Man sentenced for murder of Dylan Rounds

- BRIGHAM CITY, Utah -- Rounds disappeared from his farm in the desert town of Lucin, Utah, over Memorial Day weekend in 2022. The 19-year-old spoke with his grandmother on the phone before he vanished, and he was never heard from again. His family spent the past two years searching for answers.
Brenner’s defense attorney, Gregory Ferbrache, told the court that Brenner had asked him not to say much during the sentencing but reminded the court of the plea agreement, which stated that Brenner would receive a 3 to 30 year sentence with a requirement that Brenner show law enforcement Rounds’ burial site - which he did in early April.

He had attempted murder charges against him in Box elder co.They should have already had him in custody.What happened to those charges? They put that under the rug to hide their negligence.

Dylan was such an exceptional young man compared to most his age. Buying his land and wanting to farm it. Just living his dream. Then one of Satans demons in the flesh comes along to destroy Dylan’s life and dreams and his families lives! I am so disgusted at the amount of Evil I see on the news every day. He will die in prison. His sentences are consecutive, wich means he has to finish one and then the next one starts. The parole board won't be letting him out any time soon.

Mr. Rounds saying those powerful words is the only time I saw some type of emotion from Brenner. I think that statement sunk into Brenner's soul.
He got 1 -15 years on each of the counts??? He took a life....... I understand he lead them to the body..... but..... he should at LEAST have to serve at minimum 40 years......
The judge's recommendation to the Parole Board that they keep him as long as they can, means quite a bit.
He's basically hinting to not parole him. Ever.

I think he would be 90 and while I think most prisoners don't live as long as people outside prison there always a few days exceptions.
If you intentionally take a life, you should not be allowed to be free EVER AGAIN. He should have to give his life for taking a life. I understand the plea agreement so they could bury their son, but he got off easy in my opinion.
I am thankful the family didn't have to endure a long drawn out trial at least.

So glad this scumbag is brought to justice. The whole thing is heartbreaking and infuriating. If the parents had not stayed on top of this case and insisted that Dylan didn't just run away. LE failed Dylan and his family horribly. My heart goes out to them. Just glad this chapter is ending and Dylan was recovered. There will never be closure, but hopefully they can move on.

The judge spoke so low. Did he sentence him for 3 charges at 15 years for each charge so a total of 45 years?
That evil glare he kept giving the judge. He should never ever be allowed out of prison unless in a body bag. He is a threat to society.
DR allowed that killer to squat on his land. Lesson: BE CAREFUL of whom you allow near you.

I think he said 15years for each charge, I don't know how many charges there were - dumb arse judge should have been clearer. He also got time served, I don't know how many years that was either. Again - dumb arse judge.

It makes me so angry how the victims in the Vallow and Daybell cases weren’t aloud to yell or show anger or hurt at the killers! I like how Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims families were aloud to go off on him. Utah seems to do the same

1-15 years on each count, with a stipulation from the judge that he was going to suggest to the Parole Board not parole him.
Of course, the Parole Board has discretion on that point, but my take is that Brenner will probably die in prison...as he should.

He was squatting on Dylans land and They think Dylan wanted him off the property..he just kept mooching off Dylan. He did do work at certain times but kept taking over Dylans farm land. Greedy monster!

Does anyone know why this person killed Dylan? One minute he is in the phone saying he needs to get his seed under cover as it looks like rain and then he is killed.
He was just jealous of the kid. They got into an argument, and he snapped. It’s not the first time he shot at someone.
James Brenner did not like the way Dylan Parked. So, he shot him twice in the head. Dylan was trying to get his seed truck into the grain shed before it rained and James had an issue about it, even though Dylan had the right to park there and the ok from the owners of the shed to park there. James Brenner was acting like a dog being territorial about the shed area. James got mad, shot Dylan twice in the head, then buried Dylan. Audio was too poor to hear what the verdict was. But James is guilty of Dylan's murder and James said yes, I did it.

Utah State Legislators need to change the law and sentence minimum to max on murder, regardless of plea.
I watched the family recently speaking up about the minimum 3 years until they have a parole hearing with this evil monster up to be letting out. What is wrong with your morals and law? This is a man that is a harm to society not to mention the injustice to the murder, innocent life taken, of Dylan. I’m so 🤬😤😭😭.

Of course all murder is bad but this murder was so senseless! Dylan was actually kind to this asshole who killed the young man who had his whole life ahead of him then payed games when the family/community was searching for Dylan's remains. It really makes my blood boil....but at least Dylan's Mother and family can bury their beloved son and try to get some closure to begin the mourning process. Love and prayer to Dylan Rounds family!
