I went in balls deep when i started rollerblading about 7 months ago with the Seba high light carbons , popped some endless 100 frames on them and off i went. Bit silly like buying a ferrari with no driving skills but i have no regrets , rollerblading has quickly turned into a huge passion and i would have probably ended up upgrading an entry level skate fast so it would have cost me more in the end. Now i got the NR100 frame and waiting to get my hands on a CJ2 prime with intuition liners and probably turn my seba high lights into a flat 80mm setup and see how i like that. Could be fun to mix it up with 2 setups
Danggggggg! Yeah that’s a smart way to go honestly if you can afford it. Definitely depending on the person I might say get something like the flying eagle since they aren’t to expensive and if they end up falling in love with skating they will last a long time. But if they don’t end up sticking with skating then they don’t have a $800 pair of skates collecting dust Your setup sounds awesome though thank you for the input
@@Skating_Squid yeah it was like 2 years of lockdown so i barely spend any money on normal fun things i used to do so might aswell go all in haha. Yeah there are plenty of great entry level skates that you can have fun on for years i bet. One day i will be able to skate as smoothly as you do you great style.
I know this is an old post but I was looking at videos because I just made a crazy purchase and went all in lol…got the FR1 80 Deluxe in white lmfao no skills but here we are I haven’t skated in years…got some pads and a helmet and was like here we go
For people coming back into skating definitely ride flat imo, like recreational to build that muscle back but depending on style of skating if you want in between aggresive and recreational i use FR ufr with oysi frames on undercover wheels but to each their own, i have many set ups for different purposes.....but i recommend new comers to buy quality because first impressions can determine someone's experience, join a rollerblade group and ask mad questions, dont be discouraged.....great video btw 🤘😎🤜💢🤛
as a 27 year old man with size 15 shoes. It's tough for me to find any skates. I heard they have something called the Rollerblade RB Xl. Question for you, i wanna do a mix of street skating and i eventually want to learn for a small skate park. Ramps and all that, given my issue. Do i need different wheels or frames for the park? i wanna purchase quality like you said.
0:47 Don't worry about taking it too seriously! We're on wheels, we can fall & get a fracture % we need to know lol. Plus, skates are expensive. Just imagine wanting to do outdoor skating & spending like 200 on indoor skates & never knowing, just to keep messing up.
I think Tri-skates are great for long distance trail riding where you want to go fast with lot's of momentum to keep you at a high speed as long as you are not doing a lot of technical stuff. Also you will roll over obstacles easier if the surface is less than ideal. For all around riding such as urban environments where you do a lot of technical riding, a 4x80-4x90 setup makes more sense.
I ride a 3x100 and after a week it has a slight natural rocker. I like the way it handles cracks and obstacles and they fly. I only skate for fitness and sometimes just do basic maneuvering including backwards and power slides. I ride a Powerslide Next boot with Endless 90LR frames in 3x100
Hi-Lo setups are high in the back, low in the front. The smaller wheels in the front (theoretically) give you more manueverability. They also give you a naturally leaned forward stance depending on the frame. You can create the same affect with a straight chassis in a number of ways. We used to use 2mm drops per wheel. I've seen a few using 4mm drops per wheel on straights for a very aggressive stance and they did quite well with them.
Skating is the one sport you can get a great workout, do anywhere, really very accessible money wise and fun as heck. Specially once you build some skill being able to skate anywhere is the best feeling. I've been keeping my skates in the trunk of my car this past spring and the have come in handy. However, don't keep your skates in the trunk of your car for long periods plastic gets too soft or hard in winter summer and end up brittle ultimately breaking.
Excellent video! I would needed such a video 3 years ago. Here my skating Story: I started skating 3 years ago with some really cheap skates (30$). They were awful, had no ankle support. So after 10min of skating my feets start hurting a lot. In addition, they were slow as hell. But i got hooked into blading. Then i bought some rollerblades and i didnt like them too. They felt a bit loose, not comfy and quite slow. But i skated them till the wheels were complete done. Then i bought powerslide Zoom with a 4x80mm set up and the crwon liner. This was just perfect for me. I upgraded the skate with undercover wheels, wicked abec 9 bearings and waxed laces. I love the set up for city skating and slalom. After that i bought the usd sway XXI skates because i d like to test aggressive skakting. Nowdays I m the proud owner of another pair of zoom with a 3x100/3x110mm setup and 2 more aggressive skates, the usd sway IV as antirocker setup and 1 usd aeon with 4x 80mm undercover wheels. For chrismas i like to buy the aqumarine roces and maybe another pair for city skating, i have an eye on the Apadt GTOs. Anyone who has experience with these skates? Greetings from Cologne, Germany.
Nothing but TRUTH in this video I upgraded from the rollerblade zetras to the Adapt GTOs and my life was changed after a month in the broken in GTO, they are so much freaking faster and honestly 4x79mm or 4x80mm wheels feel so much better and smoother than the 3x110s
I alternate my FR1s between 4x90 and 3x110, but truthfully since I do most of my skating on a 12 mile bike loop I tend to use the 110s more often. But the 90s are more versatile, so when I travel that's the frame I use.
Great video, good information. One thing I’ll add for anyone that might see this, if you find a boot you like, you can often find other frames to swap out if you want to try other configurations. I had quite a journey finding the boot for me, as I wanted something UFS I could put aggressive frames on, but the stability to have a bigger wheel frame without the soul plate. Landed on some Seba CJ2 prime and it’s been a blast
I'm a triskate addict! I ware Next Powerslide on. Depending on the distance, I used to put 80 mm wheels for slalom in a public park. As I want to roll for long distance, I just replace these 3 wheels by 100 or 110 mm ones. I train myself several Times on it before a long trip! Maybe you should try again!
I’m getting into skating and I feel like it’s hard to know where to buy skates with changeable frames, most places sell recreational skates with monocoque frames and those skates can be up to $300. I now have k2s and story inline skates because the only non-monocoque skates I was finding were aggressive skates with too small of wheels than I want or hockey skates. Can anyone make any suggestions on where to start for changeable frame skates? What websites? What brands? Preferably under $500. I want to get endless frames at some point but I don’t have skates with the right frame. (As I’ve mentioned a million times 🙄 sorry)
Endless sells FR1 with Intuition and their frames complete on their website... It's not under 500 but if you buy the endless frame later you won't be much under anyway and what they offer is top of top 😉 Else, in the US you have proskatersplace, inline warehouse or shop task... In Europe I would recommend Bladeville or ThisIsSoul 😘
Ah yes, some more... If you plan on using any Endless frame later, don't go for Rollerblade, their mounting holes are placed different and the frame won't be centered 😅 FR make good skates for normal to a little wider feet and are good for high instep with open shell (and Endless is designed for that boot, so just looks awesome)... Powerslide Next is my fave boot (love the Trinity, but of course wider frame selection with standard 165 mounting...) Next has good room in toe box but is fairly narrow in middle and heel area, which is perfect for me but for others might feel too narrow (the charcoal combat 90 version comes with rockerable frame, love it, 0.5mm rocker is best for urban speed, Endless is better for swively stuff though).... The Powerslide Zoom has pretty wide and forgiving shell but the stock liners suck 😢 The Seba Trix2 you see (banged up) in the video is really great too, maybe not as durable as hard shell but most comfortable skate I ever had on my feet 🥰 if you like the feel of softboots but with better support, response and power transfer it's perfect. The frame it comes with is not so nice though but it's not only for slalom, you can turn axles to make it a flat 80(and has 7 mounting holes like FR 1/2/3, so you can put on any frame but as it's a little less supportive than hardshells I would not go bigger as 90's)... I hear good things about Flying Eagle but don't own one, so can't say how they fit... If you wanna try, I would wait for the new X7D, has a 90mm rockered frame and looks soo good, maybe you would not even need to buy another frame... If you don't want a 100's or 5 wheel of course 😅
Glad this video came out, we talked a little on instagram about skates and this video is a great follow up! I currently have my hockey skates but plan to switch out the indoor wheels with some Asphalts for outdoor skating, mainly smooth concrete walk/running trails, new england streets aren't friendly to wheels lmao
Awe yeah I remember you and the roads up there are not very good. I will say that the big 3 wheel set up might be really useful in your situation because it handles rough roads a lot better! I'm sure you'll be fine in whatever you go with. Good to hear from you again!
Excellent video! I got back into skating recently after about a 25 year break, and picked up the FR1s, and very happy with them. I was really big into city skating in the 90s, but what's interesting coming back to skating years later is how popular having a "rockered" skate is. I remember back in the 90s, we dreaded the moment our wheels developed a natural "rocker", and we would immediately rotate them to wear the inner wheels down to get back to a flat setup again... now people are paying hundreds of dollar to start out with wheels being at different levels. I guess as different types of skating become more developed over time, more specialized equipment is developed to cater to those differences, but I'm still not at that point where I'd pay for a set up that's not flat... maybe one day, who knows. It would be interesting if you could comment on, or make a video about, essentials for city/urban skating, like different backpacks, fanny packs, lights for night skating etc... What you think you need for different situations, or what you think you don't need, pros and cons of carrying different stuff etc. I see some people city skating, and they have nothing but their skates, and then I think, what if they get dehydrated, or need to put on shoes etc. Then I see people with backpacks, and think how does that affect your balance with the extra weight on your back... There seem to be pros and cons of each, but it seems like a worthy discussion to have.
I've been looking at this comment for a few days trying to come up with a good response haha but yes I don't think people should be riding rockered unless they are doing slalom skating but to each their own I guess lol I've only tried doing it a hand full of times and it does not work well with my style of skating at all haha. Flat For Life. I really actually like the second part of your comment and I think its a great video idea! If you dont mind waiting I will try and get some thoughts together and make a whole video about all your questions
@@Skating_Squid Thanks for your considered response! I hope I didn't come off as criticizing people who like rockers skates, cause I didn't mean to, just that I was quite surprised to see it when I came back to it. Like you said, to each their own. Awesome, I'm happy you like the video idea. I'll happily wait for whenever you get around to making it. Thanks!
@@mountainpeakcloud8442Natural rocker is awesome... But it only makes sense with a frame that is at least as long as your feet... To me a short 80 flat makes no sense unless your feet are very small, why do you want to balance on something like stilts? 😅 When I got the back wheel just behind the heel and the front wheel at the tips of my toes it feels like an extension of my body and skating is most natural. The "expensive" rockered frames are not necessary but are high quality and help with equal wheel wear... And now finally the major brands also found out that not everybody with normal or big feet enjoys skating with what is actually a slalom frame...
Before recently I could probably count on one hand the number of times of skated in my life. I went to a little get together at the skating rink a couple months back probably and that was like the first time I'd ever gone rollerblading and not just fallen on my butt. I still fell a lot, but I learned how to go forward, and learn how to steer over the course of that night. I went skating again maybe a month ago, and decided I was going to buy myself some skates because I wear an 11.5 US and the skating rinks don't do half size rentals I have to choose between excruciating pain or weird pressure points and a lot of flex in the oversized skate. I went with a three-wheel. I bought a story space three-wheel skate, I took it to the skating rink the other night and this is the first time in my life I've gone skating without foot pain. I absolutely love my three-wheel skates and I feel very stable on them, I feel like I have control and I was able to do the crossover steering thing where you step foot over foot. Still learning, I maybe did a couple dozen laps around the skating rink. maybe they are a gimmick but you know what they look cool and I'm convinced the bigger wheels are going to roll over pebbles and things easier once I get to the point of skating outside of the rink
That’s awesome, glad you got your own pair that suits you well !! I might have been a little harsh on 3 wheel setups in this video haha but I’m really happy you found what works for you and I’m sure you’ll love them for years to come!
@@Skating_SquidSquid turned from a hater to a believer after doing marathon with the Endless 😂 You should ask Endless if they send you a cool trinity frame for your SUV Next, then you could actually use it, it's a shame if you don't, that boot and the trinity is really good...
😎🤙 So I went with the Flying Eagle S5+ (2024 Eclipse), and it's been great! It's a Hard-boot, metal 165 mm frame, 4x80 wheels with rocker axles. I got back into skates due to my daughter getting to skating age. We go to the rink and do a little around the neighborhood skating. That said, back in the late 90s, I was in my teens and was big into skating. My early days were skating the local business and, funny enough, skating through the mall daily. The security was cool enough. They knew I was only going to go through once, and I didn't try to mess stuff up. Later, my friends and I built skate park stuff in our friend with cool parents' driveway. We had a 5' 1/4 pipe, an 8' box, and a couple of round rails. I had lots of good times skating there. From there, we started going to what were at that time, all indoor paid skate parks. Taking the driveway experience to the skate parks was so much fun right off the rip. My first time to a skate park, I hit the 12' 1/2 pipe, no problem. Alas, the skate park trips took their toll on my skates, and they finally broke beyond repair. I was at a point where getting a new pair of skates wasn't in the cards. That was the end of my early skating days. I really enjoy the way that you skate 'flow style'. I have been focusing now on that style, and it's been a blast. With an 8yo, has been a great way to practice since the pace is kept slow.
@Skating_Squid same, it's been a blast! Watching the little one learn is incredible. Last weekend we went down a sidewalk that had the driveway slopes in the walking path. She had fun learning to transverse the elevation changes since all her skating had been on flat till then. Your kiddo is going to have all the skate skills!
I got a pair of Rollerblade Zetrablades like six years ago (when I was 40) to get back into skating from my youth. Spent years at the rink with my kids, last year started hitting the trails outdoors. The Zetras have served me quite well in this time, with a few wheel and bearing replacements as I learned about skates themselves. Felt I needed an upgrade, so I just ordered the new Rollerblade Lightnings as I have wide feet and these reportedly have a good sized boot (based on the RB line). These look to be a good, inexpensive, versatile skate for general purposes, and I hope to start hitting the streets in them. Since I'm also doing a lot of distance trail skating, I plan on getting some 3x frames with 100mm wheels to swap out as needed.
So did you use the Zetras exclusively inside or did you do fitness outside as well? I’m thinking about getting some to start but I hear people saying stay away from soft boot….
@@t.terrell7037I started skating the trails last summer, and this winter was rather mild so I'd had a few months outdoors. They worked just fine for that. Soft boots are supposed to be more comfortable, but not as supportive or responsive, so it depends on your comfort and skill level I guess.
I got used skates about a year ago then bought into some Seba Trix 2, the adjustable rocker on it is great, I mainly street or path skate and rock them flat but I will try and rocker whenever I go to a rink or something. I have wide feet so they are the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. I also love the 3 strap, it means I can tie some elastic laces on them and just boot up in less than a minute. Love the channel btw.
Heck yeah that’s awesome, glad yours have held up longer than my friend Ricardo’s has. Definitely a good perspective buying used is a great way to go if you can find them. Thank you so much!
Why I don't like tri-skates: bigger wheels means higher strain on the joints and less agile ride; less points of contact with the ground means bumpy ride.
Haven't skated aggressive inline in 17 years. Started when I was about 10. Couldn't remember if they were supposed to fit this tight. I miss my old TRS ACCESS skates. Had worn them in so well.
I bought tri-skates because the roads where I live are absolute trash. I don't regret my decision at all- they go over rocks and cracks like they aren't even there. I'd like to try a 4x80 set up eventually, though!
I have three pairs of skates. I have two pairs of Flying Eagles. One with 125mm wheels. And the other with 80 mm wheels. And I have quad skates as well. I like the 125 mm wheels for cycle paths, especially if it is a new location. The bigger wheels feel safer, mainly when the path changes to the road unexpectedly. But I go with my 80 mm wheel set up for general day-to-day skating. I love my quad skates, but they are for the state ring only. Flying Eagles are good skates overall.
Tri Skates.... my favorite setup. Try the Kizer trimax frame. All 3 wheels r rockerable and it has a nice short frame which I prefer. I rocker the first wheel up and use 100mm to stay agile but get over cracks and twigs. This also allows me to use the middle wheel as a pivot point. Try it out! I think u would have fun.
4:17 when I was starting out, I had a very cheap pair of skates like £30 and it had that break. Anyway one day I was at the rink building my skill and I wanted to do a crossover, but the brake caught onto the front wheel of my other skate and caused me to flip over and get a concussion. I ended up getting Bauer rs for Christmas and they are in really bad condition now but they are still 1000x better than the beginner ones.
hmmm... when first starting out, you're on flat level ground period! Thats means mainly the rink, unless you've got a concrete drive. From there it takes time, and i never ever thought that i would love the aggressive skate park scenario, but i sure do now.
Hey squid, recently found this channel love the work your producing. I started playing hockey again and have been watching a lot of your videos. Jut wanted to tell you the HI-LO setup on a inline hockey skate are for more maneuverability. Hockey is a game where you are constantly changing directions and the HI-LO setup is for sharper turns!
Why not call these inline skates in the title? I know these are technically skates that roll, but "roller skate" typed into Google does not show this type of skate, and everybody I know refers to these as inline skates.
I liked your personal opinion regarding each one and your advice. They really helped me. I have always used 80mm flat but I have recently bought the 3 wheel 🤣 ones, let's see how they feel. 🤔 👍😃
I recently got my old K2 inline skates out of the cellar and started skating again after years. The first few times were a bit painful because I had put on a lot of weight and hadn't skated for 7 years. Now it's going quite well and I'm getting a better body feeling. The only thing that is still there is a lot of pressure on the lower part of my calf, at the level of the snap. But I don't want to loosen it, otherwise the skate won't sit firmly. I have thicker than average calves, so it rubs on the fabric :( I think I'll have to buy new skates anyway and wanted to ask if I should pay attention to anything in particular because of the calf problem? I know hardshell is the better option, but maybe I need something flexible so that it doesn't pinch so much? I've also tried ankle wraps, but they're all too small or put too much pressure on me. I would like to go in the direction of freeskating/wizard skating, but my skills are still in their infancy.
hmm Im not too sure honestly. maybe a skate with a lower cuff. I havent ever had any problems like what you described. Sorry I can't be more helpful :(
Where did you get your personal skates?the orange ones..i bought some roller blades and like you said the shoe part is like shirt materail need some better ones!
Thanks a lot for this great review. do you have any experience / opinions about the Rollerblade Twister XT or the Rollerblade crossfire? how do they compare to the FR1? thanks!
Twister is narrow at toes and the cuff has lots of flex to side and front, liner is comfy but thin and soft (I got pressure point on inside ankle bones)... Power transfer is a little better as the bottom of the boot is stiffer than FR... And most 3rd party frames won't be centered, Rollerblade seems to position their holes a bit different 😅 Crossfire is a carbon boot with integrated liner, maybe it's awesome but my heels kept moving up and down no matter how hard I laced and ratcheted in a perfect sized boot... If you want it, I strongly recommend trying it on in a shop, 'cause you can't swap the liner if it doesn't fit... FR are just the standard in freeskates, they fit most feet without pressure points, with the thick and comfy liner, decent heel lock, good support and a full 7 hole mounting plate to fit about every frame available... Only advice; if you want to go with a thinner liner than the FR stock, you most likely would have to buy a smaller size (FR Intuition size chart)...
Thank you for covering hockey skates! I’m looking into them for hockey and urban use. Very few people have covered them. I didn’t want to have to buy two
I can recommend the Rollerblade RB Cruiser for both beginners and advanced riders. Skates have almost all the benefits of expensive models for a low price 😊
@@Skating_Squid I still plan on getting me a pair of FR though lol I also have the USD basic 60 and I’m learning how to frontside right now. Do you have a video for aggressive tips/tricks.?
I skated agressive a lot between 96 and 2005. A real lot. I can tell you we skated city streets no problems, we didn’t have skateparks and there wasn’t 80mm freeride skates and we were fine grinding, gapping whatever was there. Regarding the hate on three wheels skates, please provide arguments because I got back into skating in 2021 and I’ve got to say triskates are amazing and very reactive and fast compared to the 80mm setup I had on my k2 uptown’s which where good too though.
okay so i really wanna ask you about something so i have been skating for 3 months and i have f6 falcon boot f4 raven liner fr 2 310 frame and wheels mw7 bearing so what i am asking is should i upgrade anytime soon or stay with my setup ?
I think you should be perfectly fine for awhile! No need to upgrade anything until it breaks, that’s my philosophy. Unless you are having pain or something is uncomfortable
I found frx and rb cruiser on amazon saudi arabia you think they're original? Been planning to get a decent one after oxelo 100 that's too big on my feet.. Any thoughts? Thank you so much ❤️
I used to skate 20-60 miles a day, several times a week. It's been so long ago, I can't remember what wheel size or bearings. Seems like they were abec 9, and wheels were 80-85? What would you recommend for an advanced skater that doesn't want their skates too fast anymore. I'd like to get a little butt if a workout, and still be able to stop quickly for idiot drivers. I used to have K2's, heard boots and loved them, but with age the boots just cracked to pieces when I took them out of the closet. They were from the late 1980's. I wanted something similar, and be able to raise the front wheel. Any advice appreciated. I'm not looking the K2 changes with the soft boots. TY!
Getting back into skating I wanted to go to skate park but also zoom outside, so I just ended up getting some kizer trimax frames that will let me run a 110mm setup
I think your 3 wheel skate opinion is right but I love them already. It’s to late for me now as I have relearned everything from my prior skating experience on my new skates, I feel like maybe I should purchase an endless frame so I can switch between 4 and 3 wheels but I have already spent a lot on this hobby.
I just started skating again and I got the FR UFR Intuiton. Pretty much the same as yours but a grind space between 2 and 3 wheel but full sized wheels. Well 80's anyway so its way better than the old school anti-rocker setup. I LOVE the abiltity to replace parts. Now you dont have to buy new skates if you bust a buckle. Just replace the buckle. ANd being able to try new frames and crap is cool. I just wish wizard frames were cheaper.
Seems like the hard shells would be more responsive but heavier and not as comfortable or breathable as the soft shells. What do you think of the Macroblades? I'm just looking to go fast and flow, not necessarily do tricks or jump stairs or anything like that.
I have the 110mm hard shell TriSkates. I haven't used my 80mm flat 4 wheel skates in over a year now. I'm wondering if my balance on 80mm flat 4 will be even better now I've used 110mm TriSkates for over a year.
I am begineer to skate what type of skate should I buy depending on parameter like skate weight, what type of wheel, it not must be damaged while running on rough surface
Yeah I think you will be fine going that route and it would give you the chance to see if it’s something you are really interested in and want to continue taking more seriously!
Depending on your personality, of you don't like sluggish, slow, equipment, make sure the bearings are at least rated abec 7. Bend your knees and lean forward, you'll be fine!
I learned using inline skates with 4 wheels. If I switch to 5 wheels what are the pitfalls or what do I have to worry about ? I am strictly a park skater . Never in urban/city traffic ever
I would say just getting used to it will be a learning curve but after sometime you’ll be fine. I don’t think there are too many drawbacks unless the wheels wheels are 5x over 90mm
Maybe New York 👀?? Also do you have any suggestions for skating on the ocean? I was about to buy a pair of JetSkiSkates but I wasn't too sure if they were any good.
Hey I have a question I bought some regular street skates but but I noticed the wheels are like slalom skates. Do I just change the wheels or is it a frame issue?
@@Skating_Squid jeuwith inline skates from Amazon. I double checked and the description said the middle wheels are 80mm / the front and back are 76mm. Lol😭 i know they’re not the best but decent for a beginner
Any recommendations where to buy skates online? looks like there arent really any places around me besides dicks sporting goods but their selection is kind of limited.
thank you so much for this video, i really needed it! btw, in another video you said you replaced some parts of you fr1 skates to orange parts, may i ask where did you get them?
No problem! and I got them on a website called "thuro shop" but the orange ones are really hard to find so you might only be able to get other colors now
I have been looking for a Video like this I search your playlist and I did not see this. I have been on quads for 10+ years and I knew nothing about inline skates
Its so funny you hate 110 wheels. I pretty much skate 100 to 110 exclusively on a size 44 boot. I also swap boots all the time. Seba CJ, FR1, and Trix2 are my trades. Takes me longer to find a boot that I like than a frame. I would also recommend to not hesitate to heat up and punch out the shell of any hard boot for comfort.
Thats a good idea and yeah it really all does just come down to preference! I just like having 4 wheels because I can skate more fluid but I'm sure if I gave the 3 wheels some more time then I could probably do most things
@@Skating_Squid Like with all things, practice breeds familiarity with it. Granted if its all number of wheels, there are tons of good frames out there these days for bigger 4 wheel setups. Rode 4x110 NN frame this weekend. Was beautiful.
Just subbed and gotta say you’re one of my biggest inspirations to start skating again. I roller bladed a lot when I was younger and I’m a decent ice skater but I’m gonna be hitting the Houston streets real soon
Hi Thanks for the helpfull video! > I'm looking at getting the F1's as my Powerslide Next 80's are really uncomfortable & hard to get on etc... >> Are your F1's Custom or did you buy them like that? I love the white/Orange combo! 😎👍
@@Skating_Squid Thanks for the reply! Now I've just got to decide between FR2's + 'upgrade' Kit vs FR1's? Also Black or White? Hmmm 🧐 Decitions decitions 🤕😅 I love the White/Orange as I always wear orange also but I dont want to steal your style! Haha 😅 (Green Kit could be cool but I havent found one...) 🤔 Thanks again!!
@@danbeare5263I would clearly go for 90's at that foot size... EU 45-47 uses the same shell only different liner size... So UK 12 is best, 11 would work with a little longer break in time I asume but liner has no stretchable toe box...
Thanks so much very informative, know what ill upgrade to next, I have a pair of Bauer Fx1s good condition and my size now, had them as a child too, don't want to buy a new pair yet I now know what to get next but until then, anh advice on wheels? I don't know what brand, same with bearings what ones are good? I need 72mm, outdoor for concete and asphalt, I weight 160 lbs so not sure what A to get 85? Any advice would be much appreciated 🇮🇪
72mm is not so common anymore... Undercover team white 86a are the best you can get. Undercover Raw are cheaper, fast and grippy but once you loose grip they slide a bit unpredictable 85a or 88a, the latter has less grip but a little more predictable (these wear down faster even though harder than the expensive team wheels 😅)... Powerslide Spinner are also available in 72 (I think 88a) more of a mid range wheel and too slidey for hockey I think... Hyper makes some good outdoor hockey 72mm wheels at 84a but might be hard to find 🤔
Been trying to get into skating. Been skating trails everyother day but need new ones and theres absolutely nowhere to buy skates around here. Id really like to try the skates on first for proper fitting. Im thinking of just buying hockey skates cuase theyre easy to find. Feel i might regret that. Its frustrating
@Skating_Squid Ended up just folding and buying the FR 1 80s White. I'm trusting you lol😅 but definitely rather spend a little more and get something better quality and that has replaceable parts👍 just praying they fit good
I think for the price of impalas you could save up a bit more money for something that is much better quality. I’ve personally never have tried impalas so I can’t say for sure. Only word of mouth from other skaters
It’s possible but in that configuration you would have a lot less control because the middle two wheels wouldn’t touch the ground until the other two end wheels wear down. I would not recommend that setup
Hi I’m in middle school just started 6th grade I got the Amazon skates I have one pair for outside there a lil worn out already and I bought new ones recently and they are ok I want the eagles 😢
You could clearly make super small circles with a banana rocker... But for normal skating it's pretty unstable and you will only have the grip of 2 wheels... If you don't switch wheel positions, you get a natural rocker, that feels like it says, natural to you and your style 🤓
Wild question! Dog mushing! I'm wanting Rollerblades! The dogs run miles and the roads can be rough! I've already torn through a set of wheels and wanting to upgrade everything! What would yall recommend? 😁 Love the video!
Hey so you said you couldn’t reply to everyone to figure out what is the best skate for them so instead im asking if the frx is good for indoor and outdoor i also wanna get into a bit of wizard skating tho i may buy the nn dragon/dragon+, Honestly would like a OG’s opinion.
The FRX is the cheaper brother of the FR 1/2/3... Same boot, same liner, only velcro strap instead of ratchet buckle and the frame is mounted on plastic instead of metal plates, so a little worse in power transfer and frame connection... All parts are replaceable... So one of the best entry level skates on the market... You can use it for city, rink, slalom or marathon (with some bigger wheels I suggest) no problem... If you have a little extra money to spare you could upgrade to FR3 with the better mounting which is a little better for heavier big wheel frames like the NN... If not, don't worry I skated the FRX with 125's and it's fine 😊
I bought the Rollerblade skates you did not recommend. I bought them used for 30 dollars. It looked like they were used 5 times as they looked new. I am now learning how to skate and the skates seem to be working fine. If I feel like I need better skates I will do that, but they seem to be working fine for me now. Only 30 dollars. I pay much more for that when I buy shoes.
@@Skating_Squid Yeah that is what I was thinking. I will pay the 250 dollars or so and get better skates. Right now, I am working on stopping as I seem to skate going forward with no problems. I did not mention that I am 71 years old. I am going to the park right now before it gets hot here in Prescott Arizona. Beautiful out now and 72 degrees.
But if they don’t end up sticking with skating then they don’t have a $800 pair of skates collecting dust
Your setup sounds awesome though thank you for the input
@@Skating_Squid yeah it was like 2 years of lockdown so i barely spend any money on normal fun things i used to do so might aswell go all in haha.
Yeah there are plenty of great entry level skates that you can have fun on for years i bet.
One day i will be able to skate as smoothly as you do you great style.
I know this is an old post but I was looking at videos because I just made a crazy purchase and went all in lol…got the FR1 80 Deluxe in white lmfao no skills but here we are I haven’t skated in years…got some pads and a helmet and was like here we go
Thats a wonderull setup! Im still highly invested into rollerblading. Most fun thing ive done in a long time@@DarthLoganXV
@@DarthLoganXVhave fun 😁
For people coming back into skating definitely ride flat imo, like recreational to build that muscle back but depending on style of skating if you want in between aggresive and recreational i use FR ufr with oysi frames on undercover wheels but to each their own, i have many set ups for different purposes.....but i recommend new comers to buy quality because first impressions can determine someone's experience, join a rollerblade group and ask mad questions, dont be discouraged.....great video btw 🤘😎🤜💢🤛
Couldn’t agree more, and thank you so much!
as a 27 year old man with size 15 shoes.
Here my skating Story:
I started skating 3 years ago with some really cheap skates (30$).
Yeah endless is one of the best brands for frames imo. I think proskatersplace sells frames on their website as well.
Endless sells FR1 with Intuition and their frames complete on their website... It's not under 500 but if you buy the endless frame later you won't be much under anyway and what they offer is top of top 😉
Else, in the US you have proskatersplace, inline warehouse or shop task... In Europe I would recommend Bladeville or ThisIsSoul 😘
Ah yes, some more... If you plan on using any Endless frame later, don't go for Rollerblade, their mounting holes are placed different and the frame won't be centered 😅
FR make good skates for normal to a little wider feet and are good for high instep with open shell (and Endless is designed for that boot, so just looks awesome)... The Powerslide Zoom has pretty wide and forgiving shell but the stock liners suck 😢
The Seba Trix2 you see (banged up) in the video is really great too, maybe not as durable as hard shell but most comfortable skate I ever had on my feet 🥰 if you like the feel of softboots but with better support, response and power transfer it's perfect.
@@Skating_SquidSquid turned from a hater to a believer after doing marathon with the Endless 😂
You should ask Endless if they send you a cool trinity frame for your SUV Next, then you could actually use it, it's a shame if you don't, that boot and the trinity is really good...
😎🤙
So I went with the Flying Eagle S5+ (2024 Eclipse), and it's been great!
That’s amazing! Glad you picked it back up and getting your daughter to skate with you is awesome bonding experiences I hope to have one day!
Yeah tri skates are definitely good in your case, that was a great choice! I'm curious how you'll like the 4x80 when you finally get them
I have three pairs of skates.
Definitely want to try that out, thank you! 🦑
I know these are technically skates that roll, but "roller skate" typed into Google does not show this type of skate, and everybody I know refers to these as inline skates.
hmm the seba have a flat frame... You can rotate the first and fourth axis to get the frame for slalom...
I’m getting FR1 upgrading from the Micro Skate. Great skate for beginners I think. Would love to learn how to flow like you do
I liked your personal opinion regarding each one and your advice. They really helped me. I have always used 80mm flat but I have recently bought the 3 wheel 🤣 ones, let's see how they feel. 🤔 👍😃
I hope you like them!!
@@Skating_Squid But even so, I'm still looking for some 80mm or some hybrids that can change the wheels. I saw some like this and I want them
I recently got my old K2 inline skates out of the cellar and started skating again after years.
Sorry I can't be more helpful :(
@@Skating_Squid is okay . Now I have bought the PS Zoom Nova and they don't make problems on the lower legs. 🙃
Where did you get your personal skates?the orange ones..i bought some roller blades and like you said the shoe part is like shirt materail need some better ones!
I got them online but they started out as all white and then I customized them with orange parts.
Thanks a lot for this great review. do you have any experience / opinions about the Rollerblade Twister XT or the Rollerblade crossfire? how do they compare to the FR1? thanks!
Unfortunately I haven’t got to try many rollerblade brand skates so I don’t know :/
Twister is narrow at toes and the cuff has lots of flex to side and front, liner is comfy but thin and soft (I got pressure point on inside ankle bones)... Power transfer is a little better as the bottom of the boot is stiffer than FR... And most 3rd party frames won't be centered, Rollerblade seems to position their holes a bit different 😅
Crossfire is a carbon boot with integrated liner, maybe it's awesome but my heels kept moving up and down no matter how hard I laced and ratcheted in a perfect sized boot...
I didn’t want to have to buy two
13:20 The only thing I could see these being used for is mountain bike trails maybe, or dirt BMX like ramps. Which would be insane but cool to see
I can recommend the Rollerblade RB Cruiser for both beginners and advanced riders. Skates have almost all the benefits of expensive models for a low price 😊
What are your opinions on Flying Eagle brand.? I’ve been rocking the F3S “Origami” skates for about 2 months now and I absolutely love them so far.!
I actually like flying eagle a lot! One of the brands I usually recommend because they have good quality skates and aren’t as expensive as FR
Regarding the hate on three wheels skates, please provide arguments because I got back into skating in 2021 and I’ve got to say triskates are amazing and very reactive and fast compared to the 80mm setup I had on my k2 uptown’s which where good too though.

fr 2 310 frame and wheels
mw7 bearing so what i am asking is should i upgrade anytime soon or stay with my setup ?
I think you should be perfectly fine for awhile! No need to upgrade anything until it breaks, that’s my philosophy. Unless you are having pain or something is uncomfortable
I street skate in True hockey in-line skates I also use them at the skate park they work good for me
I found frx and rb cruiser on amazon saudi arabia you think they're original? Been planning to get a decent one after oxelo 100 that's too big on my feet.. Any thoughts? Thank you so much ❤️
I would say they probably should be originals I’m not 100% sure but I would assume they are!

TY!
I would just find a boot with a hard shell and 80mm size wheels. Bearings make such a small difference and anything abec 7 or more is good
Getting back into skating I wanted to go to skate park but also zoom outside, so I just ended up getting some kizer trimax frames that will let me run a 110mm setup
that sounds like a pretty awesome set up!
I think a hard shell would be best in the long run. The macro blades will not last as long
I have the 110mm hard shell TriSkates. I haven't used my 80mm flat 4 wheel skates in over a year now. I'm wondering if my balance on 80mm flat 4 will be even better now I've used 110mm TriSkates for over a year.
Yes I think your balance would be wayyyyy better now!
extremely youll be shocked how good your slides and confidence is once you are back in 4x setup
I am begineer to skate what type of skate should I buy depending on parameter like skate weight, what type of wheel, it not must be damaged while running on rough surface
I like the flying eagle they are great!
I'm planning on learning rollerblades, wanted to try a different hobby. is it good to buy a cheap rollerblades for chill strolls?
Yeah I think you will be fine going that route and it would give you the chance to see if it’s something you are really interested in and want to continue taking more seriously!
Depending on your personality, of you don't like sluggish, slow, equipment, make sure the bearings are at least rated abec 7. Bend your knees and lean forward, you'll be fine!
@@Skating_Squidany recommendations for a cheap or budget starter that can work in and outside? Thanks
@@Skating_Squid Alright thank you for your thoughtful reply and advice.
Maybe New York 👀?? Also do you have any suggestions for skating on the ocean? I was about to buy a pair of JetSkiSkates but I wasn't too sure if they were any good.
The problem with the ski skates is that you also need a boat unfortunately
Hey I have a question I bought some regular street skates but but I noticed the wheels are like slalom skates. Do I just change the wheels or is it a frame issue?
It would be the frame and not the wheels unfortunately. What skates did you get?
@@Skating_Squid jeuwith inline skates from Amazon. I double checked and the description said the middle wheels are 80mm / the front and back are 76mm. Lol😭 i know they’re not the best but decent for a beginner
@@DoodleBob102🤗 don't cry, you can always put 4 80mm wheels on, then you have a normal flat setup 😊
@@ericbernardi8116 😂lol I bought the flying eagle eclipse the rocker adjustable frame is 🔥🔥. The skate you choose definitely matters
Serious questions, do you think if you use a zip lock for the Papaison skate it would hold it together and be a better skate?
that def could help haha
Any recommendations where to buy skates online? looks like there arent really any places around me besides dicks sporting goods but their selection is kind of limited.
Depending where you live it can be different but I like pro skaters place, thuro shop, places like that
Inline warehouse is good
thank you so much for this video, i really needed it!
btw, in another video you said you replaced some parts of you fr1 skates to orange parts, may i ask where did you get them?
No problem! and I got them on a website called "thuro shop" but the orange ones are really hard to find so you might only be able to get other colors now
I have been looking for a Video like this I search your playlist and I did not see this.
I might be getting into skating and this video helped a lot. I think I know what I must do
Glad I could help !!
Aren't the skates with the tires for off-roading? Is that how they were advertised? How did you come across them?
Yes they are for off roading. Not sure where I saw them first but I ordered them online because I thought it might be fun haha
@@Skating_Squid Might be good for extreme off-road downhill skating.😆
Which red/orange wheels are those? How you rotate them? Thank you
they are the labeda asphalt wheels. I just rotate them by eye I dont have a patteren or format. place smaller ones near the front
Can you get hockey skates please please please I want to see if they’re good
I bought rollerblade zetrablades for 139.00 they are nice, what do you think of the zetrablades?
I think they are similar to the rollerblade skates I featured in this video. Not the best long term but they are great to start in and learn
Hi , Is seba fr1 heavy or light?
I would say it’s on the heavy side
The problem I have using 80mm wheels is the park I skate at there are a lot of rocks and pebbles on the road. Do you have that issue where you skate?
Sometimes but there has to be a ton of rocks haha I usually just try to stay away from areas like that
I have a question, you said your skates are fr1, is ir 80 or ufr 90?
Fr1 80!
@@Skating_Squid thank you , I've been looking for a good pare of skates and I've been looking at wheels, it's confusing. Thank you again
Just subbed and gotta say you’re one of my biggest inspirations to start skating again. I roller bladed a lot when I was younger and I’m a decent ice skater but I’m gonna be hitting the Houston streets real soon
Awe that’s awesome!!! Hope you have fun out in Huston I always wanted to skate there
It hi-lo skates small at the front big at the back but if u have CCM or alkali there just one set
Hi Thanks for the helpfull video!
> I'm looking at getting the F1's as my Powerslide Next 80's are really uncomfortable & hard to get on etc...
>> Are your F1's Custom or did you buy them like that? I love the white/Orange combo! 😎👍
Mine are custom I bought the white skates and added the orange color kit 😁🦑
@@Skating_Squid Thanks for the reply!
Now I've just got to decide between FR2's + 'upgrade' Kit vs FR1's? Also Black or White? Hmmm 🧐 Decitions decitions 🤕😅
I love the White/Orange as I always wear orange also but I dont want to steal your style! Haha 😅 (Green Kit could be cool but I havent found one...) 🤔
Thanks again!!
... Also I am considering the FR1 90 option as I have big feet. (Size: UK 11.5 to 12) 🤔
How do yours fit compared to your shoe size?
Cheers!! 😎👍
@@danbeare5263I would clearly go for 90's at that foot size... EU 45-47 uses the same shell only different liner size... So UK 12 is best, 11 would work with a little longer break in time I asume but liner has no stretchable toe box...
Thanks so much very informative, know what ill upgrade to next, I have a pair of Bauer Fx1s good condition and my size now, had them as a child too, don't want to buy a new pair yet
I now know what to get next but until then, anh advice on wheels?
What do you recommend for skates that the wheels won't break due to harden roads and wheels that can hold over 98 kg
Yeah that’s the tough part about trying to get new skates 🥲
@Skating_Squid Ended up just folding and buying the FR 1 80s White. I'm trusting you lol😅 but definitely rather spend a little more and get something better quality and that has replaceable parts👍 just praying they fit good
What do you think about Tour hockey skates?
I haven’t got to try those yet!
Great and useful information! Thank you for sharing!
what's your opinion on impala inline skates for beginners?
I think for the price of impalas you could save up a bit more money for something that is much better quality. I’ve personally never have tried impalas so I can’t say for sure. Only word of mouth from other skaters
Thank you for the tips!! Can you make a video on how you do maintenance on your skates wheels and how often you rotate them.
yes! might be a while before It gets uploaded but I think thats a great idea!
Can you do an 80 76 76 80 setup on an urban setup a what effect would that have stability, speed and maneuvering?
It’s possible but in that configuration you would have a lot less control because the middle two wheels wouldn’t touch the ground until the other two end wheels wear down. I would not recommend that setup
Hi I’m in middle school just started 6th grade I got the Amazon skates I have one pair for outside there a lil worn out already and I bought new ones recently and they are ok I want the eagles 😢
Great review!
I have some K2 Sodo’s 100mm wheels and a pair of FR3’s.
I like to do backward crossovers and circles backwards. I am using flat inlines 80mm. Would slalom skates be more useful?
I don’t think it would make the much of a difference honestly
You could clearly make super small circles with a banana rocker... But for normal skating it's pretty unstable and you will only have the grip of 2 wheels... If you don't switch wheel positions, you get a natural rocker, that feels like it says, natural to you and your style 🤓
What skates brand would you recommend for beginners?
No wizard skates?
I’ve never tried wizard skates before so I can’t really give a good opinion on them :(
Wild question!
Dog mushing!
I'm wanting Rollerblades! The dogs run miles and the roads can be rough! I've already torn through a set of wheels and wanting to upgrade everything! What would yall recommend? 😁
Love the video!
I would just try to get some wheels that are on the harder side and ones that are good quality.
Adapt GTO Hyperskate?
Whick skates recommend for asphalt?
Ive got a slalom skate and I dont know how to do those crazy tricks in cones 😂😂😂
What do you think about 4x100?
Too big for my style I think haha
I bought the amazon ones for my first skates.😂 Thinking of upgrading to the FR 2 skates.
Great info on styles of skates! Will post on Twitter!
Thank you much for this video , I bought my first
Nice I hope you love them!!! 🦑🦑
@@Skating_Squid 🙏🏽
You explain things well and simple. Enjoyed the video ♥️♥️
pretty solid video, i like it🤙
also, i believe that the hi-lo setup on hockey skates is for sharper turning😗
IMO a banana rocker with 4x80mm is the best setup for outdoors. You'll roll over everything!
Awesome channel dude 🤘🏻
Thank you!
Where do you buy them tho I don’t have a skate shop in my local area
There are online stores that’s the best way
Thanks!
Thanks for the infos I think I’m gonna buy freestyle skates
I bought the Rollerblade skates you did not recommend. I bought them used for 30 dollars. It looked like they were used 5 times as they looked new. I am now learning how to skate and the skates seem to be working fine. If I feel like I need better skates I will do that, but they seem to be working fine for me now. Only 30 dollars. I pay much more for that when I buy shoes.
That’s okay and a great deal! Once you upgrade it will be awesome. Nothing wrong with something cheap while you learn
Most honest review, love it !
