called? I see a graphite on the site but not a black. Been looking for black wheels forever so i'm gonna do my own.

can we dye black a lighter colour?
No
I left the wheels in for too long now they’re just black anyway I can fix them I had got dark blue and forest green but it’s just black
Más, por favor.
Have you ever used a powdered pigment for this?
No, that could be interesting. Have you?

Try a dry erase marker to remove logo next time
👍
Whats the resin name ,؟
You wouldn’t happen to know a skate wheel witch it called street hub would you

Just started. @here.comes.schatzi
100% acetone removes the print. On most wheels.....
