A few years back I accidentally rediscovered how FUN roller skating is when I ordered a cheap pair off the internet for a halloween costume. It's the best! Since then I've been finding more people to skate with (from Houston to Camden to Cleveland) and more creative possibilities on skates from dancing to derby. Grab some quads, inlines, skates and let's ROLL OUT! I hope we get to skate together soon.
DIY Slide Blocks for Rollerskates?!
Can I make a custom slide block for my park skates in my garage? Yes! Can I actually do rail slides? Hmmm. Finally working on it now that I have blocks!

DIY Dye Rollerskate Wheels Project
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому
Forget easter eggs! Celebrate by custom dying some skate wheels. Actually I always liked dyeing easter eggs, too. But you should still trick out some skate wheels! This would make a great gift for the skater in your life, too. I love customizing things so they don't look exactly like everyone else's. This easy dip-dyeing technique opens up the door to limitless creative possibilities. Are you g...
SKATESKETBALL!! (We Suck At) Basketball on Roller Skates!
Переглядів 1304 роки тому
While going Quarantine Qrazy, we attempt to play basketball on roller skates. What could go wrong? Facing certain death we also strap on our full roller derby gear. Turns out it is really hard to shoot hoops while wearing wrist guards! Subscribe. We're definitely going to be challenging some people once it is safe!
This is the MOST useful video I've come across for dyeing wheels. THANK YOU! I would have loved to see a timelapse or more of your process to do cool designs like the ones you have showed and how long you let them in to achieve those gradients on each dip. I just got my synthetic dyes and fixative and will be dyeing some white luminous wheels, can't wait!
i would love to see some tutorials on the designs you’ve done! Especially those very intricate easter egg ones! Thanks a bunch for this incredible video! I feel confident trying it myself now ^-^
Is it possible to use wood instead of HDPE?
Could I get a few of the mush color wheels. I re purpose skateboard wheels into finger board wheels
Try a dry erase marker to remove logo next time
I am going to dye my daughters Anabolix wheels. This is the only video I have found that says NOT to use boiling water. The wheels were quite costly, so I definitely don't want to ruin them! I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. So far, this is the most informative video I have found! This is also the only video I have seen so far that mentions using the color stay fixative!
Have you ever tried dying white nylon plates different colors?
Skaters just call Sliding, Grinding. Since I believe originally it came first on Skateboards that grinded on their metal trucks or wood deck on stone ledges. Later on when Bladers grinded on plastic frames on metal coping it's really more of a slide, but its called grinding no matter what side you are doing it on. It's always called grinding no matter if you are on Rollerskates, Inline skates, skateboard on BMX. Yet technically you are sliding, you call it grinding because it's cooler that way.
Awesome video. I have a few questions. 1) How did you make the fine patterns on the wheels? 2) What happens if you don't remove the logos/print from the wheel. (I'd like to keep these details on mine) 3) For the Colorstay - do you use that straight too or do you mix it with water?
I have a question about the metal base. how did you get it to bend at the angle it needs.
YO this was so informative thank you!!!
Coooool❤❤❤
I only needed a quarter of the bottle in a pan of water and it was a strong color in a few minutes! I did boil the water though. And the color kept darkening a little after rinsing it off with cold water.
The question is, if you’re skating outdoors does the color stay?
do you know if regular black electrical tape would work as a resist? also have you tried using a dye thickener to paint it on instead of soak?
I can’t find Rit Synthetic Dye in Black. It’s so frustrating. Even their website does not have it in Black. 😢
“Graphite” is as black as it gets. It’s pretty dark.
can we dye black a lighter colour?
No
I have some rhythm wheels I want to dye. Does it still keep its hardness (97a)?
Do I need the fixative if I’m doin all black?
Me and my dad are planning on making a pair for my skates. How’d you find out how big your hada be?
Even though I ride a old school cruiser sk8boa5d those colorful wheels are cool
Clothing companies use mordants that make the materials dye ready. So its likely the fixative should be soaked into the urethane prior to dyeing, but the dye should be applied immediately after the fixative soaks in. Then the dye should set and lock into the material. I'm not sure if you've tried this, but I'm thinking that would work! Send me some feedback if you're able.
What's the size of the EDPE block you've cut?
HDPE works ok, but UHMW is muuuuch better
This is the best wheel dying video. Thank you so much for the thoroughness and advice
Do you think those soft semi-clear Tupperware brand lids can be dyed?
Ok so……. I’m ready for the more complicated version of wheel dying when it coming ?!! 💖
thanks!
do you have any idea how to get a marble look?
I've been having fun dying wheels and recently bought a pot to dye over heat. I'm gonna get some wheels to try your method of NOT boiling and using only dye.
Do the wheels have to be white and would it work on grey wheels ?
Where did you find the hdpe block at? I can only find 2inch thick ones
Can I use hot glue or electrical tape to create a "resist" effect?
Hi! Where I could buy this HDPE block? thanks!
I am so happy that I found this video, I have been wanting to create my own blocks for a while. I am definitely going to try this!!!!
Whats the measurements of the block?
I'm so happy that you put this video together, you're a dang legend my man. At some point in the past I made kicktail guards for my skateboard and I found the giant slab of plastic from that and I got to thinking that I could probably whip some sliders together for my skates with the leftovers from that. Super cool to know I'm not the first, love to see makers in diverse interests
do u think this would work with inline shells? i tried dyeing my “them 908” skates after reading about folks having success with it. it didn’t work for me but now i see maybe that’s cuz i used the regular dye and maybe diluted too much
Do they have to be white to dye or can you re dye a coloured wheel say put pink dye on a red wheel ?.
It's all additive, so white works best, but you can always try it out. Dye will add pigment to whatever base color you start with, but it won't add any white. Dye will show best on lighter colors and only slightly darken a darker wheel. If you want a lighter color to show on a dark wheel, you'll have to resort to paint or a printing ink of some kind.
This was great. Thanks for making this.

I left the wheels in for too long now they’re just black anyway I can fix them I had got dark blue and forest green but it’s just black
👍
great video, very interesting patterns
Have you ever used a powdered pigment for this?
No, that could be interesting. Have you?
@@thegrandmarquis I’m thinking about mixing powder with the Rit dye more to give it a pearlescent look. Was that sapphire blue dye that you used on the yellow, white and blue wheel?
I was trying to do this too! Good job 👏🏼
I would love to see how you made the designs. I absolutely love this video best one I watched so far!!! Can’t wait to experiment myself.
why did u call me out like that in the beginning KFKSDJK great video!
You’re the first person that I’ve seen use the fixative. THANK YOU
ditto. gonna have to get that
If only I saw this video BEFORE I bought Rit powder and failed miserably!! thankyou so much for this video, you are super informative!!
