Also in the early part of the year, he was a DPOY candidate. Now he made all defense 1st team. That isn’t disappointing. Marvin Bagley is by far the most disappointing
I was baffled by him considering JJJ, as JJJ was clearly one of the most important pieces in Grizz run, even without Ja on the floor, he was an on-court leader, with amazing defensive skills, got out of foul trouble he had his whole life, played pretty much every game this season... He kinda just matured and got a role. With 2 aggresive players on Bane and Ja, he doesn't even need to be the heavy scorer anymore. Marvin Bagley got on so many off-court problems and never lived up to his expectations even in the Kings.
I think back then, he was supposed to be this unicorn and do it all. Sure, he's not the main option right now, but his defense (which was his biggest strength) translated well plus he could still punish people in the low post at times and shoot from three (if only he stops having a toxic relationship with fouling). If anything, it should be Bagley here as he hasn't made significant progress (yes injuries suck and was drafted to a team where talent is wasted but still)

If RJ Barrett turns into anything like the more recent version of Andrew Wiggins, that will be good for him as a player though it would also prove he was drafted way too high.
Wiggins currently a second option on a championship team people just thought he was Jordan make it seem it like he’s not a good player obviously comparing to Jordan or Kobe he isn’t that but a great second option all star level player
RJ Barrett!??? Dude are you serious !? RJ improved every year since he got drafted you acting like he’s a bum. It’s true that he can be inefficient but cmon bro he just averaged 20 6 5 last season
This narrator is a stat reader. An analytics guy. He doesn't watch games. There's a reason why Memphis was 21-4 at one point Without Ja Morant. Part of the reason was JJJ. I bet he averaged around 20 ppg with Ja Morant being out
I agree with most of these but personally I would take Zion instead of Barrett. Like you said, mentality is extremely important, and a winning mentality is not missing more games than you've played, and he has had more than enough time to recover from injuries.
Wtf were you smoking when you thought of the JJJ and RJ takes? I don't even watch the Knicks like that (Grizz fan), but I know Barrett has been solid and is still getting better. You could honestly argue that Zion has been the most disappointing because of how much time he's missed. Granted, I think next year Zion is going to be an all star as long as he stays healthy.
My guy, what exactly do you mean about Jaren Jackson Jr being a disappointment when he was on a team that just made it to the second round of the playoffs, while also LEADING THE LEAGUE in blocks and being first-team all defense. He's done so much more then Marvin Bagley in the league that it's really quite laughable to compare them.
it’s so funny thinking about that Josh Jackson/Shawn Marion comparison because like a couple years later they would get their new Shawn Marion in Mikal Bridges
You don’t watch Memphis basketball and that showed heavily. Jaren played the most games of all grizzlies this year, and at times he was the most important player so to his size and defensive abilities. Jaren had a down year efficiency wise because of his amount of threes he takes. He is 22 and only getting better. Possible future all star
You can take JAREN Jackson Jr out of your 2022 update because he quickly become a star. I couldn’t believe just how good he was watching Memphis this year. Can do everything.
JJJ was being considered an all star snub by some analysts this year wont really call him disappointing tho his offense this year was pretty mediocre but I think its just due to recent injuries. I feel like he could still come back. However I still think Bagley's ceiling is still higher if detroit could develop him properly.
As someone who followed European basketball back in mid 10s I can say one thing about hezonia and dragon they both shouldn’t have been drafted in the lottery even at the time I thought it was strange that they did to me they looked like guys who need the right system to teach them to play, they both were at least two years away from even being able to be starters in Europe, especially with hazonia, besides shorting which he was average at he had no real skill and was a black hole on defence, these two guys legit almost killed young European basketball because most team were afraid to take tallent from here, but then again when a team like suns, magic or kings draft u, it’s already over for you

Totally agree that Dragan Bender is a cool name but like others I am baffled by mentioning JJJ here. 1st All-NBA defense and league leader in shot blocking. He contributed more to Memphis success than Ayton does with Suns.
I was definitely pissed when the 76ers grabbed Okafor one pick ahead of my Knicks picking Porzingis. And then I saw them go head to head in the summer league and Porzingis ate Okafor up alive in every conceivable way. When he wasnt popping jumpers over Okafor he was driving past him to the rim for a dunk. What was worse was how Okafor, a classically trained big man with an excellent menu of post moves kept getting his shots blocked in the post. At one point Okafor got so frustrated that on a back to the basket spin move he purposely left his elbow out and nailed Porzingis in the chest. He got T'd up and they took Okafor out of the rest of the game. At that point I just knew the Knicks dodged a bullet.

Solid defender, rebounder and becoming a better shooter. Knicks fans were claiming for him to become the #1 option lol how is that disappointing? Him and the JJJ take were terrible takes lol
To me Patrick Williams was also a disappointment in the 2020 draft. He is too much of an injury prone. He is only 20 so he needs to stay healthy on the court. He still has time to improve. Well it's shocking drafting someone like Williams top 5 averaging less than 10 ppg being a bench player in college.

I can tell you haven’t really watched Jaren play. He’s been great for Memphis injuries aside and he’s the same age as Ja. He’s gonna get better. Bagley is so much more disappointing I’m surprised you said this.
He is speaking of Josh Jackson, not Jarren...

RJ Barrett was amazing in the second half of the season and will make that all-star leap next season .
Yeah that was a bad pick from Andy RJ might not be on Ja level but he’s a future all star

Disagree with the RJ Barrett take, as a Knicks fan, I see what goes on and he has been great, looking better each and every year. He’ll get better soon too. He’s also better than hunter, far and above.

RJ Barrett finna have a break out season next year
@@Macandblues We need him to be great this season.
RJ has played 3 different positions, for 3 different coaches in 3 seasons. It may take him another couple of seasons to get it.
I remember calling the Lakers crazy for drafting D'Lo over Jahlil.. Guess I was very wrong
I never understood why Bender was taken, even if he had the “skill set”. I just always thought he would be a busy a second he was drafted
Wiseman will be great, it’s tough seeing all this hate towards somebody who’s barley played.
Especially when Isaac Okorro should’ve been the choice for that year
@@Goofbirdent availability is the best ability. As Long as Wiseman cannot stay healthy he is the most disappointing one, although I think he has a brighter future than okoro he has to stay healthy
@@Goofbirdent Okoro was slated to go from 4 to 8th pick in most drafts just on nba ready elite defense alone. All scouting reports repeated this thought he needed time to be NBA ready on offense. He can't be disappointing if he has delivered on this defensively and has a positive +/- all around. He made a leap in his second season as 48% 35% is decently efficient for a guard.
Personally would have chosen Zion Williamson as the most disappointing player from the 2019 top 5. Man can't even stay on the court.
or get on the court... but yeah I'd say that too. He's missed more games than he's played.
@@bullshark3771 I actually think the Pelicans should atleast seriously consider not resigning him to a max. I probably would prefer letting him walk to giving him a max right now.
How can you say that about JJJ? He just made a all defensive team. Same for RJ Barret. Yeah hes not looking like a superstar rn but he definitly is improving every season
If RJ Barrett turns into anything like the more recent version of Andrew Wiggins, that will be good for him as a player though it would also prove he was drafted way too high.
Current Andrew Wiggins is a 4-5 pick in almost any draft.
These picks bring back memories of some really fun times in the league.
Whenever I think of Top 5 picks I think of the debate from 2009 who was a bigger disappointment in either Hasheem Thabet or Jonny Flynn
Thabet, Sinns was due to injuries, unfair to put that on him
*flynn
As an unbiased Knicks fan, that rj take was terrible
Yeah bro that was a terrible take about RJ he’s a future all star
Yeah I think for 2019 it should be "no one", plus Barrett is clearly better than Hunter
Jaren Jackson was the Block
champ this year and made an all defensive team. Can’t see how he’s a bust by any mean of the term
He was expected to be much better on offense and at one point was considered the top draft prospect but yea dude is still a great player regardless

Holy hell that JJJ take aged terribly
Just wanted to say that I love your videos and been watching for years even when I wasn't subscribed
I agree with most of these but personally I would take Zion instead of Barrett. Like you said, mentality is extremely important, and a winning mentality is not missing more games than you've played, and he has had more than enough time to recover from injuries.
No.
That doesnt make any sense. Your mentality doesnt matter when your body is injured.
@@georockmann7113 Yeah but he has had so much time to recover it's inexcusable how much time he has missed.

I was gonna say something about your JJ take. But I see everybody else in the comments already destroyed you…I’ll let you live this time..
Facts people just be saying anything abs don’t know ball
I’m surprised u said that about Jaren Jackson he was fun to watch in the playoffs making deep threes and playing good D
I love your videos, Andy, but I definitely have to disagree with JJJ. Bagley is easily the most disappointing pick in 2018.
As someone who followed European basketball back in mid 10s I can say one thing about hezonia and dragon they both shouldn’t have been drafted in the lottery even at the time I thought it was strange that they did to me they looked like guys who need the right system to teach them to play, they both were at least two years away from even being able to be starters in Europe, especially with hazonia, besides shorting which he was average at he had no real skill and was a black hole on defence, these two guys legit almost killed young European basketball because most team were afraid to take tallent from here, but then again when a team like suns, magic or kings draft u, it’s already over for you
If San antonio drafted them then it's a different story
Looking back the 2018 draft was spectacular
Man these teams man, if only they chose the best player available, they could’ve been still playing in these playoffs!!
When you hear those trumpets, you know that video by Andy is gonna be a banger
Terrible video. Exposed him for not watching or knowing basketball
tbh for 2019 i would at least consider zion. man has more minutes on fortnite than in the nba.

Iits Steph, Dray, Klay, Poole and then somewhere in the distance Wiggins. He is just lucky to be in this situation

Anything past 2019 doesn’t make any sense. They still pretty new too the league and have plenty time to grow. Plus that JJJ take was horrible as hell. That man a monster on Def and will improve on offense even more so
Yeah people don’t realize he’s actually younger than Ja and missed a lot of time with injury before this year. He still has a lot of room to grow but he’s very good in his role as long as he can stay on the court he’ll be fine
Having RJ over Deandre Hunter is insane
Saying that RJ Barret is the most disappointing of his class when Zion is out for a year and something like 30 pounds overweighted... why not
Totally agree that Dragan Bender is a cool name but like others I am baffled by mentioning JJJ here.
Okafor helped my bracket when he won for Duke
How are you even considering called Jaren Jackson Jr. a dissapointment... man averaged 2.3 blocks this season. 2.3 BLOCKS. That's the highest average in the league?
What you on about?
ANDY HOOPS BACK AT IT WITH CONTENT
You compare marvin bagley who i dont even think is in the league anymore to JJJ who is a dpoy candidate can shoot the tree ball despite being a big man and is clutch asf and a all defensive member he prove that he is no where in bagley level and he is a big part in memphis success
RJ Barrett has not been disappointing. In the contrary, dude just came off a season where he averaged 20 PPG in his 3rd year, improving EVERY YEAR so far. Solid defender, rebounder and becoming a better shooter. Knicks fans were claiming for him to become the #1 option lol how is that disappointing?
Him and the JJJ take were terrible takes lol
i mean, he's like, UNBELIEABLY ineffecient.
2016 is def Ben Simmons more than ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣
To me Patrick Williams was also a disappointment in the 2020 draft. He is too much of an injury prone. He is only 20 so he needs to stay healthy on the court. He still has time to improve. Well it's shocking drafting someone like Williams top 5 averaging less than 10 ppg being a bench player in college.
I agree with the players chosen, just would like to add that Hezonja actually won the mvp of the russian league. he is a decent player, wish he got more playing time in the nba.

I saw Bagley get tossed around by a 6'8" PF in his first Summer League and knew he would mostly be a bust. And RJ Barrett got drafted that high cause came from Duke
Andy Hoops Back it again with the Saturday content yessir!!!!
Seriously? Barret really the worst player out of the 2019? I mean theres a really good arguement for zion being the worse seeing how this early in his career and he has barely played any games to the point some people are thinking hes in a similar situation as Greg Oden. Barret has been improving every year and has slowly been getting better at the wing each year
But when Zion has played he’s played like a superstar
Hunter is probably the correct choice for 2019. Outside of a couple of hot shooting nights, he’s done nothing
@@37willdog Some hot shooting nights plus is the main defender versus the opponent's main perimeter player. Still think it should be Hunter though and not Barrett

Dragen Bender was a prime example of how teams and media daydream about potential rather than examine actual performance. Even at the Euroleague level, Bender struggled to deal with the physicality of playing against adults, so I remember being surprised by all the hype surrounding him. That should have served as a red flag for the NBA as well.
