Love you guys so much. Shawn sharing about the struggle of working in comics was so poignant and real and yet he keeps such a positive attitude. The caricature Jay did at Dragon Con was amazing. We need Keep Craft Alive merch! Keep doing what you’re doing gentlemen.
Shawn, I'm feeling your exhaustion SO much. I get you 100%, and EVERYTHING you're saying about working in this business is completely relatable. The hustle continues.
Fantastic episode. Like so many others, Shawn - the comments about being overwhelmed definitely resonated. Was busting my A trying to improve to break in for about 8 years while working a 9-5 and a growing family, finally got a shot inking some pages in a great book to assist with deadlines. Walked away from my job so I could be home with my family and one of my boys had some medical stuff come up and had to shift priorities. Now it feels like starting over as I’m moving forward, luckily we never were relying on comics to pay the bills. And to your and Matteo’s point about vacation, Ive got 4 kids and we recently went on vacation, kids can absolutely be a-holes on vaca and can wear you down.
Man, i realy felt the struggle and the tiredness Shawn is going through. Like Shawn and some comenters here im in a simmilar boat except that im a begginer in a 9-5 job trying to break out of it. Bros, we are gonna make it.
Awesome episode:) Hearing your experiences on your art path were really great Shawn, makes me feel like I'm not alone in this. And Matteo, your kids stories are hilarious haha, that could totally be an 8 page short comic:D
As a tattoo artist I can tell you it’s a lot like the comic biz. You have years where you can’t believe how much you make, then others where no matter what you do you just can’t stay booked and most times it has nothing to do with your work. I’m in it for life so you just gotta plan for the slow times when they come and yea you work everyday too. It’s exhausting but like your comic work, it’s always worth it
@@inkpulp you have a big following and obviously know how to draw so you’ll be great in time and have a good customer base that will like your unique style.
I can totally relate for an American driving in Europe, my wife is from northern Italy and makes me drive every time we go. Freeway is great, midsized city is ok, Milan is pretty rough. Recommend not driving in certain places like Cinque Terre if you can, it's not worth it lol. Cool episode guys I love the ones like this!
Man, I feel this is so bad. Currently self publishing a book and trying to gain a following and just get seen while maintaining a day job. At times it seems impossible and insurmountable. Burning the candle at both ends of the stick and always on the cusp of burning out. But I guess it wouldn't be a dream if it was easy.
Matteo may be complaining now but it's only a matter of time until his kid is sending him pics of the toilet. We know how the Scalera lineage will roll
Shawn have you thought about tee fury? It seems like people would go crazy if you turned your paintings into shirts. Not to add more to your plate- but it cold be a form of passive income, I imagine w your following a little push could get you some sales out the gate.
Ive tried Tee Public and another print on demand site. Nothing sold well, BUT, I dont like the quality of those things... i have a new website and will be creating my own merch there. My whole plan is to keep everything in my own space and be in charge of quality control
25:26 Shawn, you should definitely move to Europe. It is a shame that health insurance is the largest factor which forces you to seek jobs outside the comics business. It's ridiculous from an European point of view.
Matteo. Do you know Howie Mandel. And if you do did you know he was the voice of Bobby for Bobby's World. Or the voice of some of the Muppet Babies. Or Gizmo of Gremlins. I say that because if you listen to him do those voices it's like your bye bye. You could easily do those voices. Also you guys are the best.

Jay KILLED IT! Thank you!!!

Thank you Sandra! I think you and I relate on so many levels!
Another great episode!
Admittedly, the balloon story had me laughing quite a bit. x'D
LOL! I love that story !

Thank you for sharing! Its nice to not feel so alone with it!
Shawn’s attitude is super relatable here. Life in the creative arts is such a fucking hustle. But it beats the alternative.
Totally! Thanks for sharing!
😂😂😂 I was dead with Mateo’s reaction when he said “ANOTHER 7 YEARS!” 🤣🤣💀💀

Man I feel ya. I'm in the same situation. It feels like such a grind doing the 9 to 5 trying to break into comics

You are 100 percent right
Also, both of your taste in stand up comics is highly aligned with people i follow!
Just been in tuscany and Luca. I was also worried about driving there, but it was totally fine.
Thats great to hear ! Im anxious lol

Senior Buffet Locusts hilarious. It’s like the over 55 customers barking “Senior Coffee” during the McDonald’s breakfast rush
